Bio
My name is Katie, I am 26 years old and live in Whitehouse, Ohio. I have lived in this area my entire life with the exception of one year that I spent in Clermont, Florida.
Horse experience
I have ridden and shown horses for the last 20 years, so I guess it is safe to say that I have spent a majority of my life around horses. My show experience ranges from 4-H to the AQHA circuit with the last 10 years of show career being dedicated to hunter/jumper shows ranging from MHJA to OHJA to AHJA to USEF. In my spare time I am an assistant coach to an area high school equestrian team and an assistant 4-H advisor. Throughout my riding career I have had the opportunity to ride many different horses and have learned something from each and every one of them. I have found that I prefer hunter/jumpers and barrel horses (two opposite ends of the spectrum, I know!). Though I enjoy showing, I prefer riding and conditioning/training to being in the show ring. I teach over fences lessons and also work with riders with disabilities. I currently work at the farm where I keep my OTTB, cleaning stalls and caring for the horses along with teaching riding lessons while I finish my bachelor's degree in education. My ultimate dream is to eventually have my own place where I can have several OTTBs at any given time to retrain and then resell to loving homes.
FOB activities
I recently purchased my OTTB through the CANTER Ohio organization from a trainer in southern Ohio. I would love to help out in any way possible through rescue operations. While I do not currently have a place where I can foster horses, I would gladly volunteer to help in other ways, such as attending auctions to provide a helping hand, researching information, etc.
