Bio I am a 48 year old mother of three ages 16, 19, and 21. I am an architectural draftsperson by profession. I started to follow Barbaro after visiting Three Chimney's Farm (most of you probably know that is where Barbaro's sire is). I was having a wonderful tour seeing such horses as Smarty Jones and Point Given when someone on the tour asked the guide who she thought would win the Derby. She replied, "I hope one ours, we have two running this year and their names are Point Determined and Barbaro." Well, I wrote down both names and vowed I would watch the Derby that May. Watch I did, and was so impressed with Barbaro's win and of course, I also watched the Preakness. I have always watched some of the Triple Crown Races but, had never really followed racing very closely. I got hooked on the NTRA website as it had continual update on Barbaro, but, in doing that, I also became a real fan of horse racing. It was a nice to have a distraction at that time because I was going through a very difficult time in my life. I really felt like the race horses helped me come out of a depressing situation and now I would like to give back in some way. Winston Churchill was so right when he said "There is something about the outside of a horse that makes the inside of a person feel good." The equines deserve our protection for all that they do for us!!!
Horse experience When I turned 9 I fell in love with horses and started taking riding lessons. My parents then bought me my first horse, a lovely Arab/Quarter mare named Tammy. After a couple years I decided I wanted to show Quarter Horses so, we sold Tammy and bought Charkey and I rode and showed him for about four years and then he need to be retired for soundness issues. Charkey became a companion horse and I got Hank another Quarter Horse and rode and showed him until I went to college and sold him to my sister-in-law where he lived out a happy life until the age of 35!
FOB activities I am in the process of sponsering an OTTB who resides at a rescue operation in Minnesota called mnhoovedanimalrescue. At some point I intend to adopt an OTTB from this operation but, with two children in college, I just don't have the money to support a horse. I would like to help the cause in some other ways. I am open to suggestions.
FOB Network I would love to meet some other FOB's in my area. I am in Western Wisconsin very near the Minneapolis/St.Paul area.
