Vetinary Clinic

The University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center is one of the most advanced large animal clinics on the east coast. Not only are they on the cutting edge of equine vetinary technology, they spcialize in cows, pigs and a variety of cloven footed animals.

Although most visits to this facility are unfortunately to have some lameness diagnosed or surgical procedure performed by one of their highly qualified vets, just to see how far vetinary science has progressed over the years is worth the trip.

With high-speed treadmills and radioactive imaging technology on hand, thorough examinations of each patient are sometimes worth the expense when problems arise.

Doctors at the facility have put together programs for trainers to help get horses through bucked shins and bowed tendons. Over the years they have collected data on horses that have been on their suggested programs or trying a new healing drug.

Not everything they have initiated has been as successful as they had hoped but the fact that vetinary medicine is prepared to keep looking for new ways to help trainers in their daily struggle to keep horses sound and healthy is a great satisfaction.

Many good horses have been through the doors of the New Bolton Center and have gone on to great careers or older horses have been able to continue productive lives which otherwise would have been curtailed prematurely.

Several of the local vets that we have on board on a daily basis have at some point studied at New Bolton (it is part of University of Pennsylvania) and are able to advise us if a trip to the facility is in the horse's best interests.

Like humans and hospitals it is a place that you are glad is there, but hope not to have to visit!
