Barbaro Updates: 322

updates are now here.

Update 2118: Hard Spun, one of only two horses to compete in all three legs of the Triple Crown, worked this morning at Delaware Park, his first work since the Triple Crown: Hard Spun back to work at Delaware.

Update 2117: Another gorgeous morning this morning at Fair Hill. I had three to ride, each went to the Tapeta track. First to go was Fortuna, we went with Tim on Nautical Agent. Both galloped well and it was fun to watch Nautical Agent high-step her way home. Second out was Kitty, and she went with her buddy, the Two Punch 2yo filly. They galloped together for a mile and a quarter, and went nicely. Kitty was very good coming home too. She can be a little high-strung, the key is to keep her from boiling up. So far so good. Finally I rode Linda's Precious Partner, she galloped a mile and a half, she also went well. On my way home, Fen, from Graham Motion's barn, reminded me that Better Talk Now is scheduled to run again on saturday. He seems to be doing very well.

Update 2116: It will be a busy July 4 for Barclay Tagg. Not only does he have NoBiz in the Dwyer at Belmont, but he also has Derby winner (and very popular) Funny Cide running at Finger Lakes: Funny Cide comes to his people. Finger Lakes is the first race track in the country to have a retirement organization on its backside: Finger Lakes sets pace to help retired racehorses.

Once I was in Victoria, and I saw a very large house. They told me it was a bank and that the white men place their money there to be taken care of, and that by and by they got it back with interest.

"We are Indians and we have no such bank; but when we have plenty of money or blankets, we give them away to other chiefs and people, and by and by they return them with interest, and our hearts feel good. Our way of giving is our bank."

Good Morning Harriette.

Posted by: Cal at July 3, 2007 11:47 AM

Good Morning,
We've been working so hard to end the murder of our horses and we're all rejoicing, rightfully so, about closing Cavel, et al. and no horses being slaughtered. I read the other day, and for the life of me I can't remember where but I think it was on the DB, that the Texas plants are still slaughtering horses to sell the meat to zoos, they're just not slaughtering for human consumption. Is this accurate? Can anyone confirm this?

If they are, what can we do? There are some of us who are working with zoos to get them to not buy horse meat (that WAS on the DB), but haven't heard anything lately. Is this a battle that we're saving for later?

There is NO reason for a horse to be eaten, period. My emphasis only. The horses are much too loved to be food. If the dog food industry stopped using it 40 (?) years ago, why haven't the zoos?

For the Love of the Horse.

Hiya, FsOB! It is a gloriously sparkling day here on the banks of the Thames. We know just which "big bay one" would've loved a morning such as this.
Wishing each of you in the Barbaro Nation a wonderful & safe Fourth! Everyone working for legislation on behalf of the horses is acting in just the sort of manner that the folks that wrote the Declaration of Independence envisioned. Peace to each of you and may our fellow citizens of the Barbaro Nation in the UK be safe. Robyn

#### And Harriette, thank you for invoking the wisdom of the elders who preceded other peoples on this continent. ####

Harriette, If you only lived closer.......

Posted by: Cal at July 3, 2007 12:35 PM

g'morning, y'all~
woke up very early this morning with horses on the brain. I seem to spend most of my time actively thinking about them now..guess I never outgrew my horse-craziness.

I'm on a mission to get myself into position to adopt my first. It may take me a while, but I can be pretty tenacious once I decide I want something!

This, I believe, is something worth pursuing. Horses are definitely worth fighting for- they've done so much for the human race already...and never asked anything in return.

Let's end this nightmare of slaughter for good.

###Good morning everyone and thank you Tim and Alex...for EVERYTHING.

###Hooray for Finger Lakes!! What a great thing, to have a retirement setup for retired racers.

Let us hope it is a great success--and that others follow suit. From what I've heard, it takes "knowing someone who knows someone" to find out about retirees.

Have a safe and happy 4th!

Good Morning FOB's

Strategy for Tuesday July 3

As we get ready to celebrate the birth of our great nation, theres no better time to remember the icon of our country..the HORSE!!

This week there are no horses being slaughtered on American soil. HOWEVER, the slaughter of our horses will NEVER stop without the passage of federal legislation. Everyday that passes, more American horses are being transported out of this country to meet their horrible fate.

With all three slaughter houses shut down in America, we must now STOP THE CRUEL AND INHUMANE TRANSPORTATION. Tell your Senators/Representatives how much our horses are suffering on their way to Canada and Mexico. Each day the federal legislation is not passed our horses continue to suffer a cruel and inhumane journey.

In lieu of lists this week, you have been asked to contact the representatives in your district:

This week, your representatives will be working in their District Offices. The best thing you can do is to arrange a meeting with members of Congress who have not yet cosponsored, especially those who cosponsored last year. We urge you to try to make an appointment to meet with them in person. You should try to organize small local groups and request a meeting in their district office. Being constituents will make it easier to get an appointment. If the Representative is not available, then the District Director is the next best thing.

In addition, when you contact your Representatives in the House today please remember to urge them to oppose SECTION 123 OF THE AMENDMENT to the 2007 Farm Bill. Section 123 of the Amendment would nullify any State or Federal legislation that would prohibit transport of animals, INCLUDING HORSES, for the purpose of slaughter. It could actually allow the Texas slaughterhouses to open again. You might want to start with HR503 and end with this just to let them know that this bill is trying to make an end run around the federal legislation that we are trying to pass.

For those of you who would like to make calls in addition to our strategy and need direction, you can follow the list posted by Habitat for Horses. But don't forget to call your OWN reps. Also, please continue to follow your state leader's instructions and list.

There is still a need for state group. they've been VERY effective in getting cosponsors. Right now we're looking for leaders in for Missouri, Louisiana, Vermont and New Hampshire. To find out how you can help, contact sbreaux1@verizon.net

Several offices have informed us that the pro slaughter people are more organized than ever and are making a lot of noise this year. We cant let them be louder than us. Remember....WE ARE BARBARO'S VOICE.let it be heard!!

Thanks and have a happy and safe Fourth of July!

Hay Pennsylvanians, are you willing to be a voice for the HORSES?

We really need more co-sponsors to be assured that our bills pass the Senate and House when they are brought to a vote. Pennsylvania is a big Ag state, and we are fighting a tough lobby. WILL YOU HELP US?

We are Team Barbaro Pennsylvania. Our team is now 48 strong and we’d like more of you to join us! We have 9 legislators who have not co-sponsored the bills. We are experiencing success! We do need more assistance, however...

Please tell me you are willing to be a voice for the horses! They cannot speak for themselves!

There are 4 or 5 names to call, fax or email each day Monday through Thursday. It takes but a few moments to speak for the HORSES!

I am the Pennsylvania State Leader. Please email me if you’d like to join our Team Barbaro Pennsylvania and get on the emailing list for targeting our PA Senator and Reps who have not yet agreed to support the anti-slaughter legislation. You can email me at Lor's Email Addy.

OUR HORSES NEED YOUR HELP!

A few minutes each day for our Horses it not much to ask…is it?

I GET IT. I bet you GET IT too. Let’s ROLL for the silent, suffering horses!

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is really easy and helps animals in
need. Please pass this information on! The Animal Rescue Site is having
trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota
of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.

It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "feed an
animal in need" for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their
corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate
food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

Good morning, everyone. I've made my first round of telephone calls. I was up at 3 a.m. this morning, imagining the horses and their terror. We may have closed Cavel for now, but that doesn't mean we've saved a single horse . . . yet. We NEED to get the federal legislation passed. Until then, we need to call, call, call. Think of those horses on that long horrible trip. We are their voices. We cannot get complacent. The pro-slaughter groups are ramping it up -- they know they have a fight on their hands. But we are up to it, because we WILL not stop until the job is done. Do I hear you, FOBS?!!

I have never posted before, but have been coming here for over a year now. While I still mourn Barbaro's spirit and the Triple Crown winner that he would have been, I am constantly thriled by the generous hearts that you all have.

I have a favor to ask. There is a draft bill to have the FDA regulate compounded medicines rather than continuing to be state regulated. Compounded medicine is where a pharmacist combines a medicine with a cream. According to the article that I read, this bill means that compounded medicines will have to go through the lengthy FDA certification process, which will ?effectively end the practice.?

I am sick about this because my girlie kitty is allergic to antibiotics and has only been able to tolerate the compounded cream that I rub on her ear. She has been having a bladder infection every other month and without compounded medicine, I will probably have to put her to sleep with her next infection if the bill passes.

There is a website set up by the Pharmacy Association: www.savemymedicine.org. They make it really easy to send a letter to your local politicians. You just fill in your contact information (be sure to include your salutation), modify the letter and hit enter. The website will then send your letter to your local politicians.

I am sure that many of you have family, friends or pets that also depend on compounded medicines.
Any of you that can use your generous hearts to take the time to use this website to send letters would be so appreciated!! Thanks!!!!!!!!

There is an update on the DB regarding the two TBs that were saved 6/27, and 2 others we saved with them. The story of the grey, Painted Pistol is what I posted about last week - to bear witness to his spirit. I will never forget his story. 10 years old, with 96 starts, last raced 2/07, he won $270K for his owners, and ended up in the kill pen with an M painted on his side (meatman)

http://www.pedigreequery.com/painted+pistol

The thread for pictures of all 4 is called Update-4 Slaughter Rescues from 6/27.

##FAMBLEE.....BARBARO came to visit me in my dreams last night!!!! :) It was so exciting but very scattered:( Our kitty escaped from the house and was in the backyard...and our dog was barking and barking....SUDDENLY...right before my eyes..a GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL BAY HORSE just 'appeared'....and began nibbling grasses...Seymoure became alotsa larger than he really is, 'cause he puffed up like a blowfish! I stood there NOT believing what I saw...RAN into the house to get baby carrots and when I got back outside, he had just jumped over the back gate:( I HOPE he will come again and stay longer next time!! He was SO beautiful....shiny as a new penny and smooth...his mane was 'short' just like someone 'pulls' it regularly to keep him looking just so perfect! Like Barbaro could EVER look ANYTHING but perfect, huh?! I wonder if the Farm Manager at Heaven's Gate Farm is in charge of manes and grooming:)

Anyway, I just wanted to share my dream...I didn't get to touch him or kiss his nose...but maybe next time:)

O.K. Faxing now....watching for CJ's list....everyone have a wonderful day!

Frens,It's a good thing I had brownies for breakfast, it's been a rough morning. We are so terribly in need of rain here. Cattle and horses have nothing to eat, the fields are barren and dusty. I am so afraid this combined with the high costs of hay is going to force some people to get rid of their horses..an icky scary truck ride..in the words of joe the horse..to a very bad place..

A I was getting ready to leave my house this morning my husband called. Someone had called him and said the horses where we used to board were loose and the owner was out of town, could we go get the horses before they got on the road.
I went straight on over there since I was closer..the man's horses were all in the field, but there was not a blade of grass for them to eat. Their forlorn eyes were not the eyes of the horses I left 6 weeks ago. These horses were hungry thirsty and sad. To heck with the out of town owner..Igot some bales of hay and took to the horses in the field, their whinneys and neighs made me cry.

Inside the barn the two stallions stood in their stalls ankle deep in poop, no water. They literally screamed in delight when they saw me. This is exactly what I feared would happen when I moved our horses. I have taken care of all 16 horses for 4 years twice a day.. My heart is broken..

Please pray for the horses and pray for rain for all those including me in drought stricken areas.
I never did see the horses that were out but I suspect whose ever they are, they broke out in search of food.

My heart is heavy. Barbaro, look after the horses, tell God we need rain.

Anyone who wants to contact Mr. Landman to comment on his great "companions not dinner" article in the Florida press - I just called him, and his correct email addy is without his first name in it; it is

Landman@sptimes.com

He is indeed overwhelmed by the response. I told him about the 2 truckloads with survivors, that prove that slaughterbound horses are primarily young and fit and sound and sane. (I refer to the I-44 doubledecker wreck last September, with some already adopted to forever homes and the rest at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Mo; and the truckload rescued from Cavel when the federal court shut it down.) Promised to email him some details of these situations.

Also he was unaware (until our conversation minutes ago) of the things horses do such as work with special needs children and adults, etc etc. Will be emailing him details of that too.

Amazingly Mr. Landman has never had face to face contact with a horse, but has long been a racing fan (of course I directed him to TWR, of which he was already aware). I suggested he visit a rescue and promised to send him info on rescues in Florida.

If anyone has specific info easily on hand on any of the above topics - PLEASE email it to him as well. THANK YOU.

Thanks so much for sharing your Barbaro dream with us. I felt like I could actually see your dream as you described it. I have not been so lucky as to dream about our beautiful bay boy yet, but I keep hoping that one day he'll pop in.

Happy Fourth of July to all FOB's and all else who love the beautiful horse named Barbaro. May everyone have a safe and happy holiday in their own special way!

45 + 2

Continuing the support AFTER the rescue is what really counts. Many are in need ... just check out the TW Chat and Discussion board. Send a little to each. Kansas horses = HUGE accomplishment for FsOB. They need continuing support. $10 from each FOB reading my post will help more than you can imagine. Check the "Chat" board for information and pix.
Talk about feel good .... you will ... when you send a follow $$$ to all in need. Send $5 to 3 in need ....... it helps. It's needed.

hAy famblee ! So good to be back. A word to the wise: If you get an email purporting to be "a postcard from a family member", DO NOT open it. Do not! Bad things happen to your puder.

I have much catching up to do here as a result. I'm sure others have posted already, but I wanted to tell you about our FOB Day at Longmeadow this past Sunday. Pix and text will be posted to Wiki ASAP; will work on that tomorrow!

Longmeadow is the only horse rescue in Missouri. It's amazing, and beautiful. I hope all our pix will do it justice. The staff is professional, so compassionate, so ardent about their mission. There are ducks, geese, gotes (smile), sheep, a pretty black steer, and Snortin' Norton, the pig. Longmeadow handles farm and large animals. And then there's the horses.....! We drove down a winding gravel road past verdant forests and meadows bursting with wildflowers, and then the forest opened up to the greenest valley I've ever seen. It was Longmeadow. We neared the barns and there were horses everywhere! Horses being walked to and from turnouts. Horses sticking their heads out of stalls and talking. Where to look first?

There were 9 of us, and we got the whole tour, including a hayride! We met all the Horse Heroes, plus other horses. Every horse there was gorgeous, healthy looking, comfortable. Many were shy with us, but others stuck those velvet noses right into our eager hands. We met and played with Twist of Fate, the foal born to Hero Mama two months ago. He's huge, beautiful, and very social !

I'll do a write up for the Wiki page and will include pix. Some of mine aren't so great, but Sheila's husband had a better camera and got lots of shots. Between us, we should have a good presentation for you.

Visiting Longmeadow really reinforced for me the need to keep funding rescues, and to have a comprehensive plan in place to do so. I'm brainstorming, as I know ya'll are. I know we can do this.

I can't wait to go back to Longmeadow and muck stalls or something. It won't be for a few weeks, however. Tomorrow, I meet and hopefully bring home a baby brother for Lizzie!!!!! I found him on a cat rescue website given to me by our vet, and I'm very excited! I'm going to set up a naming contest for him on Forum, like Lisa Leach did for her baby foal.

Off to the law library, yawn. More later!

****Cathy, it's not a stable as such..it's a farm, all the horses (10 of them) belong to the owner. We had our horses there for 4 years because he had room and my husband thought he was a nice man (NOT)

Yes, Cal, I will be there morning and night until the man comes home..I never gave my gate lock key back to him :-)

Harriette:
I am sick with you over the state of the horses...WHY does this person HAVE horses???? People: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Falling down now with my silly, 5-year old newly-in-season foster greyhound...who is making all my neutered males drool stupidly and pathetically, and is driving the white gh with whom she traveled (still INTACT, as we say) Mad as a Hare...such fun we will have till he gets neutered. Sigh.

Keep going, everyone we have to move (sooner than later I hope) from Save mode to Support/Sustain mode. This will take some doing. But I think there are friends in high places who will help....

God bless all the horse in their long trips to godforsaken Mexico or Canada. God shelter their minds...

Give us strength to continue in their names...and in the names of the 1,000+ we have saved so far.

Repost:

Hi All,
I just wanted to let everyone know that wrote into the Ranchland News in Colorado last week that they did print each and every one of your letters to the editor! Thank you everyone! If you had not done that, I would've been the only one opposing slaughter. There were two really long letters that were pro-slaughter. One from a woman whose argument was horse prices will go down if the slaughter plants are closed, the videos on slaughter are 15-20 years old, and who are we to tell anyone not to eat horsemeat. She then went into a long story of how she tried to give her horse that had gotten ringbone (and was then "unsafe" for her kids) to several rescues and then also tried to give her to a wild cat sanctuary for meat and no one would take her. So, she took her to an auction and got a whole $163.00 for her, but at least her body was used for something besides being buried in the ground. And, at least the slaughter houses provide jobs for people. She ended it with saying the sentiments voiced by Toni Gibbons were nice and sweet, but she just didn't think that they have any basis in the reality of the livestock business.
Made me sick to read it.

The other letter was from a guy that wouldn't ever eat horsemeat, but if other people want to, then that's nobody else's business. He stated all the plants are regulated and inspected; cattle are killed everyday in that fashion; if there was not "proper disposal" of these animals, it will drive up hay prices and people will start killing them in pastures and have them wandering around without homes and slowly starving to death; it drives horse prices down so people will make less money; he doesn't know why people like Ms. Gibbons don't mind their own business as most people love their horses and would never kill, stab them or bag them up for somebody to eat. If Ms. Gibbons knew that, she would never have written the article. He doesn't like a lot of things in life, but is not out trying to stop something that makes a lot of people an honest living.

I don't even know how to respond to that way of thinking...I'm getting so I don't much like living in Elbert county. Most of the county is rural with many, many horse owners and I was the only one from my county that wrote in opposing slaughter. Unbelievable. So THANK YOU for writing in. At least it made us 7 to 2 instead of 2 to 1. I'll let you all know if there are any more letters for pro slaughter next week.

You guys are the best!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS AGAIN!!

REPOST STRATEGY FOR TODAY JULY 3RD.

You've made a huge difference just by letting everyone know that there was an opportunity to respond and get the word out. I also live in a fairly rural area, so I know what you are up against. It can be frustrating, but we'll get it done. Thanks for letting us know about the letters.

UPDATED INFO FOR RAISE THE BARN FOR JEANETTE C.

You may have noticed that the email address in post #1 of the thread on the DB is mine again! Hey, gotta keep you guys on your toes! But seriously, the reason for the change is that Deb needs to attend to personal business at this time, so my house will be the "warehouse and distribution site". Deb did an awful lot of work "behind the scenes" for this fund raiser and I know you will join me in thanking her! Bless you Deb - you are a wonderful person and my friend forever! Know that I am thinking of you and wishing you well.

But, I won't be working alone....my husband volunteered (with NO promting from me, lol !!!) to help me keep things running smoothly. So thanks to Bob, my new General Contractor, we should be just fine.

If you emailed Deb and got her address to mail your checks and info, please get everything in the mail ASAP since she will be transferring everything to me in this Saturday's mail. If you can't get your "stuff" to her before then, she will do a second mailing to me the following Saturday. In order to give Deb time to pack everything up and mail it to me, July 10 is the deadline for mailing checks and info to Deb.

If you are a NEW participant, you will email ME at GlendaOBrn@aol.com to get my snail mail address and the info on what to send.

Remember that July 11 is the deadline to participate in this fund raiser. If you miss the deadline, I suppose you could email Jeanette on your own about making a contribution, but then you won't be eligible for the necklace deal. So if you WANT a necklace, don't delay!

thanks to Alex and Tim for being such gracious hosts

###Ann Good to have you posting! RE the FDA regulating compounding of drugs, it always has, I think the issue here may be the creation of new compounds which according to the proposal, be subjected to the same process as a NEW pharmaceutical preparation. Anything already in the pipe will not be discontinued, and veterinarians will maintain the ability to prescribe "off label" for anything that is NOT a Class 1 - 3 med. Hope that makes you feel a little better.

###Lynne Brown your dream had so many similarities to mine. It was SO real. I could hear hooffffsssfsssssfsss stepping across the grass, hear wuffle/snuffles, SMELL him. It was lovely.

###Harriette..The Spirits and Grandfathers are always with you, always hold you close and guide you. You hear them and see them, don't you my Dear Sister

Such very moving posts today . . . and I also came to say that I, too, have felt Barbaro's presence particularly near yesterday and today, and there were those "signs" again . . . .
My heart beats for your heart, Barbaro, always and forever. Run with the angels honey!!

ROBYN H. - Your morning post was especially moving . . . the mention of this nation's Signers of the Declaration of Independence and the reason for tomorrow's celebration who were determined in their cause just as we are determined to see the end of HS. Your words were extra special.

HARRIETTE - You know how I love the words of The Wise Ones, beautiful.
But your second message about those poor, poor horses brought the tears and I just wished I could be there with you to do something for them, to help them, to love them, to take them away from that horrible place, but I have gone to Our Lady once again for those horses and for you.
And my prayers continue for our fellow FOB, Jeannette.
And Harriette, for the desperate need for rain in your area, I shall invoke Saints Heribert, St. Scholastica, and St. Jude that the skies may open and rains will refresh your earth.

RENEE A. - thank you for sharing those gorgeous words of Shakespeare for our equine pals, beautiful.

Barbaro . . . you are so near today, I feel your presence, God Bless you, you know how much I love you.

with love,
Lou Ann

Beth in WA - thanks for sending info to Mr. Landman. So far I sent him links to Longmeadow Rescue Ranch website and specifically their info re the I-44 crash, and also today's great article from the Chicago Tribune about horse therapy for disabled servicemen. (Thanks to whoever posted that; couldn't be more timely!) Here's that link again - well worth reading and sending to contacts.

Lou Ann,
You are so welcome. It is nice to see you here with us. You were missed.

Posted by: Renee Antaya at July 3, 2007 9:28 PM

You guys seem to be pretty knowledgeable and kind. I have a question. We lost our golden retriever, Molly, last Friday to hemangiosarcoma. She and my little Papillion were best friends and my problem is him now. He is absolutely mourning her and will not eat, etc. Stays glued to my side like velcro and cries incessantly when I leave the house/office. I try to take him everywhere I can. Will he get over this? I am afraid he might just pine away. He does seem to perk up when he sees other dogs and in fact gets all excited. Should I go ahead and get him a new companion? Thanks for any insights.

Posted by: Cate at July 3, 2007 9:32 PM

####### that was Sue W who posted the Chicago Tribune article - thank you thank you.

Posted by: C. Jaffe at July 3, 2007 9:34 PM

First let me say I'm sorry for your loss. I have two dogs and they are like my kids.
He will go through a mourning process also. It's normal especially for two dogs that spent so much time together. This is just his way of grieving. He may follow you around from now on. He dosen't have the companion he once did and you may take that place. When he is ready he will move on.

Cate - so sorry to hear about your loss of Molly - and the loss is even more profound for her surviving companion, your little Papillon who is devastated and cannot understand what happened. Hard enough for you - imagine for her. (OY!) Bless you for taking him everywhere possible with you.

I certainly would recommend getting a companion for him. The sooner the better. And you may want to let your vet take a look and maybe furnish some nutrients and/or helpful hints.

Meanwhile if he absolutely will not eat he must be getting dehydrated and weak, and I recommend getting a tube of Nutri-Cal (from a vet) NOW - you can squirt it in his mouth like toothpaste; it will give him some vital nutrients and usually perks up the appetite and gets them started eating. Also recommend getting some (unflavored) Pedialyte (or drugstore generic equivalent) to replace electrolytes, which he may drink like water, and if not, you can get some into him via oral syringe or eyedropper.

My heart goes out to you and your little survivor. Best wishes and let us know how things turn out.

(btw - I have a special fondness for the breed; a gal whose horse I ride has a nationally known Papillon, who competes and wins against the big doggies in agility; he's even been on TV.)

Goodnight Family/Fans of Barbaro

May all of you have a safe, and fun 4th of July. Thank God we have our independence and we can speak freely. Please let us all exercise that privilege by calling, faxing, emailing, whatever...to get this bill passed by the federal legislation. HORSES ARE BEING SLAUGHTERED.

Remember the rescues, the fallen angels, the ones suffering, human or animal, and love one another...

Have a wonderful evening and a Happy 4th.

AMC is showing HIDALGO tonight at 8 pm, est. GRRRREAT movie. And Viggo is eye candy, IMHO>>>and boy can he ride. He bought one of the "Hidalgos" after they wrapped...(There were 5 or 6 i think...) Anyhow, One of my favorite horse flicks.
I got a great little nap with crazy little Ursula this afternoon...I would go nuts if i had a horse and couldn't sleep with it!!! Of course Lynne Brown's virtual barn has human beds in all the big box stalls so she can sleep with her Frens....xxoo

The mooing cows lawsuit is going to court. I was raised on a ranch and liked to hear the contented cows moo. Does that nut have nothing else to do? By the way we had horses on the ranch used for roundups and cutting cattle. They were there for life until they died of old age. what is wrong with people? I guess the more I am around people the more I find my animals better company. Harriete, wish I could be there to help you with the hungry horses.

### Lou Ann & Sandie , thank you, all of you who have posted concern over the horses..you know I will take care of them..someone may have to come bail me out of jail before it's over...

Awwww.... What sweet wonderful people you all are. Thank you for your concern for me and my little Papillion. I am defintely doing better than he is in coping with the loss of our Mollie.
I think I will take him downtown tonight and eat at an outdoor cafe with him. Lots of people bring their dogs downtown and maybe the activity will get him perked up for at least a little while.
I appreciate the advice and all the healing words of kindness.
Bless you people, you are truly wonderful!

Navajo Rain Chant

Far as man can see,
Through the pollen,
Comes the rain,
Through the pollen blest,
Comes the rain with me.
All in pollen hidden
Comes the rain,
From the Rain-Mount,
Comes the rain with me.
Rain-Mount far away,
Comes the rain,
Comes the rain with me.
Far as man can see
Comes the rain,
O'er the corn,
Comes the rain with me.
O'er the corn, tall corn,
Comes the rain,
Comes the rain with me.

`Mid the lightnings,
`Mid the lightning zigzag,
`Mid the lightning flashing,

Comes the rain,
Comes the rain with me.

`Mid the swallows.
`Mid the swallows blue
Chirping glad together,
Comes the rain,
Comes the rain with me.

Grandfather, Great Spirit, I pray for rain for my fields and for the green grass to grow to feed the horses and cattle, the sheep and the goats and all your creatures who depend on the Earth for food.

Cate,

I had the same problem a few years ago. My 16 year old cat died and her surviving sister, Thunder, howled every night. I got NO sleep. The vet said it was separation anxiety. It took about a year to get past it!!!
Now my Thunder (she's almost 20!)is very sick and will be gone soon. I know the dog will miss her but it's not the same as it was with the two cats that grew up together.
The only thing that gives me peace now is knowing that Pumpkin will be waiting at the bridge to meet her sister!!

My vet suggested a stuffed animal. Didn't work for me but you might want to try it.
Good luck.

##Cate
am so sorry for your loss of your Molly, and for your little Papillon, too. Damned cancer. It is so cruel.

Have often wondered why some think that animals have no souls. Do they not know how they love and grieve? There is nothing sadder than the grief and fear that our companions suffer, whether that companion be a dog, a cat, or a horse. It is painful to see how they suffer, and sometimes it is impossible to console them.

Letting a new dog into your hearts may be just the thing. If you are ready, of course. I've always found a new life and love a good remedy for the loss of another. By no means a "replacement", just somebody "new" who takes up residence in a different part of your heart, who will have his or her own funny little ways, will show his or her love in his or her own way, who will bring laughter where there are now tears. Not all the tears, but some.

God Speed, Molly. All my doggies will great you at the Bridge, and you can all romp and play in Barbaro's hevvin. Run fast, beautiful Molly. You'll have many, many friends who will keep you company while you wait for your mom and your little Papillon brother. You can watch them from hevvin and let them know that you are whole and painfree now. Let them know that hevvin is beyoooooooooooooooooooooootiful

hello all -- I was speaking with a coworker today who lives in the Tampa Bay area and she is sending out this plea, can any FOBs in Hillsborough County/Tampa identify this ranch she's talking about? The horses need help. She's alerted the SPCA, but to no avail -- can anyone help with next steps?

..................................
They are in hillsborough county. I don't know the address but I can see they from the veterans expressway. They are on the southbound side between waters and hillsboroug exit. They are confined in sheds made from scap metal and wood and there are piles of scrap metal in their common area. I can see ribs from the highway. I've never seen ribs on a horse closeup. To see them far away is scary to me.
...................................
please e-mail me if you can be ofo help, i'm also posting this in the discussion room.

I have to tell you all something. I respect everyone's religion or your right not to beleive in anything. The story I wrote the day Barbaro crossed the bridge..I agree was good, but someone higher than me wrote that story. I was just the one who wrote it down..I was the author on call in Barbaro's house that day. That story was given for all of us to help all of us get thru very bad times. Myself, I humbly believe and give the glory to God,for he have me the story that day, even as Barbaro was crossing the bridge.

Yesterday Joe at TB Friends posted that his showing of two TB's rescued from the feedpens and killer buyer at Turlock produced some dramatic responses from mothers of young readers of his site. Here is part of his daily post today, with his comments on the phone calls he received in response...

-----------------

Tuesday, July 3rd... Keeping you informed. In the first six months of 2007 there have been 171 adoptions, with 3 horses returned. For the second half of this year we are hoping for a splurge. Like the morning after Christmas when shoppers at Wal Mart rush through the door and tear apart left over bags of Hershey Kisses. We would like to end 2007 with 400 adoptions, which would be an all time record. So far in 2007 we have rescued 226 horses. 5 of them have died. 46 have been sent to our wonderful foster families. There is an event trainer near Sacramento who has adopted 6 horses from us this year. Another girl in Vacaville has adopted 4 horses. Several have taken home 2 horses. We love our repeat customers. 14 times this year we have taken in horses from training barns because owners could no longer afford them. Three times this year a horse has been abandoned in our driveway. Also left in our driveway this year have been 15 cats, one dog, and a 10 gallon aquarium filled with guppies. Twice this year an angry parent has dropped off their teenage daughter and said here, keep her. Um, sorry. We take in animals, not moody kids. And recently I came home to find a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts at our front gate, and in the hot sun they were a mess. The box was gooey with glazed sugar, and you could actually see big grins on thousands of flies.

Over the years in our driveway have been abandoned rabbits, hamsters, birds, cats, dogs, a giant iguana, a little pony we named Samson and now he lives in Cache Creek, and a cage with 6 white rats and now they live with a friend in Davis.

Please do not quote me, because this number could be wrong. Since 1997 we have found homes for 2,055 horses. That figure includes public adoptions from killer pens. More than 20 horses were counted twice, as they were returned and then later adopted again.

To those of you who phoned yesterday with your support, thank you so much. Right now it is 50-50. Some of you say keep posting cruelty pictures, but others say there is no need.

I loved the phone call from Jamie in Davis. Jamie says there is Good everywhere, and Good is what makes us all get up in the morning.

Enjoy your 100 degree Tuesday, and be sure to hug your horses. ...

Joe

----------------

Pretty incredible numbers... thank God for Joe.

Hi, FOB's!

###
Shelley, so sad to read about Thunder. I know you are giving lots of love. My prayers are with you and all your furbabies.

###
Cate, you are also in my prayers. I lost a golden retriever to cancer years ago and I still miss him.

For some reason, I really miss Barbaro's physical presence right now. Don't know why since I feel him close by so often...but I just wish he was here just one more time.

###
If anybody knows where I can get copies of a book called "Whitemane - Path of a Skypony", please let me know. This book can tie into the workshops Joanna and I are offering and I am desperately trying to find out how I can order bulk copies.

You are all the greatest. EVerybody have a wonderful July 4th...

Was up at the ranch today - the horses were wonderful. Stormy was affectionate, Windy was dong healing work on Joanna and Illusion was trying to mooch extra grain. They are all so wonderful.

I know it's late to reach a lot of people, but this is about the first chance I've had to get on.

I wish all of you a happy fourth, and I always say, beware the fifth ! (Don't party TOO much!)

This week, ACCORDING TO OUR STRATEGY (see Debra and Shelley's posts,) I have scheduled a visit with my own U.S. Representative here in Arizona.

A couple of weeks ago, I met with the Chief of Staff in his office. I DIDN'T know that at the time ! (I probably would have been a little more nervous!) I took in all my horse medications that I use frequently. Most of them clearly state, "Not for use in animals intended for food." Well, no DUH ! Horses aren't raised for food !

So, I am gathering up all my meds again to go in on Thursday.

I STRONGLY recommend that you try to get in to see your own Senator or Representative. What does the word "representative" suggest to you? It means that this person REPRESENTS the people of his/her district. He/she should be willing to meet with you !

If you can't get in this week, PLEASE ask them when the Congressman will be back in town. Congress is adjourned in August, and I suspect that they would be spending at least part of that time in their own district.

Now, if you haven't joined a state calling group, THIS WOULD BE THE TIME.

GET OUT THERE !

I would like to share some things I think are amazing, and I am so grateful. I have these candles I get from Heavenly Scents (yes, I know) anyway, they are in mason jars. I keep one in my treatment room. I lit it this morning. Just before my 500, I went in to get ready. The candle burned over half the way down, and I can see the backside of the label through the glass. Guess what was written there? A big number 8. It was awesome seeing the 8 through the fire of the candle.

I volunteer at HFH, and at the ranch on Sunday, while walking down one of the roads near the pastures, I looked over at a wheelbarrow - big label/sign on it - Jackson 8.

I knew there was no better place to share these "sightings" than with you all.

Happy 4th everyone. Thank you Barbaro - forever horse.

BobbieB,

I LOVED you comment !

"It's July 4th week- Remember Paul Revere didn't ride a cow, sheep, pig , or goat. There is a difference in the horse. The faithful, loyal horse."

Good Evening One and All,
Many, many thanks to Alex for all you do; Tim for allowing us to use your site; and allFsOB, you know why.

Special thanks to Mary S. for her "assist" today. A futile effort, but heartfelt. Much appreciated.

I just discovered something. Though I can no longer find the thread on the DB, several people have taken to calling Barbaro's youngest brother Dyna Soar. I was looking for something else, but looking at a progeny report on pedigreequery.com I saw Dynaformer already has a Dyna Soar! lol A 3 year old. I guess great minds...etc.

Love to all. May all have a happy and safe 4th of July.

***Cate***

Thoughts and prayers are with you tonight, for your Molly, that she may find rest and renewed life with Barbaro and all his Friends over the Rainbow Bridge.

I know in time your Papillion will be rejuvenated; I know because a friend of mine lost her golden to the same type of cancer (it is so wretched a disease) some years back, and her maltese had initially gone through withdrawal syndrome as your Papillion is experiencing now. However, frequent walks to the park, children (the little ones seem to be able to work magic on dogs), and alot of personal attention provided a sure-fire cure. In time, the Maltese (Daisy) returned to being "her old self", as I'm sure will certainly be the case for your Papillion, Cate. Keep up the good work, and.........

Believe in Barbaro!

Happy 4th to YOU!

Alex,

I PROMISE you........someday you will get your racing website back.

And then, some day when we are all sitting around in our nursing homes, in our wheelchairs with built in Internet access, we will be posting something like this:

"I remember a time when Tim Woolley Racing was taken over by a movement to end horse slaughter; you know, back in the age when horse slaughter was quite prevalent in the Unites States...."

(In the meantime, thanks for letting us borrow it for a while !)

**Alex**

Cheers! Happy 4th of July to you and all the good people at Fair Hill.

Hay, All,

We rescued at least 7 on the DB last night, and there is still great need to be found there.

You might want to take a minute and look in there.

If each one of us would simply give, at least a $10 bill (half the price of a good pizza)...or more if you can afford it...a couple of times a month, or as often as you can, we could do a great deal of good.

And please don't forget "29 in the 29th."

If it does not come from us, then who?

In the meantime, keep those calls and e-mails going out, and tell three new frens to tell three frens, about BARBARO, and the campaign to end horse-slaughter, each and every day.

You are all so wonderful. God Bless you all.

### Maribel: Got your e-mail. Backatcha soon.

### Hay Ginny in Phoenix, Lori CA, and Shelly.

### Susan W: You are always in my thoughts and prayers. Hope your days are bright and peaceful. Breath! Speak the words of sunshine in thunder...It is good!

### Debbie LA: Chap9 is now posted on the BARBARO thread

...in fact, any and ALL are invited to join us there, in Thisgoodplace.

Happy 4th everyone. America is still BEAUTIFUL!

the end of HIDALGO is coming up on AMC...the scene where he is home again and ransoms all the penned mustangs with his winnings is SO WONDERFUL...all those different colored horses, sweeping over the hills and plains...it's just HEAVEN. It's on AMC on cable. (American Movies Channel...) try to watch if you are able.

Me too about Barbaro: why is he so close to us today?

And also my heart goes out to all who have lost companion animals. How we love them. How they make a space in our hearts that bears their name and only their name. That kind of love is sacred, IMHO...and only time will help heal those wounds.

If any of you are considering adding another dog to your pack, think about a retired racing greyhound...go to adopt-a-greyhound.org and look up your state for the closest adoption group. We are everywhere...

Love and healing to all. jonna & the pack
