Sage's gallop was smooth as air. Nothing better than her gallop at the beach. She was 23 in this photo.

Current photo of Sage at 31 years old trotting around the pasture. She is still a beautiful mover.

Sage (Registered Name: Missy Dale) wants everyone to know that Thorougbreds can live a long and healthy life! She came to me with a photo of her from 1979 on the track at Caldera. The story told of her is that she moved from Florida to California and then up to Oregon. Sage's 5 generation pedigree includes Man O' War. Not many living horses can say that:) Link to her pegigree: http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=horse&search_bar=&h=MISSY+DALE&g=5&p=0&f=1&l=

She has done may things since she left the track: Dressage, jumping, Girl Scout camps, galloping on the beach, and even a few camping trips! She is a bit of a fiesty character. She prefers good footing to river rock. She retired from being ridden at 28 years old and now serves as team leader to the other horses she lives with. Not to mention posing for many great photos. I didn't get her until she was 22 years old, so if anyone coming across her on this site knows any more about her, I would love to know.

To see more of Sage check out her Flickr site.[1] Here is a short story I wrote about her:

Sage

She was a feisty character. Her eyes deep brown, expressive. In a look, you knew what she meant. She was distant, self-preserved. She came from a fine family, Which made her desirable. She had moved from coast to coast. Had many jobs. And been good at them.

Her eye told the story. In a moment’s flash, You could see she remembered something. Not always good. She kept her distance, not physically. But she kept her soul to herself. That was how she stayed safe. She’d move again, another new home. How many more would there be?

Her eye told the story. She’d settle in, learn the ropes. Do the job. Not always happily, but always well. She’d keep her soul.

Out of nowhere it seemed, The wind of her life swirled. A conversation. A voice. A change. A realization. There would be no more moves. Her eye changed. Her soul had found a home.
