    Barbaro Updates: 142

    updates are now here.

Update 1099: Arlington may go with a synthetic track as soon as their next summer meet: Arlington may go synthetic. This would be fantastic! Fair Hill's sythetic track (Tapeta) may open on wednesday. A tractor keeps going round and round on it during morning training (its inside the dirt track which we are currently using), lets hope it is doing what it is supposed to be doing. Speaking of wednesday, that may also be the day Russell Baze breaks the record: Baze Collects Two Wins in Rain Sunday.

Finally, Delaware Park had a bad meet: Delaware has drop in handle. Some might suggest if they had a sythetic track, it would help with their entries, which in turn helps with their handle ...

Update 1098: I just spoke to Peter, who visited Barbaro after work today. He was upbeat. He groomed him etc. I am guessing this will be Peter's last visit before he heads to Florida, which is as soon as they get the remaining horses loaded onto the horse van tomorrow morning.

Lor in PA wrote this article for the Patriot News: Horses were never meant to be raised for food.

For those having trouble with the previous Japan Cup video, here is another: JRA Japan cup Nov.26.2006 (well worth seeing).

Sue McMullen sent this e-mail regarding Kieren Fallon's attempt to acquire a jockey's license for the last major international race meet (which we will cover) in Hong Kong:

As anticipated, the Licensing Committee of the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club has now turned down Kieren Fallon's application to ride at the Cathay Pacific International race meeting on December 10.

Kim Kelly, Stipendiary Steward and Secretary to the Licensing Committee said in a statement to media that 'although it was not appropriate for them to comment on Kieren Fallon's pending criminal proceedings relating to horse racing integrity in the UK, the decision not to grant him a license was consistent with HKJC's previous decisions not to permit jockeys who were subject of law enforcement investigations to ride in Hong Kong pending the outcome of those investigations.'

So one of Flat racing's finest horsemen will have to sit it out for the last major meeting of the year and this decision, although not a surprise, saddens many of his admirers in Europe who believe a man is innocent until proven guilty.

Update 1097: Another comfortable night last night for Barbaro (sunday night). Mrs. Jackson just called, and she had just visited. Of course I had to congratulate her on their wonderful victory yesterday! They took the "red eye" back last night.
update 12:10 pm, monday, november 27

Update 1096: No Barbaro update yet this morning. It was a busy morning this morning at Fair Hill. Eight horses to ride, a couple of new ones (green two year olds). It was also a gorgeous morning, withe a lovely sunrise mixed with a low lying fog.

Redaspen looks well after her race this weekend. I also caught up with Lil Klesaris who said their horses came back from their exploits in good fettle. Miraculous Miss will now have some time off. She has had a long season, interrupted by the horrific gate incident in the Acorn. Diabolical will also have a couple of months off (I think). They were very happy with him, he ran huge (just getting beaten by the Breeders' Cup sprint champion), and came out of the race well. Kong is King also ran well, with blinkers on. Of course he had to face what might be the best two year old in the country in NoBiz! I'll try to catch up with Barclay in the next day or two to get reports of his two massive runners over the weekend.

Update 1095: Here are a couple of reports of Showing Up's dazzling performance in the Hollywood Derby yesterday where he shattered the Stakes record on the turf at Hollywood Park:
Showing Up Good as Billed in Hollywood Derby
Showing Up continues turf dominance in the Hollywood Derby

We also have pictures: "Showing Up" wins the Hollywood Derby.

For those (many) of us who missed the Japan Cup late saturday night, early sunday morning, here it is (found on equidaily.com). I just love listening to the roar of the crowd as Deep Impact begins to make his move. Ouija Board ran a fantastic race in defeat (update 1090).

The Barbaro update will be after training hours again this morning. Keep calling.

Good morning, Everyone! Always wishing the Boy the best of hay and the day. Still curious as to how much his hoof has grown! But here is a suggestion for anyone Emailing Senator Frist on his website: he has no category for "Animal Welfare," but he does have a "Social and Moral Issues," and I would (and did) use that for the anti-slaughter campaign. Don't give up! An Aide in the Commerce Committee has said that what we are doing is working! (See "I Really Needed to Hear That" in Discussions). All the best, Mary

Hiya, Bobbey! The fog is starting to burn off here on the banks of the Thames. It was a total "white-out" at 5:30 AM. Now whenever I see fog it makes me think of LITF. It's supposed to be sunny and warm here again today. I hope that means "fun in the sun" for our sweet prince! Hugs, pets, & "scratches" from your pals in CT - Robyn, Brent, & Nikita

It is quite cold this AM in Washington State, with many schools in the area closed to to road and weather conditions. Presently low 30's where I live, with a high of only 35 with more snow on the way by the PM commute - 1 to 3 inches possible in Seattle! We'll just have to wait and see what happens as the day progresses.

A special Happy Birthday to Joan, Leigh and D'Anne!! How great that the three of you share the same day!

Good Morning ALEX, BIG B, and all FOB's,

Congrats to Showing UP!! This race takes place in California, and I read about it on an East Coast website - too funny!!

Just more inspiration from Joe at TB Friends:

"We said goodbye to Treats, and we hardly knew him. Treats came from the killer pens on Saturday, covered in urine and poop, and after a quick bubble bath he left for his new home with Claudia of Sacramento. Earlier this year Claudia went with us on two public trips to the killer pens, and she rescued two horses. An Arabian mare who could hardly walk but now she is healthy, and a quarter horse gelding who carries her grandson all over the apple orchards. Claudia saw the photo of Treats on the morning journal, so she immediately phoned to say her trailer is hooked up. And before the rain became serious Treats was at his new home, enjoying a warm stall and a hot bran mash. Three days ago Treats was doomed. But now all he has to do is cry out a little, and someone will come running. Room service with a smile. Alabama on his barn cd player..."

    AND

"It is November 27th, which means we say Happy Birthday to Allie of Salt Lake City, who today becomes a teenager. Allie writes us long letters, and last year she rescued a thoroughbred race horse from a small track near Cedar City. She calls him Wind, because the killer asked Allie how much cash she had and Allie showed him some money which blew away in the wind. A mad scramble, and the gelding stood still. Most of the money lost and Allie cried, so the killer says take the horse anyway. Without the wind Allie could not afford him. The wind and tears melted the heart of a horse killer. You gotta love these stories."

    ###
    FsOB:
From Maid M: The next two days are very much about hard work being its own reward. So even if it's tough (and major structural issues generally are) roll up your sleeves and take your best shot.
Plus(cuz she can't resist): Showing Up (who totally Showed Up) was born two days after Fog -- different year. Discreet Cat was born two days after Barbaro -- same year.

    Now to business:

Here's a repost excerpt of Deb, WI and ShelleyA's Thanksgiving recess strategy. As noted below, it couldn't hurt to contact the DC offices of the senators as well.

MESSAGE FROM DEBRA WI AND SHELLEYA

It is very important that everyone keep calling to express outrage about horse slaughter and ask for support for S1915. However, the calls should be short and polite. As many of you found out recently, you will only get different messages from each office and it will only confuse the issue.

If we look like we are not politically savvy, we will not be taken seriously. This has become VERY political now and we’ve been told that we will NOT actually be seeing what is happening behind the scenes.

It is true that the local offices are more interested in hearing from their constituents. That has been made clear by many of the calls from last week. We need to get more people involved from the states that are on our list….Nevada, Tennessee, Louisiana, Kentucky, Mississippi.

We would suggest that you also leave voice mail messages, send faxes and e-mails to the DC offices of your own senators and the ones mentioned below:

Contact these Senators to ask for action on The American Horse
Slaughter Prevention Act in any vehicle before adjournment. [Any vehicle means any bill that it can be attached to as an amendment, since there's no time for it to be passed on its own]

    Bill Frist
    Mitch McConnell
    Trent Lott
    Harry Reid

Also encourage and thank our two sponsors for their determination to
    get the bill passed -
    Mary Landrieu
    John Ensign

It is extremely doubtful that there is time for this bill to stand of it’s own. It will all be a matter of strategy and where to place it. Our supporters in DC ARE working on this and are trying to come up with the vehicle that will give us the best chance. That’s politics….it’s how our system works!!

We would both like to thank everyone for their commitment and urge you all to keep on fighting. Remember, no one thought it had a chance in the House and it passed with an overwhelming majority!!

    Cora,
I got your post about the fur last night.

Had to give my doggy, Alice, some attention. We had 2 extra dogs and 4 extra people in the house for the holiday and she is just realizing she is alone. She has started looking under beds and such for Kitty.

I understand the fur for color and texture, but I would never open the baggies either.

What I really wish I had is some kind of recording of his meows. He was a talker and very expressive with his voice.

Waking up is hardest so far. We always had a little love time before getting out of bed.

doing better at remembering the good each day.

    Blessings to all

Carol, what heartwarming stories to begin the day from TB friends. Thank you for sharing those.

Mish Mish, I lost my boy Sam, male Siamese, last September and I still miss him. His meows (constant talking!), love cuddles, chin kisses, everything. We adopted Alex, named after Afleet Alex, shortly after Sam passed. Though he will NEVER take Sam's place, he has brought his own special blend of love into our home.

I've got the "shingles" but taking med for it!!! Dr. says they sometimes come from sickness and the stress of being sick......so I'd better get over them fast so some lawyer doesn't grab me and "hang" me up on his building!!!
You know the old saying "hanging out a shingle thingy???"..................Stop groaning!!!

    Good morning, all!

Just dropping in to say I hope everyone had a great long Thanksgiving weekend.

Congrats to the Jacksons and Barclay Tagg--they deserve all the success they are getting. Showing Up is beautiful, and how thrilling to see the Lael colors charging to the lead...reminds me of a certain Big Boss Horse who rules the roost at NBC. And Edgar won a stake at Hollywood, too!

Praying for ACN, and for the hearts, souls and minds of those senators to be transformed into positive action on behalf of our beloved horses.

In order to maintain some "order" in the comments it appears I need to apply some additional "rules". Humor is fine, humor with sexual undertones is not. In order for us all to enjoy each others' company I ask everyone to try to find "middle ground" so we can get along and do what is most important, keep up to date with Barbaro and discuss all things important to horses.

Chat back and forth is fine, but please include #### at the beginning of your comment so it is easy for others to scroll past etc.

    Everyone
I've had a thought marinating in my head. Last week I emailed Eddie Kilroy at XM and asked why I hadn't heard much on HS from him. He emailed me back saying after his trip talking to Senators he returned to his ranch in Texas where XM had built a studio at his place. He said he'd had his listeners calling the Senators. I kept thinking that we don't have another HSUS designated Call In Day. Sooooo....I emailed Eddie just before TG asking if he'd collaborate on an FOB/Eddie listener Call In Day. Didn't hear back but I am persistant so I emailed again this morning. I said I wan't being a pest, alway enjoyed hearing from me and would do what he could.
My thought is to designate Monday, the day the Senators return for this day. I think Eddie will ask his listeners to do the same. What do you think?

Cora-I wanted to talk to you yesterday about your special cat loss rituals. I am so sad that I did not get my Boo & Sweetness's hair, now when I go to get a big fat old comforter out of the closet(one too large to be washed in my washer) I still find old cat hairs and I just cry and cry. It is most fearsomely sad, breaks my heart allover again. I should have gotten the imprints also. We have Pattycakes for children and pets here, bronzed shoes etc. or handprints, feetprints, pawprints. It makes me mad that I did not do that before they got so ill. Such a special thing to have their fur to touch or smell, but like Miss Mish-I miss their meows. They talked so much. I will stop. Now I am sad.

Good Morning, Barbaro Nation! I am very happy for the Jacksons and all the connections in the victory of Showing Up.Want to thank Alex and Tim Wooley for this wonderful site. We are really making a difference. --------- This morning I was awaken by the sound of the telephone ringing and to my surprise it was the Grand Rapids Press. They wanted to certify the letter I wrote them about the Bill S1915 and slaughtering of horses and my opinion regarding this issue. And Oh MY God did I talked. I gave him all the facts about it and cited TWR The man was very nice and he seemed very interested in the matter. I told him that we needed the truth to come out because the majority of people don't know what is going on. Most of them are unaware the same way I was.
He even agreed with me in certain issues. He told me he didn't promise anything ,but he will try to do something about it. PLEASE PEOPLE FROM MI CALL OR WRITE YOUR LOCAL NEWPAPER. I told him about this wonderful site and how we are trying to make a difference and save our horses. He was surprised to know that Ferdinand was eaten by the Japs. I think I got possesed by all the spirits of all those beautiful horses that I couldn't stop talking and he couldn't stop listening to me. I pray God that they will take the initiative to write something about it.

The paw prints can't be done while the animal is living, it would hurt too much. I always feel like I'm hurting them anyway, but then once I've got them I'm so glad I did it.

I know what you mean about finding fur around the house.

I didn't mean to make you sad. We just got on the topic last night because of Hector and Gabriella, but it was meant to be more of a "healing" type thing. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you.

Cora-You did not make me sad. I made myself sad. I just think of pulling the cover out of my dad's closet, for the first thing, it used to be my mom's closet(she is dead also) That is sad in itself.Breaks my heart too. I get the cover, put it on my bed, think I am safe and when I see the old familiar black and/or white fur-I just get very maudlin, and cry for
All my cats, my mama and all sadness. Yes I know it is kinda creepy.

I think it is weird that as a child/young adult I hardly ever cried. After being clinically depressed and having insomnia I cried more in a few years than my lifetime. Now I cry constantly, Barbaro has made me so much more compassionate towards people. Funny, I always was only that way towards animals, not humans. I have alittle more patience and compassion now. Learning of Barbaro, and you FOBs have taught me alot about the true meaning of caring. I lacked that towards people. I am getting better. Thank you.

    Hi Everyone

I read a disturbing article on Sunday about horses being stolen in the UK and shipped to the United States. Piebald and skewbald ( I think Americans call them 'paint')are being targeted : Rustlers target British paddocks as US demands trophy horses. We all know owners are distraught when their animals are stolen and I just hope the authorities can get hold of the people who are doing it. It's difficult for individuals to do much, but I reckon the more people who are aware of it, the better.

Anyway, percentage put away and when they retired like us humans, they have a retirement home and treat them like kings and queens for the rest of their days.

    It is only fair...

Cathy, thanks for asking about Felix. He is declining. He wants to eat but is taking only a little here and there and is spending most of his time in his carrier. He's on pain meds and I started giving him the Prednisone again yesterday but it doesn't seem to be helping much. I fear he has very little time left.

They were talking about the 3yo championship and how Bernardini would probably win. But both of them Said they didnt know how Barbaro could be left out. Gary said that If he had the chance to bet again Barbaro vs Bernardini in a race, he would take Barbaro hands down. He said B's derby was the single most impressive performance he has seen in his career. Frank of course concurred. Waiting for my daily dose of upbeat Barbaro updates.

Done with my personal critter chores and now off to making those 16 phone calls -- DC and local offices for Bayh and Lugar, my two from Indana; Frist, McConnell, Lott & Reid (sounds like a law firm, doesn't it, haha); and Ensign and Landrieu.

Let me know if anybody would like a repost of additional local office numbers for the Senators from Indiana and also Illinois. They all have more than one local office.

Sorry, can't help myself - here's what came next:

You make sixteen phonecalls, and what do you get?
Another day of horror for somebody's pet.
St. Peter, doncha call me 'cause I can't go
Before they close that slaughterhouse door.

(shades of "Sixteen Tons" - by Merle Travis, popularized by Tennessee Ernie Ford; if interested in how "hit" songs are written, see

    http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/parton/2/sixteen.html

Also have been hearing "sixteen phonecalls" to the tune of Sixteen Candles. (It really IS fun being me.)

REPOST OF REPOST OF THANKSGIVING RECESS STRATEGY

To JOAN ROYA who feels older, and to everyone with a birthday and/or feeling older:

Lord, won't you help me live just a little bit longer,
    Lord, won't you help me get just a little bit stronger;
We better be gettin' better, we ain't gettin' any younger,
    Come Judgment Day.

OH - The older we get, the stronger we get,
And the longer we do it, the better we get!

Birthday wishes to one and all. After all, like the old cliche - today is the first day of the rest of your life - and hence every day you wake up is, in fact, a birthday.

Simply wonderful, as well as spiritually uplifting for us people!! Thank you; and as always, thank you Alex, and the Jackson's for calling you with updates. I pray it continues.

    Dear Alex -
Thanks so much for the update. I've been praying this morning, as usual. Mrs. Jackson is so wonderful with her visits and calling you to let you know how Barbaro is doing.

Your initial post was very visual, as usual, very nice.

    Have a good day.

I think that Dr Dean and MMatz and Alex and Tim W could make up a BARBAROSHOP Quartet to sing at poolside...

That is CLASSIC. and I should know, haha. CJ

btw I have a perfect song for that group to sing: "That Naaaaging Feeling, or, Are You Horsin' Around With Someone Else?"

BARBARO, you are MAGNIFICENT, and your Mom and Dad Jackson are MAGNIFICENT too.

THANK YOU, MRS. JACKSON, for your unfailing courtesy and grace. We hold you and Mr. Jackson in the highest esteem.

While I'm giving thanks, thinking of Dr. R, the New Bolton staff, Michael Matz, Peter Brette, Dr. Kathy, KS Florist, and of course, our WebDaddy, the awesome Mr. Brown.

Just Remember when you buy the Derby book from Secretariat.com, a portion of the proceeds goes to laminitis research. Anything sold on that site contributes to research. Also i just recieved a beautiful thank you from Dell Hancock, for the flowers we sent to Pine Islands grave site. She is buried next to a row of pine trees and is also right next to Go for Wands dam, Obeah. Kind of fitting. 2 brilliant fillies lost in the BC. Jen

Hoping Jo form the UK's advice on the "cool blue links" works!

Furthermore, they did print my letter almost in it's entirety. That's pretty good in my book as my letter was over 600 words and they only wanted 200.

If this wakes just one more person up...I will have done okay!

Happy Birthday to D'Anne, Joan Roya and Leigh!!
    #############################

I'm glad that others are seeing the post about the great book on the 132nd Derby available at Secretariat.com. Of course, please feel free to repost as often as necessary!! I ordered mine last night when I got the "alert" from Secretariat.com in my email.
    ###################################################

Another great "Gift Idea" for the holidays that you may not be aware of ...

There's a new game out called "HORSEOPOLY" ... I happened to see it in a bookstore recently and I wanted it so bad but didn't buy it ... YET!! It's based on the game Monopoly but it's all horse-related instead. Instead of buying Park Place, railroads, etc., you're buying barns and stables and horses. In other words, you're building a horse empire instead of real estate! And all of the cards are horse-related; i.e. Collect Stud Fee, etc. It looks like a real fun game for horse lovers, so I'm passing this info along to all of you also. The game is available most anywhere that games are sold. I spotted it in the Books-A-Million bookstore the other day!!
    #################################################

I am still overjoyed with Showing Up's win yesterday at Hollywood Park. So happy and thrilled for Mr. and Mrs. Jackson and all the connections. They deserve this so very much and these blessings are being given to them for so many wonderful reasons. God Bless Gretchen and Roy Jackson!
    #################################################

Dearest Annointed One ... Another Comfortable Night for you, Sweet Barbaro! So happy that your recovery continues one step at a time but always with improvement and progress. You are the Champion in so many ways that really count ... on and OFF the racetrack!!
    #################################################

By the way, in the most current "standings" for 3 year old ... "Showing Up" has moved into the #2 position!!! Now if he wins the award, I will be absolutely deeeeeeee-lighted!! And I'm sure that he will "show up" to accept in person!! LOL That's what he does, right? Shows up!!
    #################################################

Just one small comment about how we should all conduct ourselves on this site, in my humble opinion. There are discussion boards and forums and chat rooms for "tasteless humor", but it doesn't belong on this site out of respect for Tim Woolley, Alex Brown, Barbaro, the Jacksons, Dr. Richardson, Michael Matz, Peter Brette, Edgar Prado and all of the other connections that I may have missed.

Yes, we ALL work very hard on behalf of Barbaro, horse rescue, horse slaughter, etc., and no one is more valuable or important than another simply because they are more visible or outspoken about what they do. That's wonderful and great and I tip my hat to each and every one of us ... none is better; each is different.

Having said this, however, still does not entitle anyone to just "have a little fun and humor" at the expense of other people or at the expense of other posters here on this public site. The forum and the chat rooms are set up and designed just for this ... "chatting back and forth" in ongoing conversations that really have very little to do with horseracing, training, or other horse-related issues. They hang on the periphery because Barbaro is mentioned in some humorous manner, or Dr. Richardson is the brunt of some double-entendre joke that borders on tasteless and disrespectful. Especially with our focus being on S 1915 and the impact that we want to make, do we really want to be seen as "class clowns" here on this open site? Is this the image we want to convey to all those who come here to read about important, serious issues?

Here's a thought ... if a whole bunch of people here want and enjoy this "tasteless humor", then why not chat back and forth right on the discussion boards or in chat? Why do it here? Why? I don't get it, and I don't really think it's fun or enjoyable, but that's just my personal opinion. But if it keeps up and that envelope keeps being manipulated and pushed at Alex repeatedly testing his patience and understanding, a very kind and generous gesture of giving us the comments section on this site might just be taken away, and if that happens, just consider the alternative. That's all I am going to say, except that I see it starting all over again today and it really does appear to be disregarding Alex's wishes not to mention complete disrespect for both him and Tim Woolley and the purpose of TWR and why we are here. Working hard does not necessitate a reward of "tasteless humor and fun" at the expense of others ... even a horse named Barbaro.

So, if you want to put me into the category of "Hall Monitor" along with Anna Lee, who, by the way, I admire for re-posting Alex's new rules, then I will be more than happy to stand with her.

I don’t get it, why is it the 6 or 8 of you feel it’s ok to banter back and forth every day on the posting page? If it’s sharing humor, why can’t that be done on the message board or in the chat room? Start a thread called “Carrot Posey Humor.” We will all come visit if time permits.

Sunday, one of the old regulars mentioned she didn’t post here any longer because she was ignored or worse yet run off with unkind emails. What’s up with that? It got me thinking, there are a lot of people missing who use to post regularly. I think we need to ask Why??? Is it because they have to wade thru miles of chat each day to get to what they are interested in reading. I don’t know the answer for sure. But my best guess would be, yes. I do know, I am embarrassed to think Mrs. Jackson might read some of this childish stuff and reconsider her generosity about providing updates on Barbaro. Or worse yet, Senator Frisk might take time and look us up. Only to throw up his hands in disbelieve that this is what we are all about. This group that is driving him crazy with daily phones call.

So count me in with the group that objects to the daily “soap opera” on the main page of this site.

To those who said they were KVELLING MIT NACHAS before, and to those who may have wondered what that means, allow me to elucidate: (from an email I sent to Margie a while back, defining the term per her inquiry)

Kvelling mit Nachas means feeling great exhilaration/joy/pride due to the success/accomplishment/good fortune of a loved one. "Kvell" is a verb and "nachas" is a noun. Examples - "When I saw my child/niece/granddaughter/neighbor get an award at graduation, OY, I was Kvelling mit Nachas!" "When I heard Barbaro went out to graze for the first time, OY, I was Kvelling mit Nachas!" It is a Yiddische phrase that I am trying to get into common parlance because it describes a very positive state of mind/emotion and there is NO EQUIVALENT PHRASE IN ANY OTHER [major] LANGUAGE. (Maybe the Eskimos have a word for it, haha.)

Interestingly, there is a German word for the OPPOSITE of kvelling mit nachas. It is Schadenfreude, which means the joy one feels at seeing/hearing of the suffering of others. There's a fast-rising comedy troupe by that name (Schadenfreude) that performs at the club my band and I call home; they go on national tours. Watch for that name. [end of excerpt from email to Margie]

Linnie, thank you for what you just said. I do not post on this comments page because I just do not feel comfortable doing so. However, I have been here since the beginning reading almost everyday.

When I did post the other night that I too was offended by comments that have "sexual undertones" to them in regard to Dr. Richardson, Michael Matz and even Barbaro. I was told to "get a life" and if I didn't like it to leave!

I enjoy reading all the wonderful information that this site has to offer in regards to Barbaro, horse racing, the anti-slaughter issue, etc. But not when disrespect is shown to the wonderful people that take care of Barbaro.

Alex was kind enough to set up a chat room. These types of converstions should be taken there.

I've reposted. Need some feed back.

    NEWS FLASH.........NEWS FLASH....NEWS FLASH

Barbaro Team: Was sitting here at work when I got a call on my cell phone....it was a blocked number which is usually won't answer. For some reason, I just picked it up and lo and behold it was Mr. Harry Aleo. I had been sending him letters asking him about a beautiful race horse he has now called "Smokey Stover". I saw his picture on the photos for Lost in the Fog's memorial. I was almost knocked off my chair. He called me personally to thank me for my caring for "Foggy" and to let me know that he appreciates hearing from me. He sent me a DVD of Lost in the Fog's races and information and pictures of Smokey Stover. What a beautiful gentleman. He even mentioned Mr. and Mrs. Jackson. He said they were the nicest and kindest people you would want to meet. They sent him a card when Lost in the Fog passed away. I can't believe he actually took time to call me. I had to get on the website to let you guys know. I just got off the phone with him.

    You got that right.

Posted by: Renee Antaya at November 27, 2006 8:22 PM

Oh good. The disagreements about who can post what have started up again. I'm so glad; it's been at least 24 hours since the last round and I was getting worried that the peace and tolerance would last.

It seems like there is indeed a control issue going on here. I personally lean towards free speech and scrolling past, but Alex did post his rules the other day. The rules are pretty clear: no sexual humor/innuedoes. Do ## if you're chatting off-topic. The rules did not forbid chat.

For the sake of peace and quiet, and unity; for the sake of SB 1915 and the horses; for the sake of the FOB's reputation should some Senator read Comments:

I am asking those who want to chat, to ## as Alex has asked. If you want to get colorful, please go to Forum/Chat, as Alex has asked.

I am asking those of you who don't like the chat here that meets Alex's rules to scroll past and stop complaining. The complaining and bickering looks just as bad to new people and outsiders as the "inappropriate" chat does.

I have been a devoted poster here since May 22 and ALL OF YOU ARE DRIVING ME NUTS AND ALL OF YOU ARE ON THE BRINK OF DRIVING ME AWAY.

    Hi Mr. B,

Every once in a while us 4 legged creatures like to reminisce about happy times. Today, I took that trip back to your dazzling KD victory in May and back further (or farther I get them confused) to the race you first won. Dazzling dynamo that's what you are.

Fast forward to today, and what have we here? You're still the dazzling dynamo, and still thrilling us this time with your unique spirit to live.

I hope that you were able to get out and graze today, and enjoy. Actually, you probably will do so most of the days this week (I think one is supposed to be rainy.)

    Enjoy.

Humor is OK. We all have so much pressure feeling responsible for the deaths of horses, and the politics of power, that being goofy takes the edge off sometimes. I read an update about Barbaro "guarded" this weekend, and I stressed about what it meant. We're all carrying collective weight, so I also understand the more serious opinions, also. Love to Barbaro

We have a kitty with Irritable Bowel Syndrome - IBS. ( Yes, it's true.) We almost lost him 2 years ago. To get food down him, we mixed free range chicken broth with chicken baby food, and some chopped fine chicken breast and a little bit of rice. We heated this mixture up so it was warm not hot in the microwave. You could probably put it in something that you could squeeze into his mouth. I will remember Felix in my prayers, you too.

    Bonnie,
That's what is happening. It's a control issue. And I refuse to get involved the trouble started this way before when Alex almost closed the board down. Since then it has been fun peaceful and quiet, and all of have gotten along just fine. I will not contribute to this garbage but I will continue to be MYSELF,like it or not.

Posted by: Renee Antaya at November 27, 2006 8:14 PM

    ###############################################

You are so right, Renee, it IS a control issue now because certainl people have chosen to make it that. When we all first came to this board, it was about finding out how Barbaro was. At that time, his injuries/laminitis were life-threatening and we were all concerned for his welfare and wanting to get the latest information on his condition. That's why we all gathered here each day. If you go back and read the posts from the very beginning, they were ALL about Barbaro and horseracing and nothing more.

But a group of people wanted to take this site in another direction, claiming that we need humor and lightness because what we are doing is so serious, etc. Yes, what we are doing IS serious business, but the comments section of this site wasn't meant to become "comic relief" for the masses based on "tasteless humor", which, by the way, are not my words but the words of someone else who coined the phrase and that's why I have it in quotes.

Alex was kind enough to give is not only a forum with discussion boards but also a chat room where people, when and if they want to, can go there and talk among themselves and yes, even get all the comic relief they want. I do not come here for comic relief ... this is not a social board for me, except that yes, I have made some nice quality friendships here, but all because of our love for Barbaro and horses and NOT because I need this comic relief from such a heavy burden that we all carry here.

There's a great quote from Harry Truman of years ago ... "If the heat's too hot, get out of the kitchen." What that means to me is this ... if people coming here are so weighted down with burdens and seriousness because of something they elected to take part in; i.e. updates on Barbaro, horse rescue, horse slaughter, better track safety, etc. then these people should find some other way to relieve the stress. This is a public board devoted to horseracing. This is not a social board devoted to whatever you want to talk about whenever you want to talk about it.

And, please forgive me, Renee, but it's attitudes just like yours that are creating the friction here ... "I will continue to be MYSELF, like it or not." Well, that's a perfect scenario for discord. Why? Because when you choose to post on a public site such as this, there are "rules and regulations" that must be followed in order for EVERYONE to be respected and considered. This isn't a "Me, Myself and I" world, Renee, and others must be considered and respected also, and that doesn't mean that you must 'fall in line' with the posters. No, it means that you must respect, consider, and defer to the people who own this site and to the purposes and intentions of it, according to the owners of this site.

Alex Brown has connections to Mr. and Mrs. Jackson ... they respect him because he conducts himself with respect. Alex speaks to Michael Matz and Peter Brette and Dr. Richardson, et al and because of his connections, he and his site need to be handled with the utmost of respect and consideration for all of these people. It's not about control the way that you see it, but, of course, if people want to cause others to feel guilty, they can find a way to do that also. There are people here who are easily manipulated and prone to feeling guilty, and all it takes is a few well-placed words to cause people to feel they have overstepped.

Many people have left this board, Renee, since the beginning, and I am on the threshhold of leaving it myself, as Alex knows. All you need do is just read the daily posts all day long and you will see the same handful of posters engaged in chat. Then it's Lunch which you so aptly post ... time for lunch, and then when I get back, we will all laugh and have fun again. Why can't you do this on the discussion board or chat room? Why? Because you don't want to ... yes, the control issue lays at the feet of a handful of people. The rest just want this board back the way it was when we all first came here ... it is a far cry from that now.

I am very aware just how many posters have left here, believe me. I don't see them posting anymore. Why don't you ask why these people don't post here anymore? You probably would not like the answer.

There are also people here who, in their effort to control the site and beg that we need humor and fun, etc. because they are, in some way, incapacitated. My heart and prayers go out to all of these people, but again, if they desire 'comic relief', and I can understand that completely, then go somewhere else and laugh. Alex has bent overboard to give the people of this board everything they have asked for. But that's not enough. They want more, and they want to bend the rules to their way of thinking and so it becomes a power struggle. Why does it have to be this way when there are so many options to choose from.

Can't we compromise instead of saying "I am going to be MYSELF, like it or not." What kind of compromise is that? You have the discussion boards, you have the chat room, you have tons of forums that you can start all kinds of threads about. Can't you just leave this open site to the purity of it's purpose? Especially with hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of people coming here each day and week to find out about horseracing and Barbaro. There are so many ###### posts here anymore, that it's like finding a needle in a haystack to locate information about horses in general, horseracing, Barbaro and other related issues. But if you are bound and determined to be yourself, like it or not, then you have just convinced me that you really don't give a darn about Tim, Alex, TWR, etc. You don't care about respecting them, the Jacksons and all of the connections involved. And that is your choice, but I certainly do not and will not be a part of it, and if you want to see this site reduced to nothing more than a chat session among a handful of people with no regard to anyone or anything else, then you have won. Much of what is posted sounds like a bunch of adolescent women who are looking for some excitement in their lives and want to take this board in a direction that suits their agenda. The rest of us do not want to shape this site into anything more than what it was when we first came here. I want that TWR site back ... a site that I enjoyed coming to with respect and consideration for all. That is not what this site is today, and sadly, I must say that I'm finding it increasingly difficult to be a posting contributor anymore. So, if this is what you all want, as I say, you have won, but I'm not going to look for sympathy from anyone by walking out and then waiting for my people to beg me to come back. If I leave, no one will know about it but me.

I choose peaceful co-existence with due consideration and respect for all of us, but I can't achieve that by myself. If you and others are willing, I extend the olive branch; if not, you've made your decision which I will note.

You know that he is probably a very busy man with his horses and his business......but just to take time out to call me personally because of my love and heartfelt feelings for "The Fog" is just something that I thought would never happen. Now, I'm sitting here waiting for the phone to ring again. (silly me).

I used to post regularly, and now post a little, and virtually always about S. 1915. A few people have said that many have left because of the chat on the site. I need to say that I have not pulled back because I find the comments to be offensive, but because I find the bickering and policing to be disheartening.

I pray for everyone here who is ill or whose pet is ill. I seldom feel comfortable in voicing that, because I know some consider that off-topic.

A lot of funny stuff comes into my head, but I don't post it, again because so many people frown on people who post funny stuff. And no, the things I refrain from posting are not off-color; they are just funny. I don't tend so much toward the off-color stuff, although it does not make me crazy to see it here.

I have a lot of personal, sad days because of illness in my family, but I choose not to reveal them, because I no longer feel this is a safe place, and have not for some time.

I have a lot of thought about how Barbaro is doing, but, again, I would really rather not post too often here, so I don't often share them.

Again, it is NOT the light stuff that makes me uncomfortable. It is the punitive tone that creeps into the Comments section that makes me uncomfortable, and also the argumentative tone on both "sides".

Please, I don't want ANYONE exhorting me to participate more. That's not why I'm posting this, and I really don't want anyone to try to draw me out. I just also don't want anyone to misinterpret why I have pulled back, over the months.

    Enough.

Please call your senators. That's the main thing. Let's just do that, instead.

Lynda -- Of course, you're right; now that Alex has said everything here has to be clean, everyone needs to observe that.

    Posted by: Marilyn/CA at November 27, 2006 9:48 PM

This is who STARTED ALL THE TROUBLE.

    ######################################

Lynda ... I wasn't the person who stipulated or requested using #### in the first place. This is all becoming funnier by the moment. I do use #### in almost all of my posts, but you must be referring to my most recent post where I neglected to use ###. I apologize, but again, it was not me to instituted it in the first place ... I am just following the rules.

And yes, I agree in that Alex did say that chatting was fine and I didn't intend to lump it all in together, so, again I apologize, but sometimes all that is being done is back and forth chatting and some of us have to scroll almost the entire page to find something that pertains to why we are here in the first place, but again, that's OK.

My biggest concern is the "off color humor" being used here by a certain group of people who just seem intent on pursuing it, and it really does undermine the good names of Alex, Tim and all of Barbaro's connections and it doesn't bode well for the respectability and reputation of this site.

I said what I needed to say; it's now up to Alex and Tim as to how they want their site viewed and assessed by the people who visit here. If I don't like it, I will leave as others have done; no harm, no foul, my choice.

Posted by: Linnie at November 27, 2006 9:58 PM

If you had friends in your home who didn't agree and started arguing with each other, how would you feel?

That is exactly what we are doing to ALEX. We are upsetting and embarrassing him in his home. Have you forgotten the national exposure this site has received?

Many of you are my friends and some I don't know, but doesn't mean I am siding with anyone.

Complaining and defending yourselves is the same thing, arguing!

For sake of the horses, STOP IT!

Yesterday, I recommended this site to several people and they were excited about coming on to this site to learn about BARBARO's recovery, horses, and the anti-slaughter Bill. Now, I will be embarrassed to recommend this site to anyone.

    PLEASE, please STOP IT!

I respect my friends, please respect your friends.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but we represent FANS OF BARBARO, please don't have that taken away from us.

like most on this site I feed off the daily updates on Barbaro's condition. The relationships here, the care & compassion expressed everyday is the true energy force of this Board. Without the comraderie the personality of the Board would not be as inviting. I don't condone sexual innuendo here by I am not offended by good, clean fun.
First and foremost, we must see S1915 through to the bitter end. While we sit here and bicker over control issues & comedic postings, horses are being slaughtered. Two short weeks remain in this window of opportunity. PLEASE STAY THE COURSE AND SEE THIS THROUGH!!!!!!!

Each and every one on this Board has something to contribute. Look at what so many of our group efforts and individuals have accomplished thus far.
Wouldn't it be more prudent at this stage of the game to agree to disagree, get S1915 passed and then everyone who wishes can move on?

At some point before Alex comes on and finds the site has had a melt down again. We need to step back and try to understand another persons prospective, other than our own. Right now would be the right moment to say to one another I hear what you are saying and I'm sorry if my views have offended anyone. For my part, all I want is to be able to find what I am interested in quickly when I log in during my lunch or breaks. I also want to be proud of what someone might read should they decide to see what I have been doing with my time for the last 6 months. I don't want anyone to go away. More than anything else, I want the site to be respectful of everyone. And Alex did provide us a way of doing that. So, I am sorry if my views have harmed anyone. Renee, you are acting so immature telling people that they are aliens and to shut up. That kind of behavior is not tolerated anywhere. The only problems on this board have been with you. You and Rachel. You and Mattie. You and Linnie. You and Shelley. If you think you are so funny join a stand up club and do your act on stage. What do you do for employment that you can stay on the computer the whole day harrassing people? I can't imagine what your employer does that he doesn't see how much of a waste it is to pay your salary

    ### Oy Vey ! I haven't the time to read each post - but from scanning - I can see that the good advice and warnings are being ignored - and that the hormones are at it again ! I cannot emphasize enough how this petty bickering stuff DEMEANS each of you who participates. We have such important things to accomplish in TWO WEEKS -
isn't it possible to ONLY focus ON BARBARO - and S1915 - and the good and interesting links provided generously by Alex and others relating to horses ???? YOU ARE WASTING YOUR ENERGY !
    Re-channel into better use - 2 weeks only -
then ... mosey along ! I URGE YOU TO RESPECT our host - and all related to BARBARO - and our job at hand. It will take all of us - working in the same direction. Toughen up - "so what" if no one responds to your post ......... don't post personal stuff ...... focus ONLY on S1915 -
and horse related stuff - take everything else to a chat room or your cell phone. PLEASE LISTEN !

Hi Everyone! I haven't read the postings for a long time for the same reasons being discussed above in terms of what this site has become as opposed to what it was meant to be. Each day I will make a posting to The Champ and have refrained from reading the other posting because I find some of them so disrespectful, off the real topic and showing such a lack of consideration for Alex and his intentions for this site. I personally will continue to post here, but as I said I will do so without reading the other posts for the reasons I have given above. I usally post on the UP site also getting much better vibes as I do so. No negativity or picking at each other. Pretty classy I would say which is what our Barbaro has an abundance of and is one of his endearing qualities.
    Sooooooooo-
Hi there Handsome! I hope your day was a good one. I too worry about you best friends leaving to head south leaving you behind. I hope you can cope with this and adjust as well as you have done with the other tough moments in your recovery. You are one special horse, loved by so many who are sending their love to you each day. I hope you feel it and allow it to sustain you over the months ahead. Love you Handsome - bunches. Many hugs and kisses on your beautiful nose.

Please, anyone who wants to continue this discussion, go to the Discussion Board. Lynda P has set of a thread. We have come so far on this site, on so many horse related issues. This site has earned the respect of Mr and Mrs Jackson, who have been willing to take the time to give us updates on Barbaro. I am so afraid that Alex will close down this site after reading the posts. We are all here because of a Miracle, named Barbaro. He needs us to be friends, work together on issues and show everyone who accesses this site, what a wonderful caring group of folks we can be.

"I love it," Roy Jackson said. "We would not have probably been able to be as positive and strong. Hi All:

Just wanted to let everyone know my girl Ambling Rose ran today in the 6th race at Philadelphia Park. I am happy to say she is a maiden no more. I am so proud of her. They were closing on her and even got past her at one point. True to form she dug right back in. She will not be passed. She probably will never blow out a field, but I believe she can now get the job done. I only wish I was there to see it. I taped it and watched it when I got home from work. It's not the same as being in the winner's circle though. I am just so thrilled none the less.

Hi Bobby: I have a nice little girlfriend for you when you get all better. She's a sweety. I am so happy that your condition is improving. I knew you could do it. I love ya big guy. You keep healing and remember, baby steps my friend lead the way home.

I just wrote this but for whatever reason, it's not showing up. If it comes through later on, I apologize in advance for being redundant.

Anyway, Ambling Rose ran in the sixth race today at Philadelphia Park. I am happy to report she is a maiden no more. My girl won and I am so proud of her. True to form she would not let anyone past her. They were closing on her and actually got a little ahead of her at one point but she came right back. Now I don't think she will ever win in a blow out(that's just not her style) I now believe we have a legitimate race horse on our hands, and she's cute too. Hope you had your bets in on her.

Hi Bobby: Do I have a girlfriend for you. You'll have to come check her out when your feeling better. She's a sweety. I am so happy to hear about your improving condition. I knew you could do it. Just keep up the good work and remember, baby steps will lead you home. Love ya big guy

Annie sometimes a little "Spitit" is needed too! Sounds like a great idea! Lots of my neighbors put their lights up over this weekend, (seems to be kinda traditional here) and I groused about how early it was, not even December 1. Well, that's Friday, so what's a day or two. 'sides, it's a great moodlifter to see the lights and smell those wonderful fragrances of evergreens. I might just have to get at it tonight! Susan E.,

If you're here, first I need to apologize. I haven't responded before now about Felix but I have included both of you in my prayers since you posted his health concerns.

I have been trying to think of the right words to say to make your fear and hurt disappear. I still don't know what to say.

I have been in the situation of feeling desperate to help my ailing Little One. I remember the rush of emotions and attempts to remember EVERY bit of information that I MAY of heard in the past that could help her. It was overwhelming and exhausting.

Is this something like what you're experiencing? I feel SO bad for you and Felix. There are so many caring, kind-hearted people here, you know that. I have been reading posts of suggestions, prayers, and well-wishes to you and Felix. You have so much support and love here.

Again, I'm sorry I don't have the perfect words to make this better for you. Please just know, you are not alone. Someone is always here, it seems! I'm here. If I can help, please let me know.

Hug him, love him. (I know you are!)
    Take care Susan E.

Judy, Jake, Jeanette, Julie, D'Anne, others who recently posted your kind thoughts about my Felix:

Thank you so much. This is a very hard time, as you all know all too well. I can't get him to eat more than a few bites now and he doesn't want to be touched very much. I fear he will be gone this week.

I appreciate the support and good wishes I've received from the FOB's more than I can say. I also fear this site is going to be shut down permanently very soon, because a very few people cannot stop fighting and attacking others, cannot follow Alex's very clear and simple rules, and are ruining things for the thousands of Barbaro believers who come here every day.

C'mon, you guys. Is this what you want? Whatever's going on over in Forum right now on this topic, same question: is this what you want? To see the whole site gone? Will you still be happy about having your last word when everything is gone? If the slaughter ban doesn't pass this term and its supporters have to start over in January, and horses are dying and this site isn't here--will it be worth it to you? When you can't get a Barbaro update twice a day anymore --will it be worth it to you then ?

I've been thinking/worrying about you and Felix all day. I am so very sorry for the direction he seems to be taking.

I hope you know that, when the "time" comes, there will be quite a few of us right there with you, mentally holding your hand and patting Felix on the head.

I just wish there was something else I could do, other than wish that things were different for both of you.

To Everyone else. when things get upseting, when we want to lash out and argue, remember what we are here for, and what we are all about. Let us not disgrace ourselves in bickering and fighting.

When we get that way, Please go to this page and read the Rainbow Poem and look at the faces of those that have crossed over, those that were loved .. Those that have no voice to "speak" but have silent voices we are hearing and fighting for.. (I hope my link works!!) Let us not forget them!!!

I am excited about Showing Up! I am excited about Ouija Board! I am thrilled about synthetic tracks being considered and/or installed around the country (particularly Arlington, which had such an abysmal number of casualties this season).

I am happy to go to gratefulness.org and light candles every single day. I light for Barbaro, Pine Island, Foggy, and will add Edgar (my hero!) and Michael, the Jacksons, and others to my daily routine.

If anyone chooses to be contrary, negative (or just plain "rude, crude and basically unattractive" on this board), I ignore their narrowmindedness and petty behavior because I choose to concentrate on the bigger picture here.

It started with Barbaro and has "just growed" from there.

Do not acknowledge the troublemakers; they will eventually lose interest and slither away. There are too many wonderful things that are going on here, and we need to act with class--just like the people involved with this site, with Barbaro, and will all the issues we have come to embrace here.

    Happy Birthday D'Anne

I did my morning ritual lighting a white candle for Barbaro's foot to grow and for Bob Jr..

Just wanted to note that the Jackson's where reading these pages in the begininning and responded with a very nice note contrary to someones reply that "there is no proof"" . They where just overjoyed at the time as I remember of the response after the accident. They where dealing with so much heartache but found comfort in the responses. It is in the early pages.

So happy Showing Up won and had quite a load to carry to win and he did it!! He is very gorgeous and it was scary to see the same numbers and colors as the accident at Pimilco. Thank goodness!!!

Be careful with that idea. If you can really carefully control how much goes through it and how FAST it might be okay, but if it goes too fast and he aspirates it, well, just trust me, that won't be a good thing at all.

The eyedropper is much slower, but you will have better control.

    To All FOBs
I am deeply saddened by today's events. TWR has been such a great place to hang out. To exchange information, encouragement, compassion, friendship....I could go on. Everyone in this community has something to contribute to the whole.
The BIGGER PICTURE here is S1915. Please don't lose focus of the fact that thousands of innocent horses, young, healthy, stolen, and elderly who deserve a decent end, are being inhumanely slaughtered and will continue unless we pass this Bill.
After several email exchanges with Eddie Kilroy at XM radio we may be able to get one final Call In push to the Senate and very few here seem to even care. What's up with that. Please....2 short weeks left for the brass ring.

Susan E.- I am happy to see Felix ate some food just now. I have been reading horrible awful posts since 6:00. I came home and have been crying for you and Felix, and am comforted a little that he is trying to eat.I have been slightly upset due to site discord, but more upset due to poor Felix being down. You being upset is so sad to me too. I remember so well the empty black feeling in the pit of your stomach, the "waiting" if you will. It is a horrible way of putting it, but so dastardly in it's truth.

My cousin who is only 30 something had a light stroke is in hospital, he is okay though, shockingly. My sister in Michigan is very sick from those stupid chemo meds she is taking for her autoimmune hepatitis. She has lost 10 lbs in less than 7 days, and her hair is already falling out. Her daughter is feverish, so it has been a grand afternoon all around. Antidepressants anyone? I am ..this close to asking my Dr. for some more wellbutrin. I am tired of crying.

Please lets all just get along from now on, Can't we all just get along? (give credit where its due-Rodney King)

I love you people and it is making my ulcers hurt to see the discord and evilness develop here. We have to be diligent in our desire to go forward.WE have to be able to make the difference that I know we can accomplish with unity.

Just checking in with everyone-I have been out of town for Thanksgiving and am catching up. All I can say right now is that we have to embrace these last 2 weeks because it is ALL WE HAVE LEFT. nOTHING ELSE IS MORE IMPORTANT AT THIS POINT THAN THE MAIN MISSION OF STOPPING SLAUGHTER. It's hard to always stay focused and can be very tiring and redundant doing the same thing over and over, calling senators over and over. But PLEASE everyone let's pour our energy into these last few weeks so S1915 can get passed this year! I believe S1915, and Barbaro, are the common denominators of everyone's concern and passion right now. With many other related concerns and passions. Cmon' everyone, we're so close!

Susan E., I feel so much for you. It seems like only yesterday we went through it, and as everyone knows here, it broke our hearts. And so many of us have suffered that pain. It's the burden of people who love animals. If we didn't have the capacity to love, and to take care of our loved ones all their lives, we wouldn't go through this pain. But I know that you would not take back, for one minute, your time with Felix on this earth. That you would never say, "I wish I'd never known him."

None of that helps, of course. It just hurts. And we hate to see anyone we love suffer.

But Felix is a lucky boy, even now, as painful as this is. He is far luckier than most animals on this earth, and he knows he is loved. Crying now. Felix, God bless and keep you. And you, too, Susan E.

I care that Becky isn't well - and that Rachel isn't well ......... and am not sure whether or not Edgar P is not well ..... but I care about him too ! Most especially - I care about Barbaro's continuing improvement and that he will not have difficulty with Peter and Michael gone ............... sooooooo ....... count on me to care !!

    Hi Barbaro, angel!

By now you are probably sleeping and dreaming those wonderful horsey dreams. I hope this is a night of continued healing. Please feel safe and loved.

Mr & Mrs. Jackson, thank you so much for continuing to inform Alex about Barbaro each day now that Michael and Peter are leaving. You are very gracious to remember us.

I must admit that I really didn't feel like calling the senators today, but I did anyway. I remember Barbaro, Darlin and the Kaufman 400 who are now more and more numberous. I am going to dedicate tomorrow's calls with renewed vigor to the Fans of Barbaro who have done so much over the last 6 months. WE CAN GET THIS DONE!

Yes the turkey baster would be way to much. Do you have any chicken broth??? Mix it with chicken baby food and put it in the eye dropped.
Put a little at a time in him. Wait 10 or 15 minutes and put some more in his mouth.

####Susan, I read where Felix ate a little of his Friskies...That's good!...you're doing all that you can do for this beautiful lil fella. You know that Felix is always in my prayers and I light candles for him every day. Keep using the eye dropper...you can control the dosage much better.

Barbaro sweetie...no matter what storms visit this site, one thing is for sure - you are the focus and you are loved!

I hope you had a good day, and I'm glad that Peter came over to see you. Time to tuck you in now, babycakes. Fluffing up the bedding, turning on the nite lite, whispering this in your beautiful ears
You'll never know just how much we love you
You'll never know just how much we care
And if we tried, we still couldn't hide our love for you
You ought to know, for haven't we told you so, a million or more times.....Hugs and smoochies!

Prayers for all who need them.

Congratulations to the Jacksons for their big win with Showing Off. In one of the articles Roy Jackson was interviewed about Showing Off's win and he praised Barbaro and all the Barbaro fans. That pleases me because it shows that the Jacksons love their horses, whether winning races on the track or winning a fight for life.

    Good evening all,

Is anyone still interested in obtaining a Breyer model of Barbaro? I have two extra. I'm not trying to make money on them so I will offer them for what I paid including shipping plus boxing/shipping to you. By November I panicked everytime anyone said theirs had arrived since mine hadn't so I guess I confused Breyer with my phone calls and faxes regarding the order. In any case, they sent (and charged me) for 4 instead of 2. You can email me at merrigay@msn.com if interested. I thought about putting these on ebay but what a hassle plus fees and why not let FOB's buy one if there is any interest. I'm not a dealer or anything--was just adding to my granddaughters' Breyer collection. Thanks.

Good evening, FFOBs and Horse Lovers Everywhere!
    ########
Now for my Daily Senator Email Contact List! They are: Frist 6 times, McConnell 6 times, Lott 4 times, Rockefeller 4 times, Hutchison 4 times, and Burns 4 times. I know, not much, but for some I had to tailor my message to them, which took time. Iam trying to Email all the members of the Commerce Committee, plus throw in some of the doubtfuls to try to get them to at least remain neutral, if not bring to our side, so I'll keep plugging away!
    ########
For my part, I want to let all of you guys and gals know that I enjoy reading all of your posts! I value the information that comes out of each and every one! I even enjoy the jokes, too, as long as they're not too far afield. I, too, have those times when I want to crawl into a hole and not be bothered for awhile! And so on and so on and so forth! We are comprised of a very diverse group of individuals, whose names are too numerous to mention, each with our own beliefs and values, drawn here for the purpose of learning more about horses and the people who own and work with them, and seeing that all horses have a great shot at living a dignified and full life, just like Barbaro! I certainly have made a lot of good friends on this Board, and hope to make many more as time goes by! I try hard not to post anything that might offend anyone, so if I inadvertently say/write something and it comes out wrong, please accept my apologies! Well, now that I have ventilated a bit, I have some questions!
    ########
Question #1: What does it mean when Alex talks about "breezing a horse"?
    ########
Question #2 is for Cheryl No Horse Slaughter. Cheryl, can you please explain the meaning of the lyrics for the Dixie Chicks tune titled "Voice Inside My Head" on your site? I printed them and read them, but am not sure what message the singer is trying to convey. Thanks!
P.S. I really do like your site, and enjoy the pictures, slide shows and thoughtful messages you have put on it. Keep up the great job!
    ########
Well, gotta run now! It will be interesting to see where this posting will end up in the sequence of things on this Board!
    ########
By the way, when Michael and Peter leave, who's gonna post the Daily Barbaro Reports now!?!?!?

    Hello Barbaro,

    Another day done.

Never lose the essence of you Barbaro. I admire and respect everything about you. You have always lead by example and you inspire me.

But, it's time to say goodnight to your family, friends and Fans. And it sounds like it was time to say "so long" to Peter and Michael today. I know you'll miss them but family and friends will continue their visits and Peter and Michael will be back. It's not Goodbye.

Please grab your blanket and cuddle up Honey. There's a chill in the air tonight... While your fast asleep, the healing will continue. Tomorrow, may strength carry you through your day. Dream only sweet dreams Honey.

Feel the warmth of the love surrounding you. I'll be here to check the updates tomorrow morning. I'll always be here. Now close your eyes and start on those dreams. I love you so much. XXOO

Laura S.-That Dixie Chick song sounds like a young girl who gave up a child for adoption, or chose the alternative-termination. It is a very sad deep song of loss.I have the cd, and that is most likely the best song on it.

Thanks for noticing that!! That is one of the sites I have found and added to my Ohio Rescue database. I am working on my site to add all the Ohio Rescues for easy reference. I just want to make sure they are on the up and up, and care about the horses, we all know there are ones that call themselves "rescues" and are not true ones..

I took mom to hospital today for some tests, tomorrow I take her to the dr's for results and see if they are going to put her in the hospital or Transitional Care unit for more agressive treatment. this stuff she has just has grabbed her good and worn her down ..

as for me.. another story for another day, my focus is on my mother at the moment. but the good ole paper pushers who control insurance for Ohio has STOPPED my PT for my shoulder for a month.. SUCKS.. they try to call this "managed care" BS..

I have not been on much but I am sure you all can understand! Mostly in the evenings when she goes to bed and a couple times during the day. My mother is everything to me, and I will and must take care of her first, then me..

So say a quick prayer tonight that she won't have to be admitted tomorrow. and that she will get better soon. all is wearing me down too..

Thanks again for seeing that site!! I love that Poem..

Here it is again for those that might have missed it (I AM PROUD I learned how to link.. THANK YOU jock4hire!

I faxed the Senators and called Senator Reid's office, couldn't get through with the fax, the intern that answered the phone was very polite and nice and said he would give my message to the Senator,
Everyone, just focus on our mission (not the bickering)to save the horses from slaughter once and for all, keep calling and emailing and faxing the Senators and praying for Barbaro to heal his hoof and recover. We are all doing such a wonderful job to get our voices heard for the horses that have no voice...you all are magnificent and horse warriors! Horse Warriors for Barbaro! Pray for Alex and Eduardo and all those who take care of Barbaro, and the Jacksons.
Also pray for Cahill, Bdude, Zeke, DiAnne and Bobby,Linda H,Felix, Fondmort, Brother Derek and all those horses that have recieved their fate today and those who will continue to recieve their awful fate if we don't all stay together and focus on S1915. Don't break the circle, keep the circle together so that we can accomplish this. Have a great night everyone, God Bless all of you and your kind hearts and souls..

Bobby, sweet Velvet Nose, time to tuck you in. You had to say "Aloha" today to your beloved Peter. Not goodbye, but Aloha. He'll be back. Meanwhile, you have countless friends who love you dearly, many with visiting privileges. You will not want for companionship, love, a good grooming, snacks, and skritches.

So, sleep well tonight and heal. Grow that hoof and dream of a united FOB fanbase, and safe horses everywhere with loving forever homes. Be careful getting up and down, and no clowning. Make sure your nurses give you a collection of Sharpies so you can start marking off days on the calendar till you go home, and till your Peter and your Michael are with you again. And remember--tomorrow Mom will bring more fresh-cut Lael grass!

Good night, Barbaro Nation! Here's to peace and love and understanding (with thanks to Elvis Costello).

PS--Felix just ate another very healthy portion of Friskies. I never thought I'd cry because my cat ate. He also did something ill-advised: decided he'd been on my shoulder long enough and jumped down to the floor. Good thing I was sitting. But, he landed with a decent dismount.

I know that Barbaro and all his Fans are fast asleep and most likely I am talking to myself...nothing new at this hour being a night shift worker. I just saw the video of the Japan Cup, thank-you Alex, and what an outstanding race for both Deep Impact and my beloved Ouija Board. They both trailed during most of the race and then out of no where, as where most great champions come from, they were there blasting to the finish. Deep Impact certainly was the better horse but that gorgeous girl Ouija Board showed the boys. I think that Lord Derby's decision to run her again on the 10 th may be too soon, I don't know why he feels that he must push her so at the end of her career. I will ask everyone to light candles and say prayers for her safety, and all the horses of course, when her day comes. And Showing Up must make the Jacksons very proud, congratulations to a great win for some very fine horse people indeed. Barbaro is proud of his former stable mate I'm sure. Now Barbaro, you stay tough, nippy, and full of yourself while Michael and Peter are away. My heart is a bit heavy wondering how we will stay connected to your daily progress but we all know that all is as well, and even better than could have been expected for you. I know you are surrounded by loving, attentive people and momma Jackson is just down the road. I hope she grooms you and whispers loving words to you. I love you Champ...you are in my thoughts and prayers every single day and night.

I agree with your comments on the Japan Cup and especially Ouija Board. What an honor to be able to watch her, and in fact it is the first time I have watched Deep Impact, too... Both extremely awesome.

Another thing this TWR site has done for me - I have to admit I never thought I would be watching horse races in Japanese!!! How amazing is that...

In times of change emotions seem to run high. I am not the only one who feels a loss right now, the way I always do when family leaves for distant places and I know I will not see them again for a while. I always grieve privately, acknowledging the source of the emotion, but also reminding myself that the adjustment is part of life's continuing cycle.

I think we are all a little emotional with the change in Barbaro's daily schedule and visitors, the change in communications, the loss of Michael and Peter to whom we feel so close on a daily basis. We worry that Barbaro will grieve, as well, when part of his family takes leave for the southland.

Let's all give each other a hug, give Barbaro our prayers and nightly scritches and butterfly kisses, surround him with the continuing warmth of the love we all have for him to shelter him from this temporary loss. And Alex, too, for that matter - he will be missing these friends with whom he has established such a close communication for the cause of Barbaro.

And then let's put all this nervous energy into the horse slaughter bill - this is not just a leisure pastime, this is a serious cause with serious implications for many lives. There is not much time left this year, and we may or may not be successful. But giving up now, because we were all at sixes and sevens, losing our base of security because Michael and Peter are going south for the winter, would be something we would all deeply regret.

We need all the help we can get. We can't afford to lose a single committed individual to this cause. And most of us can ill afford to lose a friend.

Believe in Barbaro, the Jacksons do. And they also Believe in You.
