Background Information
Fancy <appaloosa mare> was saved from Ebensburg 04/21/07. When we first found Fancy she was alone, in a hot trailer, with no water or food. She was just standing there chewing the paint chips off the inside of that trailer awaiting her fate. There was no discussion, we knew she must come to the farm with us.
Upon arrival Fancy immediately showed us some appy-tude which we believed to be a good sign. She tossed her head and tried nipping at everyone. At first, we believed she was completely blind, but soon found that she could in fact see and distinguish from certain objects. Although, much weaker in her left eye than her right. She circled her stall for what seemed like an eternity not once laying down.
We tackled each setback as it came, but in the end Fancy lost her battle. But not until after she had stolen our hearts. She got the chance to be a lead mare again. As we envision her now over the rainbow bridge I still see her feisty appy-tude and unwillingness to admit defeat.
Fancy was humanely euthanized while gently laying with her head in my lap. The last words she heard were momma telling her to be a good girl and we will play some more tomorrow. I plan on keeping this promise and seeing my girl again.
