Barbaro Updates: 144

updates are now here.

Update 1111: Maybe not today for Russell Baze ? Through race 7 he has been blanked.

Kathy left this message in the comments (timestamp 11:31 pm):

Thank you for the Pretzels,
Thank you for the homemade yummy candy,
Thank you for the delicious cakes and brownies today!!!
What a wonderful treat for all the staff at New Bolton!
Happy Holidays!!!!!!
Thank you for all the nice baskets and bags for Barbaro and all the animals at New Bolton Center

I am guessing (actually I know) gifts arrived today for the staff at New Bolton. Kathy Anderson was unable to visit Barbaro today.

Update 1110: This is cool: Barbaro as an SI Sportman of the Year candidate, and this is not so cool: Kieren Fallon in further trouble.

Update 1109: This morning was very foggy, and almost muggy. Seven sets. For my last set I took another "first time starter" to the track ... Gator Nation's two year old half sister. She was very well behaved doing one turn of the track. The synthetic track, which I had heard was to open today, is now scheduled to open tomorrow at 6:30 am. This opening I guess may be dependant on a noon inspection by Michael Dickinson.

Kathy Anderson said she might be going over to visit Barbaro later today. If I can, I will try to catch up with Kathy later to see if she was able to visit.

Update 1108: Another comfortable night last night for Barbaro (tuesday night). I heard from Mr. Jackson, who had heard from Dr. Richardson. The Jackson's also visited last evening, as usual, and Barbaro was comfortable.
update 9:30 am, wednesday, november 29

Update 1107: Russell Baze is three wins from setting an all-time record for number of wins by a jockey. Here is a transcript of a chat Russell had with Bloodhorse yesterday. It includes the following excerpt:

Russell, first of all I'd like to say you are a great jockey. You've ridden many winners obviously. Who is the best horse you have ever ridden?
Baze: I've been on a lot of really great horses. Lost in the Fog was the one who did the most outstanding things for me.

Fair Hill has a runner in a million dollar race on friday: Officer Rocket, Xchanger to meet in $1-million Delta Jackpot. Good luck to Xchanger!

Here are some more pictures of Showing Up at Hollywood Park.

Again, the Barbaro update will be after training hours. Keep calling.

Thank you Alex for posting more pix and look at the big smile on Mrs. Jackson's face and how proud she is of her horse Showing Up! Her big grin says it all. How nice to see that.

NBC's update was great. Your continued progress is nothing short of amazing. Keep up that excellent attitude and appetite. Take good care of yours legs. Grow hoof grow. Lets light those candles.

Good Wednesday morning Alex, Bobby (BIG BOSS HOSS) and fellow fans,

Thanks Alex for the Showing up photos. It's so nice to see the Jacksons have another big winner.

Please remember to call the Senators again today. I've already called them all and left messages. Then like every other day, I call them all again on the way home from work and actually talk to the aides. It really makes the ride home more bearable. In fact, I'm wondering what I'll do when S.1915 passes. I'll have to find another cause to call them about.

Please remember Barb M. (from Florida) in your prayers. Her beloved dog Nala has bone cancer and is scheduled to have her leg amputated on Friday. Her TB, Over Enough, has serious health issues too and I believe is being seen by a Vet who is a friend of Dr. R. today. They're going through a really tough time right now. Barb, like the rest of us, has been tireless in her fight for S.1915.

Have a great day all!!

Proud to be a fan of Barbaro

Morning Barbaro. Great NBC report on you yesterday. Keep up the good work. We love you. Loved the pictures today Alex Thanks

Hiya, Bobbey! Are you sleeping in today, sweet prince? May your day be sun-kissed, with quality grazing time. Is Ms. Mocha the Cow still pining over you? Hugs, pets, & "scratches" from your pals in CT - Robyn, Brent, & Nikita

#### Thanks, Alex, for the awesome pictures of Showing Up? Mrs. J. looks so pleased with her horse. Is it my imagination, or does Showing Up have a resemblance to Barbaro?

To Barb M.: Thinking of you as you address Nala and Our Enough's health issues. ####

sifting time.-
-dear alex, and FOB,--lost in the fog;s dear mr aleo, vibrant and giving as always,..great reaching to him from FOB,J.
thank you for some great articles posted.
very grateful..
.the joy of seeing Mrs jackson walking in the winner's circle with the beautiful SHOWING UP..
t he joy of seeing edgar prado on elegant creaure, price tag.
.both huge souls that are a part of BARBARO;S rain of blessings...
may this quick note reach your doorsteps in the most simple of ways.
may the presence of the divine light spread through out the land ..a quilt of towns and cities spread before the eye.
.just waking up .
in a stable, in a corner of our land.
.with the can do heart, spirit of 1776,
as i often refer to describing NBC and the team assembled to lead this great champion to recovery,..
this corner of rolling hills.
.holds the intentions and collective breath and muscle of thousands,
, of sifting time..
in my dreams ,i feel BARBARO is luminous...no nonsense, straight to the point
,the heart..
.he never liked those carpet of roses on his back..only the wind to dry his sweat
he did his job wiht the passion of his genes and rippling power
. .his eyes ,always vibrant and changing.
.percieving every detail of every moment--full of imagnation..the most fragile of 21st century challenges..iamgination---.
TO HEAR that
he is growing stronger each day is a miracle flowering--delicatelike a pusling spder's web in the sunlight..fresh with morning dew--makes me want to be like wilbur the pig and run in the mud..and grass wiht joy.
.squeel, sqeel..
i consider this time extremely fragile..
for every morning, he gets up from his sleeping in the fresh hay, onto ground that he needs --never knows will it hold?he tries

. ..that faith may be what it is all ab out..,i whisper to myself..
he has to get back on all fours EVENLY.
.thtis is not a given.
.there is no gurantee..
something pours out of him to move forward..gingerly at first..but willingly he steps on to ground .that shifts.
SAND AND FOG
.his team ,his beloved owners
lsitening ,stretching, putting their own fears aside.
.to focus on THIS MOMENT ,THE ONLY MOMENT HE HAS
,WE HAVE
THIS MOMENT.
like so much of life ,until we get some kind of death sentence, we kind of get in the fast lane and pass this by..
i have only this moment before me..
barbaro understands this
based on his behavior
..from his birth to now and his listening skills which if we had just a spec of
we might not be killing each other on any front in this world.
.he gets it and i better get it ..24-7 .
.i never need to see him ..it woul be stunning to see him but in the end
.it is this huge blanket of light
streaming arcs of violets ,reds ,blues ,purples
which surround barbaro
and takes in the
curling and weaving vibrations of care and love from all about him
..INVISIBLE THOUSANDS , WE FORM A CARPET OF ROSES for his feet..all four evenly spread on the leaves and grass..
i head the call
..a once in lifetime horse
a messenger
.i head the call
as he comes tearing around the corner that magnificent day ,
right out of the pack .
.an elgant deep vibrant wire of a man LISTENING TO HIS HORSE..ALL THE WAY..NOT FORCING ONE SECOND..BREATHING WIHT HIM as now--.their hearts as one.
.i will walk a million miles for you BARBARO and the right of your owners to hold you as they wish
dear.BARBARO
.i will guard that
,i will dance for that
i will sing that heart song
.today
, may you be in comfort .
.may you craze
,may you commune .
.may you not miss peter and michael,
.may you eat that grass
,may your heart be strong and calm, knowing we are all breathing ,carrying and stretching for you
.nothing is given, no guarantess .
glorious for what we have now..
it is worth all the goodnees fob and thuosands across the world making gold ..for you ..for the protection of love ..may it surround you today ,every second
.. to save your horse nation.
..to earn it.
the mpoment--
to feel the glow ..
. the bucket of grass comes every day..the hands flutter about you with regularity and a keeness of perception , that belies time.
IVIOLET AND RED LUMINOSITY
in the light and in the dark
i hear you ,all..

what can we do to make sure the sportswriters voting for the eclipse award gives it to barbaro. we also need to make sure that the jacksons lael stables recieve the eclipse for breeders who has ever bred horses to compare to george washington, showing up,and barbaro. in one year. barbaro deserves the award because his time in the derby was 2:01:36 and everyone who watched the race knows he was in a hand gallop.bernardini has 2 loses and 2 of his grade 1's were against noone if only 4 horses run a race should lose its grade 1 status. checkout invasors time in the classic it was 2:02 and hes an older horse. barbaros number were accomplished in 5 months bernardini has had the whole year and only has 2 more wins barbaro is the best horse we have seen in a long time decades please give him and his connections the credit they are do.

New Year's Resolutions for Horses

. I will NOT roll in streams or try to roll when my human is on my back.
. I will NOT leap over large nonexistent obstacles when the whim strikes.
. I will NOT walk faster on the way home than I did on the way out.
. I promise NOT to swish my tail while my human is cleaning my back feet.
. I promise also NOT to choose that particular time to answer nature's call.
. I will NOT bite my farrier's butt just because it is there.
. I will NOT confuse my human's blond hair for really soft hay.
. I will NOT wipe green slime down the back of my human's white shirt.
. I will NOT blow my nose on my human.
. I CAN walk and potty at the same time. I can, I can, I can.
. I will NOT stop and potty every time I pass the same spot in the arena.
. I will NOT leave when my rider falls off.
. My stall is NOT my litter box. When I have free access to my paddock, I will NOT go back inside to potty.
. I will NOT try to mooch goodies off every human within a 1 mile radius.
. I will NOT lay totally flat out in my stall with my eyes glazed over and my legs straight out and pretend I can't hear my human frantically screaming "Are you asleep?"
. I will NOT chase the ponies into the electric fence to see if it is on.
. I will promise NEVER to dump the wheelbarrow of manure over while a human is mucking my stall.
. I will NOT grab my lead rope in my mouth and attempt to lead myself.
. I will NOT have an attitude problem. I won't, I won't, I won't!
. I will NOT pull my new shoes off the very next day just to prove that I can.
. I am neither a beaver nor a carpenter. I promise I won't eat or remodel the barn or the new fences.
. I WILL forgive my human for the very bad haircut, even though I look like a freak.
. I accept that not every carrot is for me.
. I will NOT do the Arab Teleport Trick when a bad/naughty/awful Horsasaurus Monster breathes at me.
. I will NOT jump in the air and turn 180 degrees every time I see a bicycle.
. I will understand that bicycles are NOT carnivorous.
. I will NOT shy at familiar objects just for fun.
. I will NOT bite the butt of the horse in front of me during the trail ride just to say "Hi".
. I WILL put my ears forward and cooperate when it comes to photos.

I am so glad that the Jacksons have Showing Up now. Nothing can replace Barbaro, but a great horse is so enjoyable and exciting, and if anyone ever deserved good fortune , it is the Jacksons. How great is it that G. Jackson is callling Alex to let us know Barbaro's condition? I can hardly believe our good fortune, but I know some of it is due to Alex, and we owe him so much .

Good morning Barbaro, I have prayed that you will accept MMs and Peter's absences in your normal good grace. I hope you won't grieve for them. I am praying for your continued optimistic state of mind as Mary asked us to do. Blessings to you our sweet boy.

Good morning, All! I've been wanting to know how The Hoof has grown -- finally read on one of the links yesterday that it has grown one-third of the way! I hope that's correct. Can't vouch for the source. But it sounds excellent, and Dr Dean says the Big Boss walks comfortably on it. May be slow going, but it is going! Another marvel to me - I'm one of the many who never knew a horse can grow a new hoof! MLE

HOT FLASH....OOPPPSSS I MEAN NEW FLASH.... LOL
I've exchanged emails with Eddie Kilroy about a collaborative effort scheduled for Monday 12/4, the day the Senators return. I've asked him to rally his pro S1915 listeners over the next few days and we'll have our own Nat'l Call In Day. Of course, for us every day is a call in day but if we can increase the numbers Monday it will remind the Senators that we have not forgotten the mission. The strategy remains the same unless otherwise directed by Shelley & Debra. I told Eddie I would provide names & numbers of our targeted Senators. SO PLEASE TREAT MONDAY AS A DAY TO CALL IN DEBTS, BEG, PLEAD, TRADE FAVORS, whatever it takes so we can tally some really big numbers.
Thanks for your help.

###

Chris Byers (I hope you see this)and everyone else,

A couple of months ago, you brought a concern to the board regarding Cubby, a tame, penned bear that was shot by Troy Gentry (Montgomery Gentry, country music duo). Gentry claimed the hunt as a wild animal kill. This took place in Minnesota.

It went to court earlier this week. Troy Gentry pleaded GUILTY and was ordered to pay $15,000....
$15,000 is nothing to someone like him! I'm so upset and disappointed.

Hello Alex and all FOB's,

Reposting the National Day of the Horse Senate resolution from 2004 for those who didn't get to read it yesterday and a link to a PDF for faxing to the Senators - GO Cathy Potter!!

NATIONAL DAY OF THE HORSE-

"RESOLUTION

Designating December 13, 2004, as National Day of the Horse and encouraging the people of the United States to be mindful of the contribution of horses to the economy, history, and character of the United States.

Whereas the horse is a living link to the history of the United States;

Whereas without horses, the economy, history, and character of the United States would be profoundly different;

Whereas horses continue to permeate the society of the United States, as witnessed on movie screens, on open land, and in our own backyards;

Whereas horses are a vital part of the collective experience of the United States and deserve protection and compassion;

Whereas because of increasing pressure from modern society, wild and domestic horses rely on humans for adequate food, water, and shelter; and

Whereas the Congressional Horse Caucus estimates that the horse industry contributes much more than $100,000,000,000 each year to the economy of the United States: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Senate--
(1) designates December 13, 2004, as `National Day of the Horse', in recognition of the importance of horses to the security, economy, recreation, and heritage of the United States;
(2) encourages all people of the United States to be mindful of the contribution of horses to the economy, history, and character of the United States; and
(3) requests that the President issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States and interested organizations to observe the day with appropriate programs and activities."

###Morning Joan
Is he still alive?...lol

Posted by: D'Anne in NC at November 29, 2006 2:09 PM

I just realized what a huge milestone we passed the other day with Barbaro. There have been so many tests that Bobby had to pass to get to the next level (get through surgery, wake up out of surgery, all the way to being able to control pain from laminitis). One of the most crucial milestones was how he would do without the cast. Could he stand on that leg? Was the leg viable and could he use it as a normal horse would? This was something that seemed so far in the future in May, it was hard to even picture. The idea that he might not be able to use the right hind was a nebulous threat.

But now we're here, and he made it! He's in a cotton bandage, and that's all. He made it.

If there had been no laminitis, it's quite possible that right now he would be looking in his little black book for possible dates in 2007 or 2008.

Unfortunately, we (all of us!) have to concentrate on that last, big hurdle: the left hind hoof.

Barbaro has passed every test with flying colors. His attitude has remained incredibly strong. I'm sure his outlook got a big shot in the arm (leg?) when he got to go outside to graze. This horse defines optimism.

Based on past experience, he'll clear this hurdle too. It will take a long time, but I believe the left hoof will be viable.

Grow, hoof, grow!

Morning, Barbaro! Time to rise and shine and get outside while the weather is still mild and springlike...We have one more day before winter sweeps into town, so maybe you have a little more time. Enjoy your treats, eats and visitors today, we are so proud of you, just a little cotton bandage on your leg, no more casts, no more splints, thank God.

Here is my message I emailed to Frist after I copied the National Horse Day Resolution. Everyone get angry and keep calling--BUT BE POLITE! Betty from TN

THE SENATE CAN PASS THIS WONDERFUL RESOLUTION HONORING OUR HORSES, BUT IT TAKES YEARS AND YEARS TO PASS AN ANTI-HORSE SLAUGHTER BILL! WHEN WE NO LONGER NEED OR WANT OUR HORSES, WE CAN HAVE THEM SLAUGHTERED!! I AM ASHAMED OF THE SENATE'S HYPOCRISY. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT HORSE SLAUGHTER STOPPED NOW. WHY WON'T YOU LISTEN TO US? DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO SCHEDULE THIS BILL BEFORE ADJOURNMENT SO WE DO NOT HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN! MAKE NO MISTAKE--WE WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR OUR HORSES UNTIL THIS BILL IS PASSED. Betty and Ken Eaton--Proud Fans of Barbaro and in the majority who want horse slaughter stopped! PLEASE LISTEN TO US!!

Hi Laurie H. and ALL:
I saw the result of the Troy Gentry "trial" as well. Just one more example of the disrespect for God's living creatures. The people on this site have done so much for the horses and hopefully the passionate outcry will breach the borders of cruelty to all our fur friends. In my correspondence to senators and their aides I voice my belief that for America to take the next step in our moral progression we have to pass legislation such as S.1915. Horse slaughtering is not America. It's been a hidden industry, kept out of the public eye. But now that the American public knows they have overwhelmingly supported a ban on every single poll taken on the issue. What makes me mad is the fact the horse slaughtering industry is run by so few. The vast, vast majority are not in control. And the only way to change the landscape is for people like FOBs to educate the public. The people here are passionate. And passion, used properly, is a lethal weapon. Many aides have said this issue is one of passion. I agree with them, but then I put "passion" in the proper perspective. It's not passion such as "poor little horsies." To us, sure that's part of it. But I explain it's passion rooted in the fact that as a species we are capable of so much more than the inhumane treatment that is so well documented. It is passionate in that laws are being broken: horse theft, illegal transportation, etc. Why have laws if they are not enforced? It is passionate for fellow human beings, overseas, that are eating "meat" not fit for human consumption as horses have been treated with chemicals that are dangerous to humans. So if an aide wants to talk about S.1915 as a sensitive, passionate issue, you bet. But put the "passionate" in perspective. I went to Senator Coleman's office 2 weeks ago. The aide said this is an emotional issue. And I point blank said yes, but not in the way you possibly percieve it to be. I gave a dialogue similar to what I wrote here. She did not know about toxins, etc. The result: there is more than the "poor animals" reason why we are against slaughter. The bottom line: the whole industry is wrong, top to bottom: inhumane treatment, broken laws, lack of respect for animals and their owners, dirty politics, etc. And the Troy Gentry's of the world need to land their rear ends in jail for a long, long time because he took an innocent life. A life, according to law, worth about $15,000.00? I would love to ask God someday how much a life is worth.
We have a short period of time to get S.1915 passed. What this group has accomplished in such a short period of time is amazing. We keep this up and the power of passion will overcome the weakness of greed and heartlessness.
Daryl!

Bobbie B,

Thanks for the nice bday wish. Very sweet of you to think of Zeke and I. BTW, Zeke is doing great! Last nite, I was sitting on the sofa, and he came from behind, and jumped over the top, from a standing position, and fell right into my lap...all 130lbs of him. He is such a mommys boy, and a hell of a jumper. Only thing, is he's not supposed to be doing those things. I need to get him a bridle, I think. He's such a horse.

Have a great day everyone, and thanks a million for all the hard work you/we do for the horses. Its a priveldge to be here.

Good morning all;
Yesterday I posted we have 33 senators as co-sponsors. Sen. Mark Dayton (Mn) is also a co-sponsor but a clerical error has kept him off the list. Next Monday he will be listed bringing us to 34. We need more: the aides have said there is power in co-sponsorship. Sen. Norm Coleman (Mn) is a good person. He is waiting for the wording of S.1915. He has voted in favor of horse protection legislation in the past. Please call his office and let's push him over the edge. Remind the aide his peer (Sen. Dayton) is a co-sponsor and to please support and sign Senator Landrieu's letter to Sen. Frist. Thanks everyone!
Senator Norm Coleman (Mn) - 202-224-5641
Also ask for Dave Hickey, the senator's aide who is the person in charge of research on S.1915! Leave a VM if you have to!

MESSAGE FROM DEBRAWI AND SHELLEYA.......

We just wanted to assure you that, according to our contacts this morning, S1915 is still very much a priority. We have been asked to stick to the same strategy for now. We've also been told that they are many meetings taking place which COULD result in new instructions to us. Of course we will pass on any new information immediately.

As of now, our calls must continue to the people on Socorro's list of 3:45PM. We can still make a difference as we enter the homestretch.

It's important to remember that these meetings take place behind closed doors and we are not usually aware of the progress being made. Just KNOW that they are diligent about continuing efforts to get this bill passed. Needless to say, the next few days are crucial!!!!

Will keep you posted as new information emerges.

Good morning, Master Barbaro! I hope it is as beautiful at NBC as it is here in Virginia. That would mean you get to go out to graze today! I'm sure that is your favorite thing!

I know you're going to miss Michael and Peter; they will miss you too. They love you so much! You'll have to rely on your Mom and Dad and your Dr. R. I wish I could take you out for a pick of grass, as Alex says. I'd let you eat all day!

Bobby, the NBC report was so good, yesterday! Dr. R seems very upbeat lately about your progress. Keep it up, boy. We're all so proud of you!!!!!!!!!!

Yea!!! for Russell Baze! He is so deserving, a great rider and so good for the sport!

Barbaro or Dr. Richardson for Sportsman of the Year? That's tough; definately a tie. But, what about the Jacksons? They should be part of that tie, too. And Michael and Peter! Gosh, there are so many people who are responsible for Bobby's unbelievable progress, it's hard to choose!?! You are so loved, Big B.!!

FANS OF BARBARO, if you need help with your Senators, please post so that we can unite and get those calls in to your Senators.

Please keep the Senators' lines busy.

Yesterday, we were asked to contact Senators Byrd and Cochran, don't know the reason, but PLEASE continue to contact them.

"I am still calling senators every day, the 2 full page ad in the daily racing form urged people to call senators Byrd and Thad Cochran. I don't know why but I have been including them in my daily calls. Yesterday the girl in Cochran's office said they have received so many calls she is instructed to tally every day on S1915 and let the senator know, the number I call is 202 224-5054. Don't know what his deal is because he voted against us last time but figure it can't hurt to keep calling him.

I read the morning news and just weep at man's inhumanity to animals, even on the individual level. To throw away a 6 year old horse because he doesn't jump well enough - and to not want anyone else to have him, either! Who IS this person - !!??!!

We can weep for thousands daily, but just one, two or three bring it home, right here and right now.

Our disposable society...

Senator Cochran's aide told ME what bill I was calling about before I could even say it. We both laughed and I asked if she was getting a lot of calls. She said they have received "literally hundreds of calls". I asked if the calls were for or against S1915 and she said "they are all siding with you, they're ALL been for S1915". She then told me that they are keeping the tally and forwarding it to the senator.

Little bit of Jack Russell adventure/humor for the day. I took my two girls for their Christmas grooming today and we just aren't car travelers.
Lots of continuous movement, panting, both girls together weigh about 40 lbs.so the seat belt alarm keeps beeping. I'm driving on a 4 land interstate cut down to 2 lanes, gobs of traffic and noise and Gracie steps on the auto-window control inadvertently and the window goes all the way down. Wind blowing in, I am waiting for two Jacks to jump out of the open window onto to the highway and splatter. But no, they got scared by the noise and wind, and laid down on the floor of the car. God, St. Francis, ST. Christopher and St. Jack must all have been watching over us this morning!! I can't wait to go back and pick them up. Travels with terriers, YIKE!!!!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!

Make those calls, send those faxes and emails!!!

I saw your post and thank you. Troy Gentry is a real jerk. I don't care how much money he has.
He will NEVER have any class.

I hope you see this post Chris.

Could anyone point me in the right direction regarding a list of the members of the Commerce committee of which Sen Stevens is chairman.....I talked with several different aides this morn and getting this bill (S1915) out of committee is the BIG step at this point. I wanted to call each of the committee members and urge them to get this to Sen Frist immediately so it can be voted on. They are saying to me that they are receiving lots of calls re this bill, but no one can say if or when it will get to Frist.

Thanks for all you are doing to help get this bill passed. I am becomming a basket case and if this doesnt happen soon, I feel awful about it. Please light candles, pray and do keep calling and faxing the senators.

Posted by: Designgirl7 at November 29, 2006 5:30 PM

cathy......I am not sure....seems to be the wording of the bill itself. I was told that some bills only having a few co sponsors will get passed and others with a lot of co sponsors dont. This whole system of politics needs to be fixed, IMO. Sen Kyl of Az is not a co sponsor nor has he signed on to Sen Landrius letter to Frist. But I am told he will vote yes if asked to vote. My feeling right now is that the pressure has to be put on the 22 committee members to get it to Frist so it can be brought before the entire senate. I was also told that Sen Burns is a big stumbling block to this whole process and it may only take one to keep this from getting out of that committee. I really dont know what else to do except to call these commmitte memebers and try to get them to do this ASAP.

BTW, I always enjoy reading your posts. Tnx. Elie

I only know that there are many Tennessee Walker Horse people, and I asked the lady in Sen. Frist's office if they were calling, and she said they were calling and faxing alot, and that they oppose the bill. I know that they are really upset because the USDA is cracking down on all the soring going on in the industry. Other than that, I have no idea why they are opposed to the bill. Maybe they are like the other horse associations that oppose the bill.

Happy Birthday Therese!

Update on Alexis:

Bad news from the vet. Alexis' creatnine is over 10 and her BUN is 325. Basically, at this time she doesn't have enough kidney function to survive. She's still drinking water and is showing some interest in food, so I'm taking her back to the vet tomorrow for more sub q fluids and high dose anti-biotics. There is a slight possibility that if we can flush the toxins out, she may have more time.

As much as I don't want to lose her, I have to accept that the day is coming and I'll have to send her over the bridge. It's so hard, but I have to do what is right for her regardless of what is 'right' for me. The next few days will be spent hand feeding her and telling her how much I care.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and healing energy. My brothers and my dad don't seem to get it. They know how important my animals are to me but haven't even bothered to call to see how I'm doing or to ask about Alexis. It really angers me that people are so fast to turn their backs on people who only want to know that someone cares. Thank God for my cyber family. It's comforting to know that there are people in this world who really do care.

Bless all of you.

Joyce Moore

Posted by: Joyce Moore at November 29, 2006 5:50 PM

Chris....tnx so much for the link. I got all the names and of course Sen Burns is on that committee.
Sen Landreiu is not on that list. That seems to be a problem from my understanding of how this is all supposed to work.

At any rate, I will call all those on the list that are not already co sponsors and urge them to get the bill to Frist.

I also understand that this bill cannot be added to the appropriations agriculture bill as it already has one amendment to it and that is all you can get on a bill. Our bill is probably going to have to fly alone or maybe they can find another bill to attach it to.

It all seems very confusing, but keep on calling and at least get the numbers up. Surely, they can tell from all the calls how much this means to all of us needless to say to all the horses.

Good Luck to us all.

Tnx again to all. Ellie AZ

Sen Burns is a big stumbling block to this whole process. You got that right!
# ellie
If it weren’t for Burns this bill would have passed in the senate in 2004. He added an amendment to the bill. Which only stopped the Government from paying for the inspections of horsemeat. Now the slaughterhouses have to pay for the inspections. The senators call it the Burns Amendment.
Thank God he is out of a job next year. You know he sends the Wild horses in his state to slaughter, and you try to tell me he is not making money on that!! He calls it cueling
I don’t know how he sleeps at night!
Now I am mad, think I will call Katie

Posted by: Debbie L.A. at November 29, 2006 5:56 PM

Ellie

Senator Landrieu is not a member of that committee. That's why her name isn't there.

If you refer to Socorro's post of 3:45, you will get the information on Senator Landrieu and the others to call who are not on that committee.

We're not sure yet how they are going to get this bill out. That's the strategy they are figuring out this week.

Posted by: ShelleyA at November 29, 2006 5:57 PM

Question for Alex or anyone who may know:

If Barbaro's hoof is growing irregularly, are the "high" spots filed off to make it more uniform or are they waiting until the entire hoof is longer before trimming it? Also, how long will it take the "spot" underneath to heal?

Perhaps this has been asked before and I missed it but I have been wondering about this for a long time.

Snowy, cold day in Colorado (love it!)and a very good day to put up Christmas decorations. Please remember to check the threads on the forum for the Christmas parties.

Barbaro, sweetie, you are rid of your splint! You are a darling and a wonder. Keep up the healing and we will take care of S1915 and all the rest.

Thank you Alex for putting up with us and keeping us informed. Bless all the staff at NBC, the Jacksons, Tim, Michael and all who need prayers, especially the defenseless animals.

Have a good day, everyone.

Or at least the ones that are not co sponsors of the bill. Once it gets out of committe, then call all the others who will then have a chance to vote our way. Am I not getting it all yet????? Hey Guys!

As we all know, all of our efforts to pass S1915 are culminating in these last days of 2006...

I WOULD LIKE TO ISSUE A CHALLENGE TO ALL FOBs to use the contact information on SOCORRO'S POST OF 3:45 PM and GET IN TOUCH WITH THESE SENATORS...

THIS IS SO EXTREMELY IMPORTANT...We have come so far and worked so hard. NO ONE HAS WORKED HARDER OR BEEN MORE FOCUSED THAN THE MEMBERS OF THIS BOARD. Each and every one of you have made it a point to see that this legislation is passed. That is something we all can be proud of.

So I am ISSUING THIS CHALLENGE...THAT WE SPEND EVERY LAST WANING BREATH OF THIS YEAR IN DOING ALL THAT WE CAN TO LET THEM KNOW WE ARE HERE AND WE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL S1915 BECOMES THE LAW OF THE LAND.

EVERYONE OF YOU MATTERS...through each FAX, each EMAIL,each PHONE CALL...one step at a time... thus building a coalition of those who will not stop UNTIL THE SLAUGHTER ENDS...

LET US REDOUBLE OUR EFFORTS AND ANSWER THIS CHALLENGE TO DRIVE OUR POINT HOME...S1915 MUST PASS...

LET US NOT LOOK BACK AND WONDER IF WE LEFT OUT A SINGLE CALL OR FAX OR EMAIL...

WE CAN DO THIS!

"The Petition Senate to vote S1915" under slaughter issues on the chat forum has a petition to sign online, please do, this will go to Frist I believe. There are only over 50 signatures so far, it needs MORE signatures, please sign it if you get a chance today, thanks all of you, we will be heard!

Deborah,

Considering that it's been over four months since the resection, they are probably able to file his heels to keep them even. Until the rest of the hoof wall gets to ground level there won't be any reason to trim as that part of the wall isn't bearing any weight yet. It's hard to say what exactly is going on without having NBC post pictures of the hoof, but my guess is that by now the sole has grown substantially.

Even after the wall is grown out, the quality of hoof may not be all that great initially but will get stronger over time. There are alot of newer products out that can be used to rebuild the hoof wall and support the sole and coffin bone.

Although he won't be meeting the girls next year I truly believe that he will covering mares in 2008. After all, has anyone ever heard a male say, 'not tonight honey, my foot hurts'. Show them a girl, and nothing will stop them.

The purpose of calling the people on SOCORRO'S LIST OF 3:45PM...was not explained other than to say that there is a direct correlation between those names and this bill.

Unfortunately, we were not told WHY we were to do this, but the people in charge passed this on to us. DEBRA in WI and SHELLEY are getting directions from someone.

Now, you can call anyone you want. Just be sure to include the people on this list because AS OF TODAY...they are the key. (Of course, everyone should be calling their own Senators, as well)

I understand completely...Strategies seem to change so quickly that I have trouble keeping up!

I hope this has helped...If not...just let me know if I didn't answer the heart of your questions...I will love to help!!

Good Morning Family of Barbaro!

late, huh! had to make my calls then got started on the road. Lotsa snow today!! it's really beautiful until you have to drive with people who are so scared they shouldn't leave home. Or those who have nowhere to go and all day to get there.

Thanks to Alex for the updates. Always good to hear news from you. Be a good boy, Barbaro. You are our inspiration and we love you so much and think the WORLD of your mom and dad and wonderful medical staff at NBC

###

Happy Birthday Terese!! Gosh there are a lot of Sag bros and sisters! Hope your day is spectacular and this is the best year ever. Good to hear that Zeke is doing so well.

###

Happy Birthday to whomever else I may have missed. Sorry but I just kinda skimmed, will go back later and read more thoroughly. Let's all hope that this year's gift to our Sagittarius babies is the passage of S.1915

###

Saw a flash of Troy Gentry's name. Didn't read the post, but I hope I'll go back and read that he has been fined a huge sum of money and has to spend a LOT of time in the pokey, wearing black and white striped jammies with a ball and chain strapped around his ankle. And picture this....his prison guards are bears.

###
Prayers continue for all those who need them, Opie MinPin-honorarykiddeninnasoot, Felixkiddeninnasoot, Nala, Zola, I'm so sorry I forget the name of Nala's horsie brother, all the other fourlegged children who need them, all the people here who are near and dear to me who need them, all those whose loved ones need them, and for the passage of S.1915

Later, Family!

Love to all
Cheryl

Joyce,

I agree that Big B would "desire" to have a mate but whether or not his foot could take the pressure and weight is another question.

From the HSUS: Our next, and likely final, National Call-In Day for Horses is this Tuesday, Dec. 5. We must flood Senate offices with phone calls during this short window, urging them to cosponsor S. 1915 and get it to the senate floor for a vote. Mark your calendars now.

Barbaro - I'm so happy for your continued healing. And I'm incredibly grateful that your mom is kind enough to keep us posted.

Laura in OH...Hi! I am glad to hear that HSUS is having another call-in day....I swear...I am on their list to receive alerts like that and such, but it seems that I only get them AFTER the fact...Is it on their website? or is this a bulletin they sent out? Sometimes I just don't know what is up with them...The last time they sent out two separate dates for call-ins! HELP...!

Great! The HSUS scheduled another Call In Day.
Everyone.....Please don't forget I've urged Eddie Kilroy to collaborate with us for a Willie's Place/Fans Of Barbaro Call In Day on Monday. Two days in a row of a massive call in has got to get their attention.

I'm very sorry to hear the news about Alexis. I hope it helps you to know how many people here do care about you both.

You and Alexis are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Pamela - It was just sent to me as an e- mail alert. It seems like with both the HSUS and ASPCA it's a crapshoot as to whether or not I get the alerts. I'm kind of surprised the date isn't Monday when everyone gets back but it specifically says Tuesday, December 5th.

This is for Laurie H. im MN! Laurie, there is a possibility due to the financial limits set by your state's current animal cruelty laws that the fine set by the judge in the bear-shooting case was the maximum allowed. Please check into this, and if that is the case, CALL, WRITE, and/or EMAIL your voting district's state legislators and ask them to get that law changed! Yes, I think that was NOT enough for that idiot to have to pay! That guy is probably laughing all the way to his bank! Poor defenseless bear! GOOD LUCK IN YOUR RESEARCH, LAURIE!

Warmest regards to you from Laura S. in icy-cold SNOW!-homish, WA! BRRRRRRR!

Does anyone have a link to where Bobby has been nominated for Sportsperson of the year. I went to the SI website and can't find it...only a blog, and I can't find SI in Topeka. I never have been able to, for some odd reason, since Smarty Jones won the Derby I have looked and none around.
