Barbaro Updates: 147

updates are now here.

Update 1130: Mrs. Jackson did visit Barbaro this morning (sunday morning) and all remains well. She had called to let us know.
updated 11:00am

Update 1129: Mr. Jackson called earlier this morning to say that he and Mrs. Jackson visited Barbaro Saturday afternoon after they had returned from Kentucky. Barbaro was able to get a chance to get outside to graze. Mrs. Jackson is planning on visiting Barbaro again this morning so I may get another update after that visit.
updated sunday 8:30am

Update 1128: Still no Barbaro update for the weekend. It is possible this may become the norm over the weekend at this stage. Of course I am still hoping for an update sometime today. Here is another article on the Jackson's from friday evening's charity auction: Jacksons Honored at Record TCA Auction. It includes the following excerpt:

"All we did this year was follow the leader, and the leader was Barbaro," declared Gretchen Jackson to great applause. "He has brought the horse community together and for its welfare."

Graham Motion has a nice graded stakes winner waiting for him when he himself moves down to Florida: Ballast makes the grade in Tropical Turf.

Emily writes an excellent (and somewhat amusing) post on How it feels to gallop on the new Tapeta. The Bloodhorse has an editorial on more global considerations of synthetic tracks: Spanning the Globe. The article actually finishes up discussing the issue that American horses rarely travel overseas to contest global racing events. We saw this in our coverage of the Japan Cup and Melbourne Cup (and likely the Hong Kong Vase which we are covering for next weekend).

Update 1127: Today's Barbaro update is prooving elusive, but I am still hopeful there will be an update later. I asked Jean (Fan of Barbaro, provider of the "Grow Hoof Grow!" poster that was hanging outside New Bolton, and featured in the ESPN piece prior to the Breeders' Cup) if she could replace the poster with a new one, as it was wearing out due to weather. She Fedex'd me a new version and I just drove over to hang it up. It looks great, although a little lonely (it is the only poster hanging on the gates at this point).

ShelleyA's Mr. Boxcar just ran second in a stake at Philadelphia Park (8th race), very impressive! I am glad to see Victor Molina was aboard (Red Aspen's regular rider). The Jackson's Stormy Kiss was third at Aqueduct. Ramon Dominguez, riding at Aqueduct, must think he is back at Delaware Park!

Barbaro Vigil 7 pm (east coast). Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, spare some time for Barbaro.

Update 1126: When I spoke to Mrs. Jackson yesterday, she was on her way to Kentucky. Of course I should have known why, but had forgotten! Here it is: Auction benefits equine charity. Thoroughbred Charities of America's annual event had moved to Kentucky for the first time this year. The article includes a nice photo of the Jackson's and the following excerpt:

Gretchen Jackson said it had been "an incredibly emotional year" for her and her husband, who live five minutes from the New Bolton Center where Barbaro is being treated. She visits him a couple of times a day, "just to see how he's doing."

Sometimes when she's feeling sad, she sits in the stall and talks to him, she said. "Just being around him is very calming," Jackson said.

The Jacksons and the "Barbaro team" of doctors and nurses from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine were honored last night. Accepting for the school's New Bolton Center was dean of Penn Vet, Joan Hendricks.

"Through and through a young stallion, a handful," Hendricks said of Barbaro. She described the look in his eyes after the injury: "If he hadn't had the bright eyes, everybody would have stopped."

Update 1125: Despite the dire predictions for the weather this morning, it turned out to be a beautiful morning. There were a few horses working for the first time on the synthetic (Tapeta) track. It looked like all worked well. The odd thing is, when you are on the dirt track you really cannot hear the horses galloping on the synthetic track. I assume that is a good thing. I galloped one over it a little later in the morning and the track was still quite consistent. It does not require a maintenance break, which is also a nice feature (you don't have to time your sets to avoid the break).

Hawty Creek worked 3/8ths this morning, and went very nicely. We had some visitors who were here to watch. Her owner (who used to be a trainer) and her breeder were also here to watch her go. She went in company with another horse of Tim's, it was a nice easy work. Anyway, all in all a very pleasant (suprisingly so given the weather forecast) morning to be outside and enjoying life.

Update 1124: As we know, Russell Baze broke Laffitt Pincay's record yesterday. This is of course well covered in the racing press:
9,531: Baze new No. 1
Baze Becomes Racing's All-Time Leading Rider!
Baze overtakes Pincay with record victory
Baze's record more Ripken than Rose

Here is the Barbaro "Life a Series of Small Steps" in China!

A "Fan of Barbaro" had this letter published: Letter: Save horses from slaughter. Feel free to comment.

I believe the Barbaro update today won't be until late in the day.

This could happen, coming home.
In a few months from now an Equine Ambulance with sirens going full blast pulls up to the main entrance to Lael Stables, the door to the ambulance opens and the ramp slides forward and extends its self to the ground. Exiting the Ambulance will be this famous champions support staff, each carrying arm loads of gifts consisiting of carrots, mints, stud muffins etc. And finally this exquisitely powerful and handsome figure emerges wearing his autographed custom made blanket from Churchill Downs that says "Barbaro" on the side, he then does his famous little happy Jig, Jog steps as described by his morning excerise rider. When this gallant warrior who was critically injuried, at the Preakness, his injuries touched the very soul of an entire nation, and it felt his pain. After many months of healing and recuperating against life threating odds, this valiant warrior finally gets to say, what he has been looking forward to saying for many months Mom, Gretchen, I'm home.

DAVID LETELL - thanks a lot, pal, for making me cry first thing in the morning! Just kidding - I love your post and pray for the day that we can all watch the tv coverage of that great event. However, I have a feeling the sirens would be silenced and the trip home would be accomplished under cover of darkness. I really hope our boy goes home to Lael...as generous as the Jacksons have been about saying he should go where people could visit, I feel they DESERVE to have him at home (as long as they provide occasional photos and updates - LOL!)

MARIBEL - you are the one who needs OUR warm thoughts - I can't even imagine that frigid cold!

My local tv news just showed a beautiful campsite in upstate CT where you can bring your horse with you - now all I need is a horse! Barbaro, you are hereby invited to go camping with me when Dr. Richardson gives you permission! I love you, sweet boy, and wish you a cozy, happy day and a nice warm bath to make you smell like the prince you are!

goodmornig alex, and FOB-
a superb article by a wonderul FOB,
about the dirty little secret in america. THE ONE WE ALL HAVE BEEN WORKING FOR TO END..24-7-
.and the other kudos to a fine jockey..
this is, perhaps, a milestone especially a charter of his skills and good heart on the back of many a fine racing horse- his mastery =-how to be on that horse.. and not interfere in the flow of the creature beneath him..and yet ,know when and how ,at the right moment...
i will be intereseted to know how the new track surface at fair hill repsonds to the ice ,snow, mud of winter.
. my fingers are crossed. which just underscores for me all the magnificent things from the barbaro effect
..to ease the challenges each race horse faces
....and their caring owners..and affect of this raising consciousness on other owners to reflect on the gift of their horses...initially about money invested..
i reflect on the cold weather and the perspective of the team caring for bobby..his morning rituals like ours, are changing and on the sun side ,exciting things can happen when one door closes and a new door is opened..
,a new stronger step is taken..--
every morning ,out of the stall..at NBC-
the fob that wrote that fine piece
reminds me, about the simple power and courage of
BARBARO
WILLINGLY TAKES ON HIS DAILY ROUTINE TO HEALTH AND EVENTUAL ..WE PRAY--DEPARTURE TO GREENER FIELDS.AND PLEASURE,
THAT the war against horses and the sanctity of their lives..is a long struggle and
as Mary s. noted,
there
have been unsung heroes working on this for years..and years.
.dodging all manner of ignorances and cruelties--..
voicing one;s oppostion to this war against horse s alone is not enough.--from my many shortened sleeplees nights --it is a way of life--
we must do something to bring about an end to this equine war.
.the week end only opens up a field of reflection,
of possibilities.of things to be done for bobby..and his voice and the depth of his suffeirng.
i agree with mike c.
this is the horse of our time.
.period
. a veritable champion, through and through...and those thousands today ,that are being loaded into the trucks
...those awful trucks..
so many have struggled to make the conditionsTO THE DEATH HOUSES-- better when they were stone walled on the other fronts.
.so today,
i re dedicate to those invisible of us..knowing in my heart that barbaro takes a fresh step in good faiht and boundless courage
and the bucket arrives with his fresh grass at morning time and at evening time.
.this is seared into my heart for ever.
.this golden integrity .this vision. of doing the right thing.
i will not abandon barbaro or the team or FOB, anyone
who shows up.
.now is the time..
i will be at the collective vigil tonight..as alwasy
seven pm for all who need a hand i extend and my soul
i seek to fill a new.
.wiht hope and good heart and resolve..in gratitude for the skill and mastery that quielty has shed upon this site in its creation and its founding artisan.
alex brown.
.who has endured an endless series gf challenges.
for us and hte larger casue..to make a differnce..
.like many of us.enduring our own challenges...
.without complaint...
and the fleet of caring souls who daily support the intentionality of creating a space to support barbaro and his family and his horse nation.
congratulations to those who ride these great steads--
in the light and in the dark,
may the divine
shine upon this land and our fraelties and move us all forward
in new paths
to one
FOR BARBARO.
.YOUR SUFFERING IS NOT IN VAIN.

Good Morning again,

Mr. & Mrs. Jackson, and Dean Joan Hendricks were in Lexington last night accepting an honor from the Thoroughbred Charities of America. The stallion season auction was last night at Keeneland. The story about the auction & picture is at: kentucky.com, on the front page under Local News.

Dean Hendricks says this about Bobby: " Through and Through a young stallion, a handful".

Atta Boy Bobby, keep those folks at NBC on their toes.

SUSAN E - it was a sight for my worried eyes to see the lovely Miss Callie back out on patrol! Her rider is exhausted!!! because the stable manager is pretty negligent, so momma Linda bore the brunt of Callie's care...let me know if I sent you Callie's picture! Princess-Maizie-with-the-slower-thyroid (thank God for chicken-flavored liquid meds!) sends purrs, kisses and gentle head-butts to Felix, and Sir-Seamus-the-big-oaf sends the same (with harder head-butts) to Lizzie!

Dean Hendricks says this about Bobby: " Through and Through a young stallion, a handful". Our dear boy a "handful"...imagine that - LOL!

GODSPEED TO ALL BRAVE HORSES WHO PUT HOOVES TO TRACK TODAY! I can't wait to see the handsome Mr. Boxcar again...I assume he's at Philly Park?

#######

Barbaro Family,

I finally decided to get up after laying in bed for over a hour and put on paper the words that are flying around in my head. I can’t count how many times, in the last six months, I have found myself wide awake in the middle of the night, laying and thinking about Bobby. I finally gave into the odd hour I felt called to offer prayers. It has become one of my favorite times to pray now. Bobby and I have met often here the silence of the night. I’ve prayed regularly for his broken right leg, then and now for his left foot. I have also pray for many of you, after reading your postings day after day and month after month. Something in your words drops into my heart and like the prayers I petition for Bobby, I follow your words into a prayer. It has been a curious thing to be called to be part of this moment in time. Prior to last May, I knew next to nothing about horse racing. I think I may have attended perhaps two races in my 58 years. That is particularly interesting in that I grew up no more than 10 miles from Long Acers Race track in Seattle. What has been more interesting is finally coming to peace with connecting with the call of a horse and people that I can almost reach out and touch somehow in my minds eye.

Linnie, I am sorry I didn’t acknowledge and offer to stand with you when you wrote posting after posting last week. Your writing is some of the best statements of what I feel clearly and eloquently stated my hearts position on the best use of the gift of this site. Last week was like watching a grade “B” movie in slow motion. I couldn’t quite believe what I was reading. It has taken me until today to digest what happen. You were clear, firm, and nicely stated your position. You did not give into to being bullied. You really wanted to broker peace. For whatever reason, people did not or could not hear what you said so well; as a result, we all have lost.. Linnie; you did the right thing; the lewd comments and sexual innuendoes just had to stop.

Mary S., Thank you for your prayers, for your encouragement, friendship and for helping me embrace the gifts I was given and for finding my voice.

Mike C. You, I think have captured the very spirit of Barbaro and his journey. I love “the call.” I am happily reduced to tears each time I read about “the boys” amazing journey around the race track of life. You beautifully state his courage and the overwhelming odds he has overcome. Thank you, again.

Martita Goshen. I will so miss your postings that dance for me each day. Your words give my soul wings and open doors in my mind. Thank you.

Dora Crow, you are a dear lady and I so love your postings. What a sweet heart you have. Dora, listen to your heart, it will lead you where you long to go. Follow your dreams and you will no longer feel overwhelmed with life. It might be a little scary at first. But you are a brave soul and you will never regret following your heart. You will only regret staying where you are now.

Jeanette Cavalier, I love your prayers. Blessed be the gentle, they shall inherit the earth. Blessed be the peace makers, for they shall be called sons of God. You see something in the spirit that called you again and again to prayer. I see it too!

Gloria IL and Melissa Hartin, Lynn Gilbert, I love your writing!

To all of the “horse” people. Debbie, Shelly, Julia B, Dee from Denver, Daphne, Skyler, Anna, in Tx, Christian, Nancy in CT, C. Jaffe, J. Carson Black, JO (UK), Edie, Sally in Key West, Linda Lee, lynnette, Lisa Morin, Mary Langkamp, Nancy, Maribel, all the Lynns, Cheryls, Sues, Marys and Lorraine, Sandie, Rachel the florist, others who regularly posted and any names I may have missed.

Thank you all for your encouraging postings, information, and comments. Thank you all for the opportunity of being part of something much bigger, and more nobler that I could have ever imagined. S1915, and track safety.

Barbaro, Thank you most of all. You called me; as you did all of the people who came when you were hurt. We have learned from you. You are a treasure and freely provided life lessons on how to behave in the face of overwhelming poor odds. I so loved to hear about your antics even during the dark days when you flirted with a mare, or nipped at one of your nurses. I trust you will continue to show us the right way of handling what life brings us. There is still time and we all need to learn more of your lessons of being gracious, kind and living life each day the best possible way.

Alex-thanks for the dynamite updates as usual.

Mr. B, what can I say? You're a very famous horse athlete, more so after what you've been enduring these past several months.

It's sunny here in NJ (but cold) so I hope that means a few trips out into the sunshine.

Enjoy!

Thank you Sharon Crumb for such a wonderful letter to the editor. I loved all the comments to it as well. Some were clearly not from FOBs, so word is spreading. Hopefully it will continue to spread even after the comments section is closed. At least we can still check on our beloved Barbaro. I really thank you for that, Alex. You've provided a wonderful service.

I will miss all the comments from those who post regularly and infrequently, I will miss Hay it's me bArbaro. It's funny. I often find myself talking with him in that bAbaroSpeak that Cheryl translates so eloquently. I will miss all the knowledge and comments everyone offers. Horses have been saved because of this Web site, and that is enormously valuable. I am sure there will be a way for the connections to continue, even if it's not all in one place. I like the fact that those of us with little or no knowledge can ask questions and learn from people who are not arrogant, but just want to share their knowledge.

I can't begin to name all the people here who seem like people we would all want to get to know. I am in awe of all you people for your compassion, friendliness and enthusiasm for Barbaro. I was depressed for weeks after his accident, just like I was depressed after other horses before him broke down. I hope there will be some outlet. I know when the movie about Ruffian comes out, I will be a mess and will need a shoulder to cry on. You all have been that, even though I rarely post. Sorry this has been so long, but I sorely needed that shoulder today.

Confident that we will be hearing another good progress report later today about Barbaro, the reason we are all here on this site.

Re the Fan of Barbaro's pro-S1915 opinion letter linked in Alex's update this morning - WAY TO GO, Sharon! I just submitted the following as a comment:

Thank you for publishing this informative letter on this disturbing issue. I wish you would also stress to your readers, that everyone who agrees with Ms. Crumb's position that this barbaric practice should end, should CALL THE 2 US SENATORS from their own State THIS WEEK requesting that S 1915 get out of Committee, be brought to a vote, and then be passed. As Ms. Crumb so poignantly points out, unless this comes to pass before the end of this session, the whole process of trying to ban horse slaughter for foreign human consumption will have to start all over again, and countless innocent lives will be brutally lost. So PLEASE, readers, call your Senators THIS WEEK.

Respectfully suggesting that many of us go to the letter linked by Alex up top, and add your comments below as well. Many voices - reminds me of that wonderful Dr. Seuss classic, "Horton Hears a Who," which was made into a powerful animated TV special that I will never forget. Anybody else remember that one? Our whole Barbaro Nation phenomenon reminds me of that concept, actually. Many voices.

Good morning:
Great work by Sharon Crumb. We have e-mailed back and forth. Let me say how passionate she is. She does research on horse slaughtering from every angle. She studies USDA documents, etc. She is what this site meant us to be. We all have the ability, born of our passion, intelligence and resolve, to work in the manner she has displayed. In her e-mails to me she has told me of some difficult times in her life. She has risen above a lot. And now she is giving to America's horses. I have saved her e-mails and re-read them every once in a while. They are inspiring. It's because of people like her that someday our horses will be freed from the horrors of the slaughtering industry. I have never met her. But if one day we meet I will be honored.

Kauto Star may be the next superstar. Glad you watched - thought you may have avoided it. I think all the horses came home safely today.

Did you see/hear the awful report about the idiot, who I think may have been drinking, who crashed his car into a string of Sir Mark Prescott's horses this morning and seriously injured 2-year old Maunik? Another broken pelvis and the poor young thing may not survive. There's a report on the BBC racing website which I can't get to blue link here.

Judy, one of the Cheryls here reaching out a hand through cyperspace, offering a virtual hug. I have this sense that somehow all our connections, virtual or otherwise, will somehow be perpetuated. We've seen it repeated so often throughout these last few months that love is the tie that binds, and the tie is never broken. Someday, maybe we can have a reunion of sorts. I love WA, especially Seattle, Belleview and the northern parts of your state. I have this sudden urge to do a LOT of traveling! :)

I cried when I read your original posting of Barbaro's homecoming. When it was first written, there were more doubts that the homecoming would be in the near future. Now it seems almost inevitable. What a wonderful day that will be.

Great work by Sharon Crumb, and so many others, Daryl among them. The word is spreading, well past the community inspired by Barbaro. That is just awesome

###
Martita Thanks as always for your words that dance across my screen Sometimes I read them quickly as I'm afraid that the act will be oveer before I've been able to read all the movements. Not being soppy here, just remiss in expressing my thanks for some of what appreciate and have enjoyed here. Taking that opportunity now.

Alex, thank you for your unrivaled persistence in obtaining and providing daily updates on Barbaro's condition and recovery. Moreover, thank you also for sharing your daily morning riding experiences. Additionally, I appreciate the racing articles you (and others) share daily. Your sharing of all about Fair Hill has been most interesting and informative--clearly alot of talented , progressive, and ethical organizations, top to bottom, that honor thoroughbred racing with their deeds--thank you Fair Hill professionals; you are the Gold Standard.

Sue McMullen's commentary that she provides from time to time--it's so hard to find the proper words to applaud someone's writing that paints such vivid images in previewing and reviewing International races--not only a most talented writer, but also, possessing a wealth of racing knowledge and understanding. And is clearly a fan of racing! Thank you, Sue McMullen.

Additionally, a big thank you to Jo (UK), Shannon & Zeena, and Lynda Pellitteri for your efforts and posts, providing the race day "racing programs". My coffee tastes so much better on these mornings; when I can research the races from "your" programs, and hopefully find gems of value to add to my own findings for wagering later in the day. Thanks guys.

Finally, I am so happy for the continued improvement with Barbaro's condition and overall health. Speaking of Gold Standard, Barbaro's performance in the Kentucky Derby this year will surely be the standard by which future contestants in that classic of classics will be measured, and most likely, for some time to come.

Peace, and Best Wishes

Judy Walker: Thank you for your heartfelt words. As you can tell, I live my life according to my Creator's will. A couple of years ago, I lost my beloved mother who was 95 years "young" when she entered my Father's House. I took care of her for 7 years and her "final wish" was to die at home in her little "casita" (home). She passed on in her house but seeing her go was something that will forever be an "unimagenable" pain in my heart. A couple of months before the anniversay of her passing, I lost 2 of the best friends in my life: my 2 sisters. They passed away just 10 days apart from the same "horrible cancer" that took my "Foggy" in September. My friends ask me from time to time how I have managed to deal with all this loss and still seem to be so "happy" all the time. The only answer is the love that I have for my Heavenly Father. He has just instilled such peace in my heart and prayer to me is something that I do 24/7 for all my family, friends and their "furry companions". Things for me have still been a struggle. Just recently my car was reposessed, my cable was shut off (can't watch horse racing anymore), my 52" big screen TV (which I purchased 4 years ago as a present to me) is broken, then of course the sicknesses in my family.......thru it all, my love for my Father just keeps getting stronger and stronger. I may get discouraged at times, but just knowing that this journey (with all it's ups and downs) will eventually end (I hope) when my God comes for me. I will be so happy to see my family, friends, furry companions and "Lost in the Fog".......God bless you and yours.

Sincerely,
Jeanette Cavalier

Liz...I have to confess that I was watching with one eye closed (Andrew Tinkler's crashing fall scared the living daylights out of me!) and watched the replay properly when I knew they were all ok. But Kauto is an incedibly brave horse, and he made that race look like a romp in the park!

JUST FYI: Senator Clinton's mailbox is full! Gotta love it....will call on Monday, obviously. Be well everyone, thank you Alex and Tim for this wonderful clearinghouse and access to so many different minds about racing, horses and the political world in whihc we unfortunately live. God wrap his loving arms around S1915 and let this go through a successful vote.

The feeling of dread and panic that I can summon thinking about all the innocent horses who will suffer is the same I felt in 1990 when I was moved to get my first retired racing greyhound. And then another, then an 11-year old brood bitch, then formed one group, then another et al....and now have been at placing many, many dogs and living aware of and at the fringes of the often cruel world of greyhound racing for 15 years now. The more you know, the more you can help. And the more you help, the greater the fire in your belly for getting these magnificent horses into safe situations....just keep on keeping on as we said in the 60's and be faithful to your dreams for these animals. They, like the extraordinary greyhound, are God's animals. They were not meant to die by the bolt gun and the blade. And we are bound to stand by them and do whatever we can do, at whatever level. Even if it is to just support the magnificent example set by the Jacksons and others
who have helped bring the wretched state of the American horse to light--for the whole world to see. We are the Barbaro Nation. And we are powerful. Stay strong. Stay determined. Be well.

I don't know why things are being shut down but it makes me very sad. I do hope Alex will continue to post your progress and share with us his comments reagrding horse racing and horses in general. I thought Mike C was going to repost "The Call" by 10:00 a.m. this morning eastern time. Is it here? I can't seem to find it.

Posted by: Carol at December 2, 2006 6:41 PM

Mike C. ended up deciding to post The Call early. Soon after someone asked him to post and he said he'd post on Saturday, he posted again and said, what the heck, might as well post it now...and he did. If you go back, you can find it. I'm not sure what day that was. There may also be a post on the forum??

Someone whose name I won't mention just called others "IDIOTS" - that poster is a Namecaller. I will simply quote that old tried and true saying, "It takes one to know one."

########
unfortunately midafternoon I will be out and about going to the barn (that closes at 5) so can't watch Mr. Boxcar's race "live" - does that website also have videos of the day's races available later in the day? Thanks for any info on this. I just fell in love with this horse after seeing the pics recently.

Thanks Alex, for the post on the auction last night. When I read Mrs. Jackson's quote how she sits in the stall and talks to Barbaro, I thought how many of us are there with her, maybe not in the physical sense, but definitely with our prayers. I continue to pray hard for his recovery.

I'm also praying that the Senate will do the right thing.

Re-post:

Alex posted three rules a long time ago. Does anyone remember them? I wish he had them posted someplace permanently.
I think they were something to the effect of:
-- Don't engage anyone in an argument
-- Don't react to anyone who tries to engage you
-- Don't add commentary to anyone's argument
Was that basically it? Does anyone remember?

Not sure whether this is the appropriate place to post this, but I couldn't find an appropriate thread in the discussion section.

There are a number of sites set up where you can contribute money simply by clicking--one is animalrescuesite.org. If you click, you enable sponsors to contribute food to rescue animals. You can click once a day.

I haven't been able to find any recent verification of the authenticity of the site, but as of 2003, it was viewed as legit, as are its sister sites for breast cancer, rainforests, child literacy, and a few others. There are links to themon the animal rescue site.

It's easy and quick, and a very small way to make a contribution.

Hello everybody! Still following doctors orders but had to stop in here to check on Barbaro and all of you. I am so glad that Barbaro is doing so well, he is such an inspiration for us all.
What a nice story about Sonny, he is a beautiful horse. My prayers go out to the 2 yr. old horse and the jockey that were injured in the UK, I hope they can save Maunkie.
I am going to miss all of you if Alex closes this site, you have all been like one big cyber family!Together we have all seen so much about Barbaro's progress, the MO horses, Darlin, Fog, Pine Island.just to name a few, working on the Horse Slaughter Act, I couldn't have done as much as I did if it wasn't for all of you, and wouldn't even have known about it, and the synthetic tracks. Everyone here loves horses and thats what its all about and everyone here has compassion and strength to endure all odds. Thank you Alex for having this site and bringing all of us together for the love of Barbaro!
If anyone finds out where we can all talk again the next couple weeks let me know as I will miss all of you, wishing Barbaro and the Missouri horses a Merry Christmas and all of the Fans of Barbaro too.

Hi Renee:
I am going to ask you a favor! There have been a lot of hurt feelings over the last couple weeks. But we really have to stop all the posts pertaining to blame, saying goodbyes, etc. Let's all embrace that this coming week could possibly be historical in the fact should we pass S.1915 we will have taken a step forward in our moral progression as a nation. We have an opportunity at our fingertips to show the rest of the world what America is really all about! We can show the rest of the world democracy really works when one of the world's most powerful government bodies listens to it's people and acts on their moral pleas! Renee, I love this country and it hurts me to no end that the most civilized nation on earth is capable of allowing the horrors our horses face. As a group we have accomplished an incredible amount of good in a very short time. And only as a group can we win the fight we have all accepted. We need every ounce of everyone's efforts this week. We need you, Renee!
Here's a quote from a story today about Barbaro!

Through and through a young stallion, a handful," Hendricks said of Barbaro. She described the look in his eyes after the injury: "If he hadn't had the bright eyes, everybody would have stopped."

Please, everyone, brighten and clear your eyes in the spirit of Barbaro! Let's make this coming week a milestone in American history: the week the horses are set free!
LOL to you Renee!
Daryl!

Yes Marilyn, as I remember it those were the rules and also using the # sign. As we know rules and laws are often broken but the ability to come back to them is a sign that the individual is aware of their need. If constantly broken then it is a sign the individual breaking them is not able for, whatever reason to abide by them. In those cases it gives the person making the rules, ie. Alex, little recourse.

Thank you Marilyn for your insights and caring posts, I truly appreciate all the work you do for our lovely, sweet horses!

Hi Barbaro! I just posted (mailed) you another card this morning full of hugs & kisses. Hope the storms around the area didn't get you too worked up yesterday - was thinking of you and all the equines. Power was out all around us from the nasty winds -- the squirrels filled their bellies and scurried up the trees to their boxes! I know all you had to feel was Dr. Dean's comforting hand or Mom Jackson's. . .
Were you sharing apples again with Dr. Dean :)
Last night as the winds howled I awoke from dreaming of you - you had a huge bucket of those green spearmint leaves!! And you were sharing your yummies with the "donor horses" (Love you babies, too!). It was so real! God Bless your Mrs. Jackson, I can think of nothing more peaceful than sitting in your stall in the presence of YOU!
And Barbaro, don't forget to send a loud neigh to Alex, Edgar & Fondmort - I think they'll be listening! And Foggy will send you a hoof-tap!
My heart beats for your heart, Barbaro!
Novenas and votives continue for you 24/7!
Remember- positive healing thoughts of Lael Meadows to come! The healing will come in those quietest moments . . .
Hey, I hope you like your new shoe, too!! I hope it feels good and just like one of those comfy Italian Bandolino shoes!
You have the very best love & care team under the sun!
Love, "scratchies", and a kiss on your nose!
always, Lou Ann

Good Saturday to all you wonderful people, the Jacksons and their Barbaro Effect, Sharon Crumb, David Letell, Jeannette, Mary S, martita - too many to name, a cumulative effect non pareil.

These Saturdays are so special, I am afraid my life has changed to my dogs' detriment until the shared day has diminished. Thank goodness the sunshine is still here by the time racing has finished on the East Coast! Celebrating the beautiful horse and its athletic prowess here with you is only second to first hand experience which many of us cannot often do... and the international experience is certainly not something we would have enjoyed without Jo and Liz.

- Why have we not heard more about AUGURI (ARG) who is apparently a 5 year old black horse of the Leals trained by Barclay Tagg? He is in Race 7 today at Aqueduct, the race before STORMY KISS.

- Here is the photo of FONDMORT that I posted last night which people may not have seen. One to take the breath away, like that of SHOWING UP stretched out in his race last weekend.

AMAZING FONDMORT

- And safe racing to MR. BOXCAR in less than an hour!

Happy INSIDE bathtime, Barbaro! May the unexpectedly pleasant day even give you a trip outside?? Wish you could read David's account of your future...

###
Cora you are very welcome, Angel was spectacularly beautiful. Very tall for a QH and for a mare at almost 17H She was a head-turner. Always carried her head beautifully and had the most gorgeous confirmation. She's gone on, and I have to think that she met The Fog, Precisionist, the MO horses who were lost, the little pony, and Pine Island when they arrived. She and my 1/2QH 1/2Arab Gina were quite the nurturers, seeking out other horses who were frightened or insecure. I wish I had photos, but when my dad passed away in June, my brother discovered that many family photos and videos, etc., were missing. No idea what happened. I'm hoping they're just hidden somewhere.

Anyway..Congrats to Mr. Boxcar..prayers continue for safe rides today, just had to come back home to watch that race :) Back out into the throngs!!

Love to all
