Barbaro Updates: 323

updates are now here.

Update 2124: Patrick Biancone, a leading trainer in the US who has also trained in France and Hong Kong, had his barn searched recently: Cobra venom said to be in Biancone barn.

Update 2123: NoBiz was second best in the Dwyer this afternoon.

Update 2122: Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide won this afternoon at Finger Lakes.

Update 2121: Bay Meadows will be in operation for one more year without a synthetic racing surface, plans appear to be to develop the property in 2009: CHRB grants one-year waiver to Bay Meadows.

A nice story to celebrate July 4: Kingly domain: A retired thoroughbred finds a home and escapes the slaughterhouse.

Update 2120: Some rain last night which left the main track a bit of a mess. The Tapeta track was fine as usual. I had three to ride today. First out was Nautical Agent and she went to the Tapeta track along with Tim on Whip Smart. Nautical Agent sat in front by a couple of lengths and galloped nicely for a mile and a half. She then high-stepped it home. Second out was Kitty, she went with the Two Punch filly and we went to the gate. It was Kitty's first time and likely also the Two Punch filly's first time (we were not entirely sure). Anyway, we spent some time with them at the gate, showing it to them, walking them around, and then eventually walking through the gate a couple of times. Its super important the first couple of times coming to the gate is a good experience, and it looks like that was the case with these two today. Finally I had Linda's Precious Partner, and she worked a little on the Tapeta track. She seemed to work well and quickened up niely towards the end. I was blowing harder than she was when we pulled up.

Tim has visitors for a while, his mum and Amanda are now here for their summer holidays!

Update 2119: A couple of big guns from Barclay Tagg's barn racing today, NoBiz and Funny Cide.

Better Talk Now is getting ready to race on saturday at Monmouth: Better Talk Now not slowing, excerpt:

The years have not taken a toll on Better Talk Now.

"I know I've been quoted saying it before, and people are probably getting tired of hearing it, but I feel he is probably as good now, if not a little better, than he's ever been," trainer H. Graham Motion said. "I feel that applies going into his next race."

That next assignment is the Grade 1, $750,000 United Nations Stakes on Saturday at Monmouth Park, a race the 8-year-old gelding won in 2005.

Better Talk Now doesn't appear to have lost a step, based on his most recent effort: a stirring rally to edge English Channel by a head and capture the Grade 1 Manhattan Handicap on the Belmont Stakes undercard.

"I couldn't be happier with him," Motion said. "I'm extremely fortunate to have him, and I feel like he's doing very well right now."

Today is a day of celebration for something many countries don't have and that is 'FREEDOM.' The FREEDOM to be the person that you are.

Please reflect on the good things life has to offer and pray that many who are not as fortunate as we are, to someday find peace.

There are many that are going through personal trials in their lifes that we may not know of, but there are, let's hope that they find peace in their heart.

Best wishes to everyone and hope that life brings peace to everyone at some moment in their lifes.

Good morning, all!

I haven't been able to read posts here or post anything lately, but just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful Independence Day. And luv to the Brits, too! All is forgiven? ;)

Good luck to NoBiz and Funny Cide! Great racing today. It's wonderful what Finger Lakes has done. It should be a model for tracks everywhere.

May all horses and jockeys travel safely today. Prayers and love to all FOBs and their furkids in need.

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is really easy and helps animals in
need. Please pass this information on! The Animal Rescue Site is having
trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota
of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.

It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "feed an
animal in need" for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their
corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate
food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

Click to Feed the Animals - Rescue Site

Again, please tell your friends and cross post!!!

There's already a lovely post in Equine Heaven for today...

A dear friend sent me a tape of the HBO Barbaro documentary and enclosed a Barbaro beanie baby in the package "to help you get through the sad parts." I told her how many wonderful things have come out of Barbaro's legacy. I think it was foretold when Mrs. Jackson saw that rainbow...

Hay Pennsylvanians, are you willing to be a voice for the HORSES?

We really need more co-sponsors to be assured that our bills pass the Senate and House when they are brought to a vote. Pennsylvania is a big Ag state, and we are fighting a tough lobby. WILL YOU HELP US?

We are Team Barbaro Pennsylvania. Our team is now 48 strong and we’d like more of you to join us! We have 9 legislators who have not co-sponsored the bills. We are experiencing success! We do need more assistance, however...

Please tell me you are willing to be a voice for the horses! They cannot speak for themselves!

There are 4 or 5 names to call, fax or email each day Monday through Thursday. It takes but a few moments to speak for the HORSES!

I am the Pennsylvania State Leader. Please email me if you’d like to join our Team Barbaro Pennsylvania and get on the emailing list for targeting our PA Senator and Reps who have not yet agreed to support the anti-slaughter legislation. You can email me at Lor's Email Addy.

OUR HORSES NEED YOUR HELP!

A few minutes each day for our Horses it not much to ask…is it?

I GET IT. I bet you GET IT too. Let’s ROLL for the silent, suffering horses!

Happy 4th of July to everyone!

Just a reminder to please check out the TWR DB for:

URGENT Kansas 45+2 need your help

This was a very large rescue of horses that had already been sold to slaughter. The FOB's involved convinced the owner to sell to them instead. Some of the horses have been adopted out already but the rescuers are still in need of funds to care for the remaining horses. There are posts on the thread that explain the current situation very well and pictures of the horses too. There hasn't been a lot of response to help. We can't ask the rescues to take the horses and then not support their care. Please help if you can. They really need it. Thanks.

The legislators want to be sure that there are provisions for "unwanted horses." This is a big concern for many - tied to the passage of S311 and HR503. Thus - rescue AND follow-up support are tied together and one without the other cannot be deemed a success.

As Dawn has suggested, check out the TWR DB - Kansas - for details and pics.
Show the legislators that FsOB GET IT !

Happy 4th Everyone....Enjoy this day with frens and famblee...picnics and bbq's and watermelon and home made ICE CREAM:) Yum!!

Our CA Governor...."The Terminator" suggested yesterday that he wished people would STOP using fireworks in our state...because of our lack of rain/snow this past winter and how hot and dry it is everywhere....it is the FIRST suggestion from him I am in agreement with!! lol, lol!

All horses setting hooves to tracks today...God's White Light surround they and their riders...run like the wind and come home safe!!

I plan to stop this evening to visit with Mister and Rosie...:) a little while....can't WAIT! Hope my plan materializes! I was on my way home last evening and saw their 'brother', Jimmy...a little Jack Russell out in the street....so I stopped and he came runnnnnnniiiinnnnnnngggggg:) He likes me! He and I squeezed through the front gate and he got back into the safety of his confines/home! Horse Mommy asked if I could visit, but I had NO treats and my car, purse up on road...I declined...HOWEVER, Mister and Rosie were 'pressed' as close to the electric fence down by their pens/stalls eagerly anticipating a visit and carrots...it was soooooo cute!!! :) There they stood...so close to one another, their bodies touching...I shouted to them, showing my hands and the 'no-more, no-more' signal I use with them....they just watched me leaving:( So, I will go back this evening when it's not so blazing HOT armed with treats:) and I will give you a full report in the morning:)

Everyone, have a wonderful day today...be safe, be happy!

Before dawn this morning, as on every other day in the year, backstretch workers brought their children to Anna House to be taken care of while they went off to take care of the horses.

If you'd like to contribute to their care, and at the same time publicize the work of the FoB, please consider donating any amount--$5? $10?--to the FoB ad for the big Saratoga benefit for Anna House. Truly, no amount is too small.

Jane CT,

I had not throught about Mrs. Jackson's rainbow and all the good things now together. I think you are right. I also thought about the rainbow that Stephanie saw over Baby B after she was born. I so wish she would have gotten pics of that. It is nice to see your post.

########
Steve,

We don't have one centralized place, however we do have some horses looking for a monthly sponsor. Theses are horses we have rescued and now need a year to rehab before being put up for adoption. We have maybe 10 FOB's sponsor at $25.00 a piece per month and that pays for the horses board, medicine and feed. If you search for a Thread on the Exceller Fund, I know Take a Chance is looking for sponsors. His story is quite dramatic. Also the Kansas 45 are looking for money. Just search the discussion boards under horse rescues and you will see many good causes. In this way, you can pick which one to give to. Bless you for wanting to contrinute and remmebr if you can't that is ok too. Many FOB's offer support, prayers and good thoughts. Those are just as important.

Happy Fourth of July to you all

I hope as nations we shall all get it right one day and not need Independence Days.

Marg, Harriette, Please, PLEASE take some of our rain it is beginning to get beyond a joke ( not quite, being Brits). Jonna, it is no wonder we all dive for the pub (dive being the operative word at the moment). Rain has stopped play at Wimbledon again, the strawberries are all rotting and it looks likely that George Washington may not run on Saturday because of the rain. Ah well, musn't grumble. Quite unironically, I hope you all have a good day.

The FOB's will be invading Arlington Park on Saturday, August 4th. We need to support this track as it has taken a huge step forward and installed a safer racing surface after a horrible season of accidents last year. This will be a day to celebrate all things Barbaro.

We have 33 FOB's from 3 states who have already indicated their interest in attending.

Total cost is $20.00 and includes:

A Box Seat ticket ($10.00) and a daily racing guide. The seats are under a covered roof.

The other $10.00 will go towards a race we will sponsor and a trophy presentation to the winner. This includes an announcement on the jumbotron, our named race in the program and 6 FOB’s being allowed into the winners circle to award the winner.

Please send MJ42903 an e-mail through teh discussion board indicating that you would like to attend and I will send you more info.

The track is fabulous! Race track info can be found at www.arlingtonpark.com

A day without Joe and Cathy is like a day without chocolate cake--or sun--or water for that matter. God bless them and all they have done--and continue to do--for the horses hither and yon.

Tonight one of my brood bitches will be going nuts if the fireworks go on as scheduled...we had kids playing with cherry bombs for a few minutes last night, and Heart was NOT amused. I swear, she treats us all like her last litter of puppies. She protects us. She must have been a ferocious Mom...the only way to be...

Love to all, take a breath today. Called my local congressman, Jim Walsh to schedule an appointment while he's home. Do you think he's called back yet? Do ya? Huh? Huh? My head hurts.

Angela: looking forward to seeing the Denial judgement for Cavel soon...I will meander over to the DB/Forum/Whatever it is Now Called...

Everyone: remember the rescues need to eat. They need farriers, they need special food, they need meds. Ointments, special bathing, slings, good bedding. We pulled them off the feedlots, out of the hands of the KBs, but it doesn't end there...
This is the future for the FoBs WHEN we defeat the obscenity of Horse Slaughter in the US and prevent it from happening in Mexico and CN.

We made an unspoken promise to the horses, the ponies, the donkeys and mules we rescued...that was to get them on their feet and sustain them till they get their forever homes as we say in greyhound rescue...

And we need to be there for the RESCUERS. We can do this. It's just a little shift in our wallets, if everyone partakes. Think about it...it'll all be OK.

Have a fine day. Hoping for rain for Harriette and in other drought stricken areas, and hoping for clear skies for those places where there has been too much rain...here is is about 70 and cloudy and it will rain later. Yard all poopscooped, blankets in off the fences where they go to dry, so we're ready...

Remember Barbaro, Remember love. He still feels SO NEAR>...here's something I wrote during this year's Preakness weekend...
***************************************************
PREAKNESS 2007

I am Barbaro.
Son of Dynaformer, son of La Ville Rouge.
I am racing all the races today.
Because I can.
Because I know this is what I was made to do.
Because now I am the wind.

I am the ruffle of dark manes, pale manes,
braided manes. I might nuzzle a shoulder as I fly by. I delight in the rush of your polished bodies as I skim over the sand and pass you by....all of you. Because I can.

I am the soft nudge, the breeze,
the lift of saddle cloths as my comrades enter the gate. Turn your heads as that slip of wind lifts your skirts, your ties: I am here, this party is for me.

I will stand, glistening to those who can see me,
shining in the May light, watching as the People I love come. Michael, Gretchen, Roy, Edgar, Peter, Eduardo.

There's Jeanine. I look for Peter, for Alex. For Dr. R. There are all in my heart. No matter if I see them or not. They are always there. Loving me.
There is Michael's little son. I was the first horse he touched. He can probably see me; children have that magic sight.

I know all my frens are with me, and all my new brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. We are a dynasty. We will lift each other up.

Do not be sad.
I am racing all the races today.
Because I can.
Because I know this is what I was made to do.
My heart is bursting with joy.
Because now I am the wind.

Good morning, family -

First, a happy day to Mr. Brown and Mr. Woolley, as well as to Nancy's dad and Liz in the UK, on the anniversary of the American Rebellion. A toast to all of you, and anyone else I may have missed who is a cousin from across the Pond.

Second, 4th of July wishes to Harriette, Jeannette, and all those of Native American descent - including those who, like myself, have microscopic, watered-down traces of the Blood of the Ancestors.

Third, best wishes of the day to all those who have come to our land to help us in the continuing struggle to make this country one of generosity, social justice and inclusion. Welcome.

Safe races, and wings on their heels to all running today on tracks throughout the nation.
And while we remember the horses still suffering in the pipelines to slaughter, as we remember all animals whose lives are affected by poor or thoughtless stewardship on the part of human beings, let us also take a moment to breathe and recall that confronting ALL of any evil is too much for the majority of us to handle. We must, instead, lay our hands to the tasks directly before us, not allowing ourselves to be overwhelmed by the enormity of the sadness in the world around us. There is hope as long as there are good people who are willing to work, and as long as we do not allow fragile compassion to be crushed by the great weight of indifference.

So, as we ache for those who suffer, remember always to recall those who are, in the words of Martita, "in the light" - Misty, and Rosie and the baby B's, the Missouri Horse Heroes, Joe and Cathy's TB Friends - little Ossie, Naysa, the Louisiana mare, little Willie, named for Dawn's dad - the list goes on and on. And we must, for our own sanity, feel their relief as much as we feel the anguish of those still in peril.

I join Susan in Saratoga in toasting the folks on this board.

And I add my thanks, because without this cyber gathering place, I would not be who I am today. Thank you for giving me hope, thank you for giving me a place to feel what I feel here. Stay strong, and be well, all of you.

Love and comfort to all in need, four-legged and two-legged, and have a Barbaro day - courage and kindness!

With love - Jean

Steve B,

There are probably as many rescue philosophies as there are discussions on the DB.
(Discussion Board)

What I have always said is that there are rescues in ALL FIFTY STATES. (Happy Birthday today !)

What I recommend is that you get involved with a rescue near you.

I have contributed to several of the "URGENT" rescues and hopefully, these will start to diminish with the end of slaughter. (I DO get a little tired of all the URGENT calls for help.)

Rescues can scream all they want for money (they need it), but no amount of money will buy what a horse really needs, and that is some companionship and tender loving care.

So I have set up a GIVING PLAN at a rescue nearby. I give a monthly donation. Then I go out to the rescue to volunteer my time. I muck stalls, brush a horse, administer medications, clean water buckets, and help maintain supplies and equipment. Before I leave, I spend half an hour visiting EVERY STALL AND EVERY HORSE. That way I know they have ALL gotten some human contact that day !

If we ALL work with rescues in our own states, I think these "URGENT" calls for help will start to become less urgent.

As I said, I, too, have responded to several of these calls, but I still support a local rescue EVERY MONTH.

Barb,AZ....I couldn't agree more with you!!

There are no rescues in my County..but I saw a story on Channel 3 out of Sacramento in December regarding six pregnant mares and two other horses and how children connected to The Grace Foundation of NO.CA got involved...those kids raised just under $4,000.00 in a WEEK...they went door to door, they asked relatives...they even held a car wash...in DECEMBER....brrrrrrr! The horses and unborn foals were saved and so were the other two...that meant they had saved FOURTEEN horses:)

Since that story ran, I have donated each month whatever I am able to Beth DiCaprio and the Grace Foundation...Beth is the 'farm manager'....she recently sent an e-mail and I was astounded to read their feed bill each month is $12,000.00!!!
Needless to say, I will continue donating all I can to help! The Grace Foundation is located in Folsom, CA. They have a 600+acre facility there and they use the horses to help emotionally and physically and mentally handicapped children.

Anyone interested can visit their web site at www.thegracefoundationofnorcal.org :)

And peeples, we MUST remember to support horse rescues! And soon, hopefully, no more rescues..or at least not so many and then we can devote our time/energy/resources to feeding them, making sure they have proper medical attention and helping find good and loving homes which they all SO deserve:)

According to the DB, the circuit court has DENIED
Cavel's appeal ! ! ! ! ! !

Thank you God, thank you God, thank you God
A present like this, independence for the horses in a way, on Independence Day. Happy July 4th.

I know we're working hard to stop transportation to Canada and Mexico, and anywhere! , and we must pass S311 and Hr503.
BUT FOR NOW

ON INDEPENDENCE DAY- let us give thanks and celebrate this win in court for which so many have for so long fought so hard .

I wish each and everyone the happiest fourth ever, and may you be with family, friends, and be happy today.
I thanks our forefathers for their foresight and the blessings they have given us through the Declaration and also the Constitution.

FOBs I love you, Americans I love you.
Barbaro, BBH, I love you most of all and thank you for leading us to this and in the future, leading us on to victory.

JEAN NOLAN - you are so kind to remember that my dad was born "across the pond." He jokingly refers to Americans as "bloody colonials" and at age 90 he can get away with it!

###
LYNNE BROWN - cheers for Ahhhhhnold...finally! It's very dry here in CT, although thunderstorms are predicted tonight which will likely foul up many of the fireworks displays. I have no problem with the "official" fireworks displays put on by the cities and towns here because the Fire Department is ever-present. However, the doggone kids in the neighborhoods who get their hands on some powerful stuff really scare me...sparks on the roof or into the trees signal a nightmare in the making!

WATCH PAMIE'S LATEST VIDEO...some of the scenes are tough indeed, but tempered by other scenes of incredible beauty and kindness!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, FOBS! I hope each of you is enjoying this day and taking a moment to think about all you have accomplished already. There's no stopping you. I am proud to be among you, knowing that we will accomplish our goals in Barbaro's memory. As great as our accomplishments will be, they cannot match his greatness and his power. But we honor him with our accomplishments. We are his voice and the voice of the horses.

Re-post:

I wish all of you a happy fourth, and I always say, beware the fifth ! (Don't party TOO much!)

This week, ACCORDING TO OUR STRATEGY (see Debra and Shelley's posts,) I have scheduled a visit with my own U.S. Representative here in Arizona.

A couple of weeks ago, I met with the Chief of Staff in his office. I DIDN'T know that at the time ! (I probably would have been a little more nervous!) I took in all my horse medications that I use frequently. Most of them clearly state, "Not for use in animals intended for food." Well, no DUH ! Horses aren't raised for food !

So, I am gathering up all my meds again to go in on Thursday.

I STRONGLY recommend that you try to get in to see your own Senator or Representative. What does the word "representative" suggest to you? It means that this person REPRESENTS the people of his/her district. He/she should be willing to meet with you !

If you can't get in this week, PLEASE ask them when the Congressman will be back in town. Congress is adjourned in August, and I suspect that they would be spending at least part of that time in their own district.

Now, if you haven't joined a state calling group, THIS WOULD BE THE TIME.

GET OUT THERE !

The Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit issued a ruling yesterday on Cavel's appeal. Essentially, the court punted the issue back to Judge Kapala. The Court determined that Judge Kapala erred in concluding that he lacked jurisdiction to rule on the merits of the motion for a preliminary junction. The Court of Appeals states: "The district court is ordered to proceed to a ruling on the merits of the preliminary injunction motion and to final judgment."

So, we go back to Judge Kapala. He will have to rule on whether Cavel gets to re-open pursuant to their motion for preliminary injunction. I don't think he has ruled on this issue yet, because he said he didn't have jurisdiction. Now we have to wait and see what Judge Kapala will do.

### Bobbie B:

I agree. We must, step up the campaign, on two current fronts:

HR503/S311, and OPPOSINH Section 123 of the Amendment to the 2007 Farm Bill.

But there is another ground-swell that we need to begin to act upon now...and that is, State by State.

We should begin to contact our Governors and State Legislators, to write law prohibiting transport of slaughter-bound equines into-out of, and through every state...especially the States bordering Canada, Texas, and Mexico.

Cavel's appeal DENIED! Thank God! But the race is just past the first turn...a long race yet to run.

## Elizabeth Thompson, thank you for clarifying the ruling for us. I pray Judge K. will rule for the horses!

##Barb AZ, I don't want to open my mouth around them when they speak that beautiful speech. However, they seem to love my Southern speech so I get along!

## Otherlyn, you said it so much better than I and , it is so true. Your idea for state action is brilliant ( hard, but Brilliant!)
Sort of cut'em off at the pass while we wait for the national bill to stop all transportation. It's possible some of us would have more immediate success with our local and state reps.

On the other hand, we can't risk splitting our forces and some of us can only do so much with what time we have. Others can do more and have more time , so I think this is a great idea for those who can invest their time. Way to go.BB

###Good morning Alex and Tim and thank you once again for all you do for us on this board.

###I rode my OTTB this morning and he was celebrating his very own independence day, being a total pooty as I practiced (or tried to practice) for my dressage lesson Friday.

He tries to talk me out of taking a good contact and riding him forward, and I apparently am not letting him talk me into giving up so easily because he was NOT happy there for awhile. Kept insisting I was NOT playing fair.

Poor devil.

###Have a good, safe, sane, and Happy Fourth of July everyone, and all horses and jockeys come home safe.

###Keep cool too--over 106 here in the Mojave Desert. Ack.

Jean Nolan,

There are NO words to describe how cute and precious Punky is.

The bad news is that she is starting to act like her MOM Chunky ! (I don't mean to say that she is sleeping around, yet !)

Yesterday evening when we went out to feed, she CHARGED at my daughter ! My daughter wasn't born yesterday (WHEW ! ! !) so she knew what to do. She dodged and grabbed a lead rope and smacked Punky on the butt ! (Please don't report us for horse abuse. ANY time you smack them, it doesn't HURT them. It is more the mental image you give them that YOU are the boss, not them. In the case of a crop, as long as you smack them on the butt, it is the noise which does the job. After a few times with a crop, you usually don't even need to use it. If you just carry it, they change their attitude.)

I don't like to see my daughter in harms way, but I MUST confess that it was funny ! Punky is STILL quite small because of her pony breeding. I doubt she could have done much harm to my daughter, but ears pinned back was just too funny !

So today, since we are all off work, we are going to work with Punky.

SHE IS A DOLL ! Just too cute for words. She is three and a half months old and needs to be taught some manners NOW while she is still small.

Chunky on the other hand has mellowed considerably. She doesn't much care about us loving on Punky anymore. She used to be quite protective, but she is nearing the time when she will start the weaning process, and the motherly instinct to protect diminishes as the foal grows up.

Happy Fourth to all.

Today, as we celebrate our freedom, we must not forget that our horses are not free.
And yes, today there was great news about Cavel! Yet, we must continue to campaign to end horse slaughter and get the federal legislation passed. Our horses continue to suffer as they are transported across our borders.

We have all "together" accomplished much to be proud of. This is your dream, my dream, and the American horse dream. No matter what anyone tells you, we can do this and make this happen. I thought the lyrics below were appropriate for today. Happy 4th FOB's...in honor of Barbaro.

by Marina Mcbride

You can spend your whole life building
Something from nothin'
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway

You can chase a dream
That seems so out of reach
And you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway

God is great
But sometimes life ain't good
And when I pray
It doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway

This world's gone crazy
It's hard to believe
That tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway

You can love someone with all your heart
For all the right reasons
In a moment they can choose to walk away
Love 'em anyway

God is great
But sometimes life ain't good
And when I pray
It doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
Yea - I do it anyway

You can pour your soul out singing
A song you believe in
That tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway
Yea - sing it anyway

I sing, I dream, I love Anyway

Happy Fourth, Fambleeeee

Thanks again, Alex, for sharing your morning and the cool image of Miss Nautical Agent's impression of a Lipizzaner. I would truly love to see that.

Victory is so sweet. Another step forward to the permanent closure of slaughter houses. What a great thing to celebrate this Holiday.

If my famblee members could please send some good thoughts to little BC, a 17 year old kidden with the world's sweetest voice and softest purr, it would be appreciated. She's failing. Her daddy is trying hard to help her to feel better, but he's not very hopeful, and that's devastating to him. He helps so many, it seems so wrong that he can't help his own, despite his best efforts. If she's ready to go to hevvin, please think of him. It's going to be very hard to let her go

Thank you

Love to all

Cheryl: sending out courage for BC's Dad the Vet, and of course for you too. We all know too well, that in this acxt, practice does not make perfect, or immune or unaffected. It just simply never gets easier.

That little life that filled you with such joy and happiness and yes, worry too: taking that little life away is torture.I almost always feel as if I am going to just black out when the beloved closes their eyes, and then open them back as they die.

A wonderful Vet--a truly gifted and wonderful Vet, once told me that animals open their eyes when they die, because (get this...) UNLIKE PEOPLE, THEY ARE NOT AFRAID TO SEE GOD. So they enter HeavEn with their eyes wide open.

It still kills me when I think of this. Tell the good Doc. It might ease some of his clients like me 100 years ago when I would try in vain to close the sightless eyes of my beloved dogs, not being able to bear the look of those wonderful orbs which once held so much mirth, so much spirit, so much love--to see the light extinguished...all for me...So I will always be grateful to the Good Dr. Robinson for her kind, kind words to me that day/and have shared them with many people over the years.

May little BC be greeted with great ceremony when she ascends to the heavens...much purring may be mistaken for thunder, you know...

I am with you, so many of us are...with affection: jonna in ny

If you are spending the holiday alone, please don't feel "alone" because we are FOBs and we are all united together in spirit no matter where we are.
Holding hands, paws, hooves, "feets", wings . . with "all creatures great and small" all over the world and those already over the Rainbow Bridge.

Barbaro, Fog, Secretariat, Ruffian . . . . all of you must be having big old-fashioned water balloon fights up there today for I think several of you must have dumped your water troughs over - been getting downpours every few hours, though I am soooo praying that Harriette your area is getting some, too!!

My heart beats for your heart, Barbaro, always and forever. Run with the angels honey! I love you soooo very much. I still want to kiss that pink spot on your nose!
The spearmint tea growing in a corner of my flower gardens is extra beautiful this year - I think of your yummy green mints every time I brush past and take in the aroma.

SOCORRO - your post from this morning is so lovely, you touched my heart today and I am sure many more, too!

BARB AZ - loved the Chunky & Punky report!!! :)

HARRIETTE - I thought of something . . . is there any way possible you can include the Navajo Healing Chant in your book . . . just a thought.

Those of you who go to these auctions to save the horses from being slaughtered, all I can say in wow. You are all amazing people. I came accross some pics of horses that were unable to be saved and I can't get them out of my head. It tears me apart to know that their are people out there that can do that to a horse or any animal. All I can do is thank god you are out there doing what you can.

Barb--thanks for responding. I found a place that rescues horses. It's a two hour drive but it will be worth every minute. They will get back to me in a couple days. Thanks!

Again to all of you thank you for what you are all doing.

For those of you who may not have read my very first post here, it has always been very diffucult for me to deal with animals who have been abused and neglected. Now I'm dealing with being slaughtered. I never knew until I came to this site and read one of the books about Barbaro. I always wanted to do something to help but never knew what, until Barbaro brought me to all of you.

Everone have a good 4th.

YOU"LL ALWAYS BE #1 BARBARO

Happy Fourth of July, Famblee! How fitting that the 7th Circuit chose this holiday time to do the right thing!!!! The ball is back in Judge Kapala's courtroom, and I hope he can take the hint.

Great news about dear Funny Cide's victory. How can you not smile for Funny???

Tim, enjoy your famblee visit!

Barb AZ, thanks for the update on Misses Punky and Chunky!

Cate, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope little Papillion soon realizes how beautiful life is.

Cheryl J, my friend, and DB, my heart goes out to you both. Please give little BC a gentle touch from me, Lizzie, and little no-name, and tell her Felix will be there for her when her time does come. He'll show her all the best napping places, and have a freshly stuffed catnip sock for her, and they can curl up together in the sun.

Please check the birthday thread on the DB (under "Barbaro") for a very special member of Barbaro's team. It is a repeat of last year. This year will be bittersweet. . . .

Hello.........this may already have been posted here, but in case not, does anyone know anything
about a horse that was bot at New Holland auction
last week, but now appears to be missing or stolen.

He (Bandit) had to be left at auction for about 3 hrs until his hauler could get there to pick him up. When trailer arrived, no horse.

Please go to DB under missing stolen horse please help.

Thanks for any help in getting this horse back.

Just enjoyed a wonderful segment on: CBS Evening News ..... showing the horses: "Wiley and Minnie" - of the Caisson Platoon (used for military funerals, normally) - out of Ft. Meyer, Virginia ........... showing a female and male soldier ..... wounded in Iraq - missing limbs - restoring their balance and well being - by riding horses. It's a great program - and was well done. BRAVO to CBS News for their timely story.
