    Barbaro Updates: 275

    updates are now here.

Update 1867: Some great pictures of our Barbaro celebrations on UPenn's site: Barbaro's Birthday Photos

Update 1866: A great summary of our weekend events at Delaware Park: Barbaro: Celebration for an Undefeated Champion: Hundreds Gather to Remember Brave Derby Winner's Birth. The Barbaro legacy has hit TV ratings too: Barbaro's legacy: Derby ratings are up Kentucky race pulls best ratings in 15 years. The latter article also talks about FOBs!

Update 1865: Steve Haskin provides a comprehensive review fo the Derby and the people behind the horses: Steve Haskin's Derby Recap: No Nonsense.

Update 1864: A chilly start to a gorgeous morning this morning. I had three to ride, all for Tim. First was Who's Happy, who jogged two miles again on the dirt, along with Tim on Mediman. Both seem to be doing well after last week's wins. Tim gave them some extra time off as their next races won't be for a couple of weeks. Next was Grandma, and she galloped a mile and a quarter on the Tapeta track just behind Real Lace and Tim. Grandma went nicely, it was her first gallop since her work on saturday. All remains well. Finally I took Gator Nation across the fields with Tim on Nonpariel (half siblings). A lovely day to be going across the fields, and they hacked around nicely together. It was Gator's first day out since his race last week. He felt good.

Update 1863: Jay Privman looks at how the Preakness is shaping up: Top three targeting Preakness. Jay also makes an interesting comment that I had asked Tim about yesterday, excerpt:

Street Sense led a 1-2-3 Derby sweep for horses who had their final Derby workouts at Churchill Downs.

I was curious, given that Churchill Downs is known to be a quirky racing surface, how many of the Derby horses had actually worked across the surface coming into the race. I know many chose not to, either shipping in at the last minute or doing their final preparations at Keeneland.

Calvin Borel's life just got busy, he flew to Washington DC yesterday for the White House State Dinner: Jockey Borel Says White House State Dinner 'Might Even Be Better' Than Winning the Derby.

    Good morning, all!

    Wow, I'm first???

CNBC ran the Barbaro documentary last night at 9 and it was listed again for midnight. Thanks to whoever gave us the heads-up yesterday.

    Good Tuesday morning FsOB,

To honor Barbaro's memory, let's all contact our elected officials and ask that they co-sponsor and support S.311 & H.R. 503. If you haven't yet joined a state group, please do so. It's a great way of organizing our efforts to provide the most impact.

    Have a wonderful day all!!

Morning all FOBS. Love to Barbaro. I loved last year's Kentucky Derby more than I would ever love a White House Dinner. Thanks Alex

Hiya, FsOB! Alex, thanks for the link to the article about the State dinner held last PM, which had Calvin Borel in attendance. He must feel as though he's on Cloud Nine or in Equine Hevv'in this week!

To all FsOB in TX: Can someone please let us know the outcome of Mayor Paula Bacon's re-election bid today in Kaufman, TX? I plan to nominate her for a Profiles in Courage Award (these are given by a committee associated with the JFK Presidential Library). I promised Mayor Bacon back in March that I would reconnect with her following today's election. I'd like to research the outcome before giving Mayor B. a call this weekend. She did so much to try to close the slaughterhouse in Kaufman and because of that she's placed her political career in jeopardy. We sure need more courageous elected public officials like Mayor Bacon!

Wishing everyone a peaceful & productive day! RMH

    #### To Linda H.: May your new natal year get off to a great start! You exemplify a profile in courage among the FsOB!
To Laurie H.: Super tuck-in last PM.
Congrats to Jane in CT for your work to educate Congressman Chris Shays. With all of the bills that must need review, I can understand his possible confusion about the status of HR 503. But to not know who Barbaro is ... wow, he must be incredibly busy or else somewhat disconnected!
To Debbie LA: Thanks for the pensive photo of Michael Matx, watching Bobbey wake up in the pool last year at NBC. This was a very interesting picture and gives one a better sense of the sophisticated technology at NBC.
To Barb M.: Your description of Over Enough's return to the great outdoors was so lovely. I cried tears of joy for his jubilation. Yes, we had all hoped the same for our Barbaro Jackson.
To Mike C.: Sorry to learn of Chilukki's passing and that of her foal as well.
To David Letell: Yes, we all loved "The Big Train"! And he was certainly that!
To Linnie and Terri C.: You've both given us great ways to remember Barbaro in a very positive manner on Preakness Day this year. ####

If Edgar Prado wrote poetry this is what he might say about Barbaro... We love you , Edgar. We love you Barbaro.

    What delight
To back the flying steed, that challenges
The wind for speed! - seems native more of air
Than earth! - whose burden only lends him fire! -
    Whose soul, in his task, turns labour into sport;
Who makes your pastime his! I sit him now!
He takes away my breath! He makes me reel!
I touch not earth - I see not - hear not. All
    Is ecstasy of motion!

Call your REPS and SENATORS...do it in loving memory of our Barbaro and all the nameless, faceless horses being being trucked into Mexico and Canada and dying brutally...Please contact me and join our team if you live in Pennsylvania and want to help rescue horses from slaughter.

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple.. Please tell ten
friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble
getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of
getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.

It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "feed an
animal in need" for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their
corporate sponsors/advertiser s use the number of daily visits to donate
food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

This is from an on-line blog at NBC...

In the gift shop early Saturday afternoon I had the chance to speak with Barbaro’s owners, Roy and Gretchen Jackson. If the first Saturday in May was an experience for me, I do not have the words to describe what it must have been for them.

The line of people stretching outside Churchill Down’s gift shop was overwhelming -- as has been every aspect of Barbaro’s story. From the thrill with which he won to the 2006 Kentucky Derby; to the horror of his injury at the Preakness Stakes; to the final decision eight months later that the champion racehorse’s fight was best ended -- every event in Barbaro’s life has overwhelmed.

Months later, the support the Jackson’s receive still overwhelms the couple. I saw it myself on Saturday with the line of fans and supporters.

Last night I also saw a neat article about the KD ratings saying they could explain it in one word: BARBARO.

    last sixty years.

My book is titled, "Barbaro and Other Inspiring Horses", then go to Google, and type-in

    Good Morning,

I'm happy to say that VA is getting it's state group started. Maria K is heading it up. Thank you to Maria for stepping up. (I have already contacted her and volunteered.)

Someone the other day (apologies for not remembering your name)that a Derby champion is never reffered to as a "former" champion, unlike every other sport. Barbaro will always be the Derby champion!

Let's get Cavel shut down again...permanently. Let's get the horses safe from anywhere they are in danger or being abused/neglected. Let's find them permanent homes. Let's honor the Champ's legacy, because WE ARE his legacy.

God bless Barbaro, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, Edgar Prado, Dr. R, Mr. Matz, Tim and Alex (and everyone else). Thank you.

    GOOD MORNING FOB's

    Strategy for Tuesday March 8

Although S311 was passed in committee and is now released to be put on the senate calendar for a full vote, our battle is just beginning.

We still must get HR503 out of the House Committees. This could be a problem. The leadership of both committees in the House, the Commerce Committee and the Agricultural Committee are AGAINST the bill. It seems that our best shot is to get the senate leadership to put S311 on the calendar for a full vote. However, the only way to assure this happening is by getting more co-sponsors in the Senate. We need co-sponsors in BOTH the Senate and the House. The more support, the better our chance for moving this forward.

FYI: The House and Senate bills can move separately, and if one passes (say it's S311), then the House could also pass the Senate version. It doesn't matter what the title or bill number is. Both houses of Congress just have to pass identical pieces of legislation, and both 503 and 311 are identical.

Our sources have confirmed that to target the committees at this time, would NOT be the most efficient use of our time. We have been informed that nothing will happen without more co-sponsors. For this reason, we have been ASKED to keep contacting any of our own senators and congressmen that are not yet on board. Please remember to NOT place calls to those that are already co-sponsors.

Our opponents have not become complacent, instead they have become stronger. They are more determined than ever! And we must be also. For this reason, we are asking you to do the following:

Click on the link called Media Blitz/Horse Hands Across America and follow the instructions. This is an URGENT call to action to all FOB’s. Action must be taken on Wednesday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 16!!

For those of you who have not yet become a member of a state group, please contact Stephanie at sbreaux1@verizon.net The response to our request for an Illinois group has been answered. Right now, Illinois needs our help. If you live in Illinois please contact w.szara@comcast.net

Alex has posted links on the anti slaughter site for your convenience. You can easily access both co-sponsor lists and more information about the state groups. AND the Media Blitz link!!

WE ARE BARBARO’S VOICE! Make those calls and send those faxes for him and all the horses.

If you think one person won’t make a difference, you’re WRONG!!
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has”………………………..Margaret Mead

Thanks and have a great day.

I was reminded of this article I wrote about the "Big Train", Barbaro, on my last birthday. To my many friends on this site, and the thousands of "Barbaro's friends worldwide, I'd like to share a secret, for
the last year I have worked diligently on a book about Barbaro's life, and fabulous racing career, it is now been printed and is,available for purchase directly from my publisher, Publish America.

    "Big Train", Barbaro
When I was young I grew up in Louisiana, and lived just two blocks from the Southern Pacific railroad tracks we would go down to watch the Sunset Limited which would roar past, on its way to California. You could hear it coming several miles down the track. When we heard it coming, we would jump up and down and shout with glee, here comes the
"Big Train", here comes the "Big Train",

thats exactly what I thought when the Kentucky Derby announcer was calling the race when he said, and here comes the unbeaten colt, Barbaro he has broken away on the outside, and has swept past the front runners, Keyed Entry and Sinister Minister, he has now has taken over the lead, Barbaro has now broken into the clear and is really pouring it on, he's running away from the field, and its now all Barbaro, he wins the Kentucky Derby by seven.

The only thing I could think of then the announcer was calling the race was my childhood days when we use to jump up and down and yell,

here comes the "Big Train". here comes the "Big Train".

I believe the "Big Train", Barbaro, would have won the triple crown and take his rightful place as one of the greatest throughbreeds of all times. He is an unworldly courageous horse who will forever be cherished, as my "Big Train".

TERRIBLE NEWS TO REPORT -- The Illinois slaughterhouse is apparently in operation again. You can find details in the forum under Anti Slaughter where there is a thread about Cavel being in operation again.

WHAT YOU CAN DO -- Make calls per Shelley & Debra's strategy and add the message that slaughter has started up again, we need the federal legislation passed more than ever since slaughter has started up again in Illinois. Also, per Shelley & Debra's message (in a thread I can't find), call as many Illinois state senators as you can and tell them to vote YES on HB 1711, the bill to ban the slaughter of horses in Illinois. Contact lists are in the Anti Slaughter forum under Illinois Action Alerts.

THE JACKSONS AND OTHER DERBY WINNING OWNERS JUST HAD LETTERS PUBLISHED KENTUCKY PAPERS CALLING FOR PASSAGE OF THE ANTI SLAUGHTER LEGISLATION. PLEASE HELP MAKE THEIR A DESIRE A REALITY NOW.

For example- the first comment from the lady in Conn. said it was posted on May 8 at 11:08 am. I'm posting my comment @ 9:09am from Delaware, but hers is a later time?? I don't understand.

Posted by: Beth Thompson at May 8, 2007 2:53 PM

    ### Two questions I'm sure some FOBs can answer:

Does anyone know when a $2 bet became "standard" for betting and figuring payouts and why $2 is the "chosen" figure? I know $2 has been the standard wager for a long time--since two bucks was worth a lot more than it is now! Any of our historians know why?

And. . .does anyone happen to know the name of the VERY sweet black cat that greeted us when we visited Tim Woolley's barn? Just like Alex and Tim, he/she was a very cordial host and I wanted to send some Feline Greenies treats his/her way!

    Good morning everyone,

There is a horse, a 3yo thoroughbred, that will soon start in his very first race. His name is Lee's Line and he is named after my father. He is also Joe the horse's half brother. I had the priviledge of watching this little one grow up from the time he was a foal.

Today is his birthday. I'd visit him but he's at a track a few hours from here.

So, dear little boy, take this greeting, amongst Barbaro's family, as your present. The wonderful man for whom you were named is watching over you from heaven. He's up there now with Barbaro, Sam, Sid, Gator, Bill, Felix, Jean-Claw, Purrvis, Daisy, Jules, all the FOB furkids, Ruffian, Gallant Secret, Fitch, and all the rest. He's always with you.

I love you sweetheart, be safe pumpkin.

Joyous!! I have been a fan of Carl Nafziger for years (I remember seeing the race with Unbridled and how Mr N. called the race for the owner--it was good to see that clip again. Brought tears to my eyes, again). And I LOVE Calvin Borel.

This is such a crucial juncture for the slaughter bill in this session. We are being told that we need to get every single possible co-sponsor on board right now, in order to get the bill to move in both chambers.

I hope that everyone who is reading this has either joined or started a state call-in group, and if you have not, I urge you to please do so today. I cannot stress enough the urgency of this.

There are many groups working toward the slaughter ban, but those of us who are in the groups look at the lists of new co-sponsors, and we know exactly to what extent OUR OWN TWR STATE CALL-IN GROUPS are directly responsible for new legislators signing on.

Please join your state group and become a part of this movement to permanently end slaughter!

For those of you who encouraged me to go to that site when I was afraid to, thank you thank you thank you. I feared that it would be too painful. And even tho it sometimes causes tears to flow, it, like Laurie H.'s tuck-ins, makes me feel better somehow.

She's a HUGE Barbaro fan but didn't know this site existed. She followed at UPEN then stopped when Barbaro passed. I told her about all the good we're doing here and how we all still make this about Barbaro. I told her about Barbaro's b-day celebration and she was just so amazed. Anyway, she's going to be checking on this website when she returns home from her trip. Please welcome Lynn from CA.

Nobody seems to be posting a national list lately and I like the idea of SPECIFIC people getting TARGETED to get a goodly number of calls so that they notice, on a given day. In addition to targeting our uncommitted federal legislators from Indiana, and working on the Illinois State Senators for passage of HB 1711 in Illinois, our Indiana group has been using this daily list for our federal activities pending further instructions from the strategists here.

The people on these daily lists are all non-cosponsors of HR503/S311.

NATIONAL CALLING LIST for TUESDAY May 8 from Humanity Against Horse Slaughter (I believe they get it from Habitat for Horses). Please note that these are Representatives and not Senators, so we are talking about HR 503. (This list is targeting Senators on MWF and Reps on T & Th.) There are FIVE today, all from Florida.

The National Strategy we are getting from Shelley A and Debra at TWR stresses the importance of cosponsors on both sides of Congress - but also acknowledges the likelihood of HR 503 getting out of those "unfriendly" House Committees is so slim, that we are looking to get S 311 passed by the Senate and then voted on by the House (as the passed Senate Bill). And we need MORE COSPONSORS both in the House and Senate for all this to happen.

So please in addition to these targeted Reps today, call your OWN Senators who are not yet
cosponsors - and if you have time call Barack Obama too.

And keep calling Illinois [State] Senators to support HB 1711 per current instructions elsewhere.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK - WE ARE SO CLOSE

I will continue to post the daily lists here as soon as I get my daily email digest from Humanity
against Horse Slaughter. The latest list will always be in post 1 of this TWR Forum/DB thread via daily edits. (Anti Slaughter Issues - Nat'l daily calling list - TARGET these)

Here's an article about Barbaro's saddle:

The saddle worn by Barbaro in the 2006 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) sold for $220,000 at the May 4 Mint Jubilee Gala, with proceeds of the sale going to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys' Fund.

Dwight Manley, national manager of the Jockeys’ Guild, was the winning bidder on the saddle, but allowed Roy and Gretchen Jackson to purchase it after there was slight confusion regarding the final high-bidder.

"After the auction they came up and said they thought they were winning bidder," Manley said. "I'm not sure how that could have happened, but they seemed determined that they wanted it. It was kind of a snap decision, but I bowed out and said I’d let them have it."

The Jacksons paid the purchase price of $220,000 while Manley decided to make a personal donation of $80,000 to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys' Fund, bringing the total raised for the fund to $300,000. According to Manley, the saddle will be on display at the Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville.

"It definitely belongs in a museum, I like to see historical things being shared, and maybe that’s what I would have done since it was hammered down to me. But ultimately, this is where it belongs."

"The saddle was donated by Eclipse Award winning jockey Edgar Prado to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys’ Fund, an NTRA Charity managed by the Jockeys’ Guild, NTRA tracks, and horsemen’s organizations.

"I used this saddle during my career over the past 10 years and rode many great horses to victory," Edgar Prado said before the auction. "But the most important time I used it was with Barbaro, and that is what makes it so special to me. It is something money can't buy – it doesn't matter how much it's worth in the future, it matters how much it helps today."

According to Manley, the funds raised by the sale of the saddle will support the 58 disabled jockeys who rely on the Permanently Disabled Jockeys' Fund for less than four months. Manley, who was disappointed that the auction of the item did not draw more support from the crowd, said he still hoped the event would increase public awareness about the plight of permanently disabled jockeys.

"These jockeys gave everything so that the people in this room could enjoy the sport of horse racing and have a good time," Manley said following the auction. "There are people in this room who are worth millions, billions of dollars, so this definitely reflects poorly on them. However, the purchase price set a world record and I believe this item is priceless."

Jockeys' Guild chairman John Velazquez, attending the event with wife Leona, said he was excited to see people finally getting behind the fund he has championed since its' inception.

"I think the sale of the saddle was a very special thing, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," he said. "But hopefully more people will step up to the plate and this will help to raise awareness. It's very special to see an event of this magnitude support the fund."

MORNING RE-REPOST (since it's such an important day!) SHELLEY A, DEBRA WI

    GOOD MORNING FOBS!
Please let's not forget our friends in IL today!!
Today could be Huge for our horses!! It would be much appreciated if you make that extra call today!!! Fingers crossed....

    MORNING REPOST

You're correct -- the strategy that Debra and Shelley are posting is different, as it involves constituents calling their own legislators, and also joining their state call-in groups. The state call-in groups do have specific call lists each day, so most people on the board have a call list from their state call-in group leader, which they are getting via email each day; and in their strategy, Debra and Shelley are taking into account the fact that most people on the board do belong to a state call-in group at this point.

Other boards do have other strategies; the one Debra and Shelley are posting on TWR is the one we have been asked to follow here, but people can certainly follow a different strategy if they prefer.

You would be a FANTASTIC state call-in leader for Alabama, by the way! I hope you will consider it!

    After I read the piece

    http://opinions.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=38835

    I sent this email out:

    Ray Paulick, Editor in Chief
    Bloodhorse.com

Dear Mr. Paulick - Thank you for your insightful piece today (May 8, 2007) "High Jinx" -
particularly, "Speaking of Bonuses." It's about time somebody exposed the fact that the
ADVERTISERS ARE RUNNING THE DAMN SHOW! I think it's DESPICABLE that Yum Foods insisted on offering that insidious bonus for beating Barbaro's win margin, and so glad you exposed them. They should AT LEAST have donated SOMETHING to one of the horse charities, after forcing the participants to accept their terms.

I always thought that Yum Foods were no good, from the minute I saw that video of the way the
KFC chickens were treated. (KFC is one of Yum Foods brands.) If you are serious about doing
them some media harm, why not point out that they "are" KFC, the outfit exposed by Jason
Alexander (he had been doing commercials for them, then when he discovered how they treat the
chickens he publicly quit them and spread the word about their animal cruelty).

After hearing about the KFC animal abuse, I always thought it was a big JOKE that the Derby is
    sponsored by Yum Foods.

Anyway - thought you might want to know the above info (in case you didn't realize all of the
above) and hope you make some hay with it. If you already knew, ooops, I'm even more impressed, but lightning would strike me if I didn't pass it on to you.

Thanks for all that you do for the horses.

(HOW ABOUT AN ANTI-SLAUGHTER PIECE? THE TIME IS NOW . . .)

    Sincerely,

Caroline Jaffe - steadfast Friend of Barbaro and lifelong horse owner [contact info omitted]

APPENDIX: portion of Ray Paulick's piece addressed in the above message

    SPEAKING OF BONUSES...

Race sponsors are always looking for ways to get more bang for their marketing buck, but the $1-
million bonus promoted by Derby sponsor Yum! Brands should never have seen the light of day.
The so-called Yumfecta (critics called it the dumbfecta) would have paid $250,000 each to the
winning jockey, trainer, and owner of the Derby winner if the horse exceeded Barbaro’’s 2006
winning margin of 6 ½ lengths. Another $250,000 would have gone to support laminitis
    research.

The idea that winning the Derby wasn’t enough, that the winning jockey should be whipping
and slashing to exceed Barbaro’s winning margin, is insulting to anyone who understands the
game. Some tried to convince Yum! not to introduce the bonus, but the fast-food hucksters
    insisted.

Furthermore, using the memory of the gallant Barbaro to promote such an ill-conceived idea was
exploitation of the worst kind——especially since, in the end, Yum! Brands apparently failed to
provide any contributions toward laminitis research.

This is not the kind of sponsor horse racing needs. [end of email]

    AMEN! CJ

    ### CJaffe--Bravo to you! I'll have to read the full opinion piece from Bloodhorse, but I'm glad to see Mr. Paulick expressing his distaste for this truly tasteless "promotion" from Yum! brands. I could tell that the ESPN announcers thought it was a horrible idea! And raise your hand if you're getting really tired of every reference to the Derby in the national media being written as: "The Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands". I understand the need for sporting events to have corporate sponsors, but for a venerable institution like the Derby to have to include YUM! whenever their name is mentioned is overkill and too much control by the sponsors IMO. They should have at least "ponied up" their $250K to the Barbaro Fund!

TERRI C ... I JUST READ THIS FROM YOUR POST YESTERDAY:

I know that the day of the Preakness may be a tough day for some of us. I also know that some of us may not even be able to watch the race because of the memories. But I also know that Barbaro , the Jacksons, Mr. Prado and Mr.Matz and everyone connected with Barbaro will be on our minds. Linnie has already suggested another great Laminitis Fund donation strategy for that day but I would also like to suggest a simple gesture in remembrance of a great champion. What if all of us tie Lael-colored ribbons around our fence posts, trees, car antennas ( do they still have those?)and everything else you can think of on that weekend. I found a very close match in colored ribbons at Michael's while I was preparing for Del. Park. but I am sure most fabric stores will have ribbons closely approximating the blue and green. What do you think guys?

Posted by: Terri C at May 7, 2007 10:44 PM
    #############

First of all, thank you for the kind words about how we can honor Barbaro on Preakness Day via donations to laminitis research in denominations of either $6, $12 or 18 ... win/place/show across the board. I know the outpouring of generosity from everyone will be heartfelt and strongly supportive.

But I LOVE your idea of the LAEL-colored ribbons being tied to "whatever" we have to tie them to! I can certainly tie them to the antenna of my Mustang ... and yes, my car DOES have an external antenna. I live in a condo in South Florida, so trees, fences would be a "No-No" but they can't tell me WHAT to do with my car! LOLOLOL

Can you tell us more about the colors? I am thinking a lime-ish green and royal blue ... is that pretty close???? GREAT SUPER IDEA ....

I HOPE WE ALL "TIE A LAEL RIBBON ROUND THE OLD OAK TREE" ... AND EVERYTHING ELSE WE CAN THINK OF ON PREAKNESS WEEKEND!!!
    ##################

LAURIE H ... I just read your tuck-in from last night .... thank you, also, for your kind words of support for "Let's Lick Laminitis" ... greatly appreciated.

And yes, you ARE doing something .... your posts bring joy, happiness and peace to all who read them and love them ... that, in itself, is a rare gift. And I'm sure that you are also donating to those causes which affect horse issues and you are working toward the end of horse slaughter ... so, Laurie, you ARE doing something very special and very important!!

Dealing with Doggie issues lately and haven't posted much. I want to reiterate Marilyn's words on our strategy.

Here's the bottom line as told to Shelley & Debra from their contacts.....WE NEED MORE CO-SPONSORS....period. That's the crux of it. Our best strategy for accomplishing this goal is with the State Groups. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE....join a state group today. Reps want to hear from constituents that's the beauty of the State Group. 3 more co-sponsors listed today. I can tell you most assuredly....our California group was instrumental in getting Maxine Waters to sign on. STATE GROUPS are the most productive strategy right now so don't be shy....join one.

I am in Stephanie's own calling group (the California group that was the pilot program for TWR's state call-in group strategy), and I can personally attest that joining your state's call-in group is the single most efffective thing that you can do to obtain more co-sponsors in the House and the Senate.

Since I have joined in -- Steph, correct me if I am wrong about this -- SIX of our targeted California representatives have become co-sponsors, and we know that these gains are a direct result of our precisely focused campaign.

So please join your state's call-in group! People who do not post but read regularly are MOST WELCOME and are encouraged to join. You will receive a daily call list of state reps, plus as much instruction as you need from your state leader, if you are a novice. The leaders are not scary -- they are people you see here and on the DBs every day -- people like Steph, Barb from Arizona, Pamie from Florida.

The horses need you; please do it for them.

I just returned to work from a Change of
Command ceremony at the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Naval Air
Station Pensacola. My boss, a Navy Captain, is transferring; the
ceremony is a formal ceremony to, literally, change the leadership of
the command (organization). A Rear Admiral was the guest speaker. When
my boss spoke, she acknowledged many people in her command, thanking
them for their work and dedication. Then she got to me - and started
crying! She thanked me and then said "I'm going to miss Linda, her
stories, Penny and Pepper (those are my dogs) and BARBARO!!" "Linda has
kept me informed about Barbaro and all things related to him almost
daily for the last year". Well, that's when I couldn't help but cry -
and smile also. The Big Boss Horse got honorable mention in an

Barbaro's Legacy: Kentucky Derby TV Ratings Rise
Posted May 7th 2007 5:41PM by Michael David Smith
    Filed under: Horse Racing

Television ratings for NBC's broadcast of the Kentucky Derby were up 12 percent from last year and tied for the highest for the Run for the Roses since 1992. I can explain why in one word: Barbaro.

Although I tuned in to the Kentucky Derby wanting to see anything but a treacly tribute to the deceased 2006 winner, I realize that I'm in the minority. Barbaro captured the attention of millions of fans, and those are the people who tuned into this year's Derby, hoping they'd see features about Barbaro and hoping another horse would inspire them like he did.

Gotta love that Barbaro Effect! Yipppppppppppppppe!

Barbaro's saddle goes to jockey's charity

Louisville, Ky. | Barbaro's Kentucky Derby winning saddle now belongs to the colt's owners.

"Well, it's Edgar (Prado's) saddle; he just used it on Barbaro," co-owner Gretchen Jackson said after a book signing Saturday at Churchill Downs. "We just love the idea that it's going to be back with us."

The saddle was sold for $220,000 on Friday night, and the money will go to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys' Fund.

Gretchen Jackson and her husband, Roy, claimed the saddle after some backroom negotiations with Dwight Manley, national manager of the Jockeys' Guild. Manley thought he was the highest bidder and accepted the saddle, only to be approached by the Jacksons as he walked off the stage.

After a brief discussion, the Jacksons received the saddle, with Manley throwing in another $80,000 for the fund.

Manley's only request was the Jacksons put the saddle in a museum one day. The money will support the 58 disabled jockeys who rely on the fund.

The Jacksons made a bittersweet return to Churchill Downs for the first time since Barbaro won last year's Derby by 6 1/2 lengths - the largest margin in 60 years.

They took part in a ceremony honoring Barbaro. They will receive a $25,000 donation from Churchill Downs Inc. to the Barbaro Memorial Fund, which benefits the New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pa., where Barbaro spent rehabilitation after the Preakness.

I know nothing about this. OMG tell me more, I have so much respect for him. I enjoy hearing what he has to say. What an Incredible Man and Doctor. I still feel bad for him I know he is not over Barbaro.

    ###Sorry I [posted...too anxious...LOL
It was listed as an aside in this site either yesterday or the day before...but it didn't give the time. You could ask Dr R questions and he may answer them on the program. I believe it was Bloodhorse that is sponsoring it..they didn't say where to catch the program....so I have been looking but not coming up with any station.

Who was the photographer at Del Park that had the pictures of Barbaro with Edgar Prado. He also had the big framed print for 175.00 of Barbaro at the beginning of the stretch run I believe. I cannot find his card.

Please let's not forget our friends in IL today!!
Today could be Huge for our horses!! It would be much appreciated if you make that extra call today!!! Fingers crossed....

    MORNING REPOST

***HOW WE CAN HONOR BARBARO ON PREAKNESS DAY!!***

If it was not for the "Laminitis Dragon" that slayed our beloved Barbaro, he would be alive and living on some beautiful Kentucky farm, grazing in the bluegrass and sunshine and enjoying life at this very moment. For me, there is one culprit in all of this, and that is laminitis, and I am focused like a laser beam on destroying its very existence. We can only do that with research and education which, as we all know, costs lots of money.

So, if you are inclined and want to give to laminitis research fund on the day of the Preakness in loving memory and honor of our beloved Barbaro, here's what I propose and suggest in a very special tribute.

In order that we can still give our $29 on the 29 of each month, we can donate $6.00 in honor of Barbaro's Post Position in the Preakness in the year 2006 and in honor of his 6 1/2 length win in the Derby and for the date he actually won the Derby; i.e. May 6, 2006!!!

So, by donating just $6.00 to the laminitis fund on May 19, you will honor Barbaro in four different ways ...In this way, if you still want to honor him via other ways; i.e. horse rescue, sponsoring, etc., you can still do that, too because $6.00 is very affordable to all of us!!

    ALSO ...

If some of you want to do a "triple", then feel free to donate $18 to laminitis research in honor of Barbaro on Preakness Day ... $6.00 for post position, $6.00 for the year ending in "06", and $6.00 for the date (May 6)and the # of lengths he won the Derby by ... or any combination ... either $6.00, $12.00 or $18.00 ... Win/Place/Show!!

The options are yours, the choices all get donations to laminitis research ...

As for me ... definitely doing the Triple on May 19 and will donate $18 to laminitis research in honor of our "Bobby!!"

Let's, together, make this our biggest tribute yet for our "fallen hero" ... let's lift Barbaro 'up' with our love and our donations to laminitis research on Preakness Day ... another 'sign' of the number 6" ... 5/19 = 5+1+9+15 and 1+5=6!!

For Barbaro ... for all the horses who have suffered and been debilitated by this deadly killer .... and for those who will, unfortunately, succumb to it UNTIL a cure is found!!!

    From pedigreequery.com:

Cormorant is the oldest living sire of a Kentucky Derby winner, Go For Gin, and arguably the most accomplished thoroughbred stallion ever in New York.
Died of old age on May 4, 2007 where he was pensioned at Dr. Jerry Bilinski's Waldorf Farm, North Chatham, NY.

    Hi FOBs,

I was disappointed that I could not see the Derby on Saturday. But on Saturday morning I visited a restaurant in Waynesboro, PA for breakfast on my way to Hershey Park, PA.

This restaurant has a gift shop that sells Beanie Babies. As we were looking on the shelf we were surprised to find amongst the beanies two BARBARO beanies. I smiled, quickly purchased one, and then thought all is right with the world. I also said a prayer thanking God for speaking to me and for giving me a reason to smile.

    URGENT!!
Some of these AIDES (and I use that term lightly) STILL THINK THAT HR 503 was passed three weeks ago!

I told this kid that if that was the case I'd STILL be dancing buck naked down the street!!! (He had no sense of humor, so that was totally wasted on him...THEN, he didn't even know what HR 503 WAS?!
    VERY SCARY
    ##################
OY: I am weak and dizzy and totally ferklempt (help me with the yiddish, someone) from my visit to Horse Feathers in Canastota NY...I smooched horses from one end of one barn to another....more on that later: (I had to restrain myself from all the recently spring kids from the KB lots in KS...they are all still in quaranteed.) I NEED A NAP!! (& chickens, cats, dogs, goats, sheep, OH MY!!!!)

It was DELICIOUS. I'm working on dovetailing an article on this quiet rescue op and the owners/FOBs letter for my local paper.....this would be GREAT for Horsefeathers, and great for the cause of antislaughter too. People in htis area are clueless, I think...I am so excited....

I will be back in a couple of days with apples, carrots, new halters.....horse heavennnnnnn, ummmm.

    *****GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!!!********

We hav just received the 'unofficial, preliminary' figures from our "Let's Lick Laminitis $29 on the 29th" campaign for the month of April.

Here's the information received directly from UPenn for those donations that do NOT include the personal monies received on April 29th during Barbaro's Birthday celebrations. These figures are those received throughout the month either electronically or via checks sent in:

    71 gifts @ $29
    2 gifts @ $58
    3 gifts @ $87

Grand total for April 07 Total - $2436
    ##################

NOW for the monies that were collected "personally" during the birthday celebrations, the figures are:

    MAINE - $377
    OHIO ... $261
    FL ... $145
    Hollywood Park, CA ... $621
    CO ... $87
    TX ... $618
    DELPark ... $1,740

    TOTAL ... $3,849

So, this UNOFFICIAL 'WINNING TOTAL' for April is:

$6,285 and this figure is still 'low' because there are more monies still coming in that haven't been included yet.

This does NOT take into account all of the other monies raised for laminitis research; i.e. Ernie's shirts, Dr. Richardson's artwork, and all of the other shirts and items where proceeds are going to laminitis research. These figures that I have quoted are JUST for the "Let's Lick Laminitis" 29/29 campaign!!!

So, to give you a 'running' total since January 29 of this year when our beloved Barbaro was "reborn" to Equine Heaven through today, we have raised as a result of $29/29 a total of (at least) $12,897!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS, FOB NATION ... YOU "DONE" REAL REAL GOOD FOR BARBARO AND FOR LAMINITIS RESEARCH!! UNITED WE WILL CONQUER!!!

You have much to be proud of ... so very very much!!

Now ... let's see what we can do for Preakness Day and the entire month of May!!!!

Without you, I am 'nothing', but with all of you, I stand as tall and proud as each of you should feel right now!!!!!!!

You are WONDERFUL!!!!! INCREDIBLE!!!! GENEROUS!!! AND MOST OF ALL, LOVING!!!!

I did not know a horse carried that name, your dad would have loved that. I remember readimg that he had died and I felt sorry for you. He was a great guy. I hope your mom is still with us and ok.

((Skyler)) I knew you when you worked at AK, Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Oaklawn & the farm in KY. I'll find your brother and get your email addy. Lord I can't believe its you. Its been years. I remember the dog you found on a highway and loved who would run around the Churchill barn after training hours. She broke into a box of krispy kremes in the office once and got sick in the shedrow. You named the dog after one of your horses. Guess who I am. We all went to a LSU-KY football game in Lexington that year. we all wore LSU colors and you were in blue, you stuck out like a sore thumb but we had fun. Can you guess?

    Candy Box euthanized

Candy Box, a minor stakes winner owned and bred by Frank Stronach, broke down after finishing a five-furlong workout Monday morning at Belmont Park and had to be euthanized.

Candy Box, a 5-year-old daughter of Running Stag, was galloping out after working five furlongs in 59.43 seconds in preparation for a start in Sunday's Grade 3, $150,000 Hendrie Stakes at Woodbine.

Trainer Bruce Levine said Candy Box fell after the work and broke her elbow. She needed to be euthanized. Exercise rider Jesus Romero was taken to a local hospital for observation.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Illinois Bill to Protect Horses Passes Senate Committee
Bill Moves to Full Senate Hearing
WASHINGTON (May 8, 2007) – Today, an Illinois Senate Committee voted 7-0 to
pass a bill banning the slaughter of American horses for human consumption
overseas. The Humane Society of the United States applauds the Senate
Committee and urges the full Senate to quickly pass this legislation.
The bill, H.B. 1711, passed the Illinois House last month and now moves to
the full Senate. Governor Rod Blagojevich strongly supports the bill and
has lobbied in favor of its passage.
“Horses are an integral part of American history,” said Wayne Pacelle,
president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States. “They are our
companions, not food animals. Horses should not be brutally killed to end
up on a dinner table overseas. They deserve our protection. Lawmakers in
Springfield recognize this. The Humane Society of the United States is
    grateful for their support.”
The Cavel International horse slaughterhouse in DeKalb, Ill., is the only
active plant in the country killing horses for human consumption. After a
federal court ruled that the U.S. Department of Agriculture could not
provide inspections of horses about to be slaughtered, the plant was shut
down. However, last week, an appeals court stayed the ruling, temporarily
allowing the DeKalb plant to resume operations until an appeal could be
heard. On the federal level, U.S. Rep. Janice Schakowsky (D-9/Ill.) is
leading the effort in the U.S. Congress to pass a separate bill, H.R. 503,
which would ban horse slaughter for human consumption nationwide.

WOW - just learned (via the Forum) about the UNANIMOUS passage of Illinois HB 1711 out of Committee. I AM SO STOKED!

Now if this is already common knowledge here excuse me, but I wanted to call this to y'all's collective attention. Check out this new UNWANTED HORSES poll at TheHorse.com.

Here's something that's right in line with some of the discussion I've seen about the pro-slaughter people insisting that there are insufficient adoptive homes for the "unwanted" - have you seen this poll at www.thehorse.com in today's online edition?

Their new poll is called "UNWANTED HORSES" and asks whether the responder has the resources to take in a horse; if the answer if "yes" they want contact info.

If a lot of people take this poll and say "no" then that will be interpreted to mean there will be insufficient homes for horses who do not go to slaughter. So - EVERYONE WHO REALLY CAN take in a horse and assume responsibility - TAKE THE POLL and say YES. AND IF YOU CAN'T, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE POLL. DO NOT ANSWER "NO." (oh - here's the mantra - DON'T SAY NO, haha)

Go to www.thehorse.com and the poll is at the lower left side of the page, I believe on every page of the current online issue.

Here is the text of the poll question; the heading is UNWANTED HORSES.

Do you have the space and resources to take in (adopt and care for) one or more horses at this time? If so, please put your city, state, and e-mail address in the box below, and we will circulate it.
    Yes
    No

Your city, state, and e-mail, if you answered "yes."

EVERYBODY - WE ARE SO CLOSE - Today's Committee action on HB 1711 in Illinois is such a major event, I believe it WILL give impetus to the federal process.

I was at a fancy boarding stables this past weekend and while some of the boarders seemed savvy about slaughter and had been making their calls, others believe the "horses in the streets" hogwash; I gave everybody the link to TWR and directed them to Alex's Anti Slaughter Strategy link. THIS IS SUCH A GOOD THING you have done, Alex, you'll never know the true extent.

    # Y'all...I just love the story of Barbaro waiting for the school buses and for the children to wave at him. That tidbit sounds so like our Barbaro - so curious about the world around him, and you could almost see the wheels spinning in his head.

I have to wonder - knowing our Chipper Nipper Barbaro and his insatiable appetite, I wonder if he was thinking: "I bet those little waving fingers would be mighty tasty." Ha. Just kidding.

It's so easy...just click on the "Horse Anti Slaughter Strategy" tab on the top left of this page, then scroll down past Shelley and Deb's names to the blue link. Thanks, Deb, for that link to all the newspapers and the letter - all we have to do is cut/paste the letter and email it to 5 newspapers at a time!

The timing of this is critical, so remember to do this as well as making your calls to your Senators and Reps - WE NEED MORE SPONSORS!!!

Have a blessed night and remember, as Edgar Prado wrote, Barbaro taught us that "giving up is not an option!!!"

    Goodnight Fans/Family of Barbaro

Great job...FOB'S. I believe America is waking up, they know how the FOBS worked and stand united.

Do not forget tomorrow..we can slam'em with phone calls, emails, faxes, everything possible...to finish so many unfinish tasks that Barbaro has left us, and for Mr. and Mrs. J. Such noble people, lovely.

Please remember the rescues, the ones suffering, all animals large or small...pray that no animal, horse, or child, does not suffer abuse or neglect. We speak for so many that cannot speak for themselves.

Pray for each other, and hug each other, after all we are family and live in the House that Barbaro built.

Great to see new family and our old family...great postings...

Our hearts go out to the ones who lost their lives, may Barbaro be greeting them at heaven's door.

    Have a bless evening

Always, thank you Alex and Tim

Regarding the Media Blitz scheduled for Wednesday, May 9 and again May 16th ... Just an FYI

I have done these 'media mailings' before as part of a political campaign I was working for, and it is very very easy, as many have said here already today. You get to choose 5 media outlets at a time and just "drop" the text in the prescribed box. And then you can go on to the next 5. It is very effective, and I hope that as many of us will share in this great opportunity tomorrow and the following Wednesday, May 16th.

You can definitely count on me for sure ...

    Hello Barbaro,

Fantastic news from Illinois!! Your Fans’ hard work is paying off. There is still a lot of road to cover and they realize that but today, with news such as this, we must celebrate!

We are also getting updates on Misty’s progress with her foal. I say an extra prayer for this event... The foal will be darling, cared for and loved. Will we be able to see the signs of a kiss or will this foal keep the kiss hidden like a treasured secret?

A big day for Fans, they may be going to bed early tonight. So, why don’t we grab your blanket and cuddle you up and get you to bed before your Fans. Okay... yes, it’s a race Honey. I know that makes you happy, so, it’s a race...

Let’s pull the blanket up high and fluff the folds for nuzzling.

Your healing is complete and strength will forever carry you through your days.

Dream sweet dreams Honey. Please visit Misty and give her a gentle nudge. She needssupport and to know she’s amongst friends right now.

Your Dream Angels are patiently waiting and have a map to Misty...

Good night Honey. I'm in love with you so much. Sweet dreams and may a politician never ask, "Barbaro who?" Good night. XXOOxxoox

    Hello Hope,

I hope today was a blessed event in another day spent being a Mommy. Are you getting used to having a little one with you?

Remember, the people in your life want to help you and Little Laurie H. so please let them, okay? You're not expected to do it all yourself...

Are you ready to call it a day? Your little one will be tucked in right next to you Hope, wrapped in her soft pink blanket...

Let's pull it up high on your neck and tuck the ends under very gently. Now, let's fluff the folds so you can nuzzle through the night.

Dream sweet dreams Hope. Tomorrow is another promise of dreams fulfilled...

Good night Hope. Sleep in comfort surrounded by love. I love you. xxooxxo

    ###

    Hello Little Laurie H.,

Did you have a wonderful day being a Newborn foal today? I'm sure everyone who is blessed enough to see you is in love with you. They probably can't get enough of you and maybe, just maybe, you're showing off a little too...

I would love to be able to visit you...

Let's get your blanket and cuddle you next to your Mommy. I left an untucked part of her blanket so you can touch her while you sleep. She needs to feel you next to her as well...

Little One, the sounds you hear at night, don't let them frighten you. You have a couple of Dream Angels who are just getting used to their wings...they keep bumping into things while on their way to sweep you off to sweet dreams. So, just close your eyes and wait patiently...

Good night Little Laurie H. I'm in love with you. You are a blessing. You are loved. Good night...xxooxxo

I just ran to my mailbox to see if my Barbaro DVD was there ... NO!! To those of you who DID received your DVD, did you order from the NBC link or from somewhere else?
    ##############
I did have a nice surprise in the mail anyway ... not Barbaro-related but good nevertheless and it involves 'receiving unexpected money' rather than paying it out!!

I got an official letter from the US District Court for the District of Oregon regarding the settlement of a class action lawsuit against The Hartford Companies. Why? I don't know, but apparently they notified me years ago. The letter states that I purchased an auto policy sometime between Oct. 116, 1999 and May 1, 2002 ... I guess that's correct because my memory seems to recall that.

Well, the suit was finally settled, and I will be receiving a check of no less than $150 if I follow the instructions ... just check my address, sign the claim form and mail to the Settlement Administrator by June 28th!!! I can do this!!

Totally unexpected ... completely grateful, and definitely no coincidence at all. What we give out comes back to us in so many other ways and I 'donated' $75 the night of the silent auction on a gorgeous sterling silver bracelet made by Dawn in Omaha which I just love. Believe me this unexpected money will help 'defray' the cost of my DelPark Weekend ... BUT some of this money is ALSO going directly to the Laminitis Research Fund at UPenn!!!!

    THANK YOU, UNIVERSE!!!

    ### Ah, Dear sister Harriette. No there are no coincidences. How do I know this you ask.
    WELL LET ME TEL YOU
Today is the 8th... our boys winning number.
Today is the 8th...my winning number... what do I mean by that you ask...

I GOT YOUR PACKAGE TODAY... TODAY OF ALL DAYS

I can not even begin to thank you and Carol enough for what you have done.
MY FAMILY, this is what Harriette & Carol did for me.
Carol not only purchased and sent to me an official Barbaro hat... you all know about the hat by now...LOL
Carol also purchased for me the 132 Kentucky Derby book. I have never been so overwhelmed in my life. I can not even begin to thank you enough for what you have done for me.
Harriette did something absolutely amazing. I sent in the money for my official Barbaro shirt, but Yetta must not have gotten it or with all that was going on overlooked my order, as my shirt was not at the celebration as planned. So, Harriette SENT ME HER SHIRT, along with my name tag,the post cards that were handed out, the FsOB GET IT Button and the KY Derby Lael pin that was mentioned here A few days ago. There was also a ribbon in Lael colors with a Rose.
I can not even tell you how much this means to me. To have my FOB family think of me and go so far for me. I knew I loved you all that much, but had no idea I was so loved by others that much.As long as I live I will never be able to repay you, Harriette & Carol for what you have done. Not just material wise, but to my heart. I know Barbaro changed me, but you two have done more for me than I can ever remember ever having done for me, to touch my heart like this. I am also going to be the proud owner of the Barbaro DVD, I just don't know if I am allowed to disclose who is sending it to me. If you happen to be reading. Email me and let me know if it is ok to say your name as well. I would love to list you among those who have touched me deeply.

My FOB Family, you mean so much to me. Each & everyone of you. Some of you I have never posted to or emailed, but I love you too, because we all have the same heart. We are all here ultimately for the same reason. Thank you for being here when I am down and lifting me up, for supporting me when I needed it and for laughing with me when I write something off the wall for you.
Each and everyone of you are my family and I love you more than I can possibly say.
Thank you, each and everyone of you for making me feel welcome and special. You are the ones who are special, even more than that, I just don't know the proper word to use, because none seem good enough for you.

Alex, once again. Thank you for giving us a home to come to everyday to be together. Thank you will never be enough for you either.

    Love to you all,
    Verna

PS...Harriette. you must be a little(A LOT) smaller than me...LOL I think I will have the shirt framed so it will be preserved forever and never a stain to touch it.

R.I.P. Wilbur, I will miss seeing your beautiful feathers walking around and checking on everyone.
I know you are now in EH and walking around and checking everyone out there and making sure all is well.

As I'm sure everybody knows by now, Dr. R will again be on Talkin' Horses from TheHorse.com - on Thursday May 10 at 2 pm ET. Here's the info:

    http://www.thehorse.com/ViewArticle.aspx?ID=9550

There is a link to submit comments and questions; here is what I just sent off. Maybe some other FOBs could also write in, asking him to state his position on slaughter.

    COMMENTS AND RELATED QUESTIONS.

Not long after Barbaro was euthanized, I had to make the same decision for my old mare Blackie who could no longer be kept acceptably comfortable (progressively "blown" left front knee); and having seen the New Bolton interview with you and the Jacksons, and also the discussion on the Larry King show, about Barbaro's last moments, made it easier for me to do what had to be done. At her home barn, Blackie ate apples out of my hand as the drug hit.

    And now the Question(s):

    FIRST - about euthanasia:

Will you PLEASE discuss the difference between humane euthanasia administered by a veterinarian in a peaceful setting, and the brutal methods involved in transporting horses to, and killing horses in, slaughterhouses?

    SECOND - About horse slaughter

Mr. & Mrs. Jackson have spoken out loudly and publicly against horse slaughter and actively support the pending federal slaughter ban legislation (HR 503 / S 311). Will you please, as possibly the most respected and widely-known vet EVER, join the Jacksons in opposing horse slaughter for human consumption abroad? We are so close - I believe that Your Voice added to the mix will ASSURE OUR VICTORY.

PLEASE won't you speak out on this issue?

Thank you for everything you did for Barbaro, and for everything you do. I'm so glad you turned out to be so crazy about horses!

    [end of what I submitted]

There's also a link at the URL above, to the transcript of Dr R's last appearance on this program.

Famblee: I am just back from dinner at my sister's with my dad and I will have to rush to talk about 100 horses in lush green pastures, the crew from the KS KB still in quarantine....about half of them stretched out in the beautiful, cloudless, Barbaro kind of day, weanlings, oldsters, a story about each one. Appy, quarter horses-lots of them, WB crosses, paints....all beautiful, all being repaired by good food, attention and the good sun.

Barn with stabled with beauties: bays, blacks, red roan (how beautiful she was...) one bay mare who has deep scars on her face from her old halter literally being grown-over by her skin...had to cut it out. scars healing,. She's going to be my project: I will get her to approach me without her ears laced back and her teeth at the ready. She has no reason to trust anyone.

3-day old shetland pony, what a nugget, mom standing guard--she would have growled if she could....stabled next to her, another pregnant shetland...both not wanted, take them to the meat man. Adorable in the cranky, cobby, shetland pony way....

more and more....cats, chickens, 2 goats, who were to be easter dinners, sheep, puppies which susan found when she got in the truck with her other driver to go home from KS....they now enjoy the goodies and Richard and Susan.

I was dizzy and crazed by the time I left. I snarfled, smooched, stroked, patted, kissed...it was a love fest. I will be out there a lot now that I have found them...hands on, thank you Barbaro and thus the Jacksons, for sending me to see what was up with their ops and try to generate a local tie-in story for the Owners/ FOBs letter/

I am writing fast so that the Board does not close on me as it did last night.

Great news about ILL...WE WILL DO THIS@!!!!!!!
MORE TOMMORRW: love you guys, yes, the greys roo.
at my friends funeral in March, they had a massive roo for the scattering of Millicent's ashes. I wish I could have been there....but yes, and they do look kind of silly when they bark!

Love to all: ALEX THANK YOU!!!

Hiya, FsOB! Wow, what great blue links to photos of our Sweet Prince. Thanks so much to Debbie LA. And Trish, I do remember reading somewhere that the Big Bay One liked to watch the school buses go past the fields at NBC. That boy loved an audience and apparently loved children. Just think, some day the grandchildren of the Jacksons and the children of Michael Matz will tell their own grandkids about meeting Barbaro.... Peace to all members of the Barbaro Nation tonight! #### To Elaine, I can't remember the reason why, perhaps something to do with a server connection, but I think that the TWR site shows the timestamp for the United Kingdom. My memory fails me on this one.
Welcome to Lynn from CA and to Linda R. in NE!
To Verna1: Thanks for sharing your happy news from 05/08/2007. That's so awesome that you received the thoughtful package from Harriette.
To Lou Ann: I don't know of an updated address for Edgar P. Perhaps Alex might? ####

As always, Equine Heaven, you have made me laugh, cry and smile all at the same time.

The lines that will eventually form on my face from your writings will be well-earned, and I will cherish them all...of course, I'll still slather myself with Olay of Delay, but I'll be proud of the laugh/cry/smile lines nonetheless!

Susan O--I know MHR has a group of turkey chicks that arrived a few weeks ago to keep Wilbur company. They were purchased with some of the Rosie Birth Pool money at the behest of pool winner Shannon. They're all still tiny right now. I don't know if MHR can take on a full-grown tom right now, but let's find out!

I didn't know Shannon wanted the chicks. What a wonderful thing to due. Guess they will have there hands full soon enough.
