Description of Rescue
We are a 501c{3}, registered charity, whose mission is to save Premarin mares and foals from slaughter. We purchase them from the ranchers who have lost their Premarin contracts prior to the ranchers 'shipping them' - a term relating to sending them directly to the killer buyers. We transport these rescues to our ranch in New River, where we gentle them and teach them. These horses are wild, having never been touched by human hands. The Premarin mares will live their lives with us, thereby preventing their being bred again. Many of these mares have had foals every year since they were three years old. The foals are gentled and trained. and then adopted into qualified, forever homes. We have stringent adoption requirements, adoption contracts, and adoption agreements. All of the animals our housed at our ranch; no foster homes are used. We use gentle methods of earning trust and training, and it is done on the horses' timetable, not ours.
We have hosted groups of homeschooled children, 4-H children and young adults, and alternative high school students. We know that education is the base of change and enlightenment, and we attend rescue events in order to continue to educate the public. We also do presentations at schools and clubs, and are working on a program for underprivileged children.
We are dependent on donations and sponsors in order to help us feed and maintain our horses. We currently have 33 horses here, 15 of which are sanctuary horses. There are five weanlings who are adopted, but are boarded here for further foundation training was we work with them and their owners.
Our facility is run by my daughter and myself, and a core of dedicated volunteers. We welcome visitors as well as more volunteers. This is a haven for horses and those who love them and sacrifice for them.
