I live in Michigan and am blessed with a wonderful family, both human and equine. I work as an oncology nurse at a hospital in Grand Rapids.
Horse experience
Share a little about your horse experiences.
I have loved horses and have been around them for as long as I can remember. I have owned horses for about 20 years, and my equine family consists of a 28 y/o pony mare, an 18 y/o OTTB, a 16 y/o Morgan, a 14 y/o QH, and my most recent "rescue", an 8 y/o OTTB....the latter four all geldings. When I had more time...long ago!...I barrel raced, but now I enjoy trail rides with whomever is the easiest to catch on that particular day. I adore each of them.
FOB activities
Identify rescues you support, other activities you have undertaken on TWR sites, what you have learned through following Barbaro and FOBs etc.
I became involved with CANTER-Michigan, the founding chapter, when the organization was only three years old. A few years later I became a board member, and I continued in that role until my very recent resignation in April 2008.
I am passionate about horse welfare issues and the anti-slaughter movement. But I have a special place in my heart for the racing Thoroughbred, and that is what continues to drive me in my efforts to be an advocate for them.
I am so uplifted when I see all that has been done, and continues to be done, for horses because of this site and those that visit and support it.
My favorite saying is, and I wish I could credit the author...
"Saving one horse might not change the world, but it will change THAT horse's world!"

It was my privilege to work with in the days leading up to, and to spend the day with Joy on Good Friday, 2008, when we did our Shipshewana save from the direct to slaughter sale. Even though she was disturbed by what she saw, having never experienced anything like Shipshewana before, she waded right in, pitching in to help with whatever needed to be done, and was kind enough to provide transport for two extra horses to their forever home, despite a raging spring blizzard moving in, and being faced with the prospect of having to drive right through it..... She is truly a champion of the horses, and someone that I'm very proud to know, and call my friend.
