Barbaro Updates: 149

updates are now here.

Update 1141: Another chilly start to the day this morning. The radio said it was 20 degrees (F), but it actually felt a little warmer than yesterday. Everyone once in a while you will see a new "old" face at Fair Hill. This morning it was Tom Fynn, who seemed to appear out of nowhere to be galloping for Graham Motion. Tom was a jump jockey in Ireland (TV Fynn) and has been over here probably as long as me. The last time I saw him was a couple of Breeders' Cups ago, and I thought he was in San Francisco. It turns out he has been spending considerable time in Malawi, has just returned, and is heading to Florida to work for Graham Motion.

I took Hawty Creek to the gate. She has not run for a while, had had a couple of gate "issues" when she was last in training, so I planned to stand her in the gate and get her to relax. She was actually very good. I'll probably do that one or two more times before she runs. I open galloped one on the synthetic track. He went well, the track seemed a little firmer under these colder weather conditions. Almost like a turf track just tightening up a little. That being said, it is still by far the most popular track at Fair Hill at this point.

Seven ridden, busy morning, now to wait for the Barbaro update.

Update 1140: The Bloodhorse has a great article on Takeover Target: Takeover Target Has Taken His Owner/Trainer from Obscurity to the Top. After reading this you have to root for this horse on sunday in the Hong Kong Sprint. The article also gives a little insight into how Australian racing is set up. Here is an excerpt:

In 2003 the quality of horse in his barn changed. On a sunny day, Janiak went to a tried stock sale and bought an unwanted, unraced, knock-kneed 4-year-old with ordinary breeding who, he had been told, had bad knees and wouldn't run around a bend. This of course was going to restrict him dramatically, but Janiak liked him and paid just $1,100 for him.

Janiak nicknamed him Archie and that horse, who races as Takeover Target (Celtic Swing-Shady Stream by Archregent), has changed his life.

Thoruoghbred Times announces the opening of our new track: Fair Hill opens all-weather Tapeta surface, although the article suggests Fair Hill had been closed (not the case.)

The Barbaro update this morning will again likely be late in the morning. Keep calling!

Update 1139: I just spoke to Dean McKeown (8:15 pm east coast on tuesday, some time wednesday morning in Hong Kong), Collier Hill's jockey (who is running in the Hong Kong Vase, the last big global race on the 2006 calendar). He was walking Collier Hill as I was speaking with him after his morning exercise. (I could literally hear Collier Hill's footsteps on the obviously hard surface.) Dean had just exercised him (his wednesday morning exercise). He did two seven furlong canters. Dean said he was very well and is very happy with him. Dean noted that Collier Hill flew over very well (Collier Hill has been in Hong Kong for a few days). It always takes a few days for him to "find his legs" after his travel, but Dean noted he has found his legs and is in good shape.

Collier Hill will work tomorrow, a mile. I will try to catch up with Dean the same time tomorrow to see how things are progressing.

Update 1138: Just a quick note of thanks. The $500 gift included in my birthday present has manifested into four new tires for my truck. As I was waiting for the tires to be replaced I made a couple of calls. Sabina is continuing her recovery, and seems to be progressing well. She did mention some work she had done, so she is on some kind of light work schedule at this point. I also called Peter for the first time since they left for Florida. It seems they have all settled in well and the horses are now in their new winter "digs" at Palm Meadows. He told me it was raining, I noted the clear blue sky we had up here ...

For those interested in seeing Takeover Target ahead of his sprint quest on sunday in Hong Kong, you can view two of his races on Youtube.

Update 1137: Another comfortable night last night for Barbaro (monday night). Mrs. Jackson just called, and she had just visited. Barbaro was laying down when Mrs. Jackson arrived. As much as she tried to be very quiet Barbaro was soon up and ready for his Lael Farm grass.
update 11:30 am, tuesday, december 5

Update 1136: This morning may really be the first winters morning. It was a "balmy" 24 degrees (F) when I arrived at Fair Hill. Six horses ridden, one horse taken care of, and four hours later, my hands are still a little "numb". Everyone galloping is pretty well wrapped up this time of year. I had seven layers of clothing on this morning. Of the three places to train (dirt track, synthetic (Tapeta) track, outback) the synthetic track was by far the busiest. I only had one on this new track but it felt great. The fields were a little hard in spots and the dirt was "ok". I hope they keep the dirt open for a while as it is a good place to take the babies now the track is quiet due to the trainers' preference for the synthetic track.

Dean McKeown (Collier Hill's jockey for the Hong Kong Vase) arrived in Hong Kong a few hours ago. He sent me a text.

Eddie Kilroy left this comment (timestamp: 12:32 pm):

Good morning Barbaro and friends. I know everyone worked extra hard yesterday for B. and friends. Let's do it again today!!! I have to brag on my listeners, they really got on the senators. I'm asking them to keep up with you guys. By the way thanks for the mail. I'm on the air now, so I'll leave you with one request. Sic'em.

Update 1135: The Barbaro update will again likely be later in the morning. As we get ready to cover the Hong Kong Vase this weekend I want to note we will also cover the Hong Hong Sprint all because of a horse called Takeover Target: 'Target' ready for Hong Kong challenge, says Janiak. This horse is another global warrior (like Ouija Board and Collier Hill) and a true rags to riches story.

Keep calling!

Hi to all,

Thank Alex for the wonderful articles. So glad to hear you went to NYC and enjoyed yourself. You deserve it! Please thank Mrs. Jackson for her kindness in getting these Barbaro reports to his most devoted fans.

I have called senators again, and I continue to pray for all of us and the hearts and minds of the senators.

My most fervent prayer however is for our Bobby. May God bless him with His Healing Touch.

Best wishes to all for 2007.

Good morning beautiful Barbaro. Stay warm and enjoy your visits with mom Jackson. She loves you so much, as do we all. So much lake effect snow here, all schools in the tri county area are closed today. That means my 4H groups can call, email and fax all day today instead of just a few hours. Yeah snow!!!!!!! Do your walking and strengthen your leg and grow, hoof, grow !!! Butterfly kisses from Bella, Gracie and me to you big fella.

One more call-in day. I hope the senators get so tired of hearing from us, they bring the bill to the floor, quickly and efficiently!!!!

THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE!!!!!!

Thank you Mrs. Jackson for taking the time to inform Alex of Barbaro's status. It means everything to us!!!!

Good Tuesday morning Alex, Bobby and fellow fans,

Thank you Eddie Kilroy for the words of encouragement. I made one round of calls to the Senators and will do another after work. And maybe another..... Bless your callers for their participation. Please call everyone - or fax or email. While there is time, there is hope. We can't stop now.

Ro - Senate statistics not surprising, are they?
Haven't we learned about politics since getting involved with this legislation? Let's face it, they don't even do much during that 2 months they are there.

THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!

Here is the most effective way to take action during this crucial and very critical two-week period beginning on Monday, December 4, 2006:

ALSO….Please contact:
Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist (TN)

Fax: (202) 228-1264

Senate Minority Leader, Harry Reid (NV)

Fax: (202) 224-7327

Senate Majority Whip, Mitch McConnell (KY)
(202) 224-2541

Fax: (202) 228-2193

Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA)
(202) 224-5824;
Fax: (202) 224-9735

Finally, an important addition to your contact list is incoming House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (CA). During the hearings on this legislation in the House of Representatives earlier this year, Congresswoman Pelosi supported and voted for the bill. Please ask her to contact her colleague in the Senate, incoming Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (now the Senate Minority Leader) and ask him to urge outgoing Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist to bring this bill to the floor for a vote before adjournment.
Nancy Pelosi has the right to say that the House has already voted on this bill, passed it with 263 voted and consequently, does not want to have to deal with this issue again next year. ask her to get involved this way.

Thanks for everything you do everyday for us. I have learned so much, and I know I am a much better person because of this site and all the FOB's!

Good morning to all FOB's!

I talked with aides in Senator Alexander's and Senator Frist's offices. They had been receiving a lot of calls. They were polite but did not offer any comments about where either stand. I gave my two cents worth and made sure they tallied me in the right column! My dear hubby called a bunch of senators at work and was able to talk to them, too. He faxes my letters, and I will be emailing when I am done here! LET'S GO GET 'EM!! Betty

Following is response I received from Senator Clinton:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Horse Slaughter Prevention Act .

As you may know, in 2005 I voted with 69 of my colleagues in favor of an amendment to the Fiscal Year 06 Agriculture Appropriations bill that prohibited the use of federal funds to support horse slaughter under the Federal Meat Inspection Act . This amendment was signed into law in November of 2005.

In 2006, I am working to pass a broader ban on the slaughter of horses. On September 7 th , 2006, the United States House of Representatives passed H.R. 503 , American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, by a vote of 263-146. I am a cosponsor of the Senate version of this bill, which is now on the calendar awaiting action by the full Senate. I recently joined a number of my Senate colleagues in signing a letter to the Senate leadership requesting this legislation be moved to the Senate floor for a vote without delay to put an end to the practice of slaughtering American horses for human consumption overseas. I believe it is vital that this bipartisan, common sense legislation be enacted as soon as possible.

Thank you again for sharing your concerns with me . Please check my website at http://clinton.senate.gov or updates on this and other issues being discussed before the United States Senate .

Sincerely,

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton

If the Representative is exhausted , he can go to the cafeteria maintained for them at taxpayer cost where he gets meals almost free, or go to the barbarshop and get an almost free haircut at taxpayer expense, etc. , etc. I use to know a bunch of these freebies but have forgotten , but believe me , they are there.

Are we all ready to call again today. Lets do it and make it count. I hope we tie up their systems totally until they notice ! !

FsOB: Happy Call-In Day...

HERE'S A REPOST OF THE LIST, WITH FRIST'S NUMBER CORRECTED.

THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!

Here is the most effective way to take action during this crucial and very critical two-week period beginning on Monday, December 4, 2006:

Contact both of your U.S. Senators and ask them to please urge the Senate leadership to deal with this issue before adjournment.

ALSO… Please contact:
Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist (TN)
(202) 224-3135
Fax: (202) 228-1264

Senate Minority Leader, Harry Reid (NV)
(202) 224-3542
Fax: (202) 224-7327

Senate Majority Whip, Mitch McConnell (KY)
(202) 224-2541
Fax; (202) 224-2499

In addition, please contact both the Republican & Democratic sponsors of S.1915 and ask them to please work to get this to the floor before adjournment:
Senator John Ensign (R-NV)
(202) 224-6244
Fax: (202) 228-2193

Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA)
(202) 224-5824;

Congresswoman and incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
(202) 225-4965
Fax: (202) 225-8259; Email: sf.nancy@mail.house.gov

PLEASE START MAKING THESE CALLS IMMEDIATELY....WE CAN'T BE SURE HOW LONG CONGRESS WILL BE IN SESSION....IT'S VERY POSSIBLE THAT WE MAY ONLY HAVE THIS WEEK!!!!

When will we know if we have picked up, new senators who have cosponsor S1915?

Posted by: Debbie L.A. at December 5, 2006 2:10 PM

I saw the piece on GMA this morning too. They commented that because the Congress had only met a total of 2 months this year, they had passed very little legislation, only 2 of 11 spending bills were passed. It may be an interesting angle to encourage the Congresspeople to bring this to a vote and pass it, just to show that this session of Congress has accomplished something. They will only be meeting for 4 days in December, then the new Congress will be sworn in.

Good Morning Everyone:

Hoping to hear good news on Barbaro

CURRENT LIST OF COSPONSORS

My heart is so broken seeing these pictures of horses and all animals suffering...If only the Senate who see these that stare in front of their eyes...like we know that goes on.

We are truly animal lovers...the others who own animals need to take responsibility and do not have them...

Like the horses they resuced yesterday and the lady did not have enough feed, etc for them...RESPONSIBILTY!!!!!

You can go to this shortcut for the most current list of co-sponsors. When a senator agrees to co-sponsor, the paperwork takes about one day for their name to appear on this list.

There is a very excellent story today [on Tim Wooley Racing]I thought was intresting, so I did some additional research and came up with a wonderfully, warm. "Nag to Riches Story".

* Takeover on target for an international 'quaddie'

THE around-the-world ride with Takeover Target picks up pace at Sha Tin tomorrow when the Australian sprinter has his final hard hitout before Sunday's group 1 Hong Kong Sprint.

Takeover Target, who has taken knockabout trainer Joe Janiak from a caravan at Queanbeyan racecourse to fame and fortune and given young jockey Jay Ford international success, will race over 1200 metres for a $1.14 million first prize, plus a $1.3 million bonus awarded to the winner of races in all four countries of the Global Sprint Challenge, provided there is a group 1 in three of them.

Having won at home,[Australlia], in England and in Japan — with group 1s in the Lightning at Flemington and the Sprinters in Japan — Takeover Target has Janiak confident he can win again. Bookmakers in Australia agree and have him $2.50 favourite.

"The horse is fine. There have been no problems at all," Janiak said from Sha Tin yesterday. "He'll sprint on the grass on Wednesday and Jay'll be here to ride him. He gets in tomorrow afternoon."

[History of Takeover Target]
From nag to riches, Aust horse tries England's big race

Thoroughbred racing has a reputation as a sport dominated by the rich and subsidised by the mug punter.

But every now and again you hear the story of a horse like Takeover Target.

This one involves a New South Wales taxi driver and part-time horse trainer, Joe Janiak.

Janiak bought Takeover Target as a broken-down nag for $1,250. Then from his caravan on Queanbeyan Racecourse near Canberra, he transformed his equine bargain into a million-dollar winner.

Soon, the Queen will be watching as Takeover Target runs at England's Royal Ascot Racecourse.

Daniel Hoare has this rags-to-riches tale.

DANIEL HOARE: The racetrack has long been known as a venue frequented by raconteurs and spivs, the perfect forum for a tall tale or two.

But the story of Joe Janiak is no tall tale. When Janiak purchased the horse, Takeover Target, he was working a part-time trainer at Queanbeyan Racecourse near Canberra. His real job was as a taxi driver.

Janiak purchased Takeover Target at a cast-off sale, or a sale for horses that no one else wants.

He outlaid $1,375 for the horse, which included the 10 per cent GST. But at the time he thought he might have been ripped off.

JOE JANIAK: I looked at quite a few that day and didn't like… there were certain things that I didn't like about them, and I couldn't find too much wrong with this bloke.

And after we bought him, till I went to pay up and the bloke that knew all about them told me he'd never race again because he was broken down in the knees.

So I thought to myself, "Gee, I've made a bad selection here."

DANIEL HOARE: Janiak recalls that at the time he purchased Takeover Target in 2004, he knew he would need a bit of luck to win a race with him.

JOE JANIAK: I got my vet to have a look at him and he went through his past history and found out all the operations he had.

He said "Just keep your fingers crossed," he said. "Nothing we can do," he said. He's had all the operations he can possibly have," he said. "If they don't work," he said, "he won't race. It's as simple as that."

DANIEL HOARE: Joe Janiak patiently prepared Takeover Target for a stint at the racetrack.

And after he won his first six starts in the country, he decided to take him to Melbourne's Flemington Racecourse, where he won his first big race.

Takeover Target has a habit of winning. His record now stands at 10 wins from 15 starts.

But it wasn't until Saturday at Flemington Racecourse that Takeover Target had his chance to stamp himself as the best sprinter in the land in the Group one Lightning Stakes.

COMMENTATOR: Takeover Target in front, God's Own coming at him, but the favourite wins it, Takeover Target a neck to God's Own.

DANIEL HOARE: Saturday's win catapulted Takeover Target's winnings past the million-dollar mark. And it grabbed the attention of many racing fans, and not just those in Australia.

NICK SMITH: The way he was kicking away again at the end of the Lightning Stakes on Saturday certainly indicates that he won with a lot more in hand than the length winning distance might suggest.

DANIEL HOARE: Nick Smith is from the United Kingdom's Royal Ascot Racecourse, which each year hosts its prestigious annual racing carnival.

Smith was in Melbourne on Saturday to see Janiak's flying machine firsthand at Flemington racecourse. And immediately after the win he extended an invitation to Janiak to try his luck at England's famous carnival in June.

NICK SMITH: There's no question that he's well up to standard and well up to standard by a considerable way. We think that if he gets over, he settles in okay, you know, he'd be automatic favourite right now.

DANIEL HOARE: Nick Smith says the Royal Ascot Carnival rivals the Melbourne Cup carnival as the biggest racing event in the world.

NICK SMITH: It's attended by the Royal family every day, the pageantry that goes with it is, there's no show on earth like it.

I mean, I know the Melbourne Cup and the Spring Carnival is a huge, huge event, and I'm certainly not going to say that one is better than the other, but I think as the two great racing events in the world it's Royal Ascot and the Spring Carnival.

DANIEL HOARE: After a few more races in Australia, Joe Janiak will fly to Britain with Takeover Target and race against the world's best.

Only one Australian horse has been able to win the sprint double that Takeover Target will be prepared for. That was in 2003 and the horse was Choisir, who was trained at Newcastle by Paul Perry.

Royal Ascot's Nick Smith says British racegoers will delight in seeing Janiak's sprinting champion take out one of the world's biggest races.

NICK SMITH: We love an underdog. I mean, it doesn't matter if it's an Aussie underdog or not, we love an underdog.

And here's this guy who's going to turn up to Royal Ascot, as you rightly say probably having never been too far outside of his own jurisdictions before, and there he's going to be with probably the favourites of the biggest sprint race in Europe, in front of a crowd of 80,000 people. So, good luck to him.

I had a conversation with a very sweet aide in Sen. Durbin's office. She invited me to the weekly coffee and donuts meeting in DC.

I told her I was aware of it, and how I learned about it, which gave me a chance to tell her about the response I got about Israel and the Gaza Strip. She told me that ALL emails are read, there are specific people for that job, and that "not very often" but sometimes they send the wrong response".

I told her about the response I sent back to him, and that part of my letter said "I can see you have put a great deal of thought into the Israel issue" She cut in, laughing, and said "Yes, but what about MY issue"? We both laughed and I told her that she had basically said the same thing I did in my response.

She was very sweet and we were laughing together about the incorrect response. She did say that Sen. Durbin is getting reports of ALL comments and a compete tally as well.

Susan E, sorry your Felix isn't eating. An old remedy is to take a whole chicken, simmer it in a pot covered with water. I use spring water and free range chicken. When it's well cooked, offer warm bits, and broth if he'll eat it. If he's going to eat, he'll likely eat the chicken.

I learned this from an old fellow at a feed store. He'd saved an old kitty a few times that year with the chicken cure. I tried it with my dog, who couldn't lift his head, let alone eat, with a severe respiratory infection following a stroke. It worked! He walked again, too.

There is also food in a tube, like a toothpaste tube, high nutrition meat flavored, you can get at a vet or good pet supply store. You offer that on your finger.

Good luck & God bless!

FOR JULIE L & Everyone ...

Julie ... I just read this post from you on yesterday's page:

#####

Linnie,

I apologize for my comment about the SI award...I meant to merely point out that I had never heard of the winner but I have surely heard of Barbaro. I guess it came out wrong as my comments sometimes do.

I guess I am just a poor sport! :-)

####################3

Julie, there is no need for you or anyone else to apologize as my post was not directed to any one individual. It was a general statement based on the group of posts I had read from those who didn't know who Dwyane Wade was and why he had won the award over Barbaro.

To be perfectly frank, I didn't know who Dwyane Wade was either until watching the Miami Heat in the playoffs and then Finals but I certainly knew who he was afterward! Besides being an incredibly talented basketballer and team player, he is also a wonderful role model and respected young man. I just wanted to make some people here aware of who this young man is.

My personal choice was Barbaro, of course, and I was rooting for him to win more than anything, and I was disappointed when he did not win, but that took nothing away from the fact that Dwyane Wade was a deserving recipient of this award. I don't know if S.I. has ever awarded Sportsman of the Year to any non-human creature, and maybe that's just a policy they have but he was a candidate, so that says something about how he was revered and considered to win this award.

As for Secretariat ... I do know that he was named "TIME" magazine's "Man of the Year" ... so a horse did win that coveted title from "TIME!!"

He was talking about how the House and Senate used to work together, blaming the Republicans for changing that. Talking about how much time they don't have this year. Then he said "Before we leave THIS WEEK".

Right now Sen. Durbin is talking about how FEW days Congress worked and how things haven't gotten done. He made a comment, which I can't quote exactly, that was to the effect of "would someone who worked a full time job get paid in full for only working 100 days. He also said something about Congress raised their own pay, but not the minimum wage.

Posted by: Cora-IL at December 5, 2006 5:34 PM

Sen. Durbin is saying "will this Republican Congress finish its work before it adjourns. Probably not".

Now he's pointing fingers at them regarding the Fed. Deficit.

Hi all...I've been lurking but also calling, faxing and emailing...

McConnell's office had me on hold a long time, then wanted my name (spelled it) and address. I told him I live in CT but it's a national issue and I know he is an important factor in getting things done (yadda yadda yadda), and that I used to live in KY (true).

At least when I call Frist I am no longer getting shuttled into VM. The aide sounded like she was pretty used to recording calls on this issue, at least that's what it sounded like to me.

Ensign's office (Scott) says, please call your own senators, too. Told him I do, each day, and they are both cosponsors.

Landrieu's aide didn't think she was speaking today and didn't think there was an agriculture bill being discussed at 2pm. I think Conrad was the guy who was holding things up the last time the Senate convened because he hadn't gotten relief passed for the farmers in N.Dakota. I hope they give him what he wants today so Landrieu can get her time (if her aide was wrong).

And I must thank Mrs. Jackson for her faithful reporting on Barbaro and for Alex still keeping us posted. I'll miss you all, you are so eloquent and passionate.

## Working from home to take care of Nala and watching CSPAN, Senator Durbin just talked for 10 minutes about how he wonders why this lazy, non-working Congress should expect to get a paycheck when they have worked the equivalent of 2 days a week and have got nothing done. Said senate leadership has decided to only work until Friday. Frist said Ag bill is on the schedule starting at 2PM. Hope Senator Landrieu gets to speak as scheduled.

All senators aides have said they have got tons of calls, Senator Cochran's girl said "hundreds."
Senator McCains' girl who I talk to once a week said they are making progess as he signed Landrieu's letter yesterday.

Prayers for Opie and hope Felix improves.

Everyone keep calling and stay positive for Barbaro and all his equine friends.

ACN - loved hearing how Barbaro got up to greet his mama, who tried to let him sleep.

Alex - seven layers is just about right! Love that image.

Have read nothing yet but up top. Trust all is peaceful and well.

Have made all calls, and emailed loads of contacts, especially in Illinois, where both the Senators (Durbin & Obama) are still holding out. My Indiana Sen Lugar is still "undecided" and Sen Bayh is a staunch supporter.

Also Nancy Pelosi's aide seemed knowledgeable re the utter logic of why to bring this whole issue to a close this session.

I have been telling my contacts the "gantze megillah" (phonetic - sp?) - Yiddische for "the whole story" - of the instructions from Fans of Barbaro re who to call, including Rep. Pelosi - and asking them to please forward to all their contacts.

Many thanks to those who pass the instructions on to us here - so we can pass it on as well, to another and another and another, etc. The Barbaro Effect in progress, folks.

As promised, I wore my anti-slaughter T-shirt (THANKS, ERNIE) on stage all night last night, sang lots of horse songs, got many inquiries, people gave me their emails for me to send them the numbers to call. MANY VOICES.

Keep it up, the end is in view.

And we do it all . . . . for Barbaro - a continuing living breathing miracle in progress. WHATTA GOOD BOY!

Thank to you and Mrs. Jackson for keeping us updated. I guess our cold front here in deep So. TX, with a low of 49 degrees sounds pretty good to you all at Fair Hill! Do the horses wear blankets, leg wraprs, etc. in the cold weather?

Bobby
Stay warm and happy. I am thankful everyday for you miraculous recovery, and continue to pray believing and expecting that there will be continued good reports on you.

Heard on the news this morning that this group of senators have worked less than any since 1948! That they will probably only work a total of 4 days this month. How can they possibly get everything covered???!!! I'm off to Florida Thursday afternoon, to babysit grandbabies, so I'm very busy getting everything ready for a sub at school, BUT I will try to call senators one more time before I leave.

Jane in CT - I don't know why your statement about Barbaro made me really stop and think today. Barbaro is such an inspiration - his spirit is so far reaching, it does feel like he is "my" horse, or "our" horse - but I really thought about that just now - and it became so clear to me. Barbaro is Gretchen's horse! I don't just mean she "owns" him. She saved him that day at the track, she has been with him in mind, heart and spirit every day since - she blesses and loves him - every day, no matter what is going on in her life. And the most telling of all in my opinion, and shows the depth of her love (besides that blue plastic bag filled with Lael grass) - she is willing to give him to "us" to share in his Magnificent Spirit - to allow us to enjoy and love him - to give him up if it comes to that.

I know (and I believe he knows) how much we all love him - but I really believe at the heart level, Barbaro will always be Gretchen's horse.

Love, Light and Protection for Barbaro

For those of you who don't visit TWF:

I'm compiling a list of email addresses. If you would like to be added, please email me with your name and email address. I will post the 'master' list here and on TWF on Thursday.

I'm also trying to keep up with any/all new sites that have been created. Please contact me with any information you have regarding the new sites. I'll add them to the bottom of the email listing.

Hopefully, these lists will make it much easier for us to find each other after Alex shuts us down.

Thanks,

Joyce Moore

It's so great that you are using your fan base to spread the word about S. 1915!

Mary S and Jane in CT

You are both so right and that is why is is OK with me that Mrs. Jackson takes him home to Lael to live out his life.

He does not need to be on display for me. I mean it would be super if I could touch him some day. But if I don't I want what is best for him and you never go wrong being at HOME with your Mom. No one will ever love him like Mrs. Jackson. THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME!

So grateful to Alex and Mrs./Mr. Jackson for the daily updates on Barbaro, and taking the time from their busy schedules to do this for us! ACN, yeah Barbaro!!

RE S.1915 calls:

Got through to an aide in Frist's office by calling the first number Shelley posted on her list, (202) 224-3344--he was polite and thanked me for asking Frist to move S.1915 to the floor quickly for a vote. When I saw Pamela's post asking us to call (202) 224-3135 instead, I did that , too, got Frist's personal line and a female aide who sounded very annoyed and said she would transfer me to his "comment line" which was an answering machine to leave my recorded comment. The point being, I think the original number is a more effective one!

I got a live aide at all other senate offices on the list, except Reid's, which was busy. Called right back and got a recording which asked me to leave a message. "Scott" in Sen. Ensign's office told me "It's all up to the Senate Majority Leader (Frist)now to get it to the floor for a vote. We're bringing as much pressure to bear on him as we can and have gotten some more co-sponsors, but still call your own senators again and ask them to co-sponsor this bill." Neither of mine (Ohio) have done so yet, tho' their offices say they've gotten "lots of calls." So, what does it take, anyway??!! Even more calls, apparently.

Good afternoon all:
Last night I got a call from a fellow FOB asking if I would call Senator Hutchison's (Tx) aide who is handling S.1915. I asked if he or the senator had any concerns. The first: what are you going to do with the saved horses? Easy answer! Second: eliminating the horse slaughtering i
