Background Information

Taffy <20+ yo TB mare> arrived here Oct 6th, 2006 from the broker pages, when she refused to load onto a killpen truck. From the moment Taffy arrived we were thrown for a loop. She was cantankerous and awnry most days. On a good day she might let you enter "her" pasture but mostly she was happy just watching over her herd. Taffy and ChaintiRose exchanged many words in reference to who was the lead mare in the field each day. It was always a surprise to see who would win each day. Taffy showed her first signs of compassion when ChiantiRose was adopted and she nickered all night for her dear friend. It was then that we realized she was just exercising her rights as a matriarch.

Taffy quickly became very important in our lives and seemed to touch every aspect. When I was being cranky my husband would say, "Oh go out and try that with Taffy" She was the first to trot over to you when you entered the pasture, and got to be the best at finding hidden treats in my pockets.

Taffy succumbed to a massive heart attack during a major storm we had one night. Dar never once left her side and stood stoic and nickering to the wind as we removed and buried Taffy. In closing let me say that some horses just naturally bring out the best in us as humans, and Taffy was one of those horses.
