Barbaro Updates: 98

updates are now here.

Update 802: Another comfortable night last night for Barbaro (monday night). I saw Michael Matz on the track for my second set. He had heard from Dr. Richardson. Again, another beautiful morning at Fair Hill. A lovely sunrise with a very thin layer of mist close to the ground, it is also warm! For my second set I breezed Rocky (Holy Bull 2yo) with Tim (on Grandma). Judge (Rocky's trainer) caught me galloping out in 24 and change (breezed an eighth, galloped out an eighth). I thought they went well, but sometimes I wonder about the clocking accuracy of the trainer!

Quick funny story. Judge (who also ships horses) was shipping a horse to New Bolton. He took his son with him (little Judge). He asked Little Judge if he wanted to see Barbaro. Little Judge was pretty non-commital about it. When Judge got to New Bolton, he asked someone there if his son could go and see Barbaro. As he was asking his son said "Daddy it was you who wanted to see Barbaro, not me". Of course they were not allowed to see Barbaro anyway, but it was pretty funny the way Judge told it to me.
update 7:45 am, tuesday, october 10

Update 801: Again, this morning's update should be around 8 am. New Bolton will also be publishing an update later today, which I assume will detail yesterday's cast change.

Update 800: A very interesting Breeders' Cup update from Su McMullen:

Breeders' Cup update - there is a possibility, as it has yet to be discussed with all involved, that the brilliant and charismatic George Washington (bred by the Jacksons) might be rerouted to the Breeders' Cup Classic now that Dylan Thomas, who was key to Ballydoyle's BC plans, will be switched to the Turf. Ballydoyle have Aussie Rules and Ad Valorem as likely candidates for the Mile so they are tempted to send Gorgeous George for the Classic. But it would be his first run on dirt. It's an interesting prospect, with Sheikh Mohammed's Bernadini lining up against the Ballydoyle standard bearer but many of George's fans might deem it unfair to send another turf superstar to an untried surface against an awesome individual like Bernadini. It would be a sad day for the sport to see George suffer the same, and equally unnecessary, humiliating defeat as Dylan who to suggest didn't like dirt is as much an understatement as suggesting the Pope is slightly religious. The best horse wins on the day, but you at least want the competition to have the chance of running a race and go down fighting.

Meanwhile, an understandably elated Sheikh Mohammend watched Bernadini's casual stroll to victory in the Jockey Club from a TV feed to Dubai. His racing manager John Ferguson told the Racing Post: "It's fantastic for us all, for the farm here in America where we bred the horse and for Sheikh Mohammed. It's such a wonderful day. It was simply awesome. It's an honour to be involved but just as a racing fan it's so wonderful to watch such a special horse. It's fantastic for us all, for the farm here in America where we bred the horse and for Sheikh Mohammed. It's such a wonderful day."

Having lost his great favourite, Dubai Millennium (as a result of grass sickness), a horse who was very close to his heart and given the fact that they are not enjoying their best season in Europe in terms of the top level victories, it is especially pleasing to see Sheikh Mohammed, a true horseman, bask in Bernadini's glory. It is an odd feature of racing in the UK that the ruling family of Dubai have been so prominent for so long they are as much a part of the racing scene here as the Newmarket Heath. Impossible to imagine racing life without them.

Update 799: As noted earlier Barbaro did have his cast changed. New Bolton will provide detail in their scheduled update for tomorrow. My understanding is all is well with Barbaro from a brief conversation with Peter.

Update 798: Sorry, we have had terrible site problems today. Its a silly thing that caused the problems, but I am hoping that within the next couple of days all silly things will be over with as far as the site is concerned! I am planning to get a Barbaro update a little later.

Update 797: Another comfortable night last night for Barbaro (sunday night). I saw Michael on the horsepath as I was going out on my second set, Chappy. Michael also noted there is a planned cast change for this morning. It is a beautiful morning at Fair Hill. A lovely sunrise during the first set. For the second set Chappy actually went to the gate for a little gate schooling. We just stood her in the gate, make sure she is calm. Next time she will break from the gate. She has done that once or twice before. She is a real pro in the gate, and should soon get her gate card.

For those following Mike Rea's recovery, you can sign Mike's petition for his Extreme Home Makeover entry.

A Humble Request

If anyone is going to post a link re: slaughterhouse issue, please indicate if the link will take you to something that is graphic and may NOT be appreciated by all. Some can watch/read that stuff, others, like myself, CAN NOT.

Anxiously awaiting the rest of the report from Stephanie - Miracle Horse Rescue. We're parents again "fans". What a big family we're becoming.

This was posted last night...

NEWS FLASH from OREGON AUCTION.

OKAY - just heard from Stephanie, sale is still going on, have some great news.

First - the killer buyers were there - they were pointed out to her - but between Stephanie and other legit buyers, the killer buyers were consistently outbid ALL DAY and they have already LEFT WITHOUT BUYING ANY of the horses - THEY DID NOT GET A SINGLE ONE. They are no longer at the sale at this point.

Second - Steph said she was able to get every one of the horses that the FOB's were the most concerned about - and she is satisfied that the others that she did not get that we were concerned about, all went to legit good homes. In particular, the Belgian draft horse, who turned out to be very gentle and ridable, went to a family with kids.

Third - she has met Cloud and says he is a real sweetie. FYI - for those who didn't follow this part of the story earlier, Cloud, a 17 y.o. Appaloosa gelding in apparent good shape - had been bought by the killer buyers at a previous auction but was left behind because there was no room for him on the slaughter-house-bound truck. (!) Stephanie's local friend alerted her to this, and Steph arranged to buy him before the sale started. (You can see pics of Cloud at TWF; and Ernie already has a Cloud Tee-Shirt ready to go.)

Finally - she is not done yet - but at this point, including Cloud, MHR had bought six (6) horses - 2 of whom are pregnant - so eventually this means EIGHT horses in all after the babies are born. She DID GET THE OLD PREGNANT MARE (lot 42, 25 y.o. in foal); also DID GET the YOUNGER PREGNANT MARE (lot 31, 4 y.o.) with an unnumbered foal at her side [this is the 3-package deal we wanted her to get]. She also got an additional weanling filly who was not on the catalog list.

That's all I know at this point. Faye was signing off a little while ago, so I would appreciate it if someone would please post this info on the Forum for me, since I can't post there. THANK YOU.

LIVING PROOF OF THE LIVING TRUTH.

Good morning everyone

Barbaro: What a way to start the week, getting a cast change...something tells me your update re: your rt. hind leg is going to be wonderful news. Read on the discussion board that your left hoof has grown 1/2 inches....keep up the good work, champ. I can't wait to hear from Dr. R.

Good morning, Alex and Chappy: I'm so excited you'll be getting your gate card soon, Chappy. You and Alex are a great team and soon we'll see all your hard work pay off in the races you run.

Mr. Kilroy: Wherever you are, keep slammin em-
we are too!

Warm thoughts and healing energy to all the MO horses, and those rescued that were starving and neglected. Love you all.

Off to sign the Extreme Makeover petition for our wonderful friend and horse lover, Mike Rea. Just by signing we can possibly make this a reality for Mike. I urge everyone to do so...by taking a minute of your time to sign we may be able to give so much to Mike in return; he deserves it. I think it would brighten Barbaro's day too knowing that we helped Mike out in this way.

Erin, rest and regain your strength, our little angle. You are in my thoughts and prayers, always.

LIFT: Watch over all your brothers and sisters here with us. Keep them safe and give those that are ill some of your strength to hang on. You live on forever in my heart great "Warrior and Champion."

Good Morning, Fans of Barbaro!

Alex, looks like you're having another beautiful morning at Fair Hill. Am still planning to come on Saturday. Need coffee? I need to be around more beautiful horse energy. Hope the weather holds. Good to read that Chappy is being so calm in the gate.

Stephanie, wonderful news about the auction.

Am looking at the picture of Princess and sending energy for her continued recovery. Although I'm heartbroked that she miscarried, I see a strength in her.

Today is another day with 'the boys'. Am getting a lot of info about setting up a rescue facility. There are some issues I need to discuss with their owner (legal/business...). I'm concerned that I'd be shouldering a heck of a lot that would take me from the Reiki practice. I'm praying for clarity here.

LITF, you shine brightly in the sky, my Long Time Sun.

Barbaro, am sending prayers that the cast change goes well. Shine on you crazy diamond.

Must go. Everybody have a wonderful day.

Good Morning Barbaro,

Glad to hear you had ACN! I'll be thinking of you this morning when the Doc changes your cast. I hope you are able to just get a splint put back on your leg instead of that itchy bulky cast...that would be a great change!!!
Enjoy the beautiful morning and enjoy your time outside grazing. HAve a wonderful day sweetheart!!

Good morning Barbaro Nation! I had a rough weekend with my mother in law and couldn't be here much. Horses are so much nicer than people. LOL.

Our local Fox affiliate just had Earlene Cole on from Longmeadow Rescue Ranch with an update on the rescued horses here in St. Louis. She reports that an answer on their ownership is forthcoming this week! Sounds promising to me. Also, more horses (including Willie) have recovered enough to be moved to the ranch over the weekend. Yippee!

Barbaro, I am waiting with baited breathe to hear aobut your cast change. These cast changes always make me sweat.

If anyone knows what really went down at the end of yesterday's auction, please post here and let us know.

Barbaro, love, I am so busy it is hard to even keep up with the posts, but I always read the updates. Cast change today! Hope all goes well... Is that on your right hind leg? Are you growing that left hoof? I send you healing vibes throughout my day, (it's not difficult visualizing you out grazing), and whisper "Grow that hoof, Barbaro", driving in my car! Hoping that our Barbaro's cast change goes well and Dr. Richardson gives a positive report. Not to be taken for granted--Prayers and thoughts of this great horse are always in my heart.
Great accomplishment for our advocates in buying up the horses at auction so those immoral, heartless humans were denied rounding up more horses for the slaughterhouse!

Good morning everyone!

I am geeting my fingers crossed for a successful cast change today!

I have not been able to keep up with all of the posts and discussion board lately so I hope everyone is safe and well. My prayers to all who are not.

I saw some posts about saving a palomino colt from an auction. I hope that was successful. I have a special fondness for palominos :)
Everyone here is so great and so dedicated.

Well I have an unusual Monday off from work so I am out to the barn to ride April. Everyone have a good day!

Good morning, Fans of Barbaro: Soggy, drizzly, downright cold morning here in Colorado. May your Monday and week be blessed in every way. Your dedication to Our Hero and commitment to people and animals everywhere humbles me each and every time I read your postings. I emailed my CO senators again yesterday re: H.R. 503. Doing what I can get their attention and will keep at them.

Alex: Thank you for giving us this forum to connect and become one.

I read this article on this web-site yesterday about Bernardini having something missing, and that was some real
competition, say like, Barbaro. I totally disagree, both of thr jockies that rode Barbaro said he was the finest horse
that they had ever rode. Edgar Prado, has ridden over 5600 winners, and Jose Caraballo has over 2000 winners,
so they should know. Bob Baffert, trainer, who had three horses entered in the Kentucky Derby, knew he was in trouble when he saw Barbaro for the first time, before he was saddled, he said "My Goodness, he looks like a man amongst boys"
What a horse, what a speciman. I personally like Bernardini, and wish him luck on his up coming races, but truly do not believe he could have beaten Barbaro. [Enclosing the analyzation comments on the two Preakness Contenders].

Analyzing the Top 2006 Preakness Contenders

Barbaro is the runaway winner of the Kentucky Derby which should immediately make him the favorite at Pimlico. The undefeated colt has enough starts at 3 including stakes wins, is coming off a layoff of less than 30 days, had a sharp prep race, and has made the Beyer par of 106 with his 111 Derby, and his running style is front-running. Although he stalked in the Derby he was a front-running horse in every other start in his career. Has extremely long stride, speed and stamina.

Bernardini did not race in the Derby, but comes into the Preakness off a win in the Withers (G3) at Belmont Park on April 29. With that in mind, he did have a sharp prep and the correct layoff. As well, he has enough races at 3 including the stakes win, and was just short of the Beyer par with his 104 last out. Finally, he is the only horse in the field without points on the Professional wing. Despite the distance being just 1/16 less than the Derby, Professional points are actually not preferred in the Preakness. He generally races up front which is a negative, and he had no starts at 2.

dear alex,
'thank you so for alerting us on Bobby's cast change this am.and anc for beloved barbaro.
dear champion heart BARBARO,
i think of herons this morning. their focus is riveting,,they walk with great stealth and precision..thye are serene and bigger then life --very above the frey of drama drams unfolding in my urban landscapes that i travel through ..
.may the proceedure go beautifully and all of your limbs be blessed in healing light..as Mary so beautifully posts every day..
i found this quote i want to dedicate to you big B..and to how you have opened new horizons for me

when we can,
to step in and make right.
bless stephanie for doing the hardest part..her choices are perfect and we folllow her courageous moves ..as she brings the voiceless to having a voice.
secondly,
beloev bobby, may your recovery be smooth and effortless and you get the green grass and sun to heal you. and heal all the team working so hard to save your magnificent life.
i tumbled to bed fitfully until i re - irealized, once again, how magnificent all these horses are t-***-you cant compare them^^^ they are all different shapes of god's celestial cloth.
.that you are speaking through..bernie or bernadini ,too
the sand of ancient times at his glorious heels.
.he has a cough.he has some other physical troubles..may they be erased..may he survive to filly and play and get the credit he deser=ves and lings for too....well deservedly.
.i hear you great horse.
.history has dealt you a nasty turn too. how can yu be a champion too if there is no competition? that is a robbery too..
.but not from where i sit here..
all the horses you speak for need our love and support..raicng is very very challenging..
,thank you barbaro.
and before the quote,
may i ask everyone espec ,my nyc pals to contact me so we can make ammends to the child who stood by romeo and held his head as he died a terrible death at the hands of a taxi. yesterday ..in the sun and in the blue..
i need to purchase another barabro t shirt for this lovely boy
..and find a way to buy an urban quarter horse to replace romeo so the kids can continue thier passion. sos..

#### Just wanted to let everyone know about my visit with the Accident victims and Earlene cole on Sat. What any amazing lady and what a great organization. I saw most of the horses including Willie, Mama and DD who had just arrived from the Clinic. I will post details in a new forum in a little while. I am swamped at work so it will have to wait.

I also placed 16 white crosses near the accident site for our nameless angels. they will be remembered by the millions who drive by now. Jen

P.s. I will try to give details of each horse I saw so if there is one that you sponsored just let me know, I will tell you as much as I can.

The child that was riding Romeo was 13, he is in Hospital with head injuries and a broken leg. Jemmott was his friend and saw the accident. I read an article in New York Daily News online, do not know the link url. Romeo was being ridden on the outskirts of the park, and got spooked. He jumped over and on top of a taxi, cutting his belly on sign on top of cab. He rolled and broke windshield, caving in top of taxi. Driver had to go to Hospital also. The boy riding was thrown off as Romeo jumped. It is awful.

#### Real Quick of a few of the accident victims.

Jannie- I saw Willie. He had just gotten there from the clinic the night before. He is so sad. He is so scraped up. The sad thing about him is that you can tell that he was sadly neglected before this happened. He came right up to me when I came up to his stall though. He will be amazing when he gets through this.

Sally- Poor Mama. You can tell she has had a lot of babies. She is probably well into her teens and hasnt had much to eat. She needs to just have her baby and live out her life. She was so quiet and not wanting much contact. It isnt surprising. she also is quite banged up. Not as bad as willie though.

Kathy- I did not see Stan, but I asked Earlene about him. He has a tatoo and they are trying to trace his ownership When he gets there from the clinic they are going to have someone read it that is experienced at it.

The hinny Bazonka Donk wasnt there either.

Frankie really made an impression on me. She was in their indoor arena with several of the others, and there were volunteers out there cleaning up the hay and manure. She just kept following them all around like a puppy dog. She wants attention so bad. Clueless too was the same way. He was a bit restless though. He kept walking from one group to another like he wasnt sure where he fit in. Liberty looked pregnant to me. they arent sure yet. Earlene said that wasnt a priority at the moment ( naturally) although two other mares at the clinic had aborted Fri night.

the whole thing made quiet an impression on me. I have had horses for 30 years and never have I seen something so sad. the good thing is that they are in good hands right now.

Earlene just wanted to let everyone know that all the work we have done for the anti slaughter legislation, but she said it is very important to remember that passage of this bill is not the end of the work. For the next 5 years (probably) there is going to be a greater need for fund raising for rescue organizations all over the country to absorb these "unwanted" horses. I am going to post a photo of the crosses on the forum later. Jen

The url for the New York story on the horse accident is:

http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/460025p-386921c.html

Seems the young rider is quite a horse lover. It's a sad story, but the poor horse died being comforted by the friend of the rider as well as the older gentleman who was leading the ride. Obviously lots of love and emotion there.

Sherry, I emailed you.

All, here is a website my daughter discovered. Very good one about the slaughter issue.

This puts up some very good points to why horses shouldn't be slaughtered and how they are helping us (the Economy) more while alive. You may have already seen this, but check it out anyway. There isn't anything really gruesome, don't worry.

Jeannette--prayers for little Kylie. I'll light a candle, too.

Cahill and all the other furfriends (Dora, you always list them all, God bless you)--be strong and heal and know that God is looking after you.

Martita--love your posts. So sad about Romeo. LEt us know what we can do.

Bobby Jackson--it's a little past noon and my thoughts are with you. Please be good today and strong and patient, and let our good doctor friend work his magic on your leg. May it be completely healed!

Stephanie at MHR, thank you for your incredible work on behalf of Bobby's cousins.

Everyone,

You all are going to think I am crazy with this idea but here goes.....Next week, Oct 16, is Boss's Day. If any of you have horse-loving or animal loving bosses, I would think it would mean alot if you would (if you could) take a day off soon and devote the day to calling, e-mailing, etc, in honor of your boss. Or, if it is not feasible to take the whole day off, then dedicate a lunch hour to this.

I know we've been doing this daily, but to do it in honor of someone and let them know that, it may touch them a great deal.....much better than the traditional (albiet nice) plant or cake/cookies we usually give on that day.

I plan on doing that and for my card, will print out a picture of Clueless Too and Cloud, my new "sons" and will give "joint custody" to my boss (who loves horses) and put down that I made some calls in his honor to hopefully end the madness.

Just a thought....

I forgot to thank Jen! I'm a co-mommie to Willie. He was named for his "will" and we all know someone else who's strong on the will to survive!

I am deeply moved by the 16 crosses you placed at the accident site. Thank you.

Rosemarie- I saw Freedom. He looked well all things considered. He was happily standing at the end of the arena looking out over a big field with clueless too and Frankie. He later came over to eat hay with Karma. He was one along with Karma that didnt look so bad. I whispered to them as I was standing there. YOU guys are so loved. Jackpot was also with them. Seems they have made themselves some Buds. Jen

You are so right that we have our work cut out after the Bill passes. And I foresee FOBs evolving into a powerful force for fundraising for the Rescues. I look forward to refocusing my efforts to raising money once this Bill is passed.

Yesterday I began a personal effort as I am purging through my house in preparation of a garage sale for our horses. Yesterday was the garage. This week I'll go through each room. It's invigorating knowing that the effort is for our horses.

Thanks for the update on all the babies.

When this bill is passed, $$$ will not have to be spent on bidding against killer buyers. So there will be more funds available to care for horses. The mission will change from "rescue" to more of rehabilitation and retirement.

To All:

I also am disturbed by this "comparison" between Barbaro and Bernardini.

I love all the horses. That is why we are helping to save the ones that are less fortunate than Barbaro and Lost In The Fog ( and others) who are blessed by having caring human connections.

Barbaro was a great race horse. As a runner for the time that he ran he showed that he was a great race horse. Catastrophic breakdowns are a dreadful down side of TB horseracing ( caused by many factors -- uneven dirt surfaces aside). This is a factor which has turned many of the would be horse racing fans away from the track---

None of us can predict what would have happened if Barbaro did not break down on May 20th. All we know is that his own intelligence -- his own destiny coupled with the quick thinking of Edgar Prado has saved his life at that point-- and he continues to heal based on many contributing factors. His mission is still unfolding --- and most probaly will have long term positive repercussions.

It is also obvious that the repercussions of everything that has ensued over the last four months points to a legacy that is far differnet -- and ultimately greater than merely being a winning thoroughbred race hores.

I wish Bernardini well in his career; and in his life. We just read of the end of life of another great race horse who was allowed to live out is his life in a manner deserving of his greatness--In a manner deserving of any life --- Champion Precisionist. Had his owners thought of him in the same way that those who owned an equally beuatiful and winning great chestnut(Ferdinand) who was also somewhat of a "dud as a stud" Precisionist too might have ended up hanging from a a meat hook in some foreign butcher shoppe at $25 per pound.

We do not know what can happen to any horse in training, in the paddock (i.e. the fatal accident of the great Saint Liam earlier this year), on the track ; in the barn (fires) on the highway(accidents).

This comparison between Berdnidini and Barbaro is ODIUOS ( as are all comparisons)

This comparison smacks of the ridiculousness of the publicity stunt in 1975 of having Foolish Pleasure race against Ruffian. At that point what did either one of them have to prove.

I might add that Ruffian's tarainer Frank Whiteley was very much against this stunt; but acquiesced to the pressure of the the politics behind it.

In summation I am looking forward to seeing Bernardini run against Lava Man,TheTin Man and David Junior ; and whomever else might stand the c hallenge-- by the same token I am looking forward to the Barbaro effect effecting great positive change for TB racing and the destinies of all of the beloved compion animales -- THE HORSE!!!

I am in complete accord with Debbie B and Linnie from (both from my former home state of Florida.)

Positive thoughts and healing energy directed toward Bobby!!

Good Luck to Stephanie and the hoses that she saved and the ones that she wasn't able to.
Continued healing to all the MO. horses that are in the care of the HSMO.

Hello everyone, I know this is a bit off topic so you don't have to read it, but...

I just wanted to post about my experience this morning and afternoon at Last Chance Ranch. It was truly an amazing experience and I cannot wait to go back next Saturday!

The horses are so well taken care of there and the people there are wonderful and take such good care of them. Not that I didn't think they would be, just saying.

Being new to horses, I was not supposed to do too much with them the first day (I read their guidelines before going which explained it all), however there weren't a lot of people there today, so I was able to help groom two horses, which I was just thrilled to do. Also cleaned out some stalls and refilled some water tubs in the pastures.

Aslan, a draft Belgian that they got 2 months ago who is huge, but a gentle giant. He just stood there and let us do whatever to him and when he put his head on my shoulder at the end to thank me it was so sweet.

Charlie, a now retired show horse who had some foot problems in his two front hooves but had surgery on the nerves and is doing well now is the other one I was able to help groom. He is going to be a companion horse to a pony temporarily and is going next Friday. He was sweet too.

As we were filling up some tubs, Emma (I think it's her, as they have a few white/grey mares and don't know them all yet) came over and I was able to love her for a while and as I was rubbing her neck she closed her eyes as if to say that feels good.

I also got to see how playful horses can be as the baby there, Blossom, which was born on their farm from a horse they got who was pregnant. She's an Appaloosa and is very feisty and playful and as we were grooming Charlie she came over and tried to stir up some trouble. She is sweet though, just being a "toddler" so to speak. :)

As we were there some people dropped by to give a few of the horses some apples which I'm sure they thoroughly enjoyed. :)

I truly had a great experience and can't wait to go back next Saturday. Hope you had another ACN Barbaro and prayers for you, Erin and all others who need them.

Haven't had a chance to read the previous posts for today but will do that shortly. Sorry for the long message just had to tell SOMEONE how great my day was :).

Thank you, Barbaro and thank you to all of you who have helped to nourish my continuing love and appreciation of horses...was great to be there today. :)

Everyone,
Katie posted this at 8:13 and I posted it earlier today on the Discussion Board. There is a new video on www.hsmo.org about the accident in Missouri with the horses. WARNING this is a very graphic video detailing the accident. The first part of the video is very very sad, but then they show some of the survivors and inverview the vets, humane society workers, rescue workers, etc. and they all speak out about how horrific this accident was and the need to end slaughter now! I am a very sensitive person when it comes to animals and after I was done crying many tears, I have even more fight in me to get S1915 passed in the Senate.

Hi, everyone, just catching up (lucky me, no work today = Columbus/Indigenous People's Day here in CA...

The auction sounds like an emotional roller coaster, not at all as smooth as one would have hoped... but new kids coming to the block!

From yesterday: The latest (November) issue of VANITY FAIR with George Clooney on the cover has an article on page 224 on the current state of the wild mustangs and slaughter... The cover teaser is "BUSH'S WILD MUSTANG SLAUGHTER".

I haven't found a copy of the magazine yet, but the fact that this article is appearing in such a magazine reflects growing public interest and higher consciousness on these issues. One of the Northern California/Nevada equine rescue groups has video on their site of BLM roundups of these mustangs, completely exhausting the horses with helicopter chases, leaving exhausted foals who can't keep up in the desert, pregnant mares miscarrying, and doing it all with questionable intentions at inopportune times for the herds' health and safety. Not sure I want to read the article... However, forewarned is forearmed.

Bless you, Barbaro, for the inspiration which can sustain us in our quest for your brothers' and sisters' salvation.

Karen and Katie - I just watched the video - and I'm crying happy and sad tears. To see the Vet break down like he did - just tore me up. But to see Willie, DD , Frankie and a couple of others walking around - being cared for and being loved again makes the happy tears. It is well worth watching for everyone. I wish we could get the video on TV's across the nation.

Hi everyone
This may have been posted before and if it was please forgive me for posting again. I received a catalogue from Brushstrokes and they were offering an original oil of Tony Curtis' (for you young-uns he was a movie star ) But what caught my eye was that he mentioned in the article about owning and operating Shiloh Rescue and Sanctuary where he and his wife Jill rescue slaughter-bound, abused, neglected and abandoned horses and provide for their care and healing. Their Rescue is in Nevada and I wondered about FOB's in Nevada who would contact them and ask for help their help to convince the Senators from Nevada to aid us in the horse slaughter bill in the Senate. Movie stars carry clout sometimes!!!

I'll be back to get the news of Bobby.

I agree...I think all of them had some trouble talking about the accident. The one that got me too was the guy (maybe a rescue worker) that said he will never forget that day. I wish we could put a copy of that video on every Senator's desk in the morning!!

I'm so happy you cast change went well today, waiting until tomorrow for more details!!

Natalie,
This was accident that involved 42 horses being sent on a double decker trailer to slaughter. If you go to www.hsmo.org they are the Humane Society that rescued the horses. All the info is there...warning if you click on the video of the accident is is very sad and graphic at the beginning.

HI TO BARBARO NATION, FANS OF BARBARO, BANDS FOR THE HORSES AND ALL POINTS NORTH, SOUTH AND IN BETWEEN ...

And to my Dearest Annointed One ... Just waiting to hear the good news that your cast change was, not only successful, but more encouraging. I will keep holding positive thoughts for that good fortune.

###############################################

A VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO JEN for posting information on OUR BABIES ... I was especially interested in reading this about my two "kids", "Frankie" and "Clueless Too" ...

"...Frankie really made an impression on me. She was in their indoor arena with several of the others, and there were volunteers out there cleaning up the hay and manure. She just kept following them all around like a puppy dog. She wants attention so bad. Clueless too was the same way. He was a bit restless though. He kept walking from one group to another like he wasnt sure where he fit in..."

JEN ... I'm sure you didn't even realize the impact of your words when you wrote that "Clueless Too" kept walking from one grou pto another like he wasn't sure where he fit in". I had to laugh when I read that because that's WHY his name IS "Clueless Too" ... he DOESN'T KNOW where he fits in .... he's CLUELESS!!! And I love him so much!!

But, of course, it would stand to reason that my two babies are craving so much attention ... it seems to fit the profile for even the human men in my life! I'm wondering if both Frankie and Clueless Too are born under the sign of "Leo" in the zodiac! LOLOLOL

I'm so glad you got to see them, Jen, and thanks so much for putting the crosses for "the sixteen" and for the updates on the babies!!

FOR JEANETTE C .... Will definitely hold good thoughts and prayers for little Kylie, and will, of course, light a candle for her.

FOR CAROL REBECCA REISS ...

Thank you for your supportive comments for myself and Debbie B, both of your former home state of FL regarding Bernardini, Barbaro, etc. Everyone here has their heart in the right place and, at times, we all become just a little over-protective and demonstrative in our allegiance, loyalty and love for Bobby, and I certainly understand that. But I also 'feel' for Bernardini who did nothing 'wrong' except to race to the best of his abilities in the races that his connections entered him in. He had no choice in the field he was running in and he did not shy away from the best competition. And now we do learn the reason "why" he did not run in the Kentuck Derby. Enough said about this .... let's see what happens in The Breeders Cup and the awards handed out in due course.

I firmly believe that Barbaro's legacy will deserve the very coveted "Lifetime Achievement Award" which carries so much importance. What Bobby is doing for the sport of TB racing AND for equine health and well being in general transcends any 'feat' achieved on the race track. So, in essence, there is "No Contest" between Bobby and either Bernie, Lava Man, The Tin Man, Discreet Cat or anyone else anywhere else .... because of Bobby's "assignment" and achievements, he truly is in a class all by himself .... and he LIKES it there, at the head of the pack!! He learned well from his teacher ... BR!!!
