Barbaro: Multimedia

Update 18: Rather than attempt to continue to update this page with new content, I am pointing you to two places: Tim Woolley Racing Discussion Boards now has a folder where all new content is posted (poems, videos etc.) Melissa Harden is collecting all the content also at: For the love of Barbaro. Melissa will collect the content from the discussion boards, you can also e-mail her at javaellybob@charter.net Thank you for continuing to create such wonderful work.

Update 17: Another video from Melissa Harden: Barbaro celebrating grazing in the grass.

Update 16: Two more videos: My Tribute to Barbaro and Barbaro, we believe. Great works.

Update 15: Another video: Barbaro Splish Splash. Melissa H. has created this page for Barbaro, which includes poems published here: For The Love Of Barbaro.

Update 14: Another video: Barbaro, Never gonna give in, thanks Mary Langkamp. It seems you can hear Bobby speaking those words! From Mary's e-mail:

music is from the movie "Spirit"

Song is You Can't Take Me sung by Bryan Adams

I think the song is true to Barbaro cause he never gives in

Update 13: Another video: Alive and Kicking!, thanks Pam Coblyn. An excerpt of Pam's e-mail to me:

Mainly, what I REALLY wanted to accomplish was to pay homage to Barbaro's strength, power, will and acceptance of love from those around him. I believe he brought out the best of everyone and I want to pay tribute to them, too, for recognizing that Barbaro has a rare and indomitable spirit.

My video, "Barbaro--Alive & Kicking" features music by Simple Minds

Update 12: Another video on DailyMotion: Magnificent Barbaro. Author:
This video is nothing but Barbaro's Proudest Moments: Training, Winning Every Race (didn't have Maiden Race pictures or I would have include it), and just great pictures of Proud Barbaro. The background music is the Main Title from "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron."
Note: Tropical Park Derby is also absent.

Update 11: Barbara Livingston, while an awesome professional photog is also a fan. She has generously made her Barbaro pictures available for non commercial use. Anna has created a lovely pastel of Barbaro.

Update 10: A couple of 'fan' developed web-pages: Prayers at Mother Cabrini
Shrine for Barbaro
(thanks Dee) and Light a Candle for Barbaro (thanks Melissa)

Update 9: We just received the following e-mail from Jessica Franks:

Hello, I have been reading the updates on your page faithfully and visited the multimedia page today to watch the videos. I made a couple myself awhile back and thought I'd send you the links if you thought them worthy to put up. I'm an amateur at making "movies" but as so many, Barbaro has touched me very deeply. The first I made to some
music from the Phar Lap movie soundtrack (Phar Lap was Bobby too!), and the second I later felt inspired to make after I heard a song I hadn't heard in years, It's So Hard to Say Goodbye (Boyz II Men). There are so many wonderful videos already up. I thank you for taking the time to read my e-mail and perhaps enjoy the videos.

Thanks Jessica!

Update 8: Karen has provided another lovely tribute to Barbaro Karen explains:

The song is He Ain't Heavy, He's my Brother performed by Brian Lane Green. I'm so glad you liked it. I know it's a little sad and a little like "we don't know" what is going to happen, and very much, "we miss everything that might have been", but that is how it is. It also, to me, shows why I think we all respond as we do. You have to have a big support group to get through stuff like this no matter the outcome. It's a bit of a macrocosm of what we wish or hope were there for us in our own lives.

Update 7: A video from Melissa Harden: Barbaro's Tragedy and Triumph (2m 58s) Thanks Melissa!

Update 6: Two videos from Paula at YouTube.com: Barbaro, Great Hero (4 minutes) and Barbaro (3 minutes). Thanks Paula!

Update 5: Beautiful Barbaro, by Jayne Lornie. Jayne used to work at Fair Hill, now works at Delaware Park and is a close friend. The piece closes with the text:
Get Well Barbaro; You Are So Beautiful.
Music: Your Are So Beautiful: Kenny Rogers

Update 4: I was browsing youtube.com and did a Barbaro search. Believe in Barbaro seems to be the most popular. It includes all his races, very good!

Update 3: As I was browsing flickr I found these cool photos of Barbaro in the Kentucky Derby. Shannon has also posted a second 'movie' to Daily Motion: Barbaro 2 (Song : When you believe : Prince of Egypt Soundtrack, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.).

Update 2: Another great video from Dailymotion: BARBARO'S JOURNEY (4m 1s, by Shannon). Nice poignant images of Edgar Prado with Peter Brette, among other cool stuff of course.

Update 1: Adding two Barbaro videos from Dailymotion (thanks Lisa). They are BARBARO TRIBUTE - by Ghost Moth (2m 26 secs) and BARBARO (by Anneetben 8m 29 secs). A quick caution, the latter does include 'live' footage of the Preakness.

Also, a comment from Kim Brette appears below, which includes:

Special thanks to Debra for the wonderful video, so glad to see he's touched everyones hearts, as he has ours from the beginning. Peter went to see him today and he was doing well, had a sparkle in his eye and is continuing to do better than we could ever hope for.

We received the following, unsolicited, 'movie' from Debra Lopez, in Wisconsin: Our Prayer For Barbaro.

It is 'titled': "To Barbaro from your Fans in Wisconsin" and closes with the text: "If you have never loved an animal, your soul remains unawakened." It is a 2.5M file. Thanks Debra!

If we receive more of this type of content, we will post to this page (I know a friend of mine is preparing a 'flash' animation).

Let me be the first to say this is absolutely beautiful...what a wonderful idea Debra! Thank you so much. No dry eyes here for sure...

Oh, that movie from Debra Lopez is incredibly touching, profound and memorable. The text at the end says it all, it truly does. Thank you Debra, for this beautiful blessing.

And thank you, Tim, for the regular updates on Barbaro. The hospital hasn't posted an update since June 5, one tends to become worried with no news. Your site has become a lifeline for our family as we continue our constant prayers. It is evident you dearly love this horse.

Posted by: Judy at June 8, 2006 12:55 PM

thank you so much for this site; I come here first thing every morning and feel such relief when i read he had a good night. It is amazing what this horse has come to mean to America.

Posted by: Marilyn at June 8, 2006 1:04 PM

OMG, that was so beautiful. I had to watch it twice, since the first time I had so many tears I couldn't see it.I was wondering who sings that song, it's so touching and says everything we are feeling. Thank you for sharing this and for everyone who continues to keep us updated. I come here so much I feel like I should be contributing something to keep it going. God Bless Barbaro and everyone taking care of him.

Tears are streaming down my face. What a beautiful tribute to a STUNNING, WORLD CLASS CHAMPION. My thoughts are with all of you associated with Barbaro.
Tim, thank you for this marvelous site. I check it several times a day.
BARBARO, YOU ARE THE TRUE WINNER.

Posted by: Rosmarie Shaughnessy at June 8, 2006 1:38 PM

Wow, absolutely stunning.
This was a song sung at my mother's funeral last year, so it has extra special meaning for me.
Thanks so much for sharing this with us. We LOVE you Barbaro!

Posted by: Lisa Morin at June 8, 2006 1:40 PM

Thank you for that beautiful tribute to our CHAMPION! So touching, can't keep from crying.
All my time the last 2 1/2 weeks has been keeping up with our precious Barbaro. Thank you for this site, it's awesome. I am an equine artist, and have just finished a model tribute to Barbaro. He will be auctioned on Ebay soon, part of the proceeds will go to the "Barbaro Fund". You can see him here: http://www.geocities.com/ansatacustoms/whatsnew.html

Posted by: Faye at June 8, 2006 1:49 PM

WOW! Absolutely stunning and breathtaking. I also have tears streaming. Thank you, Debra, for creating and sharing this beautiful tribute.

Thank you again to all of Barbaro's connections for sharing their thoughts and updates.

Godspeed Barbaro in your recovery!

What a great idea for the Ebay auction - may the bidding soar skyhigh.. Your models are absolutely gorgeous.

Debra .. There are not enough words to express my thanks to you and your friends in Wisconsin .. I watched and listened to your presentation many times and cried all the way through .. it is a wondrous tribute to Barbaro and his connections. Thank you Tim for creating this page (and your continuous, indepth updates) .. without you, we would not have such wonderful opportunities .. to learn, to share, to love.
God Bless Barbaro !!

Posted by: Dee from Denver at June 8, 2006 3:18 PM

Thank you so much for sharing - this montage is really beautiful - I did get teary eyed and can't wait to see Barbaro out in the "open" again. These updates on Tim Wooley's site are just the BEST!!!!! Somehow Univ. of PA hasn't posted any lately and we all want to know that he's still doing great. The national support for Barbaro is truly inprecedented - the horsing community and especially everyone near & dear to Barbaro should be extremely proud. Maybe some Barbaro merchandise (t-shirts, hats, etc.) could be printed with some proceeds going to the Barbaro Fund @ Univ. of PA - just a thought. Many thanks, again!!!

The Prayer For Barbaro is so beautiful. Thank you so much for putting it on your site.

We all love him, and wish him all the best

Posted by: Gloria Davis at June 8, 2006 4:04 PM

A very moving tribute, Debra. I'm so familiar with the song, but the female singing does not sound familiar. I know Celine Dion sang this in duet with Andrea Bocelli.

Is it Debra Lopez singing with him?

At any rate, no dry eye here. It was a GOOD cry.

Thank you so much and your friends in Wisconsin.

And, thank you, Tim, for keeping this web-site updated.

Posted by: Doreen at June 8, 2006 4:06 PM

Ok, now I'm crying. That was beautiful.. thank you for sharing.

Posted by: becky at June 8, 2006 4:50 PM

Thank you from all Barbaro supporters for this video!! It's wonderful and says so much of what we have all been thinking!

Posted by: Andrea Simmers at June 8, 2006 4:53 PM

Debra, you have truly captured the aura of love that surrounds Barbaro.
Thank you for the piece.
Thank you also to Tim and his daily updates which many of us would have gone mad without.

Posted by: Lori at June 8, 2006 7:38 PM

If anyone is interested, the song is from Andrea Bocelli's album "Sogno" and is sung with Celine Deon, though the version used here may be sung by someone else.
Beautiful media presentation. Thanks for sharing. I'm really looking forward to the TV coverage on Saturday.

Thank you to Tim Woolley Racing for keeping us updated. As we get closer to "normal" days of recovery, the news coverage is dropping off, and it gets harder and harder to Google information to satisfy how Bobby is doing. Please continue to update us!

In all that's wrong with the world, it never fails to be refreshing when the human spirit is poured out unexplainedly in mercy and compassion, no matter whether the object of its love be equine or mankind.

With love from Texas to Barbaro and his family--
Blessings for peace and healing!

Posted by: Jody at June 8, 2006 8:48 PM

Debra, you have wrapped all of our emotions into this photo collage of Barbaro with an absolutley beautiful song,of course I watched it twice and cried both times. Barbaro has captivated something deeper than compassion for animals,we all feel it and I know he feels the love everyone one has been sending him! Barbaro has a spirit that has moved many people to do all they can do !
Thanks to everyone who make this update site possible-we all want to know what is up with Barbaro ! Keep on keepin' on ! God Bless!

Dear everyone who loves Bobby,

Special thanks to Debra for the wonderful video, so glad to see he's touched everyones hearts, as he has ours from the beginning. Peter went to see him today and he was doing well, had a sparkle in his eye and is continuing to do better than we could ever hope for.

If prayers were medicine he'd be at the Belmont on Saturday, instead he will be wishing his friends the best of luck and a safe trip...

Thanks so much for all your good wishes we really appreciate them,

I have just watched "Our Prayer for Barbaro" and I echo the sentiments and comments posted here. Thank you so much, Debra for your beautiful tribute. It's absolutely wonderful. It's so comforting to know how many of us are joined together across the miles with one common goal - to see our dear Barbaro through this journey and see him well one day. To illustrate how much he is on my mind, I am even dreaming about him. I am home ill from work today, so I took a nap this afternoon. I dreamt I was visiting Barbaro and he nuzzled me, much like my dear departed "Honey" used to do. I like to think of her as an angel on 4 hooves looking down from Heaven watching over Barbaro. Keep healing, Sweet Boy!

Thank you for your wonderful updates on Barbaro. My husband and I are moving next Monday, but I always sneak a few minutes at the computer reading your wonderful updates, daily. I am not sure what I'll do the week or two my computer will be disconnected during the move. The wonderful updates have been SO reassuring! And that lovely video tribute from Debra in Wisconsin is just magical. Thank you so much to all of you. (I was especially pleased when you included a link to my local newspaper, The San Jose (CA) Mercury News.)

The video of "Our Prayer for Barbaro" is beautiful.
Barbaro is in my thoughts constantly. I surfing, I found several other videos that are heartwrenching. They are "Barbaro" by Anneetben at dailymotion.com/relevance/search/barbaro/video/215810 and "Barbaro Tribute" by Ghost Moth at dailymotion.com/visited/GhostMoth/video/189955.

Myself, having dial-up, could not access this video. I begged my little nephew to allow me to come to his house to use his fast dsl, and was, OF COURSE, SOBBING the entire time! The poor child thought I'd lost my mind! Ms. Lopez, you have made a very profound and immensely touching tribute to a very deserving Champ. Let us all continue to pray together for Bobby and his connections to continue in their onward fight. He is overcoming many hurdles one day at a time, but ther are SO many more obstacles still in his path. God bless everyone in his surroundings, and God bless all of you for feeling as you do. Just watched the Barbaro piece by Aneetben. That is a brilliant piece of work and should win an award for something. The kleenex box has been used. An incredible story told my photographs and music. Does anyone know the artist that sings the last song? Not only a great tribute to Barbaro, but to all who have surrounded this horse with love, care and compassion. His journey continues and his legacy etched in history. I continue to hope for his recovery and that he will live on as a symbol of what greatness can come from such an awful event. Again, thanks Tim for keeping your website updated.

Mr. Woolley - Thank you again for taking your time to keep everyone updated on Barbaro.

Bobby, our new American Hero - Continuing to send good wishes and hopes for your wonderful life ahead.

Posted by: Donna at June 10, 2006 12:02 AM

Janet in response to your question about the artist that sings the last song, I think the artist might be Jeff Buckley and the song is Hallelujah.
Every video clip sent was so special. I had lots of tears for each viewing. But must agree with you, the Barbaro piece by Aneetben is just excellent, certainly worthy of some award. Hope the Jackson’s have taken a moment and are viewing each of these treasured gifts.

ps- Barbara- my favorite photo in the Barbaro album is Barbaro eyeing the prize at Churchill during Derby week !

Janet asked who sang the song Hallelujah in the second half of the Anneetben tribute "Barbaro". Judy W. turned us on to Jeff Buckley. I tryed to sample Jeff Buckley's versions and then Leonard Cohen's (who wrote it). They did not match the piece above. It turns out it is Rufus Wainwright and it is the same version that he did for the movie Shrek.
I think it is brilliant and appropriate the way the song kicks in just when Peter is approaching Barbaro at the Preakness. All of the tributes are wonderful. Thanks to all.

I sent the link to this video yesterday to the Wooley@aol.com email. I didn't realized that there was something at the bottom of the Fan Media page.

This is a video entitled "Barbaro Tragedy and Triumph" accompanied by Elvis Presley's "You'll Never Walk Alone."

I am so glad you are providing these updates and will continue until we know Barbaro is healed. He is magnificent. Like Edgar Prado said, "If tears could heal", Barbaro would have run in the Belmont last Saturday. I love Barbaro very much.

I was reading through some of the messages from the Univ. of Penn. message board - One of Barbaro's fans Barbara D'Amico writes to Barbaro....
"May you run, if not to win,for the love of life, but to catch the wind"

It simply says what we are all hoping and praying for concerning Barbaro's future.
Live well Barbaro !

Posted by: Julia B at June 16, 2006 2:53 AM

I would like to start by saying thank you for all the updates. I know that you are busy and it must be hard to keep up.
I have just watched the videos on YouTube.com the one that really made sad is the one that is simply titled Barbaro and it shows all of his races. I, like most people I'm sure, first saw him run in the Kentucky Derby. I knew then that he was awesome, but this video shows you just HOW AWESOME he was on the track. I don't think he even knew what the whip was until the Florida Derby and that was the only time. In just about every race he ran he CRUSHED the other horses. It is truly a beautiful thing to watch. Him getting hurt was the only thing stopping him from winning the triple crown.
Now, that being said, I think that we should all look to the future. I know in my heart that he will make it through all this and live a long, happy life as a stallion and if he can't breed, then that's O.K., too. He has brought hope and a hero to America and, let's face it, we needed it. I believe that everything happens for a reason and although what happened to Barbaro was very tragic, maybe it was to teach us all something. For Barbaro, I think that we should take away something from all this. We shouldn't sit here and "what if" everything that happened, it will get us no where, fast. After all, he's not doing that. The video beautiful says it all at the end, "look into his eyes and see an old soul and the heart of a champion." That heart and soul are still there.

Get well Bobby and thank you for EVERYTHING!!!

Totally captured and moved by my daily peek into Barbaro's amazing determination and all of the wonderful photos and tributes. Just received my "Barbaro" cap and I will wear it proudly - and again thanks to all of you who have the honor of working around this very wise youngster whom I think is here to teach us something.

Karen,
Although I've enjoyed all the videos that people have put together of Barbaro, I've enjoyed yours most of all: the song, the simplicity of the dissolves of each photo, and the selection of photos (I'm a video producer, can you tell?) is what really makes this tribute such a special one. Barbaro's personality just bursts through in each photo you have chosen. I want to talk to the photos, and tell him that everything will be ok. Sincerely, Amy Abbot

Hiya, Bobbey! Sure hope you had good day and that the cast doesn't itch too much. I loved it when you looked up everytime the reporter close to your stall said your name on Belmont Stakes Day. What a smart boy! Are you taking any calcium supplements to help your fractures heal? Do you like to listen to music? I could send you some Mozart CDs; music therapy helps premie babies grow. I was just looking at some old photos of Secretariat...has anyone noticed, that Barbaros baby brother has the exact same stockings that Sec had...3 socks, except for his left front...wouldn't it be wonderful if this was a sign of great things to come? FROM THE BALTIMORE SUN 52 Minutes ago....

Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro had a visit with his surgeon yesterday.

Dr. Dean Richardson said the horse, who is attempting to recover from a broken rear, right leg suffered in the Preakness, could have another cast change this week.

Barbaro has been doing fine since his first cast change June 13, a little over three weeks after the original surgery. At that time, Barbaro was X-rayed and found to be healing properly.

Now nearly three weeks after that first change, Richardson said this cast "is beginning to show signs of wear." On the day the cast is changed, Richardson is expected to X-ray Barbaro's leg.

Posted by: Barbara Kerr at July 3, 2006 4:08 PM

Hi,
I do not know much about horses. Barbaro captured my heart. I must check your update page at least 10 times a day.
Today's cast change and having to replace bent screws and him having an abcess is that bad news?
It sounds bad to me. But I know nothing about horses. I just started giving carrots to one down the street. She seems lonely. I guess she is 25 is that old in horse years?? She just stands in the pasture with 6 birds on her back.
Thank's for all the updates. I am learning about them. I hope things keep getting better for him or I think I am going to be heart broken along with a millon other people.

I hadn't heard anything for weeks and have wondered every day about how Barbero is doing. I grieve at the news of another operation, and the various difficulties..though we knew from the outset this would be a long and difficult road. My prayers are for a full recovery and the day when little Barberos roam the pasture. The owners, trainer, jockey..the doctors, all who have loved and cared for Barbero are also in my prayers. I'm so relieved to have found this site..I saw a soundbite on CNN earlier and knew something must have happened and I searched harder this evening and found this website. Thank you, Valerie
When I was a little girl my father bought two horses..Friskie and Wildfire (they were not race horses..but I'm so glad he did that). May St. Francis take special care of Barbero at this difficult time....

There was a note from Jessica Frank saying she had made a couple videos for Barbaro. May I suggest that the song "Hard to say Goodbye" by Boyz to men, not necessarily a good theme, don't we need positive energy?? I know it's meant in good spirit, but lets stay positive. Thank you, Vicki Atz

Oh no,just found your wonderful site today and I just love the beautiful video clips from everyone most of all when Im feeling worried about dear Barbaro. For some reason the "its so hard to say goodbye" and the one listed next to that one are both stopping right in the middle of the clips! I have DSL and am able to play all of the other clips and i never have problems with other video clips. Anyone else have this problem? Everyone here after reading comments seem to be so warm-hearted and kind! I wish I would have found all of you weeks ago;I thought I was practically alone trying to check on him every day!

Can anyone tell me if Ricardo Orozco gets to go see Barbaro??? He is in some of the pictures that Barbara has on her site of Barbaro at Fair Hill. I have a feeling he is the one who would have done alot of the taking care of Barbaro at Fair Hill. After reading about Ruffian a person realizes how close someone like Richardo is to the horse. Just wondering if he also gets to go see Bobby??? Hoping that he is able to do so.

Just as the blazing speed, beauty and courage of Secretariat lifted my spirits in the early 1970's, so the beauty and courage of Barbaro has lifted them again during these days of more turmoil and was in the world. I will continue to hope and pray for the best possible outcome for this gorgeous animal.

After reading all of the medical reports on Barbaro, I'm wondering why the medical team doesn't try Accupuncture, that method which would surely increase the necessary healing blood flow to the pastern joint and other vital areas?

MY DEAR BOBBY....Almost 14yrs ago I was diagnosed with a very agressive estrogen positive breast cancer. It was so agressive ....I watched the pathologists jaw drop as he studied it in his microscope!!!He later told me that I had 7-10 days to get rid of it or he didn't know what would happen to me.....in exactly 10 days I endured 2 surgeries and was still only given a 50/50 chance at survival....just like you BOY!!

I lost my right breast and endured 4 triple doses of chemotherapy...I was allergic to the suppressant drug so became very ill from each chemo treatment as my body tried to reject the toxic chemicals...my heart became enlarged by the adriamycin(cancer drug kills cancer cells) I lost all my thick beautiful blonde hair(GOD gave me more beautiful blonde hair back)

Four reconstructive surgeries ensued to rebuild my breast with my own tissue taken from my tummy(a tummy-tuck one of the more positive things about everything)My body rejected the new breast and part was removed by emergency surgery.

BOBBY..you and I have many things in common ...multiple surgeries...healing problems....we don't give up and we're pretty darn good super patients under difficult circumstances if I do say so....

I WILL NEVER BE DECLARED CANCER FREE IF I LIVE TO BE 200....BUT THE FACT THAT I EXIST 14yrs AFTER THE FACT .....BEAUTIFUL BOY ....DEFIES ALL ODDS !!!!!!

MY POINT IS THIS "CHAMP".......I LOOK IN YOUR EYES and (I HAVE STARED INTO THE EYES OF DEATH MANY TIMES and I KNOW WHAT THE BEAST LOOKS LIKE) ALL I SEE IN YOUR EYES SWEET BOY..... IS A SURVIVOR !!!!!

I LOVE YOU...more than words can say SWEET BOBBY as does everyone on this website ....all we're asking CHAMP is for you to dig deep inside and muster all your positive energy and willpower to FIGHT as hard as you can!!! YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN !!!!!!!!!

It's too bad that there's already a new movie coming out called "Bobby", the Robert Kennedy story. I think after all this horse has gone through, with the support from his owner's, Michael Matz and his family, the trainers and the incredible staff in intensive care, and the fans, I couldn't think of a more memorable movie title to depict the deepest emotion and shear will and determination of this little bay warrior, Barbaro.

I thank you for your website, it is very informative but also personal and I felt as though all the people posting are connected emotionally to Barbaro. I wanted also to mention that today I wanted to send a gift to Barbaro and also one to Dr. Richardson, The Jackson family and Mike Matz for all they are doing to help this wonderful horse. I called Kennett Florist in Kennett Square, PA which is right down the street from New Bolton Center where Barbaro is located. The person I spoke to at Kennett Florist was so unbelievably helpful with helping me choose just the right flower arrangement and fruit basket for Barbaro and the gourmet basket for the Dr. and family. I know I took alot of her time and she did not seem to mind one bit, she was supportive and seemed to genuinely care about Barbaro as well. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to send something to let Barbaro know he is in our hearts just to call Kennett Florist, I had the opportunity to see in person the gifts I sent later this afternoon. They were so beautifully arranged and I was very impressed. (just for your information 610-444-6040). I just know that Dr. Richardson, the Jackson Family and Mike all love the gifts that are sent to them to show our unending appreciation!

IMPORTANT IDEA TO SAVE Barbaro!!!!! create a tank of water filled to his shoulders, with a harness for his neck and single straps for his front and hind quarters to hold him upright. With him submerged equal times of the day this would relieve the pressure on his feet because of the lightness of his body in water. It would take a little work out all of the details, but he is worth it!! hope you take this sersiouly and forward to proper authorities. My prayers are with y'all

I observed the vigil here in Oxfordshire last night. At midnight (7pm EST) I lit a candle and sat looking at Barbara Livingston's beautiful pictures of Bobby that she has donated for our own use listening to Mario Lanza and 'You'll Never Walk Alone' from a link on this site. This song is part of my past as I was born in Liverpool. I just kept willing him to live.

Let's do something positive in the light of this great racehorse.

We can't doctor Barbaro, and while we pray for him do something for other racehorses that don't have wonderful owners and trainers.

90,000 horses were slaughtered in America last year. The number will be higher this year. While you ask your legislators to vote for HR 503 and S 1915 to protect all horses please donate to save horses that are in trouble now.

There are many rescues. I've been involved in helping 2 racehorses through Lost and Found Horse Rescue WWW.LFHR.ORG there's NO reason everyone can't pitch in and save race horses. I'm so sad for Barbaro, but it has and should bring this issue to light about the plight of his peers. Don't you think Barbaro would want that? What if he were born to another owner? What if his trainer wasn't kind, and he fell through the cracks. No one would even know about him. There are so many wonderful horses needing help, Seabusciut is a story about a redeemed racehorse. Most of the racehorses that are dumped don't get a second chance.

Please, please, take this time to help save other horses.

http://www.thoroughbredcharities.org/index.html

and others do help all the time, every day.

Glad to hear that Barbaro had a comfortable weekend. I hope that he's gotten the emails sent to the hospital. This is how I'm sending positive energy.
(From John Lennon's song "Hold On" with Bobby inserted)
"Hold on Bobby, Bobby Hold on
It's gonna be alright
You gonna win the fight"
I had one of the local Beatles station's play the song today dedicated to Barbaro, hope he felt the energy. Maybe he would enjoy listening to The Beatles.

I'm so happy to hear Barbaro's hanging tough! What a difference a week makes!! Last week at this time the new was dreadful.I know our prayers are being heard!I held my own private vigil Saturday, as I'm sure many others did who could not attend. Thanks Susan for your imput on being positive!I know there's a long road ahead, but right now I'm doing the Happy Dance in Houston for Barbaro!!!Thank you doctors and staff for being so loving and caring. A thankful fan, Vicki Atz

I am so thankful I have found this message board about Barbaro. I, like millions of others, have been searching the web everyday for updates on this fabulous horse. I have also been so terribly disappointed at the many posts on different chat sites that allow stupid people to post their ignorant comments regarding his fate. One had a picture of Barbaro winning the Derby with the = sign and a picture of Elmer's Glue. How can people be so uncaring? I would certainly hate to even imagine the types of personal relationships low-life people like that would have.

But you guys are super and its refreshing to read all the caring posts that are here.

I take my hat off to everyone involved in the care and treatment of Barbaro. This horse has captured the hearts of so many around the world. Just look at his eyes...they are so kind and intelligent. Not all horses have that. He truly IS an old soul. For a horse with his tremendous athletic ability, his will to run and win so innate that he prematurely broke from the starting gate, to suddenly be put in the situation of doing virtually nothing and accepting it is incredible. Its as if he knows what's happening to him on a minute to minute basis is truly for his own good. I've known humans who have the ability to reason, that couldn't adapt as well as Barbaro has done given similar situations. Super Horse....without a doubt. Intelligent...beyond belief. Loved...we should all be so lucky.

I pray for you Barbaro as do millions of others and I truly believe you hear our prayers.

You are a winner, regardless of the Preakness, or the Belmont or any other race that may have been in your future. You are a winner at the game of life and we are all betting on you, we are all holding that Winning Ticket!!!!

This could possibly be your laugh of the day but got a message from friend that everyone will lite a candle at 7EST Saturday for Barbaro, and said something about Tim Woolley website. So there I was Saturday 6 CST standing on my front porch, in broad day light, with cars whizzing by, saying my Barbaro prayers, with a lit candle. The next day I found out they were virtual candles. Cannot imagine what the people in the cars thought. Sure hope my candle will be added to the rest, and my prayer that he lives a long and happy life romping in the meadows be added also.

What would we do without this site. It's keeping us all going. My daily routine is now a bit surreal, totally consumed with Bobby. I can't rest until I get the first bulletin of the day from Alex telling us how our boy got through the night. But I have to wait until noon-ish for that as I'm in Oxfordshire, UK. Then I check in for the rest of the day to see what's going on. We are so lucky to have this 'inside track' and I'm sure I speak for all of us in this little community in sending heartfelt thanks to you all at Tim Woolley's. We are in your debt.
Bobby is truly unbelievable, taking everything that's been thrown at him and remaining strong and bright-eyed. I'm not a particularly religious person but I'm just off to light a candle for Bobby at the St Mary the Virgin church in Oxford which some reading this might have visited. It's an ancient church (I think 13th century) with an amazing history. It just seems appropriate somehow as this is one special individual. He just has to make it, after all that he's gone through.
Keep the faith everybody and hang in there Bobby.

How's my precious today? What's this being compared to Lassie? Folks, he's "Barbaro", no comparison! (sorry Lassie) Pam your "Alive and Kicking" was terrific,I really thought your choice of titles was perfect! All positive energy! OK Barbaro, stay strong and patient. Love&Hugs, Vicki

The little film of Barbaro with the song "You Are So Beautiful" in it says it all - thank you for the much the needed cry ... and now on to sending all the positive energy one person can come up with to the symbol of equine greatness and nobility in our lifetime - BARBARO . Bless all you people out there who care so much for this lovely smart horse! May we all care so much for ourselves and each other! He is a teacher for us, teaching unconditional love. As much as I want Barbaro to survive and live a long healthy life I also realize I cannot control the future. Whatever happens he has changed how many view racing, innovative care for horses, the power of prayer and positive thinking. What a powerful experience he has brought us.

Linda Elsen....You were right ....it wasn't just virtual candles !!!! I lit a candle at 7pm EST and also lit a candle at greatfulnes.org for Bobby !!! If you looked silly there were probably a few thousand others all over the world looking rather strange with their candles too !!!! In years to come people will be in awe of OUR SATURDAY NIGHT BARBARO VIGIL !!! I don't think anyone has any idea of the real scope of it???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just watched a few of the tributes to this big, brave, wonderful horse and I can already feel my eyes swelling (I just need to remember to take out my contacts or I won't be able to open my eyes at all tomorrow).

I'm so comforted reading the posts, knowing there is still so much good out there, when the world seems such a cynical, dark place right now.

Once again, thanks to all of you, EVERYONE at NBC, the Jacksons, the Matz's, EVERYONE at Tim Woolley's (special gratitude for keeping us all informed), and , thank you, Barbaro. You continue to give me hope.

Heal Sound and Heal Strong dear friend!

Take care everyone and good night-

Great piece on WJZ. Wished we could have seen even more of Fair Hill and Tim's horses. But - on a lighter note at this difficult time for Bobby fans - when I discovered this site (or perhaps I should say lifeline) a few weeks ago I assumed for some unknown reason that Alex was female. Why I thought this I've no idea but I guessed 'she' was perhaps Tim's partner. Funny how you get these ideas. I was looking forward to finally seeing our trusty correspondent who is doing such a sterling job in keeping us informed and helping our frayed nerves. So it was quite funny when I saw the WJZ piece, aired my time at 11.30pm, and I discovered the truth!
Keep up the good work Alex, you really are a lifeline for all of us trying to go about our daily business and dipping into the site periodically for news of our fella.

Another day of good news! Thanks to Tim, Alex, and everyone at Kennet Florist for keeping us up to date!

Just read the PGA article and will be writing a response when I get home from work. What a miserable person! I can't find any way to respect anyone who doesn't respect animals - I feel there's something very "off" about them.

Anyway, Barbaro - keep fighting! Heal Sound and Heal Strong. You've got so many people rooting for you and who love you.

Good morning all; I took care of 2 items on my agenda, one was mailing a check to the "Mike Rea Recovery Fund" Raffle Drawing & the other was ordering 2 License Plates,"Image of Barbaro" with get well messages everywhere, just to the right is a Bold BARBARO & a slightly smaller "Champion" under...Should look very good on the front of my Honda Civic. As Dr. Richardson describes this journey as a Marathon, I'm going to settle in, read the messages on both boards every day & pray for the "CHAMP"..I want to see little Barbaro's & Barbarette's in a couple/three years..Alex, Tim, & all those who are involved in the "Mike Rea Recovery Fund", Have a great day....Clearwater Charlie & My "Bichon" Tommy....

How beautiful these stories are! I'm afraid I am completely naive about horses and horse racing, but there is something intriguing, indomitable and absolutely breath-taking about this magnificent Barbaro. I look faithfully for updates about him. Bless his devoted team of professionals doing everything humanly possible to heal him. His spirit, his determination are unbelievably inspiring. He is a role model for anyone who doubts the power of "believe in yourself". Barbaro, you are truly a gift!

For those of you who haven't come across this I thought I'd share it with you. It was always read out on the final night of one of the UK's major horse shows. I was reading it the other day and it made me think of Bobby.

Ode to the Horse.

Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride
Friendship without envy, beauty without vanity?
Here, where grace is laced with muscle,
And strength by gentleness confined
He serves without servility, has fought without enmity,
There is nothing so powerful, nothing less violent,
There is nothing so quick, nothing so patient.
England’s past has been borne on his back.
All our history is his industry.
We are his heirs, he is our inheritance.

Just wanted to let all BARBARO fans know that FINALLY a true passionate BARBARO fan has painstakingly created the ultimate BARBARO TIME PIECE. I just saw it on E-bay and it's the ONLY one I've seen so far. It's a 14 HOUR TIME CAPSULE of BARBARO on either vhs or dvd that is constantly being added on to. BOOTSRWALKN is now selling it on E-bay on auction #170013517489 and it shows every single one of his races in their entirety and most in their entire televised broadcasts PLUS a ton of other great footage of him following him thru his TC campaign. It shows his works, jogs, gallops going into the KD, all footage in-between the KD & P; excellent little segments on him and his human connections, the gut-wrenching mishap and all the day-to-day goings on with his recovery. Every BARBARO fan should check it out - sounds like a must-have!

Barbaro gave his all, to try to win the race in which he was critically hurt. Everyone needs to pray without ceasing for his recovery. I plan to come to Kennett Square in person, to sign his get well card and to anoint with holy water, the lamp post that leads to the hospital in which Barbaro and other animals are recooperating. God is watching over you, Barbara, you are very brave. We love you!

I just have to say to the writer from the Salon, "Here's Your Sign!" May you get carpal tunnel in both your hands.

Some people just like to be doubting Thomases. She is just an idiot that doesn't really deserve a response from any of us.

But on the other hand!!!! Great posts today. Mike C., you are awesome, TLC, you are too and so are each and everyone of us that are here on a dailey basis for the most part, on behalf of a horse, that is beating the odds. A great horse that will be remembered forever in our hearts and minds. I think he is a Messenger Horse and perhaps his purpose here is to bring attention to all the deaths at the tracks. They need to look into these problems and others that I won't go into right now.

Anyway, love you guys. And Please go light those candles!!!! Let's get a freakin Bonfire going for Bobby. It should be that way already with 12,000 hits a day on this site alone!!! Just think, if everyone took a moment and lit a candle, we'd probably blow-up that website.

Gotta run, love to all and special love to Bobby.

Thanks to all for your collective honesty, frankness, patience, and for allowing Barbaro to vote!

The odds have been long from day one, but considering Barbaro's desire to continue that is not visible to most while under the scrutiny of international judgment takes tremendous courage, which you have demonstrated throughout and should all be thoroughly congratulated!

We are realists, and despite having made an “ultimate” decision ourselves once, have been skeptical in the past of immediate actions taken by others under similar circumstances. Your sensitive response to this very unfortunate incident has given us a greater appreciation of the consequences to such injuries and certainly put any initial skepticism behind.

As fans, we cannot ask for more than the confidence you have given that every decision has and will continue to be made in the interest of Barbaro’s wellbeing. For that we offer our genuine thanks and very best wishes going forward.

Sincerely,
Bruce & Alice from Green Lane, PA

I was visiting PA (Middletown)this week and finished my visit in Ardmore. I took the scenic route to Ardmore so I could go by New Bolton. I stopped, pulled in and read the posters/cards and just reflected for a moment about how this horse has touched so many. This was a good feeling especially since local TV had a positive update on Bobby's condition earlier that morning.
My continued best wishes for Bobby's safe recovery and more kudo's to all the folks making this possible.....

Hi, New to this site..I have been trying to find stuff on Barbaro everyday. At first there was a lot but as time progresses the coverage wanes. I have been a horselover all my life. I rode and showed for many years and they were the best times. Now that I am disabled ... I cannot do a lot of that but a highlight is following racing via the media. Barbaro racing was awesome..and after his injury has shown such courage and grace. He has inspired me to try harder on those really bad days. Thanks for providing a place to connect to others. Nancy
