About Me

I am a retired school teacher from Northeast Ohio. I taught British Literature, Film Studies, Journalism and Speech and Drama to junior and senior high school students. I supervised every extra-curricular at one time or another with the exception of sports. I live on a five acre farm with my two Jack Russell Terriers, Bella and Gracie. After 35 years of teaching, I am now embarking on educating myself in all areas of the horse industry. I now have the time to do what I want to do and give back a little to the horses who have given so much to me over the years. I love to collect things. I have an extensive Seabiscuit, Secretariat and now Barbaro collection. I also love Amish quilts and Amish-made vintage dolls, the old ones. I am passionate about antiquing. I taught a film class in high school and I am a movie buff who adores Steven Spielberg. These days I am owned by two of the silliest, yet most lovable Jack Russell Terriers. They are the joys of my life. Bella is a rough coat Jack and Gracie is an Irish puddin Jack, short and stocky, who came to me on a jet from County Galway, Ireland. She was so tiny that we couldn't find her in all the shredded paper in her crate.

Once a Horse Girl, Always a Horse Girl

Since the days of Gene and Roy and Hoppy and Fury, I have always been mesmerized by the sight of a horse. When I was five, my dad bought me a saddle and I rode the back of the sofa or my dad's knee while watching my favorite horses on TV. For some girls, they trade in their boots for makeup and heels, not me. I bought my first horse the day I got my teaching job. His name was Gannon and he was a nine year old Percheron/Thoroughbred event horse. He was the best, a big grey full of dark grey dapples. He was a babysitter so his nickname was Nanna. He taught me to hunt and jump and basic dressage. He was the best trail horse. He always made me look good. Two years later I bought April Pride, a registered half quarter horse/half thoroughbred 2year old mare. I saw her the day she was born and I told the owner that as soon as I put in another stall and had a little more income, I would come to get her. She was a fiery chestnut who basically went to shows in halter divisions and just looked good. She was trained as a hunter and I showed Gannon and April over a ten year period. They both lived to be in their thirties. They are now buried in their pasture under apple trees planted just for them. I have not been able to get another horse because of my osteo/rheumatoid arthritis. My memories get me through a lot of bad days. They still own my heart to this day. So now I am helping horses who need help and getting my daily fix of horses through TWR. I was the little girl who always dreamed of horses, and I don't think I ever grew up.

Fan of Barbaro Forever

I have been very active in organizing the MO Horse Heroes fundraisers. Since Christmas we have raised almost 20,000 dollars for them. These horses were saved from certain slaughter because of a horrific accident on I-44 in Missourilast September. Their story has haunted me since the day it happened and I have made a promise to Barbaro to help them in any way I can until they all have forever homes. We have had Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter and Mother's Day fund raisers so far and now I just completed work on a Father's Day fundraiser for Mr. Roy Jackson. Fans of Barbaro have been marvelous in their support of these courageous horses.

These horses have been through so much and they shine like a beacon of hope for all horses in need. They are all miracles to be here today. I am totally commited to them until they have all been adopted. I also help with other rescues like MHR and Second Chance. I am also part of the Ohio Herd, working to close the slaughter houses in America. Every FOB activity that comes along, I try to participate in, whether it is the bench for New Bolton, Dr. Richardson, Michael Matz, Eduardo, and now Edgar Prado's birthday. There is a lot to be involved in as a Fan of Barbaro. I contribute steadily to New Bolton's Friends of New Bolton, the Barbaro Fund and the fund for Laminitis research. TWR and Barbaro have opened a whole new world to me and I am grateful.

Fellow Fans of Barbaro, a Second Family

I have been privileged to meet so many wonderfully generous Fans of Barbaro through the MO Horse Heroes fund raisers. These folks come back month after month to support these horses. They are generous and giving people, who not only give to the MO Horses but other rescues as well. I see their names over and over again. I feel that I have become a better person for meeting these people through Barbaro and the MO Horse Heroes. We are approaching the one year anniversary of the MO accident and FOBs like Glenda Jo and Regalmrj are offering their artistry to make this a very special fundraiser. Generosity knows no bounds here on TWR. From California to Panama, my world has enlarged because of the wonderful people I have met. I feel I am "home" when I log on to TWR. ShelleyA has opened up a world of racing to me through her horses. Her enthusiasm for ending horse slaughter this year is contagious. Wendy and her photo journals make me feel like I am at events like the Kentucky Derby. Mary L is always there for help with photo and computer related issues, which is a job in itself. And of course, there is Alex who has opened up a whole wonderous world to all of us.

Rosemary, Are your doggies spoiled or what!? I love Jack Russell terriers. I have a picture with my wirehaired fox terrier taken many years ago. He too wore sunglasses to pose. My cats would never tolerate costumes! Great site, my friend Deborah M23

Hi Rosemary! I am finally getting around to trying out this wiki thing.. a slow start lol! Your page looks great! And you had a horse "April"? How cool! They both are absolutely beautiful!
