Barbaro Update: 100

updates are now here.

Update 815: Peter just called, and he is on his way over to visit Barbaro. Once he has visited I will endevour to get an update.

Update 814: Still no update. I just spoke to Michael (10 am) and he still had not heard. Since we operate under the notion that no news is good news, there is no concern. Of course when I do get an update (will call Peter later) I will post it. I did speak to someone from New Bolton about the possibility of an interview with someone there. I think that is my next interview project.

Update 813: No update yet this morning. I saw Michael Matz as they were returning from the track. Michael had not yet heard from Dr. Richardson (not unusual for the time I saw Michael). Michael did mention Barbaro was well yesterday evening. It will be a few hours now until I do get an update, probably around 10:30 ish. In the meantime, here is an update on Stephanie's (Miracle Horse Rescue) work via Michelle: IN HONOR OF BARBARO RESCUE CHALLENGE.

Update 812: Another Barbaro article, this one the October edition of the Mid Atlantic Horse: Barbaro's Road to Recovery. Some nice pictures too. Cheryl (comments timestamp: 2:58 AM) highlights some of the material from the article. This is pretty funny:

"He's a public figure now," said Richarson, who also has become something of a media celebrity himself. Apparently word leaked out that Richardson was taking dancing lessons. Next thing he knew he was invited to dance on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, much to the mirth of Matz and Richarson's colleagues at New Bolton."

The Barbaro update should again be around 8 am.

Update 811: If you are reading this, we are live with the new dedicated server!

And more importantly, another comfortable day for Barbaro. I just spoke to Peter Brette (6:45 pm), who had heard from Michael, who visited Barbaro as usual. Barbaro did also get out to graze.

Update 810: Off to the dentist, shutting the comments down during the visit (see update 808 for an explanation). In the meantime enjoy the article in update 809.

Update 809: A great article from the UPenn Bellwether: How New Bolton Center Staff Joined Forces to Help Barbaro. It really details pretty much everything that has occured thus far.

Good afternoon Barbaro, I hope the new cast is comfortable, no pinchy toes and your hoof is growing, growing, growing. You are an incredible horse. Never mind Horse of the Year, I think you should be Athlete of the Year. You show everyone daily what it means to be the commsumate athlete in all the best sense of the word!!!! Butterfly kisses big guy!!!

####

Please pass on the petition for Mike Rea's home makeover to all your friends. How many times have you responded to others requests. Now it is time to ask a favor. Mike needs this badly. Forward to ten friends and have them forward to ten and on and on. We can do this for Mike. I can think of no one more deserving of this than Mike!!!!!!

####
So much for the beautiful Ohio weather, wind and rain and cold moving in, culminating in Friday's predicted sleet storm. Now all you Florida and Arizona people can laugh at those of us with four seasons!!!!

####
Alex, I am glad the board is up again. You and Tim are so good to us. It is all so greatly appreciated.

####

If you are sponsoring a MO horse, please go to the discussion board marked Horsey Mommies and tell us who you are sponsoring so we can see if any horse needs more sponsorship. Thanks.

FOB's have a great day!!!!

Prayers for all who need them!!!

Rosemarie,

It is an eerie site to see yet another NYC highrise building with flames coming out of it. A plane no less. Must be very disquieting for all New Yorkers. I hope it is just a terrible, terrible accident and nothing more, nevertheless, another tragedy to those who live in the condos and those on the street.

Keep us posted from a NYC point of view.

Anyone up for a Barbaro vigil tonight a 7pm EST ?

We need to get Bobby back over 1,000 candles.

Please light a candle at that time, and or stop and send positive energy to Bobby - miracles happen every day and Bobby is one.

In regards to my Cosmic Event post. I received this from a friend. Google Cosmic Event 1017 and you'll get a bunch of hits - I can't access these from work (firewall).

Have contacted the Northern (Demotte IN) branch of Indiana Horse Rescue, seems they're only 20 miles from where Blackie lives, so I'm gonna start going there to see what I can do to help. Will keep you all advised. (I think this is where survivors are from the severely neglected herd.) Once I make contacts there I will try to see what FOB's can do to help this Rescue with the Shipshewana auctions as well.

Thank you Alex for posting the Bellwether article. This is a must read to be copied for everyone's scrapbooks. What a comprehensive telling of Barbaro's most incredible journey. The picture of Barbaro and Dr. R speaks volumes of their relationship. They seem to both be looking toward the future together. Ahhhhhhh!

New Yorkers, are you all out there? Are you okay? I cannot imagine how frightening this must be, at least at first.

My kitty Felix is still not doing well. Diabetes has been ruled out but many other bad possibilities remain. Lab work will be back tomorrow. He is not using his right rear leg at all and is having trouble with his left rear. He is confused and frustrated and fearful and so am I. I had a great conversation with Senator Landrieu's animal welfare aide today.

Horse slaughter prevention is a VERY high priority for Senator Landrieu. After the recess, she may try to bring the bill to the floor by unanimous consent. But it is expected that there will be an objection, and it will still come down to Senator Frist's discretion. So she will urge Senator Frist to bring the bill up before the Senate adjourns. Senator Frist decides on these matters along with the Majority Whip, Senator McConnell.

Senator Landrieu will also be calling on all the senators, by letter, to co-sponsor the bill, with a goal of 60 co-sponsors.

So you can see the pieces falling into place.....contacting the "Big Six", including Senators Frist, McConnell, and Landrieu; and still contacting our own senators to co-sponsor. Our senators need to REMEMBER our calls when Senator Landrieu asks them to co-sponsor!!

Our voices ARE being heard. We must keep this going for the next few weeks in order to be successful.

Precious Barbaro: Another comfortable night....our Father loves you so much. May He give you a glorious day of grazing, sunshine, blue skies and gentle breezes. Father, praying and believing that You will lend Barbaro to us for many, many years. May He never lose the determination or the fight to live that we can see his beautiful eyes.
Father, thank you for the "Miracle of Barbaro".

Lost in the Fog: My heavenly "horse angel"...missing you and loving you so much. You will never hurt again because our Father allows no "bad things" to go on in His Heavenly Kingdom.
Father, thank you for my Lost in the Fog.

Barbaro Team: Hope your enjoying your day....may you have a pleasant afternoon. God bless you and yours.

Alex: Thanks to you and Tim for allowing the "Barbaro Family" to come together for our Precious Barbaro on Tim's website.

Candles are lit for my precious friends, "horsey" friends and our precious pets.

UPDATE ON MY GRANDBABY "KYKIE": My baby was released from the hospital late Tuesday evening. She is doing well but she tires easily which is one of the side effects of this disease called "Kawasaki's Disease".....very uncommon here in the United States. It is a virus that attacks the blood vessels in the body. She will have to see her doctor for follow-up visits to make sure that the blood vessels in her heart were not damaged as this would cause her to get complications later in life.

Once again, my son, my daughter-in-law and I wish to thank you for all your prayers and candles. I'm so glad you guys were with me at this "moment in time".

Pit bull mauls three horses at farm in Maryland
(10/11/06 - FREDERICK, MD) - At least one dog mauled three horses at a farm, and the most severely injured, a miniature foal, may not survive, authorities and the horses' owner said.

A loose pit bull was captured in the rural area after the attack, and its owners had not claimed it by Tuesday evening, animal control director Harold Domer said. If no owner comes forward after five days, the dog would become county property and could be deemed potentially dangerous.

A trap was set for another dog, a collie mix, that may have been involved, Domer said.

Horse owner Karin Walden said the 5-month-old foal, named Dot, had bites and puncture wounds on three legs and a deep gash in its belly that could not be sutured because of swelling and the possible presence of bacteria.

The other two horses were treated with antibiotics.

Update 806: A nice article in the USA Today: Against all odds, Barbaro perseveres, it also includes some new pictures.

This was a good article, nice pictures. Barbaro on the scale my favorite. What a beauty he is. And Dr. Richardson doesn't hurt my eyes either. (Sorry Mrs. Richardson you have a keeper.)

Thanks to the Jacksons for loving horses the way they do. We will never be able to say that you didn't give our boy all the chances he deserves. I know if I was in your shoes and Barbaro's shoes I would be doing all I could.

Keep on Keeping on. I so admire all; the Jackson's, Dr. Richardson, all Caregivers, including Mike and Peter, Alex, Tim, and anyone else I didn't think of. If you are taking care of our horse I admire you. As a matter of fact does anyone of you have a stable out back for me. I know you would take care of me very well and very well indeed. By the way, stable life is great just think of how Jesus came into the world.

Natalie, AZ:

You were worried about the six horses in a trailer that you saw...There are people who transport horses for a living..If you have a horse you want moved to AZ because you're moving there, you can hire people to come pick them up, load them onto a trailer and they will take them there. On the way to AZ, they may pick up other horses, drop other horses off for other owners...This could be what you saw...

Susan E. I'm praying for Felix. I hope the lab tests come out great and it is something treatable, and he will soon be his old self again.

###

As much as the vet wanted to save her (he had her home with him for two nights) it appeared that it would only get worse for Daisy, as it was not lymphoma (treatable) but a worse kind of cancer. She was still purring and liked her chin rubbed, although she couldn't eat or drink. So we held her and petted her and she went very quietly to sleep. My mom, I, and the vet were all crying.

Everyone there was so wonderful - they all loved Daisy. And everyone here has been wonderful, too.

Animals are lucky in that they can go before they really, truly suffer. I know we did the right thing, but needless to say, it's been a horrible day. I drove up to the top of the mountain outside of town and just walked around.

Thanks, everybody, for lightinng candles and sending good thoughts and prayers for Daisy.

I am so very sorry for the loss of kitty Daisy. I feel your pain as I have been there so many times. No words can remove your grief but I know Daisy would not wish you to be sad for very long.

Jake,

So sorry to hear about Daisy. But isn't it wonderful to know that we can keep them from suffering. She knew love and had a very peaceful end. Words can't help you now but time will.
And know that she is now pain free at the Rainbow Bridge. I hope my kitty, Pumpkin, of 16years was there to meet her.

Thinking of you,

##Jake, My heart goes out to you. So sorry to hear about Daisy. But, you gave her the greatest gift of all, to let her go with dignity, I think you know that. It is the very hardest for those of us left behind. Afterward, there is almost a great wave of relief that comes over you, one of peace and the realization that they will never leave us, only in the physical sense, but will never be any further away than your next thought of them. I have been through this so many times having bred goldens for 35 years. Eadh day gets a little easier and you will find yourself smiling when thinking of Daisy. I will look for her star on my walk tonight. I know it will be the brightest one in the sky. Take good care.

Bobby, you are our miracle as so many have said so many times. I hope one day I will get to meet you as you have been in my thoughts every single hour of every day since your injury Alex, you continue to be the best. Thank you.

Jake I am so sorry My love to you and your mom and all your family

These tiny little babies take such a huge part of us with them when they leave us. But the love endures. She will be in your hearts forever. She'll have many of my kitty babies to welcome her at the Bridge, who will be happy to share warm sunshine and sweet breezes with her until you are ready to be reunited. If you close your eyes, you will see her lying contently, those warm soft breezes gently ruffling her hair, tail flicking every so slightly. If you listen when it's very quiet, you'll hear her purring.

love,

Jake,

I am so very sorry. I have been there, holding my little furry children when they have passed, most recently my boy Sam. Rest easy knowing she knew you were there, knew how much she is loved and as everyone says, she will be waiting for you.

She will always be with you, a love like that never ends. Never. I truly believe that kind of love takes on a different form when a loved one leaves us, be it human or animal. When it is quiet, listen. You'll hear her in the whisper of the wind on the trees, the flutter of birds outside, the gentle falling of rain. For all things beautiful, she is there, right with you, always at your side, until you meet again.

Jim Reeder suffered a serious and extensive brain aneurysm on Sunday, Oct. 8, and had major surgery Monday evening to stop hemorrhaging. The good news is Jim survived the surgery and all body signs are positive at this point. Jim is far from out of the woods however and the extent of his recovery will be a day to day discovery. Candles for the horses

I hope I'm not stepping on the toes of the person who started this group by mentioning it -- I don't remember who it was -- but there is a candle group called "HORSE", and it was started by one of us, for all of the horses who are injured and euthanized on the track. Lately, I've been using it for the slaughtered horses and to express my hopes for S. 1915; and I see some others are doing the same thing. There are usually only a few dozen candles lit. Maybe some of the rest of you would like to join in.

Again, I hope this does not upset the person who started the group for the track injuries. If it does, please speak up and we can start a different group.

Jake and family I am so sorry for your loss of Daisy, here is the poem "The Rainbow Bridge" I found once and have kept to help me through difficult times such as this:
The Rainbow Bridge
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this gold land, they wait and they play.
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed.
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For at that instant, their eyes have met:
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past.
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over....together

You incredible, wonderful people! I am just crying my eyes out, reading one beautiful letter of condolence after another. What a powerful gift. I'm sure over the Rainbow Bridge Daisy is hearing all the glowing, wonderful things about her.

It's a good thing I got a new printer, because I'm going to print this up and keep it. Reading it just now was a catharsis. We've all been there, but the outpouring of love is unbelievable.

When I figure out how to post a picture of Daisy, I will. Might be the weekend.

So many beautiful expressions of what I feel. The sun and the breeze and the shadow. She probably even has a Command Control Center where she watches over her food. She was a character.

This is strange. We have another cat, Allie, who did this once yesterday and once today: she pulled the tablecloth up around her food at Command Control, just as Daisy used to. That was Daisy's trademark, and now Allie's doing it.

Friar Tuck - crying as I was, I cracked up when I knew the whole forest was sending us condolences.

You are great people. And you've made me feel so much better. I'm going to go print this up!

Love,
Jake

important and perhaps we should work harder than ever on the calls, especially to the six.

I have being lurking but wanted to respond to Jake

Dear Jake,

Like Janice from Florida said there are no magic words for your loss. Just keep Daisy close to your heart and remember all the great times you had together. I lost both my boy dogs six months apart(3years now)and keep pictures in my wallet, in my bedroom and here in my jewerly studio. Somehow seeing those happy fuzzy faces make the pain seem less, but it doesn't completely go away. I will be thinking about you, your Mom and the Vet.

I agree with working harder on calls especially with the 6. It's now obvious to me that this was passed to Alex by a very reliable source and we should follow through.

That is so interesting about Allie. I have noticed that when a person passes on, the survivors tend to try to perpetuate the things that the person left in the world -- to take on as their own certain habits, hobbies, customs, etc., so that they will not be lost. Hearing about Allie makes me think that maybe this is not just a human trait.

Dear Susan E,

I just read your posts about your precious Felix and I feel so badly for both of you. Please cuddle, kiss and just be with him, as I'm sure you are and that will help his fear. His mommy can love him better than anyone. Please keep us informed and let us know about his bloodwork results.

Sending love and a ton of caring to both of you!

Jeanette,

Glad to hear that your granddaughter is home. Just wanted you to know that my son had Kawasaki's disease when he was two. He's 25 now and healthy--I almost said as a horse! He took baby aspirin as 'blood thinner' and had frequent cardiac ultrasounds but, thank God, he had no complications. I used it as an excuse to steer him toward computers and singing instead of playing football :) emil/ml

Alex,

Yes, a wonderful article from UPenn Bellwether but they omitted one very important person when they spoke about the "special" visitors for our guy. They mentioned the Jacksons, Michael, Edgar, Governor Rendell but what about Barbaro's other most loyal, special friend, who visits Barbaro religiously and has stuck by him through thick and thin? I speak about our own special...
Peter Brette!

We love you Peter as does your special Barbaro. He appreciates your dedication and your love, as do we. You're a true gentleman, Mr. Brette!

Jake,
I have not posted for awhile but have been stopping by TWR to try & stay up-to-date as time permitted.
But I just have to post my sympathy to you, your Mom, and Allie for the loss of Daisy. No matter what happens in one's daily life, it is always so comforting to return home to our beloved, and ever-so-faithful friends that wait for us. It is so hard to say that final good bye to that complete love and devotion.
I too have lost beloved cats and I know that words just cannot do justice to the pain that you feel.
Please just know how sorry I am and that you and your dear ones are in my thoughts. I wish for you many memories of Daisy that will bring a smile to your face and a little chuckle to your voice.
Take care!

JAKE,

I am so sorry your beloved Daisy couldn't stay longer. But I'm also grateful she had so many years to love and be loved by good people who always did their best for her. I wish all animals could claim that. Daisy will be with you every time you climb a mountain, or write, or when you just wake up and feel her paw on your face...

JEANNETTE,

I just read about your grandbaby. Sweetie, this has been a tough week for you. We are all here for you and little Kykie. Medicine can do wonders. And we all know positive thoughts, prayers, white light, faith, whatever spiritual force moves you--can heal. Heal, Kykie, heal!

TO ALL MY CYBER FAMILY:

I am overwhelmed and grateful for your love and support as Felix fights his fight. We still don't know what is wrong, but he isn't talking or rumbling and he can barely walk on three legs. We hope to know more tomorrow. Lizzie is watching over her brothercat as I type this. He doesn't want to be held, and that hurts to see.
I hope to have the wisdom to make the right decisions for him.

Cloud should be coming home tomorrow, I think. It is encouraging to read we've picked up more sponsors on SB 1915. And to learn than Conrad the Mustang Killer is getting exposed.

A friend emailed me today, excited at Bobby's USA today front page spread. We believe. We will always believe. I believe in a lot more mysterious things now than I did 5 months ago.

Alex, thank you for everything. I must ask--WHAT IN SAM HILL IS A "DEDICATED" SERVER? A really good butler?? What?

Good Evening, Fans of Barbaro!

Jake, I am so sad to hear about Daisy - she is watching over you and waiting for the day you are together again. You and your mom gave her a lot of love and a beautiful life. When the vet cries, that just shows how special both the pet and the people are. Prayers are on the way.

Prayers also go to all the furbabies (big and small) who are ill or in need of care and love.

Loved the Bellweather article...and the pic of Barbaro with Dr. J - two best buds if I ever saw them...also finally saw the pic of Barbaro with the cat and that is priceless.

Must go and get some sleep. Its going to be a fun weekend...get to go BACK to FH for a couple of hours. Can't wait to see my buddy Luke the pony and those BEAUTIFUL TB's...

Take care, everybody.

Sorry if I am rude and have not read the posts tonite...been away....to those going thru bad spots in their life...love and prayers...

To Debbie.....please tell me what Debbie you are....I read tons of words, but sometimes do not always place the "Debbie" in the right state....I embrace what you said about Bernardini...I stand corrected...cause horse racing will always go forward...I did not mean to offend...and after MY smoke cleared, I realized you spoke the truth...we always hold on to what we believe would happen...and that is not what life is about...My support will go to the horse that can win...and Bernardino may do that...and I can be relentless on what could have been...geez, must be getting older...I will never slam Bernardini again...CAUSE I THOUGHT HE WON AND BARBARO DID NOT....

I have learned the only thing in life THAT IS CONSTANT...is change...I embrace that....I vented that nite...and it is over....Barbaro has given all of us more than we ever imagined...that is the one miracle...other miracles are horse as being saved...so much money has been donated and the awareness is crucial...Yes, Barbaro has accomplished that thru us...

I have moved on....ya know, if some other horse had won race when Barbaro was injured...the focus would have been on that horse....human thing I guess...

I am so pleased that the tracts have changed for the good to save God's special horses....

I apprecite your words Sally...but I am goina have to realize history moves forward and we must glory in that...I am not crumbing...just trying to be in the main stream...we all have our thoughts...Lord, knows I vented....

God's speed, wisdom, and protection for all the beasties that race...

I know you read all this Sally...but I hope Debbie reads this to understand....I do understand and accept it...

Continued healing and protection for Bobby...he has changed so much in the racing world...that is, indeed his legacy...and a fine one at that...

Sweet dreams to Barbaro and to all of you....

Alex,
I don't know if this was already posted somewhere, but if you can get your hands on the October issue of Mid-Atlantic Horse, there is a fantastic article on OUR BOY! Some photos that I've never seen before are included along with some info I haven't read anywhere else. It is written by David Yeats-Thomas & here are a few of the great excerpts from the article:

"Barbaro's coat is shiny and his eyes are bright and there's certainly nothing wrong with his appetite. As Richarson spoke, Barbaro munched grass continuously, looking up only occasionally to prick his ears at some cows that were grazing in the next field. Apparently he's made friends with one of the cows, a brown Swiss named Mocha who plods over once in a while and touches muzzles with Barbaro."

"Nor has Barbaro lost his legendary crankiness. Richardson, who is one of only three people allowed to take Barbaro out for a daily half hour of grazing warns people not to get too close. Even his trainer, Michael Matz, one of the other two people who take Barbaro out to graze, has to watch his step. When Matz, who was visiting at the time, moved closer to Barbaro for the photographer, he put his hand on the horse's shoulder. Barbaro's head shot up and his ears went back in warning. Obviously Matz, who knows Barbaro as well as anyone, must have said or done something to irritate the winner of the Kentucky Derby." (There is a GREAT photo of this too, showing a very-annoyed-looking Barbaro with Dr. Richardson & Michael Matz wearing big smiles!)

Mid-Atlantic Horse has great Barbaro coverage every month. Enjoy!

Also, please stay after your own senators. Those that are not on board yet to co-sponsor.

Those that are already co-sponsors to let them know how important this issue is to you as a constituent so they will help move it.

Remember, at this point, most of them know the details. They just tally up the calls at the end of the day. Keep it short, polite and courteous. It's the NUMBER of calls that will make the difference.

I love it, Dr. Richardson takes dance lessons, a man after my own heart. Dance on, dance on!!!

And oh by the way the author's interpretation of "crankiness" could simply be a high energy horse sowing his oats after being cooped up in a stall with a cast on one leg and a bandage and boot on the other. I also have heard him described as personable and engaging.

Jake

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I know how much it hurts right now . . . and it won't get any easier for a while. I went through it a year ago with my dog Bo and I still cry over him. You will miss Daisy. You will know that you did everything that you could for her. You will remember all of the wonderful days you had together. You will have a very sad space inside you. You will find its easier some days to think of her and some days thinking of her will make you cry. You have lost a loved one. Not a pet, a friend, a companion, a confidant, someone to talk to, someone to laugh with, someone who was always there for you. I know your pain, but understand that you have that pain because of your love for Daisy - and hers for you. It hurts so much because Daisy was so lucky to have had her life with you. You're not alone - we're all crying too.

I agree with your construction of "crankiness". Were I in Bobby's horseshoes, I'm sure I'd have done some serious kicking of heinies by now. This is the horse for whom the nurses line up peppermints on the edge of his stall; the horse that has "endeared himself to everyone". The horse that has brought Dr. Dean to the verge of tears and to heights of near-giddiness in the ol' paddock. Also the horse who tried to snack on Miss America's fingers (tastes like chicken), but I feel that was justified on his part since she failed to bring treats.

On that note, Bobby, my Velvet Nosed nipping squealer, I'm tucking you in early. Felix has been snoozing at my left hand this past hour and I'm just going to curl up with him for awhile. Your job is to sleep well, heal, be careful getting up and down, and have ACN! You are now halfway through ACW already. You are also two days shy of three months since the Day From Hell. Good night, amazing one.

Good night, Barbaro Nation, and thank you. Get well, Steve's kitten.

Kitty didn't just appear as there are no coincidence in these matters. Kitty is with you for a reason. Thank God he/she found you. Keep us posted how kitty is progressing. Looks like BDude has a sibling.

Hi everybody,
The poem The Rainbow Bridge has really helped me to cope with the loss of my chocolate lab Sandy to cancer 14 years ago, I loved her so much, I keep her pictures where I can see them everyday. Also 2 yrs ago my white chihuahua Ren passed away suddenly and I was heartbroken, but I have his picture and Sandies picture copied to the poem, because I know we will all meet again someday at the rainbow bridge. I now have a black lab Night and a chocolate lab Boo that I love, they are wonderful and caring pets and very loyal. When I look into Boo's eyes he reminds me so much of Sandy sometimes but he could never take her place. Just stay strong and remember they love you and you love them.

Prayers for yet another kitty. Steve, I hope your little stray will be all right. Felix, we're praying for you, too.

Good night and love to all.

I meant to thank you earlier. Everytime I read the poem I weep. My furkids are everything to me and so many have passed over the years. I suspect when we meet up I'll have a whole pack of em waiting. What a joy that will be rolling on the ground together getting so many kisses.

Loved the Mid-Atlantic Horse article. Especially -- Barabaro has a cow for a friend?? How cute is that?!

Condolences to Jake & family for your loss. I hope that Daisy will let you know that she is well in spirit -- watch for interesting events in your life for the next few days, weeks. It sounds like Allie is already getting directives to keep up the routines! Hugs to all of you -- may it help to know that others share your grief.

For those who have ordered a Breyer Horse Barbaro Model:
I emailed Stephen at goldenoakstables.com to inquire about when the Barbaro model that I pre-ordered back in July would be shipped. He responded that "Breyer is telling us to expect delivery sometime within the next couple of weeks - We are hopeful; that this is accurate."

Someone on the forum recently posted a list of folks that were among the first to come to Barbaro's aid on May 20th - as a way of acknowledging them. Made me remember an article I saved back then. I don't think I ever saw it posted anywhere. It is old, but boy what a read!! Shows how split decisions made such a difference for our Bobby. "The big boss horse" has come a long way!

you're very welcome, i know that poem causes me to cry too, but knowing we will be with ...all of our beloved furry friends can also be quite comforting, even though we might have to brace ourselves and give them hugs all at the same time will be well worth the wait to able to be reunited with them again, and see the love and sparkle in their beautiful eyes and know that they never stopped loving us and we never stopped loving them, and that nothing will ever separate us and them again. Just remember to tell them all we love them unconditionally, and all of the horses too.

Mentioning that Barbaro has a cow friend reminded me of a strange thing that happened a few yrs ago.
I have a 24 yr old TB (retired jumper) Anyway his pasture had cows in the next pasture. He is 17.2 so the fence only came to his lower chest. He LOVED to stand at the fence and poke his head and neck as far over as he could to let the cows and calves lick him! They licked him all over his head and neck and he loved it. I have never seen or heard of that before. He seemed to enjoy their company even when they weren't licking him. He also has always had other horses with him so he's not lonely, just must like cow company! None of the other horses did that.

Jake--I'm so sorry. You've got lots of friends here who share your sorrow.

After I posted above, I went back and reread the article detailing the events on the track May 20th. I was surprised, but it kinda made me sick. Didn't do that when I read it all those months ago. Sorry I posted.

Cindy -
How cute! I wonder if all horses like cows or just some of them. Seems like your TB and Barbaro have something in common! Although I'm not sure if he'd want them to lick his face.
