    Barbaro Updates: 247

    updates are now here.

Update 1701: Steve Haskin provides his assessment of the Florida Derby: Kentucky Derby Trail: Make Room For Daddy, it can be summarized in this paragraph:

Now come the questions: would Chelokee have won with a clean trip? How strong was this race in general? The feeling here is that Chelokee very well could have gotten second, but Scat Daddy just looked too strong and is too classy a horse. As for the strength of the race, it is unwise to judge the quality of a grade I field immediately after the race. Just ask all those who tossed out every horse coming out of the 2005 Santa Anita Derby. What you can do is look at the fifth-place finish by Boogie Boggs, who was coming off only three career starts, all sprints and no stakes, yet was beaten only 4 1/4 lengths. Boogie Boggs has shown potential and could be a good horse in the making, so you'll have to judge for yourself whether his performance here was any reflection of the quality of the field.

Update 1700: Tim's Who's Happy broke her maiden this afternoon, the sixth race at Philadelphia Park. Tim was convinced she would run well when he stretched her out, and he was right. Victor Molina gave her a tremendous ride. She sat back off the early pace, which was inevitably fast. He made a run at the half mile pole and kept at her throughout to just get herself in front where it counted. A great win, congratulations to Fiasco Farm. Tim was washing her off when I called him.

Update 1699: Hard Spun's next race is not yet decided: Hard Spun's schedule still a work in progress, excerpt:

"I'm a little concerned with the Oaklawn deal," Jones said. "I feel like it could be an issue.. What I've seen of my horse, I think he's going to like Pimlico and Belmont Park" - home of the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, the second and third legs of the Triple Crown - "but Churchill, they have so much clay in it and it gets a little cuppy. After [next] Tuesday, we'll have a lot better idea. You can read into that what you want."

Read it this way: Jones, who is based at Delaware Park, is certainly covering his bases. If he decides Hard Spun isn't taking to Churchill, he'll be talking to owner Rick Porter of Wilmington, who confirmed that they've been discussing all their options and want to give their horse the best chance to win a Triple Crown race.

Update 1698: A little foggy this morning but decent weather nonetheless at Fair Hill. I had six to ride, very much the same morning as yesterday morning. Hawty Creek went out first, and we went across the fields out back. I could not see as well (fog) but we found our way around. I cantered her up a hill a couple of times, she felt great. We also entered her for a race on saturday at Philadelphia Park, so I hope they use the race (we will know later this afternoon).

The two I rode for Tim were Nonpariel and Gator Nation. Nonpariel galloped a mile and a half on the dirt track in company with Tim on Quick Quest. I was about a length in front most of the way and they both went well. Gator Nation jogged two miles again, typical training after a race. I then had one more to go out back, and then two more to the track, which both jogged a couple of miles. One of those is the one who dumped me the other day, he seems to be settling in much better now ... I am hopeful of not getting dumped again. My leg continues to improve.

Another successful rescue by Fans of Barbaro, this time in Europe: XXURGENT!! 2 Friesans +3 others dieTUE!. Fans of Barbaro also supported the successful repatriation of Wallenda: WALLENDA IS ALMOST HOME!, along with Dogwood Stable and many others.

Update 1697: NoBiz is coming up to the Wood Memorial with a more serious work regiment and will have blinkers added, the hope is this will increase his focus. He faces a very tough challenger in Circular Quay. Many people think Circular Quay is Todd Pletcher's best chance at a Derby win. This should be another very good Derby prep: Nobiz Like Shobiz a work in progress

The Keeneland meet opens friday, and many Derby contenders are planning to use Keeneland for their final preparations (update 1696 for example). Stall applications appear to be up, much of the increased interest in Keeneland is being attributed to the Polytrack: Keeneland unveils new website, gears up for spring meet.

Good morning, Barbaro! Good morning, Alex! Good morning, fellow Fans!

We're back to winter in Maine this morning with white ground and wet roads. Ah, love it!

Susan E. - Thanks for the welcome back yesterday and a big purr and "Hi" to Lizzie.

Between the NTRA ads during the Dubai coverage on Saturday and reading the article in Smithsonian on Sunday, I find myself missing the Big Bay One more than ever. I can only imagine the hopeful lives his connections were living last year at this time. But now there is hope, too....Hope that there will be a prevention/cure for laminitis. Hope that the slaughterhouses will be put out of business and all horses will be safe. Hope that the tracks will do the right thing to lessen the heavy toll taken on thoroughbreds' bodies. This is my hope, too. This is why I keep calling and donating.

A thousand horse and none to ride! -
With flowing tail, and flying mane,
Wide nostrils never stretched by pain,
Mouths bloodless to the bit or rein,
And feet that iron never shod,
And flanks unscarred by spur or rod,
A thousand horse, the wild, the free,
Like waves that follow o'er the sea,
    Came thickly thundering on,...

Hiya, FsOB, on a cold and dreary day on the banks of the Thames. Ms. Nikita is curled up in a "Husk-ball" on her rug in the great room. She hasn't budged this AM! I am glad that Leslie will be able to add Nikita's picture to the banner for 04/29 so that you may all see the horse-loving Husky.

    #### To Susan E.: Oh, yes, I remember Chevy Chase doing the news on SNL and reminding everyone about Generalissimo Franco's "health status"! I thought for sure that the full moon would bring Rosie to foal.

Good morning everyone, and thank you again Alex and Tim--for all you do for us, and for the horses.

    ###
I remember when I "got it"--I was about four and my mother had taken me to town. I saw several dogs and said I wanted to pet them, but my mother said no. They were strange dogs and I was to leave them alone.

One of the dogs came over and stood next to me and I petted him. Mother saw what happened and didn't freak out (her usual m.o., bless her heart), and I remember how nice it was that the dog came over to say hello.

    ###
I feel very sorry for people who don't "get it." They are really missing a lot.

More to be pitied than censured, for sure.

    Have a good day, everyone!

Good Morning Alex, Tim, FOB's and sweet beloved
    Barbaro in Equine Heaven.

Watching the Dubai World Cup and seeing the ads for the Barbaro Memorial Fund with Dr. Richardson walking him really made me miss Barbaro. I think I cried every time I saw it.

Invasor was so impressive at Dubai. What a talented horse and a beauty too. Strange that Discreet Cat came in last. Hope he's not sick.

It's a gloomy, rainy day here in Michigan. Supposed to get down to the 30's and perhaps snow for Easter.

Hope and pray Rosie has her foal soon and that all will be well with both.

Hope everyone has a great day. Prayers and blessings to all.

I am glad that I have people I can talk to that do "get it". Man why are people so lame......

    Good Morning Fob’s

While we are all celebrating the closing of the slaughter houses in this county we must remember the urgency of getting this legislation passed NOW!!

There are no better words that we can use than this statement from John Holland…….
“If we do not act aggressively to get the AHSPA passed in the coming months we may see our horses subject to even more brutal trips and more cruel slaughter(especially in Mexico). We have won another crucial battle, but not the war. It remains to be seen how much fight the pro-slaughter forces still have left, but to date they have come back time and time again like Hollywood monsters that just won't die. The battle is costing them a fortune and their outlook is increasingly bleak. Still, these people cannot be underestimated.”
    John Holland

PLEASE…everyone, we MUST act now. As you read this, countless horses are on their way to Mexico and Canada. American horses are still being slaughtered! Call your legislators today and let them know that this will no longer be tolerated. We have a better chance of being heard now that these slaughterhouses are closed…….we must make our voices heard before they find the “loopholes” and re-open.

Please click on Alex’s link for today’s Call in List. And, remember, this does NOT take the place of calling your OWN congressman and two senators! Beg them to help us.
This atrocity CAN end…..and it can end soon.

Thanks and have a great day

OH STATE LEADER FOR CALL-IN STRATEGY

I hope we can get it rolling in OH.

    "GET IT"

Here is a partial excerpt from Steph April 3, 2007 1:15 am

I decided to try to construct a calling group made up of other FOBs from CA; it worked great, and so far we have nine in our group. Every day, we target three to five Congress people (House/Senate members) from CA, and we all call/fax them. This way, we are pooling our efforts and we make much more of an impact than if each of us was randomly calling on our own. We are really well organized, share our feedback from the aides every day, and are having a good time doing this!

In order to make this a success in other states, we need one person from each state who will volunteer as the "state leader". As the state leader in CA, I email all of the other members nightly (except Friday and Saturday), telling them who we're going to call the next day. I include any information we already have about the Congressperson's position on this issue (gotten from Congressional record and previous feedback from our conversations with their aides), and any other tidbits I feel might be helpful when making calls.
Once you have things up and running, it's
actually pretty easy. Because we've been doing this for a couple of weeks, our group has worked out most of the kinks, which should make it a lot
    easier for everyone else!

I will help any person who wants to be a state leader to set up their individual state program (as the approach will vary from state to state),
and I will assist in any other way they may need me. If you would like to become a state leader or participate in this program as a caller/faxer from
    any state, please email me. We really need everyone's help if we're going to make this work;
let's do it for the horses!

    Important Re-Post

Stephanie and her group have been extremely successful. In just a few weeks they picked up 4 co-sponsors from California. It is a great idea and would be wonderful if others followed her lead. She will be happy to help set it up and work with you.
If we could get groups from every state, that would be awesome. Please contact Stephanie and see if it is something that would work for you. Great way to get involved and make a difference!!

    ADDITIONAL CALL-IN STRATEGY

    Hi Everyone!
I devised a state level call-in strategy about a month ago, and myself and my wonderful group of callers/faxers (Cathy, Marilyn, Julie, Lisa, Dawn, Kathleen, Nancy, and Lori) have been using it for about three weeks. We have had some really great results, so ShelleyA has asked me to write this post to explain the program. Shelley would like to expand it to as many other states as possible, because it is geared towards gaining cosponsors in the House and Senate (and we all know that's currently our main goal).

Here's why I came up with this idea:
    * I could tell I was the only person contacting my Rep in the House, and I figured many other people were in the same boat. Also, in large states like CA, there were probably some Reps not getting any calls at all. If the Senators/Reps are not hearing from multiple people on a consistent basis, they won't become cosponsors.
    * I wasn't having any luck getting my friends/family to call/fax with me; I figured I needed to find people who were already committed to this cause.
    * I wanted to contribute more than I was!

Last Wednesday and Friday, when 6 new cosponsors were added nationwide, THREE of them (Hunter, Sanchez, and Watson) came from our state call list of twelve from the House of Representatives. We'd only called each of them once a week for three weeks.

Once you have things up and running, it's actually pretty easy. Because we've been doing this for a couple of weeks, our group has worked out most of the kinks, which should make it a lot
    easier for everyone else!

I will help any person who wants to be a state leader to set up their individual state program (as the approach will vary from state to state), and I will assist in any other way they may need me.

If you would like to become a state leader or participate in this program as a caller/faxer from any state, please email me. We really need everyone's help if we're going to make this work; let's do it for the horses!

Odd. I'm losing my job here. Friday is the last day. Then I pack up and move back near the place of my roots, (PA), but I'll be spending the summer in Delaware. I don't think I can do it by the 29th. But I'm sure gonna try hard.

What a great group of people here.

Thank you for the beautiful "visual" this morning with the verse.

    I miss Barbaro so much...

    Have a good day all.

    Subject: Old Friends Wallenda Update

Wallenda arrived in New York this morning and was transferred to the
quarantine facility in Newburgh. We are told he is doing great and is
    very
rambunctious. He even broke his halter! He'll leave there Wednesday
afternoon and arrive in Kentucky Thursday. He'll go through his next
quarantine phase at Hurstland Farm before coming over to Old Friends.
    We
thank each and every one of you who made this possible with your
    donations,
kind words and support. Please come visit Wallenda and all the Old

Fantastic news about Wallenda! SO wonderful to have one of ours home.

Special thanks to everyone at Old Friends for providing a home and love to these champions. (And my condolences belatedly on the passing of Precisionist. I can't look at the picture of Mr. Bowen with him saying goodbye and not cry.)

Thanks to everyone who made this trip home possible also.

    ### HORSEY FRENS AT THE FENCE!!!

    Good Morning "Famblee":)

I have been away a few days, NOT by choice, but because of an internet access problem...most frustrating!

I did have a VERY wonderful encounter at the fence with my three new 'frens' last Thursday evening:)

Mister and Blackjack saw me and came right on over and each had lots of apple chunks, and lots of 'skritches' and lovings:) Miss Rosie hangs back until the boys 'think' the treats are all gone...(they are cleverly hidden in my pocket) then the boys walk away and here comes Rosie:) She had apples, and lovings...and I whispered to her sweet nothings...sigh...THEN....she let me hold her face in my hands and KISSES ON HER NOSE!!!! I GOT TO PUT KISSES ON HER NOSE:) It was the BEST experience YET....I always wrote Barbaro that I'd put "kisses on yer nose"...and I got to do that with 'my' Rosie:) I LOVED it:)

The rancher was visiting with me at the fence, I found out Rosie and Mister are Missourri Fox Trotters....still don't know about Black Jack...and the rancher told me, "I am very surprised at how "relaxed" Rosie is with you!" I looked at Rosie and thought to myself, 'that's because she knows I GET IT:) PLUS...I've told her alot about our Barbaro:)

I haven't been able to hook up with them since, but carry my apples from frige to car and back to frige....and I KNOW it will happen for me again!

##Harriette...this morning's quote gave me goosebumps! Thanks:)

##Rosemarie...I will call KF in a few minutes:)

    ##AUNTY CHERYL...HI!HI!HI!XXOOXX

##Alex...Glad to read your leg is getting better!
Thank You Alex, for allowing us to gather here together:)

##Laurie H. SO happy to see the tuck-ins...they are soooo soothing:)

##Skyler...How is my sweet 'nephew'...hope you are well, too!

##Nancy Jean...you just 'gotta' find some horseys, girl!!

##Lou Ann...soooooo fun for me to have these experiences:)

I hope you allllll have a WONDERFUL DAY today, I am soooooo glad to be back, able to communicate with you...my "FAMBLEE"

    REPOST

    Good Morning Fob’s

While we are all celebrating the closing of the slaughter houses in this country we must remember the urgency of getting this legislation passed NOW!!

    BARBARO NATION AND FAMBLEE ...

    PLEASE FORGIVE THIS SHAMEFUL INDULGENCE:

    FIRST: REPOST FROM LAST NIGHT:

Can't help it! And BESIDES, if you remember the last time that the Buckeyes and Florida 'clashed', it was Barbaro who took the Dr. Richardson "apple, and everyone thought that Barbaro was picking the winning team in OSU. But, the truth of that story is that Barbaro 'ate' the apple and left the gator bites because he KNEW that the gators would eat that apple up!!!

And it's going to happen again, Ollie!!!!

Posted by: Linnie at April 3, 2007 12:05 AM

    #####################

    AND THEN:

agree completely, Dee ... Barbaro loves apples, he seeds of knowledge and he loves teachers ..

    BUT ... Barbaro 'ain't' stupid either ...

Barbaro respects the thrashing tail of the gator when it comes to winning at all costs, and then Barbaro thrashes his tail in knowing defiance and accepting compliance. But Barbaro WINS!!

Posted by: Linnie at April 3, 2007 12:49 AM
    #################

    AND NOW:

Florida Rolls Past Ohio State for Repeat Title
Oden Scores 25, but Buckeyes Can't Keep Up
    ATLANTA (April 2) -

The Florida Gators took a chomp out of NCAA history with the repeat they simply had to have.

Now they want more. They want to be called one of the best teams of all time.

The Gators made their case Monday night with an 84-75 victory over Ohio State to capture the second straight national championship that was their only reasonable goal this season.

They became the first team to go back-to-back since 1992 and the first ever to repeat with the same starting five.

"I think this team should go down as one of the best teams in college basketball history," coach Billy Donovan said. "Not as the most talented, and not on style points - but because they encompassed what the word 'team' means."

    ...

"We all love each other and we all love playing with each other," Green said. "People made huge sacrifices. They all came back for this and wouldn't have been satisfied without it."

While the debate about the best teams of all time can truly begin, there is no denying that Florida's overall athletic program is the best in the nation.

This win completes a 2007 championship-game sweep of the Buckeyes in the two biggest college sports - men's hoops and football. Florida, a 41-14 winner in the football title game in January, remains the only program in history to hold both championships at the same time.

    ####################

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NCAA CHAMPION FLORIDA GATORS FOR THEIR REPEAT!!! AND CONGRATS TO THE FLORIDA GATORS FOR THEIR 'SWEEP' OF OSU IN FOOTBALL AND NOW BASKETBALL!!!

AND CONGRATULATIONS, MOST OF ALL, TO BARBARO ... HE MADE THE PREDICTION COME TRUE ... HE 'ATE' THAT FORBIDDEN FRUIT, THE APPLE, TO 'SIGNIFY' JUST WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO OSU LAST YEAR IN THE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP!! AND HE WAS SMART ENOUGH NOT TO GO NEAR THOSE 'GATOR BITES' ... SMART HORSE, VERY SMART HORSE!!!

    WOOOOHOOO FLORIDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Harriette--thank you for the Lord Byron.. that is my dream, just as it was stated. It is the dream that your ancestors actually saw--horses running free. Your ancestors respected the horses and all life forms. How much better our country would be if the "newcomers" had learned the same respect.

    ##
Nina--you DID know Barbaro; you knew his heart, and his courage, and your heart just took him in. You did know him. Your love of him is always very evident. No one ought chastise you or anyone else for having love for another being.

    ##
Dee--I want to tell you how much I appreciate your postings. I think about them and remember them afterward. You create a magical world--I always see colors, shiny impressions, aurora borealis, and quietly joyful, peaceful visions. I got my nails done last night, and picked a "jelly bean" type of color--and I thought about your Easter basket writings of late. It was a pleasant voyage into the impressions you create. I don't know how you do it!

    ##
Carol Nichols--It is indeed beautiful here today..wait! Whoops, I swear I just saw the Easter Bunny!

    ####
Prayers and encouragement for those in Congress who support the anti slaughter bill; prayers and good will toward those who may not support it now, but who may be pursuaded. It took a bloody Civil War to end slavery--human beings were thought of as property--they were bought, sold, given as gifts, and treated with great cruelty. It is also taking a battle to end the enslavement of animals by cruel humans. So many warriors, fueled by compassion. God bless the warriors who fight for the helpless.

There is a great TV special coming up, "Horses of Proud Spirit" on PBS. It is about the work of Melanie and Jim Bowles who've rescued more than 120 horses over 15 yrs. Proud Spirit Sanctuary is a 50 acres refuge for 36 horses, mules, donkeys and nine dogs.

In my neck of the woods (northern Cal) it is playing Sat. April 14 at 3:30

If you want to know when it is playing where you are go to:
www.pbs.org/tvschedules/ Just type in your zip code.

It would probably be a great show for our younger folk too. I think this is great that a rescue group is getting this huge coverage. If you care to please give PBS feedback thanks for airing it.

    To Jenn in Wilkes Barre:

I'm sorry people don't understand what's in your heart and mind. First, you are not "infatuated" with Barbaro. That is a completely wrong idea and language on their part. Instead, you love Barbaro for many valid reasons - and are devoted to his life and memory. Big difference!

Barbaro is helping me get through a very hard time right now with my dog. She is strictly confined due to a serious knee surgery. "Outside" people don't help me. They just yap about my "going through this for a dog." Barbaro does help me a great deal day in and day out. He inspires me not to give up when the going gets tough. I can't think of anyone better for inspiration and guidance when it comes to this kind of challenge. Barbaro is a true champion in all sorts of ways. He walked the walk and did everything - even recuperate - in a superb manner.

So, be proud you're a Fan of Barbaro and pay no attention to those who don't get it. I feel sorry for them.

Please keep us posted on every one of your delightful 'meetings' ... your words really do bring a smile to my face and a lightness to my heart!! So very happy for you, Lynne!!

Posted by: Linnie at April 3, 2007 5:00 PM

    Christine,
    You are absolutley correct!!!

Dont let anyone get you down about how you feel about your dog either. Three years ago my giant Lab had serious knee surgery as well and was layed up for three months. My husband and I Never left his side 24 hours a day. We re-arranged work schedules, took time off, took turns at sleeping on the floor and on the couch next to him as he slowly recovered. We cleared out a whole room and made it his hopsital room so that he could hobble outside easier on ground level. We slept in there with him, layed with him watching a little tv, brought him his food and water right to his bed so he did not have to get up...administered his meds and bandages .....EVERYTHING.
This is what responsible pet owners do...this is what people who GET IT do. You should be proud...We are proud of you!!!!

Hay All. Here's another part of the story. Continued from Update #244 March 30 Posted at 5:46 and 5:57...

...But the onyx eyes flashed, for only an instant, and he remembered the rough-edged-hot-blooded-racing-monster who would NOT be headed, and realized how little he really knew about mares. He nickered and thought, "I guess girls can be rough too."

Leetle Trea'sure had been grazing nearby. Several other groups of mares were there as well. The grass was sweet, and there was mint and clover of exquisite juiciness. The Young Prince remembered that you could always rely upon mares to find the most delicious graze.

One of the mares at the outer edge of the group was a tall, lovely grey. The way she held her head and moved her ears in his direction, called his attention directly to her. Her eyes had a familiar glint of onyx. Her silky silver coat gave off an irridescent sheen of cool blue and violet, with pin-points of silver.

The mare looked long at the Young Prince, and he at her. Then she smiled, nodded, and walked away down the hill. She had chosen to keep her heart-song to herself, but her eyes and smile spoke a warm welcome.

In this pleasant company, he heard the singing of many songs. They sang and danced their stories before him, there, on the soft green hillocks above the lake. Although they sang of many things, they seemed to share secrets that he could not understand; but that didn't matter to him. He liked their smell. This was his family, and he was happy.

    ...to be continued.

Missing more time here at TWR while home puter awaits repair. In the meantime, Love to you all. (Missing BARBARO).

    Good day, family -
    ### - Harriette, thank you so much for the Byron quote. Byron is so full of fire and color, and perfect for spring, and warriors.
    ### - Margie, that is so hard. We'll be thinking good thoughts on your behalf, and hoping that all turns out better than expected, and you will be very happy closer to home...and special horses.
    ### - Nancy in CT - I had no idea you were going through a rough patch, as well. You amaze me with your thoughtfulness for others, when things are tough.
    ### - Debbie LA - Thanks, as always, for the racing information.
    ### - Elsa, I want a clubhouse, too! Possibly a treehouse clubhouse! But we'll have to settle for our Barbaro-gardens!
    ### - Bonnie MacRaith, Thank you for the information on the PBS program on Proud Spirit Rescue.
    ### - Lynne Brown - I am so glad you're having such a good time with your new "frens" and their person. Nose kisses indeed! Methinks I see the birth of a horse person!

Thanks to all who work so tirelessly on behalf of the horses. You are an inspiration to all of us.

Love and comfort to all in need, four-legged and two-legged, and have a Barbaro day, courage and kindness.

Horses dumping us - be careful everyone, (Alex). A few years back I ended up hanging upside down under the horse, tangled up in God knows what, while the horse stood there looking at me as if to say, "Look at this nut". If there had been other horses around,I just know they would have been laughing. No one was hurt.

Rosie still looks as preggers as ever. Someone took her out of her stall for a bit and while she was gone, someone was standing in front of the camera holding up a tiny foal halter. Rosie is back now and just standing quietly in the corner of her stall....UPDATE while I am typing this someone is now back in her stall with her, looks like putting a halter on her. Not 100% sure as Rosie had her backside to the camera.

Stephanie, great idea to organize the states for contacting reps and senators. Hope we can get a coordinator for each state and glad to see your post last night! Thanks for your hard work.

I am meeting in person with my rep - Tim Mahoney this week at his local office either tomorrow or Friday. He is on the ag committee and has not yet co-sponsored. He is also a new rep and I have had to educate all his aides on the horse slaughter issue so will be bringing alot of reading material to him also.

Still hoping for a miracle for the horses caught in the pipeline.

Very interesting 3 hours of interviews yesterday on AT the Races - basically a few trainers were telling the details of the Dubai races and what
the horses have to go thru between shipping, running under the lights, no lasix, etc. Some never come back the same but Invasor is one who thrives on travel.

A J Jett came to us in 1997. Soon it will be his 10 year anniversary of living on our ranch, and we will have a party. Carrots and sweet grains. A J Jett made good money as a race horse, and when the world record was set for 6 furlongs, A J was the horse who ran second.

Yeah well I was nailed pretty hard. I was called a "child" for the tears that I shed toward Barbaro. I was told "I don't understand how you could cry over a horse you don't know". Then I was told that adults don't EVER act that way and must never ever have tears over stuff like this. I was told in the adult life, there is no room for tears. Only children cry over things like this. Man I was lamb-blasted hard and I am still angry..... Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh... IMO people like that are impossible... Anyone agree????????

High noon in Pahrump and the very pregnant mare dozes on her feet, her stillness broken only by the occasional annoyed switch of a half-braided tail. The sun is directly above the mare, casting her into deep, deep shadow in the corral. Suddenly ominous music is heard...the webcam shows the stealthy approach of a long, dark shadow, its arms at its sides. Is it a rogue gunman, come to challenge the homesteaders at high noon?.....is it the marshal, standing alone against the bad hombres? Is it...Gary Cooper?

....the tension mounts, the music swells, the mare jerks her head in her sleep as the long, dark shadow strides closer and closer to her corral....and climbs under the fence and begins pecking around for grain!

CHINESE COMPANY IDENTIFIED RE: PET FOOD SCANDAL

U.S. blocks wheat gluten linked to pet food recall Tue Apr 3, 2:15 AM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. health officials have told import inspectors to detain wheat gluten shipments from a Chinese company identified as the supplier involved in a major recall of pet food.

A notice from the Food and Drug Administration directed inspectors to stop all wheat gluten imports from Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology Development Company Ltd.

The FDA said wheat gluten supplied by the company to Menu Foods was found to contain melamine, a chemical used in plastics and fertilizers. Menu Foods has recalled 60 million cans and pouches of "cuts-and-gravy" style wet pet food sold under various brands after the deaths of 14 cats and dogs.

Melamine should not be in pet food, but its presence has not been confirmed as the cause of any pet sickness or death, the FDA said on Friday.

In an alert to import inspectors, the FDA told personnel to detain wheat gluten from the Chinese company until it had provided results of an investigation into melamine contamination and other information.

The notice was dated March 30 and posted on the FDA Web site at http://www.fda.gov/ora/fiars/ora_import_ia9926.html.

Other companies besides Menu Foods have recalled pet products because they received wheat gluten from the Chinese company.

Colgate-Palmolive Co. unit Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. recalled its Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry food, while Nestle SA's Purina PetCare Co. recalled Alpo Prime Cuts in Gravy wet dog food with specific date codes.

Del Monte Pet Products recalled certain dog treats and wet food.

FDA officials told reporters on Monday there was no sign that wheat gluten contaminated with melamine has entered the human food chain.

"At this time, we can say there is no evidence" the gluten was used in food products for people," said Michael Rogers (news, bio, voting record) of FDA's Office of Regulatory Affairs.

    FAMBLEE----ANOTHER 'HAPPY HEART' VISIT:)

O.K....High as a Kite, Heart So Full....BIG SMILE on my face....

I stopped just now on my way home...Y E S!!! They were ALL RIGHT THERE:) Mister was practically asleep on the fence line...Rosie and Black Jack in a seperate area, but all three very close to fence:) OH YES:) "LOOK! IT'S THE LADY"...I swear! I can hear them saying those words!!! So, today Mister got first treats....then I side stepped down the fence line to Black Jack...and yes, FsOB...MISS ROSIE:) They all had equal amounts today...and I was able to touch/feel/smell/swoon! Then the treats were gone, so now I just touched/felt/smelled/swooned somemore:) I was softly touching Misters' velvety nose....took his sweet face in my hands and ever so softly gave HIM KISSES ON HIS NOSE:):)

You guys! I KNOW you "horse people" understand...but those of you who are trying to find these amazing creatures to invite them into your hearts....DO NOT give up! They are SO WORTH the wait, I PROMISE! I cannot describe the feeling of warmth, comfort, PEACE I feel when I am so close to them as to kiss their noses...and omGoodness!! When they look into your eyes...it's like they look all the way into your soul! :)

LINNIE....are you reading this? I HOPE so! I am so excited for you at Del Park and want to read every single detail....:) Gosh! It's just too wonderful....I asked Mister today had Barbaro and the View Crew been down to visit? Did you get to meet him? Isn't he just sooooo amazing, Mister? I KNOW you three had tons of FUN with them:)He just kept looking into my eyes, you guys!!!! It was just AMAZING....

So.....that's it for today, unless later on I can manage to be lucky enough again to find them out near the road...by the fence! If I do, you just KNOW I'll be right home to tell you alllll about it!
    LIFE IS GOOD TODAY:)

    Love you allllllllll:)

Dr. Richardson: All the responses from people who understand the human/animal connection, I mean, those are the people that are writing in, those are the people that are following the Barbaro story. The people who don't get that don't get it. Um, I don't... I don't need to *explain* that to the people who get it.

###Sorry, should have been "her" connections regarding Who's Happy.

Posted by: laura in OH at April 3, 2007 8:52 PM

    HI, FOB's!

    ###
Lynne Brown, welcome to the world where horses talk to you. The boys and Wilma at the ranch and the horses at Tim's barn all talk to me (as to others that I pass on any given day.). From my experience, if the horses like and trust you, they'll talk up a storm (if given the chance.). They'll be silent until they trust a person. You are NOT imagining it...it truly is happening with you and it is a joy. I've also communicated with cats, dogs, birds, whales as well - ability is still evolving but its so rewarding. When you do talk with them, tell them everything...they have very sharp minds and NOTHING escapes them. NOTHING...trust me on that one.

Great thing? Alex talks to the horses that he exercises - I've heard him talking to them when I've been at Fair Hill. To me, its very comforting to hear him.

    ###
Have begun a Barbaro scrapbook so people believe me when I talk about TWR. I figure it will be a great teaching tool to help more people "get it" and to help when the grandchildren arrive. Will also start a scrapbook about my son and daughter-in-law and then one about my spiritual path and healing work with the horses at the ranch as well.

    ###
LaurieH, are you OK? Your tuck-ins have had a weary feel to them....e-mail me if you need someone to listen to you.

Congratulations to Who's Happy, Tim and Alex...impressive win and so glad Who's Happy is safe as well as victorious.

Back to the scrapbook...never thought I'd be doing this, but I have to organize everything.

    Take care, everybody!

    Healing, Love, Peace,

    Hello everyone,

Made some more calls today and even got my mom and the neighbor to join in the fun. They're doing it right now, gave my cell to the neighbor lady who's here visiting with mom.

Attn Nebraska FOB's: Ours is a tough state, let's try to do something like what Stephanie is doing in California. Nice job Steph!

Susan E, Cheryl Jones, Linda H: Afleet Alex is sound asleep upstairs, no doubt dreaming of his next "lamp kill". (I have a cat that is jumping on lamps and breaking them)

Aunty Lynne. So happy to hear of your moment with your special frens! There is nothing like a kiss on a velvety nose and yes, they know you "GET IT"! Horses, like all animals, know when people love them, they have feelings and know that you love them dearly. They're very lucky to have you in their life Lynne!

We missed you by the way. No more computer problems OK!

    Great news about Wallenda!

Verna, I hope your sister is continuing to progress well.

And Linnie: Who's Happy will be making a donation to the Laminitis Fund! Congratulations on your win sweetheart and glad you're safe.

Christine - Please tell Gracie the Pitbull that her fren from California, Arigato Marie the Pitmutt, sends her VERY best wishes for a quick recovery. Ari has only had surgery once, but her pet cat, Miss Flora MacDonald, had a dislocated pelvis, and had to hold still FOREVER, (or that was how it felt, anyway!), and so she feels very bad for Miss Gracie.
Thank you for passing along Ari's message to your girl.

    ### More horses in need. A 93 day MISDEAMEANOR charge--let's hope it's at least 93 days PER HORSE--this should be a felony! Of course, they'll never pay a dime in vet care or to find homes for these poor animals.

Officials Impound 69 Horses from Michigan Farm
    by: The Associated Press
    March 30 2007

Police were searching for two men Thursday after finding 69 allegedly malnourished horses on their debris-strewn farm.

Jackson County prosecutors have issued warrants for James Henderson Jr. and Matthew Mercier charging each with animal neglect, a 93-day misdemeanor.

Animal control officials on Wednesday swarmed the property in Grass Lake Township, about 65 miles west of Detroit, finding the horses, including Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds, standing amid piles of trash, rusted auto parts and animal feces. The horses, several of which were visibly malnourished, are being fed a strict diet said Kimberlee Luce, director of the county animal shelter.

"We're keeping them comfortable and doing what we can for them," Luce told the Jackson Citizen Patriot for a story published Thursday. "It's a sad, sad situation."

Luce said the animals cannot be moved to more comfortable surroundings until the men are arraigned. The two were still unaccounted for Thursday evening.

"Our department checked a number of locations in our county on today's date in an attempt to locate the two suspects. It's our understanding that one of the suspects may have left the state on business," sheriff's Sgt. Joseph Quainton told The Associated Press.

The investigation began about two weeks ago after police were notified that some of the horses had gotten loose and left the property. The animals were being kept behind tattered wire fences surrounding the property.

This is such a wonderful conversation today about talking to animals. I always felt like an alien when I was young....still do many days. I have always talked to the animals. I'm not pretending to have the spiritual connections that those who really can "speak" to them have, but I continue to try to develop my connection to all the creatures God has put on this earth.

When I was young and my grandparents would take me camping, I would go sit in the woods alone and wait....the deer always came if I was silent for long enough. And I would talk to them...not out loud because they didn't seem to want that....but silently. They would stay there for a long time, communicating with their eyes. It was the most peaceful experience I can remember.

Of course, I now talk to my cats and dogs, the little armadillo that got stuck in the mud by my house, the feral pigs that tease the dogs when they are safely in the kennel, and most anything else that will hold still long enough, but nothing surpasses the silent conversations in the woods.

I hope to have horses again someday, to talk to them, love them and learn from them. By next year, I think......

LLeslie--I went to the clip, and I'm stumped, too. I've heard it before but don't know name or artist. Because of views of Barbaro, I couldn't take anymore, and shut it off. Sorry!

    ####
Animal communication/interspecies communication: yes, and thank you for bringing it up. Lyn G, I think you broached the subject--I'm glad to see it here. Glad also that others experience it, treasure the experience, and talk about it.

People who think that this kind of communication and sensitivity makes you "certifiable" are among the legions who "don't get it". And who may be afraid to get it! What would the implications be if the creatures that are seen as property, and products to be used/disposed of as commodities--what would the implications be if the FELT; if they THOUGHT; if they wanted to communicate? It would upend things, and people don't like that, especially where money and personal convenience are involved.

It's a long term educational process...times have changed, and will change. The brutality may seem overwhelming/may BE overwhelming, but it is a throwback.

    ##
Nina, hold your head up--you very much get it. And you are right; you don't need to be close with people who don't get it, and who berate you for getting it.

    AFTERNOON REPOST

    Good Morning Fob’s

While we are all celebrating the closing of the slaughter houses in this country we must remember the urgency of getting this legislation passed NOW!!

Maybe Mike Matz is playing opossum and will run Chelokee in the Blue Grass, pick up the needed $$$ for the derby and still make it.. Its 2 weeks between the Florida Derby and the Blue Grass and then 3 weeks till the derby...
its a possiblilty because Chelokee is shipping to Keeneland this week, and will be on the grounds for the Blue Grass, he can be supplemented to run AND biggest of all, the polytrace favors closers big time. Chelokee wouldnt have to win he'll gwet 150k for 2nd or 75k for 3rd..
It will cost the owners 45k to supplement him.

VERY interesting posts! Can animals and humans communicate and bond? Of course. I've never doubted it, even as a small child. We lived in Mobile, AL when I was 3 and I'd slip out into the back yard in the early morning and commune with Middibee, the neighbor's dog, and the little toads and lizards that flourished. I've never doubted that animals have souls. And I think they are sentient.

All it takes to know, to believe, is an open mind and an open heart.

Those who think animals are dumb and unfeeling apparently need to feel that way to justify what they do to them. Karma will get them in the end. Or something, depending on one's beliefs.

    Kay,
I thank Dr. Dean a million times over for saying those simple words about "getting it".
I, too, would be upset and insulted (actually for most of my life, since I have always loved racing and horses and couldn't understand those who didn't, they were like they were from a different planet to me).
But, after Dr. Dean's interview, they don't bother me anymore. After all, I may not get something they do, I just was too selfish (I guess I'll be more understanding of the World Series of Poker ...oh maybe not.)
And the strangest thing is, now that I have my new attitude, everyone I talk to now seems to know Bobby :).

When my dog Pep was ill I did everything I could for her, (but she did pass away)...my employer had the attitude...oh just a dog, then I started asking him if he had any pets..he said No. I said, you have two young boys and they don't have a dog to pal around with?
And he said..."No, it hurts too much when they leave you, just as bad as losing a family member, sometimes worse". Right or wrong, he had hardened his heart by something that had happened to him when he was a boy. Sad for his kids not to grow up with the experience of having a pet, but I learned a lesson that day, too. That there may be more behind that "I don't care" attitude.
Oh, BTW, when my pets have surgery (spayed or dental work for my Roy), they come home to their own bed made out of about three fluffy quilts, pillows, their food and snacks right at paw, I do draw the line at letting them have the remote for the tv).

I saw this race live and sure would like to know if someone could tell me what in the world this horse did in the homestretch. Scared? Confused? Green? Not real bright? Why did he do what he did?

Just pondering and trying to learn horse behavior from you guys...the experts.

    ANOTHER AFTERNOON REPOST

Last Wednesday and Friday, when 6 new cosponsors were added nationwide, THREE of them (Hunter, Sanchez, and Watson) came from our state call list of twelve from the House of Representatives. We'd only called each of them once a week for three weeks.

Lyn G. Thank you for your post about communicating with animals...I have always felt a bond to animals, domestic or other kinds...I think the thing (for me) about animals is, they don't get hung up in human 'stuff'....they are like very young children, they are innocent..but very SMART....and I am extremely thankful that I have had this "get it" thing inside me from when I was very young.

I have always, as an adult, fed birds and squirrels and basically anything warm blooded which moved! I was feeding deer until the herd was getting pretty large and I found out it's illegal to feed them....but for two or three years I gave them apples/bananas/carrots...all kinds of veggies, fruits and from the feed store, Sweet Cobb....six quarts in the mornings and six quarts at night...the babies are kept away from the herd or people until they reach a certain age, then along they come...."boinga boinga boinga" and one afternoon a little one came 'boinga boinging" up almost to the gate in my back yard...stopped, looked right up at me and said, "HI! ARE YOU MY AUNTY LYNNE?" "My Great Grandma told me alllll about you:)" and just as quickly, off it went to eat the treats:)

Those deer knew what time it was, just like Harriette said awhile ago in her post. They slept away from my house, but someone told me every afternoon at 4 O'Clock, they would get up, stretch and come for dinner:) I'd put the Sweet Cobb down on the ground in a long line, then the cut up apples, etc., in a line on top of the grain...they'd wait patiently, one old girl, (the Great Grandma) who I called "old ma-ma", she finally got to where she'd come and begin eating as I was bent down placing the food....she got to where she'd take the cut up bananas from my hands:) They all knew they were safe and loved, and even laid down to sleep alot of the time right outside my back gate:)

I do believe we can communicate with the animals, and I am ever grateful that I'm one of those lucky humans:)

Nina... do these same people think that you shouldn't shed a tear: when a baby is born, when you see the American flag being carried by a solder or draped over a casket, or when you are a part of a parade that welcomes our soldiers home from service.

Maybe that is the part of our society that is messed up. The part that kills for the sake of killing, the part that laughs at handicapped or homeless people, the part that wants to be taken care of but don't take care of others themselves.

Sorry got me started. If we are wrong to cry then I am happy that I am wrong. Just tell them you stood in line several times when tears were passed out. And then give them the raspberry!

    #### JENNY--Great news about the Cavel horses! Do you have a link to a story, perhaps? Any sign of the rest of them!?!

    #### An interesting fact for Jonna and other greyhound fans that visit this site that I ran across: "Relative to body size, the Greyhound heart is not only larger and more efficient than any other dog's, but outperforms that of the Thoroughbred racehorse. During a 30-second run at top speed, a Greyhound's entire blood volume is circulated through the body four to five times."

    Goodnight Barbaro

Look for your star...sweetheart...of course, we know your real love is Gallant Secret...We love and miss you so much. Run painfree, sweetie.

    Goodnight Fans/Family of Barbaro

As always, thank you to all for everyone's hard work. I know Barbaro is so full of love and pride for each of you.

Please remember, as they say, we are still in a fierce battle, horses, going across the border, and they are so brutal. Close your eyes and hear their cries and know we have to work harder than our opponent.

I thought of the Minutemen, and wonder if they could keep a lookout about horses crossing illegally. But with all of you, I know something is going to happen..quick and good.

Remember the rescues, the ones suffering, the spoken and unspoken requests, and Vivi, the missing dog, please be found.

    Everyone have a lovely evening.

    Blessings to All, always.

Yeah I am happy that I am wrong too if this is the case. I don' put an age to tears. Some people think that we shouldn't cry because we are adults. That is the problem here. I am an adult so therefore I should not cry over a horse that I never even knew. I was crazy for doing so and told that I must never ever do it again. Some people just will never "get it".

Barbaro... I will always shed tears for you. They will subside in time and they will come and they will go. When push comes to shove and I am challenged with the hardest of tasks, I will think of you. You have taught me how to withstand getting through a bad day, getting through physical pain, having a good attitude when times are rough. You have and still are teaching me to be strong. To get it done. To not wallo in my own self but to try to understand others. You have taught me things that no human ever has nor ever will. You taught me that it is easy to love. You have taught me that life is special each and every moment. Most of all Barbaro... you have taught me one thing that is the most important of all, and that is to LIVE THE MOMENT. Any one of us could die in any second of any day and you my big buddy have taught me that each and every moment is to be cherished as if it were your last. NO HUMAN has come close to those teachings. Not even the best of them with masters and PhD's and the ones that have been teaching me all my life. I only wish that everyone knew you the way that I do. I wish that everyone could understand and that everyone would "get it". It is sad that so much of humanity is so closed up in a shell. I was told "there is no room for tears for you". Well I am sorry but that was the ultimate statement that is the breaking point here. I am not going to give people like that anything but include them in my prayers of those that need help from God. They will not get another minute of my time because every moment is going to be a special one from now on...... Angel Barbaro.... Love you and I always will... Thank You for being in my life......

DEBBIE L.A. - I couldn't help it! The Divine Ms. E calling Secretariat a nice horse...

Posted by: Christine at April 4, 2007 12:31 AM

Secretariat became a beloved figure with fans and non-fans of horse racing coming to see Big Red at Claiborne farm, where he stood at stud from 1974 through 1989, living in the same stall which was once home to his sire, Bold Ruler. Secretariat sired a substantial number of major stakes winners, including 1986 Horse of the Year Lady's Secret, 1988 Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner Risen Star, and the 1990 Melbourne Cup winner Kingston Rule, who still holds the race record. His "failure"[citation needed] as a stallion was mostly due to his inability to produce offspring as great as he was — an unrealistic expectation, even for a truly great horse. He sired as many as 653 foals during his retirement.

His blood flows through many other notable racehorses, including 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Smarty Jones, and he is most noted as a broodmare sire, being the broodmare sire of 1992 Horse of the Year and successful sire A.P. Indy, Secretariat's grandson through his daughter Weekend Surprise, who was sired by another Triple Crown winner, Seattle Slew. Secretariat is also the dam-sire of the great stallions Storm Cat (by Storm Bird), through his daughter Terlingua, and of Gone West, through his daughter Secrettame.

Check out the pedigrees on the Triple Crown contenders for 2007. Storm Cat, A P Indy, Gone West and others.

Thank you for all the info on the great Secretariat, Debbie. I only wish I had been into horse racing back in the l970's, the way I am now! Even if you weren't tho, NO one who was around back then could escape hearing about him! He was all over the TV, magazine covers, just everywhere. My girlfriend who is from Kentucky got to visit him shortly before he passed away, and how I envy her the experience! I'm just grateful for all the videos of him - that we can watch today. And that Belmont!! I doubt we'll see the likes of him again, in our lifetime. If only we hadn't lost our great Barbaro - I really think he could've done it all!

Yes, Dawn: greyhounds have a heart and lungs the size of a young woman. The average even large dog's heart is the size of a man's fist. and all for the huge demands of the required speeds on today's dog tracks. So much muscle tissue is literally trashed by these demanding times that myoglobin shows up in their urine....after they race, their urine is coffee-colored...that's one of the reasons they do rest more than they race on the tracks. IMHO: anytime we put animals and gambling together, the animals will wind up on the worse side of the outcome. And so many are so young...

    Hi, FOB's!

    Prayers for Dynacielo and connections.

    ###
Socorro, did my (small) part for the baby seals. It never ceases to amaze me how so many animals are sacrificing themselves to show us that we have to stop being cruel to them and to each other. The sacrifices seem to be accelerating because so many people just aren't "getting it". We have to start (or continue) to listen to the animal messengers. We here at TWR, HSUS, Greenpeace (and other wonderful sites) are already listening - its the rest of the world that has to open their eyes and hearts. It will keep happening until the human race takes a good hard, long look at the actions that have been committed.

    ###
To quote a very wise man - "All One". That two-word phrase says it all and I wish with my heart that I had met this wise man while he was still alive. As it is, I chant with someone who knew and loved this wise teacher and the wisdom is passed along at the chant sessions (many thanks, KD. I am so humbled, overjoyed and honored to have met and chanted with you.). I began to get messages from animals starting in January 2006. Its gratifying that people around me (especially here) are understanding what is happening and trying to effect positive, compassionate change.

    ###
Sorry to get on my soapbox. Was discussing this very issue with the boys' owner yesterday (she was able to open up and see what all the animals are trying to tell us.). I've taken a break from writing my guided horse meditation for July's workshop and the meditation is going to be incredible once I fine-tune it. If I get a positive response from the workshop participants in July, I'll look into putting it on CD so people can use horses as meditative guides. They can help us heal ourselves. We all know their wisdom...

    Sorry to ramble on...

Take care, everybody. You are all the greatest.

I offered to email it to her because she is of Indian descent and in her spare time produces paintings with American Indian themes. I thought I could just go back to the Barbaro archive and copy and paste it for her, but, alas, that is not possible. First of all, may I ask your permission to email your chant to her? If you consent, would you mind posting it here for me? Or you can email it to me at jdsun@comcast.net. Thank you. :)

Alex--Please convey my good wishes to Tim, and to Who's Happy; also congratulations to you! SuperAlex, I am so glad that your leg is feeling better. You "young'ns" don't realize how much injuries hurt in later years--take care, and be good to yourself. "If I'd known how long I'd live, I'd have taken better care of myself"...said by almost any person over the age of 50!

    ##
Nina--You are more than welcome! You seem to be a very sensitive person, very much in tune with the natural world. You said that you were born in Germany, and traveled in Asia. The States is wonderful, but not necessarily attuned to The Natural. My son in law is from Europe, and has a more laid back attitude in many ways, while being VERY hard working. It is not an easy adjustment. Keep your connection with the Natural World; accept whatever material well being comes your way here, but do not sell out to it--I feel you will not. There are many of us here who have also been invalidated. We persisted, and found our validation in many ways off the "beaten path"--animal communication, energy healing, just following our guts. Draw your boundaries--you do not have to be aggressive or hostile about it; just be who you are, and withdraw from those whose lesser sensitivity leads them to beat on your psyche. I'm 62 years old, and have been ridiculed. Now I say, "Phooey on you! I know, and you don't!" Some day, you will feel that way too. Life is a journey, and our beloved animals help guide us. Be aware of your totems and messengers, and listen to the quiet voice within.

I tried for two days and couldn't find out what happened to her...it INFURIATES ME - it's like she never existed and wasn't really running that day! Nancy in CT--thank you! I'm sorry, I didn't know Dynacielo was a female. Poor girl. I'm with you--she deserved recognition. She gave her life--her life of running, running, running, for human "enetertainment". She deserved recognition, and sorrow, and mourning. Poor girl.

Your prayers for her lit her way to a better place, Nancy. Thank you again for responding. I was just about to log off and get ready for bed; I'm glad I checked back for "some reason". I usually don't use the internet after 4:30 pm.

God Bless the Horses and all the Animals!

Alex, thank you for another day here at TWR.

I received my Sean Clancy book today. I still cannot believe how easily the tears come just looking at the pictures of Barbaro. I guess I'm a little taken back by how much it all still hurts. I haven't even been able to look at the commemorative edition of the Blood Horse I received weeks ago. I think I'll tuck the Sean Clancy book away with the Blood Horse for a little while. It's all too raw and upsetting. I thought I had moved on, so to speak. Obviously, I was wrong. I miss him so much.

Good night FOBs. I hope you all have a very nice evening.

I love you Barbaro...I always have...I always will.

    The miracle of Barbaro continues...

    RE: Dynacielo
Please don't think that just because it wasn't national news that her connections don't feel sorrow or mourn for her. That isn't fair.

My friend and breeder lost a horse today. No one will hear about Iron Jack either but it doesn't mean that Jeanne is not broken hearted. Believe me, most owners certainly mourn the loss of their beloved horses.

May Dynacielo and Iron Jack rest in peace and find their way to Equine Heaven.

    Sue.........

Thanks.. Yeah without our beautiful animals what would we do???? This world is small yet large as well. There are many cultures and many different attitudes. People would be amazed that have never been to the far east what it is really like there...

I guess that when someone puts us down for whatever (in this case Barbaro) we just need to feel sorry for them because they really don't get it. It is sad but true. I have had some really good responses today about "getting it"....... From now on if I encounter such negtivity about Barbaro... I will simply smile and say "man you just don't get it and that is such a shame" then walk away.......

Love you Barbaro...... WE GET IT!!!!!!! :-)

I, too, have a "deer in the woods story", albeit with a slightly different ending. When I was 19, I worked at an old run-down Pocono "resort" (real stretch to call it that!) during one summer between years of college. The only good thing about the place was the HUGE lake with a three mile path through the woods around it. (Oh the kids I met from MA, NY, NJ, and other parts of PA were great, too! Misery loves company working at a resort in the Poconos!)

Most people would venture about a half mile up the trail, turn around and come back, so if you went even a single mile, you were pretty much alone. Well, me being the budding poet/artist (LOLOLOLOLOL), I would go out there with my sketch pad and a couple drawing pencils waiting for inspiration to strike. But one day while I was sitting near a tiny brook, lost in thought (if not in inspiration), I caught a movement out of the corner of my eye. I moved my head as slowly as I could and there stood a magnificent buck with a huge rack of antlers. What a sight he was!

He must have been about 30 yards away from me. He considered me for a long while; I am certain I looked quite different from the flora and fauna he was used to seeing. But then, step by hesitant step, he moved forward. I was spellbound. I had seen many does growing up in Pennsylvania, but never a buck like this, and never so close to me.

Twenty yards, fifteen yards, TEN YARDS away from me. I slowly stood up. Then with the precision and deliberate movement of a screaming banshee, I started wailing, jumping, and flailing my arms like I had never flailed before. What are you nuts, I know better than to let a buck get that close to me!!!LOLLOLOL

Absolute truth - thank all things holy, he turned and ran so fast that he was gone from sight in a matter of seconds.

BTW, I came home from that summer in the Poconos with a sketch pad absolutely jammed full of, well........NOTHING! Oh, but the memories...

I go thru some major "swings" myself and "take to my bed" from time to time....but my husband and my animals need me to be "part of the family". And I need my paycheck! Nancy in CT,

I went to www.pedigreequery.com to find out about Dynacielo. Just put her name in by horse and hit search and then hover the mouse over the Information symbol next to the name. I tend to go to this site quite often to find out what happened to horses I see or hear about that have been injured. Sadly, all too often the result seems to be the same. I feel like you and many others that it doesn't matter if it's a big name or not, it still upsets me.

Sandie, I totally can identify with your sentiments....I peeked at my copy of Sean Clancy's Book and felt similar heartfelt sadness, missing Big B. Then again, I thought of Sean Clancy being so committed to writing such a Book, and wondered how often he must have shed some tears himself. Gosh, Kleenex is really making a mark on us FOBs....keep the tissues close at hand and I think we'll be alright.

Isn't that cool? I go through that at the
track(s) where I am licensed. I always take treats with me for the horses. There are hundreds of horses but I have my few that are my frends. They all have horsenalities and man they are soooooooooooo easy to hug and talk to....... They are very very smart too... I have one horse that is the biggest show off on the walker that you have ever seen. Alex can probally relate to this..... He walks around and everytime he walks by me he throws his hind legs up and looks at me and neighs..... He is a beautiful 15 hand colt that looks a lot like Slew. His name is Butch.....He is 2 years old and not trained yet. Never been on the track and he doesn't like anyone on his back LOL!!!!!

I am a ginnypig to some. I get stuck getting on horses that are young because I am so light. I have the nerve to do it too and the trainers know it. Just what-ever you do don't ever put a piece of candy in-between your fingers to feed a horse. Always put it in the palm of your hand and let them take it from there. They don't mean to do this but they do and anyone that has had this experience (I am sure a lot of you have) find out the hard way that the horse will not only take the candy they clamp down on your hand too wit their teeth and they are so strong you pretty much have to just take it until THEY decide they are going to let go....... OUCH!!!!!

If it is a big treat like an apple or a carrot or something farely large they it is OK to just put it out there but a small piece of something always always put it in your hand.. If you go there all the time, those horses will quicky know you and they will run accross that pasture just to come and see you...... trust me....:-)

    Cheers and Blessings to all.........

I love you Barbaro from one that truly GETS IT!!!!!!!

I forgot to say this. It will get to the point where you won't have to wonder if they will be by the fence. Just stand there and call them. They will be at the fence :-).......

They probably already know and love you in just the short time you have done this. Horses are very very intelligent creatures. They are soooooooooooooo smart..... I have so many stories about horses that I could go all day but I don't think Alex has the room on the site............They are really really good at intimidation too. They will outsmart you if they think they can and a lot of the time they actually get away with it....... LOL

The good ol pin the ears back to get some attention works wonders...... Now there is a difference between a angry pinned back eared horse and a horse that is pinning his ears back for attention.... or trying to intimidate you. After time, you'll figure it out........ If they pin their ears back, proceed with caution until you get to know the horse........:-)

    Blessings

Hi everyone. I hope this finds everyone well. Sorry for this story's length, I just really wanted to share it with you all.

Not sure why I am up so late, and have been so busy lately, but wanted to post and just fill you guys in on some news about the horse rescue that I have been volunteering at for about a year now, in Barbaro's name, and to honor him and all of those who are fighting to end slaughter and make racing and horses' lives safer. I am learning and loving it all.

I should have posted this when it happened but it hurt and I'm still getting over it, and not to dampen anyone's spirits, but I grew very fond of Blossom, who was just over a year old and who's mother was rescued by the farm and they didn't know that she was pregnant at the time, but Blossom ended up being born on the rescue, which was a nice story. Well, me being not used to being around horses until last year wasn't allowed to handle her too much as she was really frisky and a bit unpredictable. They rate their horses their 1-4, 4 needing experienced handlers - not that they are necessarily "onery", just that they can be unpredictable at times.

Well, me, being who I am, loves a challenge and when it came the time to choose who I would work with this spring, I chose her. They hesitated, but said they would let me try because I felt strongly about it.

I feed on Saturdays and groom and do barn chores, so I go out there once a week usually, but in almost a year's time, I bonded with her, and she always would run up to her barn gate window and stick her head out when I entered the barn and she'd put her head on my shoulder and nudge me a little as I pet her. I would always give her an apple or two when I left too (figured that couldn't hurt the "making her love me" process hehe).

Well, I opened my email one Friday a few weeks ago and her name was in the subject. Immediately I thought, oh, someone has adopted her, aww I won't be able to see her. Unfortunately, she had a bladder condition they didn't know about and was colic'ing and they rushed her to the animal hospital and performed emergency surgery on her and tried everything to save her, but she had to be euthanized. I was so upset and in disbelief.

I went out there the next day as I always do and it was hard to see her empty stall. She was in there with another horse but they moved him to another stall. I had to put fresh water in the stall and was in tears as I was in there. It was surely a solemn day that day and when I left and was pretty upset, to say the least. I wasn't about to relinquish my commitment to the rescue or the other horses though. They all need love and care.

She's the first horse that I had personal contact with that I loved so dearly and had that "connection" with. I was looking into adopting her too, once I learned more, but I would have had to find a place to board her, which I would have as long as I felt I could properly take care of her and know all I needed to know.

I was happy that I got to spend the time that I could with her, but it still hurts to lose her. I know she's up there with Barbaro and Lost in the Fog though, running wild and free. And that gives me comfort to know that.

Thank you all for reading this, sorry for its length.

Not to throw this in at the end, or make it seem as a side note, but my grandfather has been cured of his esophageal cancer, which is a miracle. Early on the prognosis wasn't very good and the chemo and radiation were hard on him, but he is doing much better. Thank you for your prayers for him.

Love and Prayers for everyone, and Barbaro, your spirit lives on in all of us. May we finish for you what you started.

Hello Ryan! Big FOB (((hugs))) to you, and I am so profoundly sorry about Blossom. My heart went to Heaven with Barbaro and I can only imagine how your heart must be breaking.
You certainly came to the right place - there is so much love and comfort here. I believe I remember you from posting previously.

Blossom does know how very much you loved her and I believe she will remain with you in spirit. Yes, I'm sure she's up there running free with The Big Boss Horse, our beloved Barbaro himself, but it's still so hard for us down here.
Please hang in there, okay. . .
And Ryan, no one will ever replace Blossom - nor should they, but I hope you will continue at the rescue because I believe Blossom would want you to help another equine friend.
Please let us know how you are doing.
Wonderful news about your grandfather!! Miracles do happen!
And this FOB will be remembering Blossom and your grandfather in my prayers . . .
    Thank you for sharing!
