Bio

My name is Janet Lacetera and my alias on the ABR is Brambles. My husband and I, and all my critters live on the remains of an old farm in MD. I live across the road from Duncale Farm, down the street from Pons Thoroughbred Nursery and 2 miles, as the crow flies, from Olney Equine Training Center. So I live in a little horse country enclave surrounded by suburbia.

I have a Masters degree in Mathematics from The Johns Hopkins University. I was a Branch Chief of weapons concept development at the Army Research Laboratory. Currently I am the Senior Scientist for FastTrack Technologies, Inc.

I love all animals, even unpleasant ones. Because of my health, I now only have cats and wild critters who come to stay a spell with me, have a good meal and rest and leave when they wish.

Horse experience

I used to have horses of my own, but developed Rheumatoid Arthritis sufficiently severe that I can no long care for them. All my horses have been placed in good homes and all have trust funds in my will.

FOB activities

I have always followed thoroughbred racing, and I was deeply touched by the life and death of Barbaro. I had read about the Fans of Barbaro in the Bloodhorse and on a whim googled the name and found the ABR website and rescue forum. After reading several of the threads, I felt the need to join and help rescue abused and unwanted horse from slaughter. I am not affiliated with any single rescue and I try to help where I can. I particularly like helping save a horse and then becoming part of that particular horse’s support system.

I am Auntie to several FOB horses: Willow. Roxanna (now deceased) and Robie at Frog Pond, Magic at Beauty’s Haven, Shaiman at Horse Feathers Farm in NY, Renae and Lilly at Horse House. I dedicate my rescue work to the memory of Wilson (my own special OTTB), Ruffian and Barbaro and my beloved FOB Percheron mare, Princess Brianna. I am not affiliated with any one rescue. My favorite thing is to be allowed to name a rescue horse and then buy them clothing and presents.

FOB Network

I love working with the folks on the rescue forum. I have some very special soul mates who have worked with me on difficult rescues and helped me when I have felt especially sad or frustrated by the cruelty and human indifference we all see. I have special Rescue soul mates who have taken in animals that I have fallen in love with and never raised a question. You know who you are and how much you mean to me.
