Bio
I am a freelance video producer from Northwest New Jersey. I do mostly corporate videos, but have worked at a small television station early in my career. I am married to a great guy (Andy-also in the video biz), and we have a great dog. Landy (the dog) is a golden retriever/shepherd mix and he's almost 8 years old.
He's the first dog I've ever had, and I've become an animal lover because of him. He's sweet (the golden in him) and very protective (the shepherd), and he's also very smart. But I could go on and on about Landy, as he is my baby, and I spoil him pretty bad. Not having pets growing up, I truly believed I missed out on alot, and Landy has really awakened me.
I have a passion for gardening, and have had a "work in progress" garden for the last 5 years. My absolute favorite flower is the hydrangea, although I haven't been able to grow a hydrangea bush yet that is worthy of bragging about. The weather in NJ can be iffy for hydrangeas, and sometimes the buds cannot take freezing temperatures in the winter, which results in a hydrangea bush with beautiful green leaves, but without blooms, which is not the point at all.
I'm also a huge New York Mets fan, which began for me at the age of 10, when I'd prefer to sit with my dad and watch a game on TV, over playing with my friends. I've been with them through their ups(few) and their downs(many). I guess I like to root for the underdog.
I fell in love with Barbaro, on May 6, 2006. I fell deeper in love with Barbaro on Preakness Day. I found TWR.com the evening of the Preakness, and have visited the site every day since then. I still do not know what is was about Barbaro that drew me in. I do know that Barbaro has changed my life in many ways--all good, and that I've even thought about owning a horse for the first time in my life. I've learned so much about horses from TWR, and I value all the information that is available to us who visit the site.
Horse experience
The only time I've been on anything equine was when I was 10 years old, at camp, and all the kids got to ride on the back of a pony and be lead around a field. I'm seriously thinking about taking riding lessons, although I have a fear of heights, and lower back issues. But if I don't do it now, when will I ever do it, right?
6-14-08 Update: I'm so excited to report that as of today, I went on my first trail ride in Vermont. I was on the sweetest mare, named Tonka, and I loved every minute of it. I kept talking to her during the ride, telling her what a good girl she was, and patting her neck. The ride lasted an hour, and I can't wait to do it again.
FOB activities
I've participated in many activities to support Barbaro, as well as his connections and fellow FOB's. A few: carrot baskets for Barbaro, Dr. R's birthday, Dr. R's artwork by Anna, Edgar's birthday, Eduardo's birthday, several Missouri Horse Rescue initiatives (organized by Rosemary (Gannonrose), Barbaro's Memorial Bench at New Bolton Center, and the Barbaro and Laminitis Fund at New Bolton Center.
I'm also the producer of the Barbaro Celebration at Del Park DVD, also known as "Because of Barbaro." I've received the most wonderful feedback from the FOB's who have received their DVD's, and the experience of producing the DVD as well as marketing it and selling it, has been nothing short of fantastic. The FOB's are a terrific, kind, and very generous group of people, and I so enjoyed reading everyone's notes enclosed with their payments, as well as the emails I've received with kind compliments. I also received personal phone calls from Rachel at Kennett Square Florist, and Dr. Corrine Sweeney of New Bolton Center, to thank me for making the DVD. DVD of Del Park Celebration
Besides the wonderful feedback, I take great pride in knowing that the proceeds of the DVD will benefit the Laminitis Fund at New Bolton Center. I can't think of a better way to honor Barbaro's legacy.
FOB Network
I'm a frequent visitor to the TWR chatroom, which is a great place to be. We chat about everything under the sun, especially Barbaro, but often about food and recipes, movies, and animals in general. It's just a very enjoyable environment, where everyone has a great deal of respect for everyone. We always welcome new "chatters" with open arms. Just be careful when you see Wendy in the chatroom, as we call her "the Hammer", and we must be on extra good behavior when she's present ;)
I met many wonderful FOB's at the Del Park Celebration of Barbaro's life. I'll name a few, and hope I don't leave anyone out: Sharon Crumb and Frank, Grandma Bea, Harriette, Ken Z, Julie Z, Wendy U, Jenny E, Smartycat, GloriaIL, LaurieH (tuck-in Laurie), LeslieMN, Debbie from MS, Ann, Megan, Joseph, Deb, LindaW (and hubby), NancyW (and hubby), Mary Anna (the Barbaro hat lady), ShelleyA, DebraL, LindaS(nyc), Ronnie (nyc), Alie and Rachel from Kennett Florist, and of course the infamous Alex Brown.
