General's Story

General arrived at my farm as a CANTER Midatlantic horse that I was to board. I started retraining him after he had a month to settle in and put on some weight and muscle. In the beginning, General was very timid. He was scared of everything around the farm, the jumps, the ring and leary of people. I took my time with daily work just getting him used to everything and he eventually started to trust. He was a very funny horse because he seemed not to remember all the work you had done the day before and it was like I had to start over. He was terrified of jumps..wouldn't even walk over a ground pole in the beginning but I just kept plugging away. We had a lot of refusals but I kept the jumps low enough that he could just walk and trot over them without scaring himself. I believe it was about month three when he finally started to jump without refusing or getting upset. Once he got confident he was amazing! Knees to his chin and a huge jump. Month five I had started showing him in the local hunters in the 2'6" division and he won every single jumping class I entered him in. He was sold to a junior rider who is now competing him in the hunters. I get frequent email updates with pictures and they love him!
