Barbaro Updates: 145

updates are now here.

Update 1117: Russell Baze won the sixth at Bay Meadows to draw level with Pincay. Tim won the third race at Laurel with first time starter Jaunty Gale. Congratulations to Gerry Goswell.

Update 1116: Russell Baze has one winner to equal Laffitt Pincay's record. Check his progress here.

Update 1115: Horsehats have been working closely with the Jackson and Churchill Downs to create a limited edition hat with all profits to the Barbaro Fund. Here is the offer: Barbaro Fund Hat. Although the site does not mention the number of hats available, I do know it is limited.

Big plans for Showing Up highlights not only Showing Up (his plans for next year and some troubles they experienced at Hollywood Park on sunday), but also ShoBiz and Stormy Kiss (another Jackson horse scheduled to run this weekend at Aqueduct).

Update 1114: Eddie Kilroy has returned and left the following comment (timestamp: 12:28 pm)

Good Morning Barbaro and all of you. Sorry I've been absent for so long. The move from N. VA to the new ranch in Texas was long. So happy to hear the great reports on big guy. Also, I'd like to urge everyone to fight for S1915. Take a page from Barbaro, DON'T GIVE UP!!! Remember, so many thought HR503 would never get a vote. We showed them a trick, and we can do it again. We have to stay comitted and SLAM THEM SENATORS!!! I have a fire burning with my listeners, and come Monday we'll be adding more fuel. Willie, Bo Derick, and you can be the voice for all equine. I know you won't weaken. Let's KICK BUTT Monday!!! God Bless.
Eddie Kilroy, "WILLIE PLACE" XM Radio

Monday has been designated FOB call-in day.

Update 1113: Another comfortable night last night for Barbaro (wednesday night). Mrs. Jackson called, and she had just received a call from Dr. Richardson. I was heading to the track as Mrs. Jackson called, on my second set. I was on Real Lace going to the newly opened Tapeta track. Graham Motion's string were just coming off as I was going through the tunnel to the track. I asked Graham what he thought. He said it was "good". I asked his riders who were equally positive. Others I asked were also positive in the praise for the new surface. I galloped Real Lace a mile and a half on the surface and was impressed. It was nice and even, and had nice spring to it (not too much) ... like riding on a great grass surface. We will of course see how it responds to adverse weather in the next day or two (rain, rain). Michael Dickinson was at Fair Hill this morning asking trainers and riders alike for their feedback. He asked me, I responded positively and expressed my wish that dirt tracks were going to be a thing of history.

Update 1112: Going local, we have this from Delaware Online: Barbaro improving, to get special shoe. It quotes Kathy Anderson in places, including:

Anderson said she is starting to see the old Barbaro come through.

"His disposition has actually improved so much," said Anderson. "He has a lot more confidence and can walk around so much better. He is a happy horse. He was very unhappy, yet courageous, there for a while."

Going global (New Zealand) we have: Barbaro has helped many other horses. This includes quotes from this site regarding Edgar Prado's most recent visit.

The Barbaro update should be later this morning. Keep calling.

Fellow FOB - What fabulous news in this latest update!!! If you believe in "Kismet" - the strength and determination of Barbaro and the unprecedented care the Jackson's and the staff at NBC have provided are a classic example. It must be Barbaro's destiny to open up all these new doors on animal issues previously not brought to the attention of the general public. Thanks for saving this magnificent horse - M/Mrs. Jackson and Dr. Richardson for your expert care and compassion."Big B" - glad to hear your mood is improving - everyone visiting this site will feel inspired by your good news. Enjoy your new stall and new shoe for your left foot. Grow hoof, grow!!! Susan in PA.

I hope that your day includes time outdoors today. I really enjoyed reading that you'll be getting a special shoe. May it fit like a glove and help you feel even more comfortable. Good morning dearest Barbaro. You are showing us daily that perseverence pays off. I am thrilled to hear you are walking better every day and with the new shoe on the left hoof, may you be totally in the comfort zone. Nothing like a happy horse to raise everyone's spirits. Hope you get to graze some today and I'm sure treats are on the way. Grow that hoof, dear boy, grow that hoof. Butterfly kisses to you, big fella.

####
Funny, I always thought horse owners were also horse lovers. I have learned these last few months that that is not the case. The Ohio article makes this quite clear. I am speechless when I hear some of the comments from these so-called horse people. Callous, cold-hearted comes to mind. Take a look at the MO. accident horses all headed to slaughter. Who wouldn't want to gladly adopt one of them. But the horse hauler in that article would have you believe they are all old, infirm, rank and unloveable. I wonder how these people sleep at night.

####
I hope we all can keep yesterday's momentum going today. We must make the politicians hear us over the pro-slaughter people. May Sugarcreek and all other auction sites that send horses to slaughter be a thing of the past. We must make this happen.

I'm off to email and then make my calls.

Everyone have a great day!

Alex and FOB's,
Good morning. In reading about the upcoming design of a new shoe, I think this shows more groundbreaking revelations for horses in similar situations. I love Barbaro. But besides my emotional connection to him, logically it's amazing what he has created for all of us in the way we think and feel about horses. And what is in the works to help other horses. I've seen in my life how out of tragedy often amazing things occur. Barbaro is a symbol of this.

Barbaro, I hope you has another good, healing day, and as always, just a little more hoof...

Everyone have a good day. Count your blessings, some of them definitely being Barbaro, Alex, Tim, Dr. Richardson, his staff, Michael, Peter, Edgar and last but hardly in anyway least the Jacksons. What a team. They represent the finest of the finest.

Good thursday morning Alex, Bobby and fellow fans,

Thanks Alex for the great articles to read. Wendy, thank you for the link to the Ohio article. That was very disturbing. It was not balanced and I didn't like the way it ended. No opposing viewpoint.

Eddie Kilroy,

So glad to see you post again. We all missed you. You can be sure that we're all doing everything we can to push the Senators to pass S.1915.

I have one concern - perhaps someone might know more about this than I do. How can we be sure the aides are accurately reporting the numbers to the Senators? I asked one aide yesterday how they keep tabs of callers and he said they use the computer to do it. Does anyone have more information about that?

To all FsOB who have sick or injured humans or pets, my prayers for you!

Have a great day all and let's do what Alex suggests and call, call, call. I have already left messages on all the Senator's voice mail and will call them all again later and talk to the aides.

I hope it's like you say...that dirt tracks will be a thing of the past, and that these new tracks will prove to be safer for both riders and horses. What wonderful improvements for all.

It was his notion entirely to start gathering and reporting, and the way he has managed and expanded the site is masterful!! Good Morning, FOB's!

Alex, am glad to read the positive feedback on the new track surface. I'm interested to know how it holds up over the winter (and longer-term as well).

So Barbaro is getting a new fitted shoe for the left hind...again, sweet Bobby J, you are opening up new doors in eqine medicine. You continue to amaze me with your determination and intelligence.

Mrs. Jackson, thank you for keeping Alex (and us) updated. It is so clear to see how devoted you and your family are to Barbaro.

To any new visitors to this site - Welcome. Take a look around and get to know us. We are a diverse group of people who work to show compassion to other living things in small ways or "large" ways. But no matter how you look at us, compassion and love are what brought us here - now.

Good morning everyone!

How exciting that our boy is getting new shoes---I personally find that to be one of the great small joys in life ! Those of you in Florida might be interested in checking out this slideshow about Hialeah Park...so sad to see such a beautiful place fall into such disrepair. I watched the same thing happen to Garden State Park (Cherry Hill, NJ) up the road from my home---every time I drove by the weed-filled stables, I felt like the ghosts of previous champions were calling out to me. Fortunately, the developer who took over the land (to build another Home Depot because we certainly needed another one of those) had an 8-year-old daughter who wouldn't let him bring in the bulldozers until all of the stable cats were rescued.

Hugs and nose skritches to Big B...and keep calling!

Hi Folks:

I Just received this message from AHIMSA Ranch:

Sorry to post bad news.... but I just don't know what to do. Our rescue purchased several weeks worth of hay at the local hay auction this last Saturday, a thousand dollars worth in total. I finally got help lined up to go pick it up today from the auction yards... and 110 bales of the 160 small bales we bought had been taken! This happened today, in broad daylight, with all of the auction workers present..... There were fresh tire tracks in the snow, showing where someone had pulled up, loaded it, and driven right out the gates.... The auction will take no responsibility for the theft, even though they did not follow proper procedure by checking to see if the theives had a loading slip.... So, long story short... I just feel sick about the whole thing, and the rescue has no way of making up the amount of money we allready spent in the near future..... We are out well over $600 .... and only have hay left for about 5 days, and are currently feeding 46 horses with all the new rescues that have come in !!!! I have never heard of something like this happening before... and have been buying hay for the rescue at this auction for the last two years.... I know that high hay prices are affecting everyone... and you all have your own horses to feed.... but please, please... if everyone can contribute just a little bit we can replace the load of hay!!!!

Donations can be mailed to the rescue, or sent via Paypal to: ahimsarescue@aol.com

Alex, thanks for keeping us in the loop about the track surfaces, and the articles you post are always great.

The track(s) that Barbaro built. Most of yall are too young to remember but many baseball stadiums , especially Yankee Stadium, were known as the house(s) that Ruth built. The great Babe Ruth. So this is a discreet unique way of honoring Barbaro even more, equating his influence with the Babe's.What a horse.

With Barbaro recovering so well that he might get to go home, was reminded of this article about Barbaro, I wrote about the "Big Train" on my last birthday.

When I was young I grew up in Louisiana, and lived just two blocks from the Southern Pacific railroad tracks we would go down to watch the Sunset Limited which would roar past, on its way to California. You could hear it coming several miles down the track. When we heard it coming, we would jump up and down and shout with glee, here comes the
"Big Train", here comes the "Big Train",

thats exactly what I thought when the Kentucky Derby announcer was calling the race when he said, and here comes the unbeaten colt, Barbaro he has broken away on the outside, and has swept past the front runners, Keyed Entry and Sinister Minister, he has now has taken over the lead, Barbaro has now broken into the clear and is really pouring it on, he's running away from the field, and its now all Barbaro, he wins the Kentucky Derby by seven.

The only thing I could think of then the announcer was calling the race was my childhood days when we use to jump up and down and yell,

here comes the "Big Train". here comes the "Big Train".

I believe the "Big Train", Barbaro, would have won the triple crown and take his rightful place as one of the greatest throughbreeds of all times. He is an unworldly courageous horse who will forever be my "Big Train"

David Letell,

Thanks for posting your story of the "Big Train." Sound like Kathy Anderson is saying that Barbaro has got his steam back!!

I just got done watching Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron with my 4-year-old daughter. Oh the things she doesn't know - I hope the SH are shut down for good so I don't have to explain about the additional horrors that the two-leggeds have done . . .

Faxing more today this afternoon - we'll keep at it here in San Diego to push for S1915 to pass!

GOOD MORNING BARBARO!!!!

POSTED BY SHELLEY A
IMPORTANT NEWS......

As you all know, Congressman Whitfield was instrumental in getting HR503 passed in the House. I just spoke to his office and was assured that he is seeing this through and is still involved in the "negotiations" with the senate.

I was told that the list we have been given (reposted by Socorro at 8:47) is the list that we must stick to.....that they are the ONLY people, at this time, that can make this happen.

I was advised not to expand this list but to stick with it and keep calling.

There were some questions earlier about who we should be calling. I hope this addresses those concerns.

I was also assured that I would be notified if there should be any additions or changes to this strategy.

I've got tears in my eyes reading both articles about Barbaro. Tears of happiness. I can't believe how far we've all come. How far Bobby has come.

He should be SI Sportsman of the year. There's no other story like it.

His legacy will be a lasting one in so many ways---the horse slaughter bill, which will be passed, the changed racing surfaces, the benefits to New Bolton for other animals, the ground-breaking surgery itself. Plus, anybody who is ill or knows someone who's ill, anyone who has an ailing horse or pet---Barbaro gives all of us hope. Miracles do happen.

I am sitting here in my (cold) office here this morning and looking at the calendar that is about to switch to December. Although it is now dark and cold outside here in Minnesota, I am bathed in the warmth and light of this morning's news on Barbaro's improving health and the resulting Barbaro Effect in this country and this sport.

This is a stark contrast to last May and July when the air was warm and moist, but our souls were dark and stormy with sorrow. Constantly reminding each other to remain positive and send healing energy to team Barbaro, we held together and survived the storm. Barbaro himself took every bit of life force we could send to him and perservered despite much unhappiness and pain. His intelligence is asounding and should prove to anyone that animals are a most treasured and valuable part of this earth.

We did not have to suffer the pain of losing Barbaro. I think that is why his story has riveted the nation. There has been much pain in recent years and America was looking for a hero. For a moment, we thought we lost him,.... we thought here is that damn pain again. But as only a true hero can do, he rose up and took the challenge. And we are here to cheer him on. He is making people feel good.

We have suffered the pain of losing many others this summer. Shocking amounts. Both on the track, and in the slaughterhouse. Barbaro gives us the strength now to fight and try to right these wrongs.

As we celebrate the progress that Barbaro has made, remember all that you have learned this past six months and take it to the streets.
I know that it is now cold out there, but bring the FOB light and warmth with you.

Happy Winter FOBS!
Your friend,

Leslie In MN

Good morning, Starshine! You've done it again--ACN! You're getting a special shoe, you're happy, and you continue to inspire and amaze.

What you are doing--what you are letting us help you do--is make The World That Barbaro Built.

I see many new names here today. Welcome to the Barbaro Nation! And welcome home EDDIE KILROY, MARIE from ATL, DAVID LETTELL. It is wonderful to see all of you here again.

Marie, don't you have a horse named April? How is she?

I am full of fight today. Look out, opposition.

PS--my Felix had ACN also and he's being his old Big Boss Kitty self today. BDude, why aren't you eating? You must eat. Steve, I gave Felix Ensure through an eye dropper a few days ago when he wasn't eating. It worked. Keep us posted on the Dude and Dudette.

Barb M. and Joyce, how are your babies this morning?

Hey Guys!

As we all know, all of our efforts to pass S1915 are culminating in these last days of 2006...

I WOULD LIKE TO ISSUE A CHALLENGE TO ALL FOBs to use the contact information on Socorro's/Debra in WI's list (2:47) and GET IN TOUCH WITH THESE SENATORS...

THIS IS SO EXTREMELY IMPORTANT...We have come so far and worked so hard. NO ONE HAS WORKED HARDER OR BEEN MORE FOCUSED THAN THE MEMBERS OF THIS BOARD. Each and every one of you have made it a point to see that this legislation is passed. That is something we all can be proud of.

So I am ISSUING THIS CHALLENGE...THAT WE SPEND EVERY LAST WANING BREATH OF THIS YEAR IN DOING ALL THAT WE CAN TO LET THEM KNOW WE ARE HERE AND WE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL S1915 BECOMES THE LAW OF THE LAND.

EVERYONE OF YOU MATTERS...through each FAX, each EMAIL,each PHONE CALL...one step at a time... thus building a coalition of those who will not stop UNTIL THE SLAUGHTER ENDS...

LET US REDOUBLE OUR EFFORTS AND ANSWER THIS CHALLENGE TO DRIVE OUR POINT HOME...S1915 MUST PASS...

LET US NOT LOOK BACK AND WONDER IF WE LEFT OUT A SINGLE CALL OR FAX OR EMAIL...

WE CAN DO THIS!

You should be in Tulsa, Ok. Yesterday morning it was 70 degrees. Noon, 50 degrees, 3:00, 30 degrees. Overnight, sleet & snow. It took over an hour to get the ice off the car ONCE I got the doors open. Tulsa is like a ghost town. Hardly any movement what with the forecast of 6" to 8" of snow for the rest of the day! My take on all this? "I want my mommy!" But it's a perfect day to do what was on the agenda anyhow. Calls, e-mails and faxes! Take care!

Here's the gospel truth. I left my ice scraper in Mn. So after I got the doors open and ran the de-frosters, front and back, I waited for 20 minutes. The ice was so thick the time frame was not enough. So I pulled an old putter out of my trunk. Actually, it's a classic club worth hundreds of dollars. But it has a nice edge to it so my question was: "Who's going down: me or the putter?" The putter lost! But now for the good part. I'm in a Panera Bread restaurant. Even though there are very few people here they all gave me the evil eye as I walked in with my putter! I'm sitting next to a fireplace and the putter is dry and getting warm! Fortunately the weather is so bad, and getting worse, I don't think those guys that bring the white coats won't be showing up!

What a great day to be a FOB!!!!!
Made my calls on my morning ride to work and now will do some FAXing from my office. Eddie Kilroy's with us again. Yahooooo!!!!!
Just reposting about Monday's call day with Eddie. FOBs take pride.....such could work on behalf of our horses!!!!!

HOT FLASH....OOPPPSSS I MEAN NEWS FLASH.... LOL
I've exchanged emails with Eddie Kilroy about a collaborative effort scheduled for Monday 12/4, the day the Senators return. I've asked him to rally his pro S1915 listeners over the next few days and we'll have our own Nat'l Call In Day. Of course, for us every day is a call in day but if we can increase the numbers Monday it will remind the Senators that we have not forgotten the mission. The strategy remains the same unless otherwise directed by Shelley & Debra. I told Eddie I would provide names & numbers of our targeted Senators. SO PLEASE TREAT MONDAY AS A DAY TO CALL IN DEBTS, BEG, PLEAD, TRADE FAVORS, whatever it takes so we can tally some really big numbers.
Thanks for your help.

Watch out!..that putter might get back at you in AZ and give out a few hook putts to teach you a lesson .

Take care... I left a message with Colemans office to "get with the program"

Laura in Mt. Laurel NJ,
The link for Hialeah brought back alot of memories. My dad and I would go there when I was a kid, he knew some of the Jockeys and Trainers and we would go see the horses and watch them. What a beautiful track that was, especially the drive in with all the palm trees lining the entrance. Thanks.

Due to the turn of events with the site, it is more crucial than ever that we get this bill passed THIS year!!
We will not be have the vehicle to work together as a group. It doesn't mean we will give up....just that we will have to fight horse slaughter through another venue.

Put on your thinking caps about what to do in case the worst happens and the bill is not passed this session. We must continue on!!!

In the meantime, keep making those calls and working towards our common goal....to end horse slaughter!!!

Good morning my dear Barbaro family,

For all of us in this cold snap or, worse, icy and snowy weather, I think those weather fronts have arrived for a reason....and just in time. It is so miserable out that one has to just stay inside and call, call, call. And for our friends in more mild weather, I know you too are contacting our senators just as much! Time is running out and every contact now is so important. I don't post much during the day anymore as my PC is usually tied up e-faxing and/or working (juggling both projects).

Love and prayers to all who need it today. Make it a comfortable, and productive, day everyone.

Posted by: Skyler at November 30, 2006 4:26 PM

Alex, thank you for your kindness and patience all these months helping us with Barbaro's updates and racing information. You went above and beyond what anyone else would have done under the same circumstances. I want to apologize personally to you for anything that I did out of the way or untowards on site to embarass you. I am sorry that I monopolized so much of the board with chatter about personal matters that had no place on a public site. Please forgive my transgressions. I hate to think that I certainly played a large part in causing angst and ire amongst everyone. I am apologizing to you first and foremost. I apologize to all FOBs for anything else unseemly that caused a crack in the foundation. Please have a wonderful life journey and I will remember all of you in the fondest light imaginable. You all have been an inspiration along with Barbaro.

Alex, thank you so much for the many hours you gave to all of us. It is time off in Purgatory, that's for sure.

You have done so much good, educated so many people about racing issues, horse slaughter, and, of course, seen us through the worst days of Barbaro's ordeal.

Someday, the horse slaughter ban will pass, in some form; and even if (God forbid) it ends up being in some other Congress, you will have had a hand in it.

And someday, Barbaro will walk out of NBC for the last time and go home; and you will have been the catalyst for all our prayers and healing energy.

Blessings -- Marilyn/CA

Boy, this is a real blow. Please Everyone inspite of this announcement let's stay focused on S1915. Alex is gracious enough to extend his invitation to this site for 2 more weeks. Think about the horses now, we can grieve later.

Posted by: cathy potter/california at November 30, 2006 4:39 PM

Thank you Alex for giving us two weeks to take care of business. I am at least glad that the Christmas party for New Bolton Center falls into that time frame. So many people came together for the MO. horse sponsorship in honor of the staff of New Bolton that I wanted to make sure they could see the faces of the staff when the stocking and wreath were presented to them. We have so many good hearted people here. It is such a shame it has come to this.

I was already planning something for the horses for Valentine's Day, and looking forward to working with Fans of Barbaro again. It was such a rewarding experience for all of us. To be able to help care for them was a blessing for all of us.

I know there will be no other sites like TWR and it will be so hard to say goodbye to the many friends I have made here.

We did it to ourselves. Alex, you have the patience of Job. Thank you for the last six months. I hope you can look back and be proud of our many accomplishments.

I am very sad today, and I feel many feel as I do. I already feel an emptiness.

A final cheers to you, Alex.

To all the Fans of Barbaro who sponsored the MO. horses to honor the staff of NBC for Christmas.

I am very sad to report that Alex is closing the chat, message boards and comments down in two weeks. That will be right around the party time. I always thought I would have this board to communicate to you the outcome and responses of the NBC staff, Dr. Sweeney and the HSMO. Now I don't think that is possible. The only thing I can think of is to have you send me your email addresses and I will send you pictures as I get them and then give you a wrap up, so to speak.

I never thought we would end this way. I had a lot of plans for Valentine's Day for the MO. horses, now that will become very difficult. I guess we take it one day at a time.

If you are interested in knowing the outcome of the party and the stocking and wreath, email me your address and I will get back to you. My email is

I am truly proud to have worked with you all on this magical Christmas gift!!

Good morning all:
Now that my fingers are thawing out I am going to post an article that should make everyone mad. A fellow FOB has been tracking USDA activities and sent me the following info. Go to the website and check out the actual article. I don't know how to do that blue line thingy so I'll just type it anyway. I reach my technological limits once I turn on the coffee pot and put my car keys in the ignition. Draw your own conclusions. But I see we have so many enemies in this fight who have been doing things that the public is not aware of. And that is one of their strengths: secrecy! They continue with these practices in the hopes that the public will not find out! And the only way to fight them is to let them know we know! Our weapon is knowledge.

Research Project: ESTABLISHMENT OF SEROLOGICAL REFERENCE STANDARDS AND VALIDATION OF A DIGESTION METHOD FOR TRICHINELLA LARVAE IN HORSEMEAT
Location: Animal Parasitic Diseases
Project Number: 1265-32000-076-01
Project Type: Trust
Start Date: Feb 01, 2005
End Date: Feb 01, 2007
Objective:
The International Commission on Trichinellosis (ICT) provides science based recommendations to national and international regulatory agencies and directly influences international trade agreements, control programs and food safety initiatives. At its 2004 meeting, the ICT stated that the major impediment to harmonizing serological surveillance for trichinellosis on a worldwide basis is the lack of standardized reference sera for different species of animals, and it pledged to work towards development of these standards. The data collected from both domestic animals and wildlife surveillance activities are trade barriers. The major problem with serological tests is the lack of standardization among the different tests used in various countries. Countries with poorly operating tests may make inadequate food safety decisions or enjoy export privileges based on false negative results. USDA, in collaboration with CFIA and EU researchers, will develop defined serological reference standards for use in swine and horses on a worldwide basis. Establishment of International Serological Reference Standards according to OIE guidelines for use in surveys and trace-back investigations, and validation and harmonization of Trichinella digestion assay for horsemeat will be accomplished.
Approach:
Groups and doses: A total of 42 horses will be used. Three groups of 12 horses each will be orally inoculated with 1000,5000 or 10,000 Trichinella spiralis larvae respectively. Six uninoculated horses will be kept as controls. Slaughter schedule: Four horses from each dose group & two controls will be slaughtered at 3,6 and 12 months p.i. The control horses killed at 3 months will provide a source of negative tissue for digestion test validation work. Determination of larval load in tissues: Representative bulk muscle samples (100g) from up to 4 sites will be digested from each horse. (14 horses x 12 digests each = 168 digests on site at the first slaughter date). Tissues for digestion test validation: Horses from 3- month slaughter date will provide infected & negative tissues. Larval load will be determined as previously described and tongue, diaphragm, masseter and neck (or other) muscle containing

Have finished all my calls for now, called many Senators today ! So I am signing off now, and will return later this evening.

You are all so great and I'm so proud to know you. the posts have been so good today, it has given me such a feeling of optimism.

Posted by: Bobbie B at November 30, 2006 4:48 PM

A few days ago, somebody started a candle group for all of us -- for the TWR groups. Does anyone know the name? I can see the beginnings of a blame game going on, on the forums, and I would like to suggest that we all go to the candle group, but I can't remember the name of it. Anyone?

Also, now would be a very good time to go and light a candle for Barbaro, S. 1915, and Alex.

I know I sound like a broken record, since this is always my suggestion when things get tough; but sometimes the best thing we can do is be together for a few moments in spirit.

I am not suggesting that we pray that the boards stay open; I respect Alex's decision too much for that. Just that we gather together in this way.

Barbaro-I shall miss you so much, just talking to you and the fellow FOBs have surely helped me become a better person. I am going to be better off just having visited this site because of you, Barbaro. You opened my eyes to so much more than just animal welfare, I always was for the animals! You just made me see that humans need compassion and help too. I pray more than I ever have and this is a wonderful thing. I love you Big Ole Boy. Do not ever forget that. I will love you even if I cannoit say it to you on a site, I know you cannot read, but it was fun while it lasted. I will tell you in my heart, I know God will whisper in your ear for me. Dear Alex,

I too am very sad. However, I can understand why it has come to this. There have just been too many occasions when your requests have not been followed, even though you have taken the time and patience to remind us again and again.

I have made some friendships here that I know I will have for the rest of my life, I will see to it that I keep in contact with so many of our FOB's. We'll find a way to stay in touch and, more importantly, stay together and focused in our quest to help other horses.

You started something great here Alex. I'd like to ask you to reconsider but I fear it would just happen again, and you would be put in another uncomfortable position of having to repost "the rules".

Here is a suggestion: Can we have until the end of the year? Here's why: Many of us need to figure out a way to stay in touch. It would be unfortunate if we became so focused on that in these next two weeks that we lose sight of the senate bill. Let us remain focused on that for these two weeks, then give us until year's end to find a way to keep our focus moving forward.

Thanks for everything you have done.

Alex, there are no words that can convey the appreciation I feel for all you have done here. You have raised awareness in many who love horses, inspired us to campaign for the ones who have no voice, given us an amazing platform for communication, and fostered and you are responsible for cementing relationships in many who would otherwise not even met.

You have incredible patience and have made sacrifices and given more than any of us, even collectively, can repay. I will look forward to continue to read all that you graciously provide to us, and still look forward to meeting you one day, and seeing the fabuluous Fair Hills. You and Tim, and everyone associated with Fair Hills are truly light in many lives, and you have my undying gratitude for what you have done for so many

Hi Cathy,

We'll figure out a way. Yahoo is a good suggestion. Like Shelley said, we need something in the event the worst occurs and this doesn't get passed. We need a way to communicate that could include many, many people so we can continue to do all we can to save the horses.

Gotta run, bye for now.

Hay everyone:
Remember the old saying: "People show their true colors in times of adversity!" This has been, and will continue to be, a great, amazing group of people. So let's finish our work. Put the horses first, that's why we are here! That's how we must respond to adversity. Then we can figure out how to continue the work Barbaro has set us out to do: fight for safer tracks, helping rescue ranches, etc. There are answers to every problem. We will figure out the answer to this problem. And everyone needs to maintain respect for Alex and any decision he makes. He is the foundation for all the good that has been accomplished. He's a godsend!
Daryl!

Thank you, Mr. Daryl...we needed that..

Well....here comes that dang pain again.
The cold is starting to creep back in.

I dont know alot about what has happened but I know that Alex must have a VERY good reason. I hope that you are proud of the good things that you accomplished here Alex, as we are certainly proud of you. Please dont be discouraged by the forces of the darker side of human nature. It's an age old struggle. One that is often incomprehensible. I hope that you have not been personally hurt by something or someone.

I will miss you my friends...none quite as much as the poetic thoughts of Martita. Thank you Martita for giving me such beautiful words to read each day. I strive to see things as you do.

I dont know if I will post in the next two weeks or not. I'll have to look to Barbaro for the answer.

I do know that
I believe in Miracles.
I believe in Barbaro
I believe in FOB's

Daryl
I know you're a golf pro, but I think you may have missed your calling. Have you ever considered motivational speaking? You would be perfect for it. You seem to say/write the right thing at the right time.

BTW: If you don't like your weather, try mine. It's 28 today, we have 2-4 inches of snow predicted overnight and 3-5 more for Friday morning. It was 59 yesterday during the day, now this.

Shall we take up a collection for a new club/scraper for you??? LOL

ALEX, aren't you going to miss us? No voices for you to hear, but you know we will be in the background.

THANK YOU for having done so much.

I was telling a friend that I was sorry you guys were able to see the weak part of me,

"tears I share with only good friends"

This news shocked me and first thing I did was to breakdown. Now my friends are picking me up. This is what I will miss FRIENDS helping FRIENDS.

On the positive side, at least we have time to think of something. What a shock it would have been to come to this site this morning and it would have been gone.

When I worked for a veternarian he always said, "There are only solutions in life no problems." So let's look for the solutions.

I have only been interested in horses since Barbaro's win and then his injury. One of the things I have observed over and over is that horse owners and horse lovers are always following their HORSE. Soooooooooooooo, let's follow our horse...keep on, keeping on.

Daryl Smoliak - I've missed something - where the heck are you? (Must avoid that area...)

Candice:
I just read your post! Pull up your bootstraps and get with it. I know it's tough. I'm having a tough time dealing with it. But that's one of the gifts God gave us humans: the ability to handle tough situations through choice. The horses we are trying to save DON'T HAVE A CHOICE! They are at the mercy of cold hearted, cruel people who don't care about innocent lives. Those horses are depending on us. Don't throw all the work away because of some bad news. You will not only be wasting the time and efforts you have valiantly given, but you will also be wasting the teams' efforts. And that's how we have come so far! As a team! No one person can win this fight! But one person can lose it! Every contact is critical! Now step up and do what you are capable of. If you want to whap me in the nose for my harshness, great, if that's what it takes to get you and everyone else to get at this, you can all whap me! Besides, I'm so cold from this Ok. weather I wouldn't feel a thing! So smack away!
LOL to all!
Back to work! And that includes me!
Daryl!

I've obviously missed something, too. What's going on?

#####

Alex: In the article about Barbaro's new shoe, there was a statement from Kathy Anderson: "There was some thought to send him back to Fair Hill, but everyone thinks he would be better served to go when he's ready for a permanent home"......Is there a chance that Barbaro will be going back to Fair Hill? I think this would be a perfect place for him. He will be near NBC, Dr. Richardson, Dad and Mom Jackson, and you.............we would be able to keep getting updates on our Precious Barbaro when he leaves NBC. Would he be going back to his old stall? I got all teary eyed when I saw the empty stall after he was injured.

Thank you,
Jeanette Cavalier

OKAY,

DARYL and so many of you, you are right, BARBARO's life was on the line several times and he didn't give up, didn't even complain.

First things first, THE BILL for the HORSES.

PLEASE, call Senator Chambliss and follow ShelleyA's Instructions.

By the way, I called the wrong number apologizing again for all the calls she may have had. Annie in TX pointed out, let's hope it's not the National Security Defense's number.

As per SHELLEY A. –

***** STRATEGY FOR THANKSGIVING RECESS*******

We were unable to get our bill to the floor before the recess and, as of now, it doesn’t look like it will be attached to the Agriculture Appropriations Bill.

This is NOT acceptable and we have been asked to raise a public outcry by flooding the phone lines It’s final crunch time and we’ve been asked to remain focused for the next two weeks.

Contact these Senators to ask for action on The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act in any vehicle before adjournment.
