Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc AKA Angel Acres is a registered 501(c)3 Non Profit organization dedicated to rescuing horses bound for slaughter for human consumption. We are located in York County, PA and have been rescuing since January 2004.
We do have a need for foster families, if anyone is interested please drop us a note! We are a temporary shelter that houses babysitter permanent rescue horses. Most horses are adopted out in under 2 months, some in a few days, others will take longer to place.
All adopters are screened carefully for suitability and we strive for a good match between adopter and horse. We stand behind each and every horse we adopt out.
The vast majority of horses we rescue are pulled from the killer pen at New Holland. We concentrate on thoroughbreds but will rescue other breeds as the need arrives.
We are available for visiting by appointment. We need volunteers to groom, walk, pick feet, muck stalls, throw hay and on and on and on.
We strive to raise public awareness, daily! We work with two girl scout troops, speak before groups, and make ourselves as visible to the public as possible.

Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc. works with other rescues around the country. We work with Mid Atlantic Horse Rescue, Shiloh Horse Rescue & Sanctuary (Angel Acres Helps out Shiloh HR!), Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program and several private rescues.
The FOB's have been extremely helpful in the care of Mattie Reg Name: Mattsbrotherrobert an 11 year old TB gelding who was saved on January, 29th 2007. The day the nation lost Barbaro. He is suffereing from the debiliating illness of laminitis (founder). With the strong support of the FOB's and the Friends of Twilight we have been able to save Mattie, full recovery is not expected until last summer, and give him some normalcy and a chance at life.
The FOB's were also the saviour of 4 New Holland bound TB mares. Literally cast away by their owner because they wanted to be out of the business, with no regard for their well-being.
I will update more soon...I have to feed lunch to the gang...
Feedback from FOBs
Our first FOB visit resulted in the adoption (pending) of two of our geldings! I call that a great success!
Our next FOB visit will be tomorrow at 11:30 am (May 18, 2007). We will post tomorrow about their visit. They are coming to see Mattie!
