Hello to all,
I have decided to start a new thread to make a fresh start to help Winging Cat Rescue save kitties lives. We rescue from Spaulding, Heard and Douglas Animal Controls.
Our Short term Goals: As a licensed rescue, our mission is to save Cats and Kittens from Death Row, place them in Foster care for adoption, and to transport to No-Kill Shelters or Cat Sanctuaries. In 2006 we rescued over 600 cats and kittens and as of September 28 2007 we have rescued nearly 400.
Our Long Term Goals: The Cat population explosion is of epidemic proportions. We are hoping to increase public awareness of this problem and to establish a low-cost Spay/Neuter Program for area residents of Spalding County.
Although we are located nationwide, we have focused (but not exclusive to) an Animal Control Pound in Griffin Georgia. This pound uses inhumane Gas Chambers as their method of "euthanasia".
Before WCR came along, Spalding Animal Control euthanasia rate was 95% for all cats. Since WCR, it has dropped to 5%-10%. We estimate we have saved over 800 cats and kittens since October 2005. And several hundred from other Georgia gassing pounds as well. We know we have been making a difference.
We have also sponsored the first EVER low-cost Spay Neuter mobile clinics in Spalding County in hopes that at some point the numbers of unwanted litters will be lessened.
We rely solely on the generosity of private donations to support Vetting, Boarding and Transport of all rescued Cats. (5013c Status pending).
